Hmm, I don’t know about that. They had a pretty good run on MTV for about 3 years. They had a good push in the grand scheme of things. Hell, I’m black I can say that. Meaning, I don’t think they were treated unfairly. I get what your saying and life isn’t fair in most cases. However, at least they got their chance and they did good. They’re still out there.
Years ago, I won a karaoke singing contest doing this song. The guy running the contest said it was the 1st time anyone won doing a song he (and almost all of the rest of the audience) had never heard before. It's sad that this is such a great song, and so few people have heard it.
Although they scored several hits, Living Colour is best known for their signature song "Cult of Personality", which won a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance in 1990 and has been consistently used as the entrance theme for professional wrestler CM Punk since 2011.[6] They were also named Best New Artist at the 1989 MTV Video Music Awards and won their second Grammy Award for their follow-up album Time's Up (1990).
Suzanne Roberts don't forget about Muzz Skillings and Wil Calhoun. I was an instant fan the first time I heard them when they put out Vivid almost 30 years ago. every album that followed was progressively better than the last.
Saw them a couple years ago, Corey Glover still has one of the best voices in rock. All 4 men on stage were virtuosos, not saying that gratuitously. Saw them on the Vivid tour in ‘89? and they rocked every bit as hard as they did back then. If they ever come around you, do not miss it.
Their bus driver got lost trying to find the Phantasy Theatre in Cleveland. Which we could barely find in pre gps and smart phone days. Kicked ass an hour later for a 3 hour show that you had us up on the seats standing the whole time. Couldn't hear shit for 3 days, probably lost 20 percent. ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT!!!
Could this song be any better? No. Wow, what a great tune from an under-rated band. Singer has a great voice. Just love everything about this cleverly written song.
tell me about it! this song is on point! excellent bass line, exquisite jazz chords with funk rythym, simple yet effective drum beat with a great sense of using the bass pedal. and don't get me started on the singer. thar voice is a gift! love the video. very unique lighting! the lyrics are deep. Under rated indeed! what a disappointment!
Heard this on the radio today for the first time ever. I can't believe it was released such a long time ago and it's been under the radar. So fresh and original - it needs to be released!
Vernon and Muzz are possibly the most underrated guitarists of all time. Corey's vocals are insane and Will's timing is impeccable...MOST UNDERRATED BAND OF ALL TIME!!!
What an awesome sound how did that song fly Under The Radar?????? I'm an old white boy with absolutely zero dance moves and that song make ME move.....LOL 😊😊😊😊
I saw these guys a couple of years ago in a small gig. It was one of the best concerts I've been in my life. They're even better live than in the studio
Saw them in Central Park, NYC practically near the bushes near a lane. Drew a small crowd, sold their own cassettes. I was in awe ! They are so underrated. Way ahead of their time back in 1987 I think.
I don't know if they are underrated, I know alot of people who love em. So many great bands on the down low but do agree that they deserve to be noticed more to alot who wouldn't even know em
+Kent Darden Yeah, blame the labels had they not jerk all those old Black dudes who created RocknRoll from the Blues there would be plenty Black Rock bands
splitting atoms being a black man who plays guitar and mostly plays rock and metal. I love seeing comments like this. Wish more of My fellow African Americans were accepting of all music like me. I tend to get looks when I'm not listening to rap
Broadway Well I really respect you for sticking by the music you love and not changing it just because of some stupid stereotypes. I think its really cool that you're into rock because it is an awesome genre of music so good on you
Appreciate all the comments here but perplexed why we must assign color to music? Music should be the one thing that transcends all this labeling crap. Living Colour was insanely good regardless of their melanin content. Rock on!
Times Up fucking cemented a serious piece of history in my life, travelling from Eire to the south of France in the summer of '91, on a bus. My God, wat a bunch of musicians. Love everything they've done, from Muzz to Doug. I owe yez a lot lads❤️🤘
The band was able to make something itself for a name with this tune in the 90s. As I was a teenager in those years , I grew up with the tune and I can still remember that the radio stations used to play it frequently.
I always thought our relationship was cool You played the role of having sense I always played the fool Now something's different I don't know the reason why Whenever we separate I almost want to cry Oh no, please not that again Love rears up its ugly head And when I come home late you don't complain or call So as a consequence I don't go out at all My friends are frightened They don't know what's going on They think you put a spell on me And now my mind is gone Oh no, please not that again Love rears up its ugly head Love's not so bad they say But you never know where love is gonna go Does anybody really know? I'm standing at the altar As they play the wedding march I'm in a black tuxedo with my collar full of starch She looks as lovely as she's ever gonna get I wake up from this nightmare in a pool of sweat Oh no, please not that again Love rears up its ugly head What you gonna do What you gonna do when it comes and gets you?
