How can you tell if a song is timeless? If you can enjoy it as much as you did when you first heard it. I got "Time's up" when it first came out and that's already 22 years ago, man time goes fast.
Me and a buddy went to Cleveland to see them in what was basically a theatre with a balcony. Fucking KILLED IT!! Couldn't hear for 2 days, standing on the armrests of seats 3 rows from stage. And yes, Corey the singer is Danny Glover the actor's son. Hella voice, MONSTER!!
This is among the most beautiful songs ever written or performed. The lyrics, tempo, melody, everything is exquisite. Living Colour has created important music for our society, but this is pure joy and love.
This....I could not put it any better. There's something greater than the sum of the parts of this song, it has the ability to just physically and mentally lift me every single time I hear it. And that bass line just feels like a cosmic heart beat driving everything that's good in the world. Sublime.
When it hurts to be out there Where no one will care I've got the solace of you Frustrated by people's lying But I keep on trying I've got the solace of you When I can't think straight And there's no escape I've got the solace of you Gotta go inside back where it started Back to the beginning 'Cause that's where my heart is They can hurt me, jail my body I'll still be free I've got the solace of you They can take my land Tell me I'm not who I am I've got the solace of you A wise man said to know thyself 'Cause in the end there's no one else Just the solace of you Gotta go inside back where it started Back to the beginning 'Cause that's where my heart is Gotta go inside Back to the beginning
Starts off with a beautiful hook, then descends into an even cooler chorus. Everything works in this song. Definitely one of my favorite songs of all time.
My wife and I danced our first song at our wedding to this in 1995. Still chokes me up...especially now that one of my fiends in our wedding party has passed.
I only started listening to these gys a lot during the pandemic...they've really made me discover another world of music. I absolutely love this song, the african influence really adds a lot to it.
Another sadly under appreciated great Afro U.S black band ..... ah long live this great music.... Corey, Vernan and the boys.... marvellous.... a real celebration of living colour !! We love it....
Ophiuchus123456789 Sorry mate, I have a few oldies from the 70's that are now long forgotten... that's what I meant... but nothing so clean sounding as these guys... although 24/7 Spyz comes to mind as does Fishbone...
***** Damn, I've heard the name Fishbone often but never checked them out. I think I know what you mean about the 70s bands, Ones like Nile Rodgers were in.
Just saw them in Hollywood - they were rockin. Corey GOT PIPES. Amazing how good he sounds so many years later Sadly, they didn't play this song (nor nothingness or letter to a landlord, but show was still great).
+Evan Urena Another song that has an african touch in it is, '' It works itself out by Half Moon Run'' listen to the drum pattern keenly you wil notice it. It has a chakacha rhythm that comes from coastal kenya..
+ashwini faizal Loved the song just as much as this one. I also noticed Half Moon's Run's riffs has a darker and almost melancholy melody to the african rhythm/drum pattern while with Living Colour, it's much brighter and happier. Are you into asian instrumentals? There is a song by Incubus called Aqueous Transmission that has instrumental influences of East Asia. Do not exactly know what province or country in east Asia(probably from China, Japan, or Korea), but the instrument used is a Pipa.
Evan Urena Central African guitar almost never uses minor chords. That could account for the melancholey feel in Half Moon Run, which uses all sorts of chords.
Another reason why "Time's Up" was such a fantastic album. These guys deserve more recognition than they sadly get today - in other words, they are more than "Cult of Personality." BTW, that IS Doug E. Fresh with the "mouth percussion" punctuating the track.
Oi.
Not even 200,000 views? What's wrong with the world? I think this song don't get more recognition because people DON'T KNOW about it, not because they don't like it. Really sad!!
Always loved the lyrics to this song. Well written and wise words and always an underrated act.Everyone should have at least one of their CD's in their collection.
goose bumps and tears of joy all over me - tell you what stop thinking about colors but start embrace, accept and love´em peepz - luv you guys you made my period of a teenager way easier and now as an adult you still do - peace out and sauerkraut guys, stay safe word
I've been rocking LC since 88 and this is the 1st time I've seen this vid, tears to my eyes. Gifted talent all around and so under appreciated, it's a crime.
This song is stupidly, ridiculously good. The vibe is absolutely beautiful, uplifting, spiritual and life-affirming. A stone-cold classic.
🤟
Love it, exactly what you said man. They are touring in my little town this year :-)
Agreed. It doesn’t make sense for a song to be this great!
For sure! Loved it when I first heard it on the album as a 16 year old....32 years later it still rings in my heart and soul ❤
and even though theyre not a christian band, the solace hes referring to is jesus
this band are so underrated, it's criminal
They're not underrated. Music tastes change. They can speak for themselves but as a fan. Living Colour was popular.
What a great fucking song and band,2021 still sands as good and probably better.
That's true. Cheers from Brazil.
For sure! They Rock! 👍🤘
Totally agree. Amazing band.. Awesome live.
Ladies and Gentlemen, this is an American Masterpiece.
This is factual.
With strong African musical roots (especially in the guitar style)
I loved this band 30 years ago and still do
Brilliant track, possibly the most underrated song ever. 23 people need to go find a mirror and take a long hard look at themselves.
Definitely agree.
I found a mirror.....like what I see. Just went up from 34 to 35.
denial is not just a river in egypt.
I saw them in Liverpool recently. They didn't play this unfortunately, but they are still great, brilliant show.
possibly the most underrated song ever? Quite a statement. Let me check the other 4 billion first and I'll be back to comment on this one.lol ;)
I absolutely love this song. I found it today on an independent radio station. The instrumentation, the lyrics, everything is perfect.
How can you tell if a song is timeless?
If you can enjoy it as much as you did when you first heard it.
I got "Time's up" when it first came out and that's already 22 years ago, man time goes fast.
Word is born...
That is an awesome description :)
genius is above the age- Blake
Me and a buddy went to Cleveland to see them in what was basically a theatre with a balcony. Fucking KILLED IT!! Couldn't hear for 2 days, standing on the armrests of seats 3 rows from stage. And yes, Corey the singer is Danny Glover the actor's son. Hella voice, MONSTER!!
Always, since I was 16, I'm 45 now 😁
This is among the most beautiful songs ever written or performed. The lyrics, tempo, melody, everything is exquisite. Living Colour has created important music for our society, but this is pure joy and love.

