  • @cheekyboomboom8973

The scene with Malvo and Lou in the diner always makes me really appreciate how well the show did in making Malvo just like, the epitome of danger. Just the most menacing character possible. He was in the diner being civil and polite and only there to ask for directions, but it made me so worried for Lou and Molly. Moreso than any other scene with him, that one in particular always just makes me realize how whenever I see a character even near Malvo, I worry they might be killed, lol, as if he's the Grim Reaper or just Death personified. It just hits me harder than any other villain or murderer in other shows.

Lorne Malvo has to be the best tv villain of all time, my man is literally the personification of some primordial evil. It's also some next-level acting from Billy Bob Thornton to be able to pull that off.

I think the point here is that Lester seriously just wanted to win that game of chicken. He wanted to establish dominance over Malvo, which ironically is something Malvo taught him.

I've changed my mind over this over the years. But I actually think it was the right move from Lester to bash him over the head. I think Lorne Malvo sees this like a game. And any time Lester tries to get one over him, or tries to make things difficult for him he takes it on as a challenge. If Lester just gave in and helped him dispose of the bodies, I think Lester would be amongst the bodies by the end of it.

I like to think Malvo is also the embodiment of Pride as well or something for that matter and he's like a cancer because Lester doesn't act like this way until he runs into him in the hospital. He is a sympathetic beaten down person until he meets Malvo. Then things go south. But Then after escaping the police, after framing his brother, getting a new wife, getting salesman of the year, he throws it all away when he runs into Malvo again in Vegas.

Yeah, while the elevator scene is absolutely great, I agree, it shouldnt have happened in the first place. Lester knows Malvo, he knows what Malvo does, he knows he's a killer. Once he tells him "walk away!" then, drunk or not, he would have figured "oh shit, he's working some angle here and I nearly outed him" and then realized that if he pressed it it would not end well. I get that they wanted to have them enter eachothers lives again, but they shouldve done that in a way which would be consistent with the character.
Like, the whole thing could've even been done the same way, minus Lester going to the elevator. The fact that Lester seems to know him at the table as someone other than the dentist he pretends to be, obviously wouldve made Malvo's mark suspicious, and it wouldnt be a big stretch if the writers made that suspicion so big as to call off the whole taking Malvo to meet his brother who is in witness protection and Malvo being pissed at Lester for blowing it for him, and the rest could then play out as is.
Also, side note, it was just horrible improvisation on Malvo's part as well, which is also inconsistent with his character. You could see that when he was brought in by Gus that he is great at improvising and adapting to the situation very fast. When Lester approached him he could have just seized control of the encounter and said something like "hey! Lester! wow, it's been so long! your teeth look great btw, [and noticing the award] see didnt I tell you that fixing your teeth would work wonders for your confidence; look at you, winning... salesman of the year; good for you Lester! Guys this is Lester, I pretty much fixed his entire mouth, oh, about a year ago now, oh let me tell ya, it was a mess", yadda yadda yadda... all the while sending Lester a look that says "play along if you know whats good for you". All suspicion avoided

The thing is that Malvo didn't really care that Lester ruined his cover. He just treated it as a mild inconvenience as displayed by his reaction. Malvo is a guy that just does what he wants as long as chaos is involved. I dont think its inconsistent at all considering how calm and in conteol he always is.

Off-topic but, better to ask for forgiveness than beg for permission, right?
I notice you did Band of Brothers.
What I'd love to see from a filmmaker is a compare and contrast in storytelling style, cinematography, impact, and filmmaker's motivation between The Pacific and Band of Brothers.
We've seen reviews and reactions, but to my knowledge, there's no one that really broke it all down from a technical point of view. Especially using two different series set in the same time period by the same production crew.
You might even pair the episodes 1/1 from each. So, ep1 BoB alongside ep 1 The Pac, then 2/2, etc.