I was there when they made this video. The Kings Theatre in Flatbush, before it was renovated. My mom and I sold Avon under the marquee. Vernon took pictures of us and the people around the neighborhood. Corey was walking with his girl, but he still said hi to us. They were always cool with talking to people at festivals and concerts around town 😊
Haven't heard this for over 30 years - takes me back to the spring of 1991 - memories of it being played on Atlantic 252 long wave at the time. Driving from Maidstone to Margate for a day out after passing my driving test
Grew up on this song and to this day I don't think I've heard a better singer than Corey. Simply amazing voice and simply brilliant musicians in their own right.
The version of this song played on the radio in the UK at the time it was big (i just read that it got to like num 12 or something in the charts here) was a lot more rocky. I bought the album, as a teenager, on the strength of it alone and remembering being bitterly disappointed that this version was on the album instead. But i stuck with it and it became a favourite play for a long time. Recently revisited it and not only does this song stand out but that whole album is still great (maybe not 'Elvis is dead' though lol). Still can't find that original version though (which is what brought me here), would love to hear it again to see if it was as good as i remembered it to be.
Sadly one of the most underrated bands in history. Not sure how this happened. Music industry is a cruel beast
They were pretty big for about 2 years when I was about 19 years old and then nothing! That's modern music
Damn right, listened to them in the 90s, still listening to them now, so bloody good!
They suck
Underated? They have four Grammy awards.
Probably the most underrated band of all-time!
+Don Scott Spot on mate, got it in one :)
+Don Scott I don't underate them I saw them in manchester and I think they're the best
so true
yep
+Don Scott I would say terribly underrated.
Years ago, I won a karaoke singing contest doing this song. The guy running the contest said it was the 1st time anyone won doing a song he (and almost all of the rest of the audience) had never heard before.
It's sad that this is such a great song, and so few people have heard it.
Were they all living under a rock? This song was huge in Australia ❤
Must've done a fine rendition then, winning a contest on a song the folks in the bar don't even know !
Damn. What a feat. Gotta have pipes to sing Corey's material. Congratulations.
This track should have won a Grammy....friggin' great!
Totally agree!!!
💯 % FACTS!!!
actually it did
in parallel universe
No need to win stupid Grammy to be famous. Grammy won't like their lyrical themes because Grammy is woke and butthurt.
Bring back blues, funk, rock again please. I really miss this. Variety is the spice of life they say.
in this song the guitar is the spice.
@@Duffy8368 and the writing, and the singing, and the style, the melody
When I got married I had this blasting as we left the church. Listening to it now after divorce hits home. I knew.
Wow. That's powerful
How are you holding up man?
Goddamn
My Mom said the same thing after her divorce from my Dad decades ago when she recalled their song was "Yesterday" by The Beatles🙄😝
Ahhh man... chin up my man
Corey Glover's vocals...amazing. Vernon Reid shreds with the best of them.
Suzanne Roberts don't forget about Muzz Skillings and Wil Calhoun. I was an instant fan the first time I heard them when they put out Vivid almost 30 years ago. every album that followed was progressively better than the last.
Suzanne Roberts oh totally.
Oh, f*&^, that was thirty years ago already...I feel a depression coming on.lol
Saw them a couple years ago, Corey Glover still has one of the best voices in rock. All 4 men on stage were virtuosos, not saying that gratuitously. Saw them on the Vivid tour in ‘89? and they rocked every bit as hard as they did back then. If they ever come around you, do not miss it.
These guys are so utterly sophisticated. Anything around today pales by comparison.
They deserve every bit of respect they get. Pure talent.
They are respected and very influential. What makes you think otherwise?
Verdade pura banda boa demais
Unfortunately, the music industry was not subject to the internet when these geniuses were breaking ground. Wonderfully crafted.
A genious piece of music. Listen how the bassnotes over and underride the guitar. Perfect, tight and precise.
and the drumming and timing is amazing.
Calm down genious, its a blues riff.
Yeah well why wouldn't the timing be amazing. Would be pretty stupid playing drums without a metronome in a studio. .
Just "a blues riff" or not, you either have a mad groove, or you do not. This is a sick mad groove.
@@TrollBot-dv1rk
You obviously know nothing mate.
I agree. Like they're playing their own thing but staying together.
Can I just get a MASSIVE shout out for Will Calhoun on drums?! The groove, the sound, the attack...the BALLS...Will Calhoun!
Yes, Calhoun is a fantastic drummer.
Just as brilliant now
Could this song be any better? No. Wow, what a great tune from an under-rated band. Singer has a great voice. Just love everything about this cleverly written song.
oh man.. theyre always on the bucketlist... great live band!
tell me about it! this song is on point! excellent bass line, exquisite jazz chords with funk rythym, simple yet effective drum beat with a great sense of using the bass pedal. and don't get me started on the singer. thar voice is a gift! love the video. very unique lighting! the lyrics are deep. Under rated indeed! what a disappointment!
There is a 12inch version that was released in the UK that is better than this version
How many millions do you have to sell before you are no longer under rated?
This track take back time and just good as first time heard it rock on people ,😎
How versatile Living Colour is, you just can't be that good at everything, not fair.
Funk and blues done properly
Also a bit of rock in the mix.
DereMemo very rare music

