Oct. 24 This is a great song and i was supprised to learn that ETC wrote it. Oh the days of actual live music before all the manipulation we have in todays music.
Young man junior in high school. Headed to a FFA convention in Gatlinburg Tennessee with my agriculture teacher Mr. Steve Rinehart Listening to this song good times I'll never forget
I opened for him here in El Paso once. What a great singer, writer and showman! I feel in love with his music while stationed over in Germany where my own band played then. 1980-1983 RIP ETC!
This song takes me back home in my mind. I relive my best years. Just makes you nostalgic with the first words. What a legend. I put George Jones at the top but ETC is def a top 10.
I'm from East Tn. I 1st heard this song when I came home on leave from Germany. Fell in love and got it so I could take it back to Europe with me. It meant so much to me to dream of those Smoky Mtn memories. What a meaningful song.
Love the hell out of this song for years, first I ever heard Earl sing it,never knew he wrote it .Such a befitting song for such a great singer ,so far this is the best rendition of it I have heard he really does this song some serious justice ,I loved it. RIP
I remember him playing in my town in Canada in the 80’s. I can’t recall who he opened for so that’s an indication his show was more memorable. I was very impressed by Earl Thomas. He almost looked frightened, almost is the key word since he really wasn’t he just has that appearance, shy, timid and he did a solo acoustic set that was very much flawless. He did all of his songs and the ones on the album with heavy instrumentation sounded great with him doing them solo. Many songwriters don’t or can’t perform well in front of an audience. Earl was broadening his horizons and I think he slowly started to embrace the limelight. Eddy Raven was songwriter that never had to work again after so many of his songs were hits by others. He loved. performing and he had an on stage persona very much unlike Earls. All a guy needs is one song he wrote to be a hit by one of the headliners and you’re good for life.
Damn I did know he wrote this great song. Have always love Mel's version as well as this. My family came thru East Tenn. In 1837 and settled in Big Sandy. Pure Appalachian folks.
I have saw thid msn in conserrt 4 times... more than anyone. He is my favorite. Have you heard crould around the corrner? It makes me think of paw paw & tear up
What are you talking about? If you have proof let’s hear it? I did a search for Bill Allison songwriter and got nothing. I’m serious, and curious what you’re getting at. If someone owns song copyrights and they were stolen, that’s very serious. If you can prove it it’s also very important to expose that fraud. I’ve heard stories of unnamed mainstream artists walking 16th Avenue in Nashville and stealing songs, ideas for songs and melodies from the buskers. That’s a pretty shitty thing to do as a person let alone an established figure that doesn’t really need the income boost of another smash hit.
ETC should be in the CMHOF, Country Music Hall of Fame!!
Earl Thomas Conley was a great singer.❤😂🎉😅
