I think what makes Lester's journey so delightful and oddly fulfilling is the slow realization that maybe Lester was *always* a scumbag deep down, but it was only after he fully admitted and embraced his evil side that he was able to self-actualize and become happier, smoother, and more successful than ever. And there's something thrilling and awesome about watching a character discover who they truly are - even if who they are is an amoral monster. :)
I couldn’t have said it better myself
ok but real talk the glitch in the beginning made my day. love your reactions, and love to see another person enjoy Fargo! If you like the offbeat style of Fargo you will probably enjoy the show Barry as well btw
I had to look at the comments to make sure I wasn't crazy lmfao
That intro you had made me think my phone was broken. Lol
people have been bringing up all the cinematic homages i thought someone would for sure mention the kill bill nod when malvo tells me.wrench that if he’s still bitter to come find him
The unexpected timeskip is so good.
One of the most shocking TV moments for sure. But then when you think about it it’s really the only thing that makes sense.
My jaw literally dropped when i saw it
nice to see you experimenting in the intro, very interesting visuals
Slimy as he is, I gotta admire Lester's new lease on life. I'd think of him as a weasel.
That's a good reading. Predatory, but eating bugs and worms and still prey to big cats or the mighty wolf.
Yep. Or maybe a rat. A Big. Fat. Rat.
@@tacticalgrace6456 rats are incredibly empathic animals though. It's really only western culture that views them as dirty or pests. Many eastern culture view rats as a sign of prosperity and wealth, the reasoning being that if there is enough food for rats to thrive, there is enough food for people to thrive.
When it comes to the animal representations I've read somewhere that Lester represents a Koi Fish, which in one story swam up against the stream and became a dragon, which I think fits him perfectly.
A representation i could definitely get behind
like the poster he knocked himself out on in the first episode
idk if that one swam up against the stream but it did swim in the opposite direction of all the other fish
@@scoopdoopfloop ok, that kinda cements it for me. I was feeling otter at first, but a fish that left the safety of the pond feels right too. Just bear in mind, he isn't an apex predator by any means
Unrelated: Sounds like Magicarp & Gyarados were based on the same story!
They hire a lot of comedic actors to play serious roles in this series. You will see it in other seasons as well.
1:28 Dope moves man
That last shot of silver-fox Malvo, with the music building tension and rising and rising! Chef’s Kiss. That’s the good stuff.
I think Lester is like a kind and gentle dog that was beaten down again and again. Finally backed into a corner as far as he could go, he lashed out. In doing so, he realized he not only survived but thrived. Now that his inner wolf has been released, perhaps we'll get to see how far it takes him - and whether its more bark, or more bite.
This is a very interesting take. I read him as an omnivore that didn't know how to hunt until Malvo came into his life, but he is DEFINITELY not an apex predator. He is still prey for something more fierce
Anyone else get chills during that closing scene? The slow zoom in, the music, it's so good.

FARG
*Stares glitchily*
This is one of the best season of TV I’ve seen and the whole show is just incredible. Your hype is contagious every time I watch your reactions James. Cheers man.
Malvo saw Mr Wrench as a worthy opponent and out of respect and admiration, set him free.
Lmao the glitches in the beginning are epic. I say leave it - in case you are thinking of re-uploading.
Weasel was the first animal that came to my mind to describe Lester.
Ah yes, this and True Detective got me back into tv series when they first came out. I always assumed tv can't compete with the box office, not true, great characters, script, score etc, you don't need million dollar cgi and grand sets, take the Fargo route
@@neilsun2521 Exactly, too short, movies now (for me) seem like a 90min knockoff to kill some time, but a tv series can span many more hours than a movie, even years, and get you really invested in the characters/story
@@neilsun2521 yep. I dont think I have seen any movie, as many times ive watched The Sopranos..wire and twin peaks also.
I love next conversation that Lester and Malvo will have
Is this what you want?
@@renfineout5350 Yes or no.
Hey, psyched to see a Fargo episode up! Man, I have watched so many of your vids and just saw I was unsubscribed...tf? Fixed that error, geeze. I'll up my like/comment game as well. Truly enjoy and appreciate your conent.
1. The glitch at the beginning is freaky AF :O lol 2. If Lester was something besides a human it would have to be something parasitical. Maybe like a pilot fish that latches on to a shark and feeds off the bits of scum that accumulate in the larger predator's wake. 3. Cant wait for next episode + the ending. This show is bonkers.
I see him as a rat. Rats can be vicious and are definitely opportunistic. And they also get the scraps from off of larger animals.
Lester is a snake , malvo is a dragon.
A friend was taping this show for me and when I saw episode 8, I thought it was the last episode due to the 1 year jump. I really liked the series and thought it ended a bit ambiguously. I went to re-watch the show before season 2 came out and realized I missed 2 episodes. That was really exciting to know I there was more to the story and I felt stupid not paying attention to the episode count.
Fargo is life lmao I've watched the whole series so many times i lost count probably around 8 9 times already lol
"I'm assuming she now has a spleen "
I'm strarting to think you skipped on your biology bro
Technically yes, she does, but that will change in a matter of weeks.
@@slayerrocks2 underrated response, nicely done
"She can't investigate now she's pregnant..." I know I've seen a reaction from you to the movie...

Have a great day everyone!
Bruh... you have such great things to say in the moment when reacting, but it makes it SUPER hard not to spoil anything! Glad to know you've at least finished season one so I can just say...
Gus in the cabin....FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-
The soundtrack: most (probably all) of the songs used are covers of songs from Coen Brother movies.
Hearing the main theme from the movie as "one year later" pops on screen gave me chills the first time
Lol that glitch at the start looks wild
A zebra
maybe it's the b&w suit
but they can be hard to pinpoint for predators and flies
He’s a rat.
I imagine a weasel representing Lester.
Has anyone else been having a SUPER hard time not discussing spoilers? I'm super excited for the reaction to the last episode of this season and even more excited for **MILD SPOILERS** BBT's narration in season 3. Minds will be absolutely blown.
This intro is borderline experimental.
Lester is like an otter. Cute and unassuming, but an omnivore that learned to kill the big fish. Still...he could be prey for something more fierce
Hey man, since you watched a lot of these underrated sci-fi movies like Elysium, Oblivion, etc. I highly recommend In Time (2011) and District 9 (2009) ;)
That intro though :D
umm intro a bit bugged haha
I highly recommend reacting to the Korean action thriller show called My Name. Its on Netflix and It’s about a girl who wants to get revenge after her father is murdered. The plot, acting and whole show is amazing!
I second this. It’s a very enjoyable 8 episode series
Lester a honey badger
Key and Peele are really great actors and they obviously have the chemistry together.
Goliath on prime is another great series w Billy Bob Thornton you'd probably enjoy.
Fargo season 1 is maybe even better than Breaking Bad season 5
Somebody should sync that intro with some really fast scratching...
Lester is a WEASEL! rat works too although it has other connotations. Racoon works too.
I’ll say Lester is a tiger.
Tigers only strike or stalk towards prey when they’re not spotted, when they’re spotted they’ll stop and act like they weren’t, which I think goes with Lester and how he considers acting sinisterly, but when question or when cops are around, he’ll put on the Minnesota nice and mumble it all off.
But a fox is just as good.
She cant investigate while pregnant? Have you seen the movie Fargo?
