Song was WAAAAY ahead of its time; much like Living Colour: telling us the tales of the unheard and the unrecognized in such a hardcore and artistic matter 😘🤌
It was around the same time as Madonna was pushing the envelope and still getting banned on a lot of English language music stations. Living Color simply didn't have the same level of established fame to get the music studios to market their material dealing with similar subjects. I remember watching this video when the song came out on Canada's French language music station (francophones really aren't puritanical about sex). I don't think it ever got airplay on the English language sister station or MTV, at least when it came out.
I saw them open for the Stone back in '89 in LA. I was already a fan, but the Stones fans around me were not to interested. Too bad. Been a fan since Vivid, one of the first CDs I ever bought.
Wow... why is it that I knew nothing of this song's existence until now? How many hard rock bands at the time were brave enough to tackle the subject of sexuality so blatantly? And an all black band, no less? My respect for these guys goes up even further. It seems that a lot of their songs touch on issues that very few artists of their genre wouldn't even consider touching. Oh, and why am I not surprised that there's an argument going on below me? I knew this song would be a troll magnet.
It really is!!! That thing is flawless from front to back…Now tell me why I didn’t listen to it until a few years ago!?!? It’s criminal how underrated this album and band are.
As for the discussion about who is and isn't "bi" and what it has to do with this song....well first of all this song was written by Vernon Reid (guitarist) and Will Calhoun (drummer), not Corey Glover (singer) and Doug Wimbish (bass player). Vernon Reid has said that the inspiration for this song was a girlfriend he dated who was bisexual and that that "led to some interesting situations". I can't remember if it was before or after Stain was released that Living Colour opened for Guns and Roses and took Axl Rose to task for his homophobic comments from the stage. This song, like most of the lyrics on Stain, deals with confusion as it goes back and forth between embracing and shunning bisexuality, denying it's legitimacy and then implying that everyone is bisexual. This is a realistic portrayal of what goes on in many people's minds.
Cool story, the whole album Stain is one of most uderrated rock albums. It was era of real super music and it was real hard to being noticed that time. Whatewer the story is supercool, thanks for sharing!
I was working in a auto factory when this song came out. I loved Living Colour. I bought every album. This is the catchiest song on the album. I kept singing it on the line while my father was down the line accidentally listening to GNR. I left in his portable tape player. He dug them.
This song was way ahead of it's time. When I first heard this song.. I thought there would no way the music industry would promote this song . Today this song would be no 1 in the Billboard Charts.
I'm agree with it, in 1.993 Living Colour talked about this issue and is very very very valid in 2.013... I face it: I'm surprised, this is the first time the I heard the song in 2.023. The albums "Biscuit" (EP?) and "Stain" not was released in Venezuela, I say it because i never saw both albums in records store of Caracas.
Truly underrated band. In the late 80s early 90s they opened for the stones on the steel wheels tour. These guys are kick ass musicians. Great track! Glad to hear this subject is being brought out into the light Bi this group. Rock out....😜
It's incredible that the conversation about commodification of sexuality still hasn't hit the mainstream even in 2024 when this song spells it out pretty plainly. Hell of a song, I'll definitely have this on repeat for weeks
@esteban0321 Never knew this song was out. The fact that they were Black males doing this song was even wilder to comprehend during this time frame. Hell, how many songs by males out today will even touch that topic unless it is strictly girl on girl. Wow!
im 23 and been bi for less than a year and i love it, i've never felt so comfortable in my own skin and my confidence has grown alot, its FUCKING GREAT :D
I'm 15 and been bi for a year and a half, and it's been awesome, all the feelings that you have and being able to kiss both genders and feel the adrenaline and the butterflies, and when you think about your ideal someone, you don't think about a gender, you think about a person. I feel soooo free when I flirt with girls, but at the same time I like falling for boys. Even if I'm more interested in boys, I still consider myself bi. The harsh part is that I haven't come out to my family yet. And I haven't fall for a girl yet, I mean I have had some crushes, but they weren't THAT strong. So I'm thinking that when I finally fell for a girl, I would make her my girlfriend and I would come out to them . I have already done it with my close friends and they have said they sometimes feel like they are bi too so they have been very supportive with me. I hope my family will be as supportive too. Wish me luck! STAY BI!
The very very sad truth is most people don't know this song because this song killed their career. Homophobia was still kinda accepted then. Progress had been made but we sure as fuck weren't where we are now. Nowadays people look back on this and rightfully praise them for it and give them credit for being way ahead of their time, but we just weren't there yet. In fact, most don't look back on this fondly, rather they just discover it because it got no airplay at the time - I saw this video once, and even that was on a Much Music show that aired at midnight and would just that once play a banned video and have a panel discuss it (thankfully, I recorded it since I'm a fan). Aside from that, I never ever saw or heard the song on any video or radio station. It was like no one would touch it. Especially in hard rock, at the time anything dude on dude was considered point and laugh funny at best, or disgusting at worst. (Chick on chick though, wow, so progressive... NO I'm just trying to find my keys...) There unfortunately was still that stigma attached to anything gay. Not proud to admit it but way back then as a high school teenager, I didn't hate gays at all but I certainly couldn't risk anyone thinking I liked dudes, THE HORROR, so I wasn't doing anything to make people aware of this song. Sadly, I'm sure there was a lot of that. The few of us that heard this song and enjoyed this song and had it in our playlist (for me that was a VHS cassette full of rock videos) enjoyed it to ourselves. While it never played on radio or tv and there was no internet yet to speak of. And sadly, Living Colour virtually disappeared. Thankfully, I've grown since then. And thankfully, so have a lot of people. Kudos Living Colour, for doing this at a time where most wouldn't have, and indeed didn't. It may seem like nothing today but it was a bold move back then.
@@baz3575 Okay. Now show me how many hard rock acts were doing it. Cuz there weren't many. And yeah, Madonna was doing it lots - it was obviously very different for a chick to do girl-girl stuff in their videos, all that did was gain attention, have people saying "She's so progressive" while horny teenage boys took way too long searching their pockets for their keys. My point still stands. In hard rock, you didn't have Metallica, Guns And Roses, Motley Crue and the like singing about being bisexual. It wasn't happening.
I'm ashamed to admit I'm only now finding out about their catalog of outstanding music - like so many others, I forgot about them after "Cult Of Personality" wasn't on MTV any more... I'd like to think I've grown a bit since then. :\
I went to a high school dance with a girl who was a bit out of my league in terms of sexual experience. I put this song on a mixtape of songs to listen to while we were going place to place. At the end of the night this song came on and she started laughing and started rocking out. She then took advantage of me. It was a great night.
Some of these young 'uns really believe they invented the wheel. How many of us grew up multicultural, listening to dope bands like LC knowing all kinds of folks across so many cultures and subcultures and it was natural, not a trend to perform on social media. 😅 I still have my copy of "Stain" on cassette with the red case. Living Color and Fishbone were my sh*t back in the day along with Joi. ❤