I wish i could find similar music...

Brilliant Drumming.... As a drummer, this is it. listening to real music. What a feel. Perfect
While I am replying to your true comment, I am sitting in my drumming stool behind my drum kit.
Fuck yes.
"Real music" you mean music????
Grade 6 trinity rock and pop. Learning it atm
100%
A perfect song crafted by four legends...what a performance.
One of the best rock bands ever. They do not get the credit they deserve.
Why is this the best song ever?
I'm 41 and listened to this song for over 20 years..."Personally" I now know what it means.
why is this band not popular..This is the greatest injustice in music history
Love this song!!!! Great mix of rock funk and r&b!!!
Linda De Jongh exactly my thought
+Linda De Jongh Exactly!
Joining the club.

This and their other great song 'Cult of Personality'. :)
Heard this on the radio today for the first time ever. I can't believe it was released such a long time ago and it's been under the radar.
So fresh and original - it needs to be released!
And they still sound THIS good. If you ever get the chance...
Now listen to Cult of Personality......loud!!!
Here we Go‼️✌️ from Amsterdam 😎🇳🇱
The drums...the drums!!
The neighbors listen to this every day cause I blast it to the whole neighborhood. Great band, straight talent.
Yo educó a mi hija en la musica y la hago escuchar a esta u muchas bestias del rock
Such a top rock band! Every piece of Living Color is gold.
God his drumming was good. Definition of the Funky drummer. I loved this band.🥁👍🥁

Vernon and Muzz are possibly the most underrated guitarists of all time. Corey's vocals are insane and Will's timing is impeccable...MOST UNDERRATED BAND OF ALL TIME!!!
Best love song ever 😁
Time's Up is a real masterpiece. Inside there are almost every genre: metal, punk, hard rock, r&b, blues...it's fantastic!
And Little Richard rapping!
What an awesome sound how did that song fly Under The Radar?????? I'm an old white boy with absolutely zero dance moves and that song make ME move.....LOL 😊😊😊😊

They are influential musicians.
Learning this song for a grade 6 drum exam and instantly discovered one of my new favourite bands.
Jazz fusion musicians! One of the baddest songs ever.
Such an underrated band. Love them
The Adam, not underrated in my book. Most kickass NYC band ever.
Such over-used opinion
I don't know if they are underrated, I know alot of people who love em. So many great bands on the down low but do agree that they deserve to be noticed more to alot who wouldn't even know em
Hearing this song for the first time
Totally blown away, living colour were an incredible band really didn’t get the credit they deserve
Welcome to our world. We are your people