Three years later, I wonder how we are not friends!
I discovered this song yesterday.... Still floored!! The USA should be proud of bands like these.
32 years and still strong 1991 as a teen i still miss it
We are
I’m more proud of people like you who seek and appreciate it!
Exactly 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Amen brother we are!
Amazing song. These guys helped me through the hair-metal era. Living Colour rocked harder, grooved smoother, and had something to say. Respect.
And they have SOUL!
what was wrong with the hair-metal era?
This one is medicine for my soul. Lifts me up...way up.
One of the best song of the world.
I love how the bass sounds...
This is one of the greatest songs I have ever heard. I've had this song in my life since I was a baby and I'm damn sure I'm a better man for it.
Now this I agree with
Words to the wise
A wise man said to know thyself 'Cause in the end there's no one else. Just the solace of you
One of the greatest bands with virtually no lasting recognition for their contribution to great music.
Aside from the mtv music video awards and Grammys that they won that is...
When it hurts to be out there
Where no one will care
I've got the solace of you
Frustrated by people's lying
But I keep on trying
I've got the solace of you
When I can't think straight
And there's no escape
I've got the solace of you
Gotta go inside back where it started
Back to the beginning
'Cause that's where my heart is
They can hurt me, jail my body
I'll still be free
I've got the solace of you
They can take my land
Tell me I'm not who I am
I've got the solace of you
A wise man said to know thyself
'Cause in the end there's no one else
Just the solace of you
Gotta go inside back where it started
Back to the beginning
'Cause that's where my heart is
Gotta go inside
Back to the beginning
Can you tell me what the back up singers say? That’s a mystery right there
Great phantastic Song 🎵 ❤
This album goes down in the halls of music history with any of the Zep albums,,,, that's all that really needs to be said.
I used to sing this to my son when he was a baby. Nearly 30 years on and it moves me just the same.
🙏🙏🙏
After so many years I still dance on this.
Starts off with a beautiful hook, then descends into an even cooler chorus. Everything works in this song. Definitely one of my favorite songs of all time.
.....that chord change into the refrain, KILLS me - EVERY time.....
I loved the versatility of this band!
The word legendary is not enough to describe this band.
I still remember the first time i listened to this on MTV
Favorite Living Colour track - hands down.
I've always loved Corey's voice.
Brilliant.Here in 2024.
Magnificent guitar work.
This guitar riff used to mesmerise me back in the day. Instant nostalgic wonder to this day.

One of my longest running favorites. I love this song today as much as I loved it the first time I heard it back in high school. ('91)
I have always loved this song. Music truly peaked in the 90's.
My wife and I danced our first song at our wedding to this in 1995. Still chokes me up...especially now that one of my fiends in our wedding party has passed.
Hubby & I did, too! November 1990
I forgot about this song until the other day. Timeless. Beautiful. Classic.
With all this shit goin on around the world, it’s a blessing to hear this song and remember how beautiful life can be. Thanx guys!
I only started listening to these gys a lot during the pandemic...they've really made me discover another world of music. I absolutely love this song, the african influence really adds a lot to it.
Very uplifting. A nice mix of soul, pop, rock and highlife influence.
Love this track. So underated its unreal ;-/
They nailed it with this one.
this guy has one of the best voices of all time!!
A lot of male voices break down over time but I heard a live recording they did in the last couple of years and his voice is still amazing.
Completely agree.
Saw them last week and he was still flooring the crowd with his beautiful vocals
@@leemele1233 that’s great to hear!
One of my all time favorite songs. Vernon is a genius and Cory's vocals are awesome. Loved this band - still do!

When you say 'another' could you direct me to some? I love this band and would appreciate discovering something similar.
Ophiuchus123456789 Sorry mate, I have a few oldies from the 70's that are now long forgotten... that's what I meant... but nothing so clean sounding as these guys... although 24/7 Spyz comes to mind as does Fishbone...

Just saw them in Hollywood - they were rockin.
Corey GOT PIPES.
Amazing how good he sounds so many years later
Sadly, they didn't play this song (nor nothingness or letter to a landlord, but show was still great).
One of the best band ever!
Absolutely gorgeous!
Saw them at the Aragon Ballroom back in the day. Coolest band ever. I used to play the Times Up CD all day!!
guitar is played in lingala style from Zaire
+ashwini faizal I've loved this song for years. I've loved soukous for years too, but you just helped me connect a few dots there. Thank ya.
+ashwini faizal i knew there was some sort of huge African influence in the guitar riffs and background music. I'ts awesome.
+Evan Urena Another song that has an african touch in it is, '' It works itself out by Half Moon Run'' listen to the drum pattern keenly you wil notice it. It has a chakacha rhythm that comes from coastal kenya..

Beautiful song, beautiful band.
One of my favorite songs growing up in 80s/90s. Living Colour was such an underrated and versatile group.
Musicianship from top to bottom and this song showcases it from start to finish.

Oi.
If I ever get married I will sing this song at the wedding:)
This was my bridal waltz.
Not even 200,000 views? What's wrong with the world? I think this song don't get more recognition because people DON'T KNOW about it, not because they don't like it. Really sad!!