That bass tone... I remember seeing this on Much Music back in "the day". Pretty sure the CD is still at my parents place... I have to find it next time I'm there.
Awesome band. Awesome album. Awesome song. I remember the album was banned in an Asian country specifically because of this song. The response from the band was that at it was personally significant to at least two of the band members. They didn't say which ones. Still, as someone who came out just before this album's release, I was so happy to find this on it. Thanks, guys! I agree with the people who say this band did not get the recognition it deserves. They ROCK!!!
@flufftastical I understand your point, but i think the message is not "bis sleep around for fun" but indeed "everybody love's you when you're bi". And everybody can. Not everybody but a lot of people. What you do with that love is up to you or any person who's bi, for that matter. Or anyone else.

There’s needs to be a Sara Lance and John Constantine scene off them both walking into a club together and just digging it with this playing in The Arrowverse
Korra, Asami Sato, Luz Noceda, Momo Yaoyorozu, Luna Loud, Sarah Lance, Kaldur'ahm, Enid, Princess Bubblegum, Ramona Flowers, Rosa Diaz, Harley Quinn, Glimmer, Byleth, Jack Harkness, Dio Brando, and Charlie Magne in a nutshell.
this song is so fucking goofy and just slightly... off in the way it approaches its subject matter, it is brazen and completely absurd in how it talks about sexuality, in short, damn near perfect, easily one of the best things the nineties produced.
The official anthem of Korra, Asami Sato, Luna Loud, Akko Kagari, Katsuki Bakugou, Kyouka Jirou, Rosa Diaz, Sarah Lance, Dennis Rodman, Billie Joe Armstrong, and Dio Brando
4min. Lemmy vocalista Motorhead? Legal. Tb recordo Filme O Sócio John Grisham, passado no Brasil, antes do Impeachment Collor. Legal...recordando tudo, na cabeça. Ainda vou salvar mais fotos e pendurar mais quadros, assim que der.

