haha thanks, I think my channel is stuck in a loop, YT doesn't recommend my content much, unless it is ''discovered''. That said, I do notice it slowly gets a bit more traction.
I'm just gonna say it, Amano really dropped the ball with Final Fantasy 5's main cast. His designs are so lifeless and carry none of the vibrant colorful energy of Final Fantasy 5. His art works well for a more somber characters like Cecil, but there is no way that Bartz is this albino emo Amano draws him as. His work characters like Exdeath and Gilgamesh is good, but Bartz, Galuf, Faris, and Lenna are severely let down by these illustrations. Personally, I think Kazuko's art is the more faithful interpretation.
I like your take on that, indeed Bartz is everything except emo. Indeed, he seldom draws the characters smiling/happy/energetic. Nonetheless, when I look at his later works he did improve this in FF9 with Zidane and Garnet though. But truth to be told, I think his eye style is a bit too serious at times, making the smile less genuine. (but that's just my opinion). That aside I still think his costume designs are interesting in FF5, and by far, his Krile artwork where she lies on the ground with the bird is my favorite (maybe even from all his works).
@@GameArts1 I would like to say that I appreciate that you took the time to respond to my comment. Not many content creators take the time. I can see what you mean about Krile. She is probably the one with the most similarity to her sprite work. Of course, I think this is most likely because Krile was the only main character to fit Amano's niche. Amano drew all the female main characters with blonde hair and Krile just happened to be the one blonde main character. I think his problem also comes down to over designing the characters. When you look at Vivi from FF9, you see how much he added onto the design of a simple black mage. It is difficult to even trace the black mage as the influence. You were also right about the expressions. Aside from monsters, every character has the same expression.
@@joeljames2683 That's so true. I do like that Amano breaks the mold of his own blonde habit in FF9, (changing Garnet's hair to darker colors). And although he admitted that' he just likes to draw his character blonde, Imo he's great at dark haired characters (vampire hunter D looks best with dark hair compared to silver imo, also one image of Yuna FFX-2 looks excellent with the dark hair and black outfit).
Thanks for the vide, this is my favorite art in the world
What the heck? How do you not have more subs and views?! Your content is so good! Also, I love Amano's work.
