Hmm, I don’t know about that. They had a pretty good run on MTV for about 3 years. They had a good push in the grand scheme of things. Hell, I’m black I can say that. Meaning, I don’t think they were treated unfairly. I get what your saying and life isn’t fair in most cases. However, at least they got their chance and they did good. They’re still out there.

Years ago, I won a karaoke singing contest doing this song. The guy running the contest said it was the 1st time anyone won doing a song he (and almost all of the rest of the audience) had never heard before.
It's sad that this is such a great song, and so few people have heard it.

Although they scored several hits, Living Colour is best known for their signature song "Cult of Personality", which won a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance in 1990 and has been consistently used as the entrance theme for professional wrestler CM Punk since 2011.[6] They were also named Best New Artist at the 1989 MTV Video Music Awards and won their second Grammy Award for their follow-up album Time's Up (1990).

I always thought our relationship was cool
You played the role of having sense
    I always played the fool
    Now something's different
I don't know the reason why
    Whenever we separate
    I almost want to cry
Oh no, please not that again
Love rears up its ugly head
And when I come home late you don't complain or call
So as a consequence I don't go out at all
    My friends are frightened
They don't know what's going on
They think you put a spell on me
And now my mind is gone
Oh no, please not that again
Love rears up its ugly head
Love's not so bad they say
But you never know where love is gonna go
    Does anybody really know?
    I'm standing at the altar
As they play the wedding march
I'm in a black tuxedo with my collar full of starch
She looks as lovely as she's ever gonna get
I wake up from this nightmare in a pool of sweat
Oh no, please not that again
Love rears up its ugly head
    What you gonna do
What you gonna do when it comes and gets you?

@@stephenfrancismoran6729Not funny I didn't laugh. Your joke is so bad I would have preferred the joke went over my head and you gave up re-telling me the joke. To be honest this is a horrid attempt at trying to get a laugh out of me. Not a chuckle, not a hehe, not even a subtle burst of air out of my esophagus. Science says before you laugh your brain preps your face muscles but I didn't even feel the slightest twitch. 0/10 this joke is so bad I cannot believe anyone legally allowed you to be creative at all. The amount of brain power you must have put into that joke has the potential to power every house on Earth. Get a personality and learn how to make jokes, read a book. I'm not saying this to be funny I genuinely mean it on how this is just bottom barrel embarrassment at comedy. You've single handedly killed humor and every comedic act on the planet. I'm so disappointed that society has failed as a whole in being able to teach you how to be funny. Honestly if I put in all my power and time to try and make your joke funny it would require Einstein himself to build a device to strap me into so I can be connected to the energy of a billion stars to do it, and even then all that joke would get from people is a subtle scuff. You're lucky I still have the slightest of empathy for you after telling that joke otherwise I would have committed every war crime in the book just to prevent you from attempting any humor ever again. We should put that joke in a text book so future generations can be wary of becoming such an absolute comedic failure. Im disappointed, hurt, and outright offended that my precious time has been wasted in my brain understanding that joke. In the time that took I was planning on helping kids who have been orphaned, but because of that you've waisted my time explaining the obscene integrity of your terrible attempt at comedy. Now those kids are suffering without meals and there's nobody to blame but you. I hope you're happy with what you have done and I truly hope you can move on and learn from this piss poor attempt.

Broadway Well I really respect you for sticking by the music you love and not changing it just because of some stupid stereotypes. I think its really cool that you're into rock because it is an awesome genre of music so good on you

Appreciate all the comments here but perplexed why we must assign color to music? Music should be the one thing that transcends all this labeling crap. Living Colour was insanely good regardless of their melanin content. Rock on!

Totally underrated band. Who cares about colour? Living or dead. One of the most innovative bands of its time. Masters of breaks and riffs and grooves and those amazing vocals! Not to mention the lyrics which are just sheer poetry. Their only downfall was cheesy shit production techniques....classic songs lost in a digital age with idiot sound engineers.

    • @PatrickStaal
      @PatrickStaal 10 лет назад +2

I never thought about it like this. You could be right about the sound engineers, but the goofy samples and effects were also what set them apart for me. Like the horrible scratching in 'Talkin' loud and sayin' nothing'. Almost laughable. But still quite original for that time frame.

    • @indifferentmonkey
      @indifferentmonkey 9 лет назад +3

fair point....perhaps a bit harsh of me about the 'sound engineers' who will have been doing what was the trend at the time. Compare their sound to say Jimmy Hendrix almost low fi production and Hendrix productions still sound organic and awesome. I'd love to remix living colour with a less transistor/digital sound.

My favorite album of that year, this and Extreme. Nuno was going for more of the Van halen sound, but Vernon was distorted Jazz, which I always preferred. I really wanted more of the same from Living Colour. Vivid and Times Up were my favorite. Then they came out with an album called "biscuit" or something, and it was not up to snuff.

The version of this song played on the radio in the UK at the time it was big (i just read that it got to like num 12 or something in the charts here) was a lot more rocky. I bought the album, as a teenager, on the strength of it alone and remembering being bitterly disappointed that this version was on the album instead. But i stuck with it and it became a favourite play for a long time. Recently revisited it and not only does this song stand out but that whole album is still great (maybe not 'Elvis is dead' though lol). Still can't find that original version though (which is what brought me here), would love to hear it again to see if it was as good as i remembered it to be.