Saying "black rock" is like saying "rock rock." lol
I forgot about this song. What a talented group of guys. And those vocal chords? Directly from heaven.
Never get bored with this song - they deserved to be more well known.
Dieser Song ist mein Favorit von LC. Thanks for inspiration.
so, so great, every once in awhile I HAVE to listen to this and "The Cult of Personality."
omfug their only two good songs
and "Nothingness"
When you talk of underrated bands, 2 names come up consistently. Living Colour, and Faith No More.
They should do something together :D
What a voice!!!
Is this not the slickest, funkiest and sexiest song... that voice man!!! 🥰
Vernon is a great guitarist. Such feeling whether jazz or rock. Corey complimented him perfectly.
Times Up fucking cemented a serious piece of history in my life, travelling from Eire to the south of France in the summer of '91, on a bus. My God, wat a bunch of musicians. Love everything they've done, from Muzz to Doug. I owe yez a lot lads❤️🤘
I fell in love with Living Colour the first time I heard them. Fresh new sound in their day. Still love to come back to them and watch their videos.
Yet another awesome track from the 90s (early period), thank you Living Colour!
Such a great tune. So bluesy, jazzy and funky.
He’s so handsome!!!
Living Colour é tudo de bom!!
Used to blast this absolute underrated gem while driving around on my college campus all the time.
You’re welcome West Virginia.
When I first heard this song I was blown away and thought this band will be big and will be the vanguard of Blues rock. Never happened sadly
Rainer Seeger
I guess America needed WHITE stripes to lead that movement.😰
The band was able to make something itself for a name with this tune in the 90s. As I was a teenager in those years , I grew up with the tune and I can still remember that the radio stations used to play it frequently.
Living Colour should have been so huge. Incredible musicians and great songs
I just love this song ,it doesnt get old ❤️❤️❤️Underrated for sure sad enough 😝
You ever find a band where all their songs are amazing? This is one of them
jazz metal, I love it
Perfect song, the lead vocals, the guitar and Will Calhoun rules ! ! !
Corey Glover's voice is otherworldly.
I always thought our relationship was cool
You played the role of having sense
I always played the fool
Now something's different
I don't know the reason why
Whenever we separate
I almost want to cry
Oh no, please not that again
Love rears up its ugly head
And when I come home late you don't complain or call
So as a consequence I don't go out at all
My friends are frightened
They don't know what's going on
They think you put a spell on me
And now my mind is gone
Oh no, please not that again
Love rears up its ugly head
Love's not so bad they say
But you never know where love is gonna go
Does anybody really know?
I'm standing at the altar
As they play the wedding march
I'm in a black tuxedo with my collar full of starch
She looks as lovely as she's ever gonna get
I wake up from this nightmare in a pool of sweat
Oh no, please not that again
Love rears up its ugly head
What you gonna do
What you gonna do when it comes and gets you?
My favorite song by Living Color. I have some great, and no so great (lol), memories of this jam.
What about cm punks song

Always loved this song!!! So well written and arranged. Bluesy, funky, along with great lyrics and his voice is great!
I've listened to 4 songs by this band..not one was the same genre....these are possibly the most versatile people to ever grace our ears
It's like somone is reading a book .... it's tellin a story so natural .... and that snare.
Had the good fortune to see them live in 1991. Amazing show and I'm still very much a fan!
Damn that's good!
Takes me back to the days of Sony Walkman. Had this on a mix tape I made 😃
Cant even listen to this song without it reminding me of Harry........ God she was beautiful....... RIP Harry x
Come back to think of Harry...... hope you are good up there Harry
One of my favourite vocals from Corey, he nails it!
Still listening to LC in 2024! Such an underrated and fantastic band.
This is truly real music people!!!😊
Haven't heard this for over 30 years - takes me back to the spring of 1991 - memories of it being played on Atlantic 252 long wave at the time. Driving from Maidstone to Margate for a day out after passing my driving test
One of the best love ballads of all time, this video sends shivers down my spine.
I should be paying Will C royalties for how many times I’ve ripped off this drum feel 2:45 😂 that snare to bass drum feel is hot.
Grew up on this song and to this day I don't think I've heard a better singer than Corey. Simply amazing voice and simply brilliant musicians in their own right.