At the time of release other artists (e.g. David Bowie) gave LC kudos for being (for the time) so brash. MTV of course....banned the video.
none
and that's why you're just finding out about this songs existence. it derailed their career
And it’s from the point of view of a woman
How ironic, the writter of this song now identifies as gay....
What arguement? you trippin?
"Stain" is a very underrated album, def a badass album a lot more heavier than their other albums but still got that killer LC sound

This bassline is so filthy 🤘
Oberyn Martel's theme song...
Lol yess
... a closet for the whole world to live in:-)
There’s needs to be a Sara Lance and John Constantine scene off them both walking into a club together and just digging it with this playing in The Arrowverse
Korra, Asami Sato, Luz Noceda, Momo Yaoyorozu, Luna Loud, Sarah Lance, Kaldur'ahm, Enid, Princess Bubblegum, Ramona Flowers, Rosa Diaz, Harley Quinn, Glimmer, Byleth, Jack Harkness, Dio Brando, and Charlie Magne in a nutshell.
I love the fact that I recognize all those names.
Kocham tego clipa kocham tego clipa
Cool!!!!
Happy Bisexual visibility month 💗💜
This what the Village People really wanted to say. In the Navy :)
Cool. I like this.
this song is so fucking goofy and just slightly... off in the way it approaches its subject matter, it is brazen and completely absurd in how it talks about sexuality, in short, damn near perfect, easily one of the best things the nineties produced.
The official anthem of Korra, Asami Sato, Luna Loud, Akko Kagari, Katsuki Bakugou, Kyouka Jirou, Rosa Diaz, Sarah Lance, Dennis Rodman, Billie Joe Armstrong, and Dio Brando
everybody loves yopu when you're bi..this is a great song :D

04. Bi
---------------------------------------------------
[Music by Living Colour
Lyrics by Calhoun, Reid]
-----------------------------------------------
Ouw!
Ouw!
People
If they choose you
Then they want you to decide
But you'd rather relax
Kick back
Enjoy the ride
There's
A catagory
If you're straight or gay
You're a wild card gambler
If you like it both ways
Everybody wants you
When you're bi
Looking at the girls
And
Eyeing all the guys
Everybody loves you
When you're bi
But the tension
And the passion's
Double amplified
Ouw
My lover told me
Well
That she's bi
I
Wanted to scream
There were tears in my eyes
She said
Baby
Baby
Don't you cry
'Cause the one
I am with
You've been seeing
On the side
Whoa
Everybody wants you
When you're bi
Eating with the girls
And
Laughing with the guys
Everybody loves you
When you're bi
But the tension
And the passion's
Double amplified
[Just a little bit of greatness from the Universal 3rd of 6 String Vernon Reid]
Everybody
Wants you
When you're bi
Feeling all the girls (Mmm)
And
Touching all the guys
Well
Everybody loves you
When you're bi
Well a friend
Of a friend
Of a friend
Told me
Everybody's messed up
With their sexuality
Well a friend of
A friend of
A friend told
Me
I need a closet
Big enough to
Live in
A closet for
The whole world
To live in
I want a closet
Big enough to
Live in
A closet for the whole
World to live in
Everybody wants you
When you're bi
Loving all the girls
And
Loving all the guys
Everybody needs you
When you're bi
But the tension
And the passion's
Double amplified
Everybody wants you
(That's right)
Everybody needs you
(Um-hum)
Everybody likes you
(I'll bet)
Everybody loves you
Ho
Everybody
Yeah
Everybody
Everybody
Come on now
Everybody
(Not me)
Everybody
Whoo
Everybody
Yeah
Everybody
Come on now
Everybody
Well
Everybody loves
You
Bi-iiiiii
Licking all the girls
Bi-iiii
Licking all the guys
Everybody's
Phucked up
With their sexuality
You like it
Both ways
Like it
Both ways
Bi-iiiiii
