- So, #catalystgamelabs / #CGL just did a big news dump on their website for #Battletech, for multiple eras and products. From #Battlemech packs, through to #SuccessionWars releases, and things for the #Ilclan era and #DarkAge. Let's take a look.

Pre-painting one mech in a pack of 4 or 5 is a baffling decision.
The factory pitched it to them. They went with it.
I guess paint over it shouldnt be a too big hazzle. If reprime it will cover too much details, applying your chosen colors over the parts you wanna paint is a backup plan. Remember to varnish once done of course
Catalyst should of had a painted mech pack for sale instead.

So long as it doesn't impact the price I'm pretty ambivalent to it. However I came from the Clix side of things so stripping and priming isn't new to me.
At best, they could be good style guides for people who would otherwise be hesitant (or decision paralyzed) to paint up their plastic.

My biggest concern is these new force packs continue to go up in price. One of Battletech's biggest selling points has been the cost, especially vs other companies (I'm looking at you, GeeDub) but this steady increase is bringing them more in line with those prices. Still, a Lance is a fully fieldable unit, unlike a half box of something you need two or three of to be usable.
Most of the packs, to be fair, have more items in them. They're still on average around 8ish dollars a machine. So there doesn't appear to be major inflation atm, but its worth keeping an eye on.
I agree if the price goes up one more time I’ll do the 40K thing and stop financially supporting and print all my stuff.
Dont forget they are produced in China and well... the shipping situation with the attacks around Iran, India, south east sea is a threat and can hamper imports/ exports

@@georgee9250 Prices do have to go up slowly over time just due to the nature of cost increases. There is an inflationary period happening atm.
I really hope that Battletech continues to succeed and grow. I only got into it a bit over a year ago, but it has been great, and Catalyst has done a fantastic job with the new minis and other peripheral stuff. With that being said, I am personally not a fan of anything from after the fedcom civil war, and I don't plan on picking up much of the newly announced stuff (I did snag 2 battalions in the Kickstarter so I will be able to field a monstrous amount of vehicles when they arrive). I hope that they continue to at least intermittently support the older stuff and expand on those product lines down the road too. I'd love to see more of the older inner sphere, clan, and vehicles down the road, as there are definitely a lot of opportunities for mechs that have no models, as well as lots of interesting variants of existing models. More aerospace models would be awesome too.
Thing with aerospace is that i dont think they are too popular to play purely due to how different their rules are from everything else. They add a LOT of complexity to an already complex game
@@thorveim1174 I feel like there's potential for Aerospace to have a minor rewrite to bring it more in line with the rest of the game. Like, an optional "Hey, don't wanna spend an extra hour accounting for plane velocity and altitude? Use these rules" sorta thing.

Great summary! I hope they got EVERY faction jammed into the Universe book, like the Aurigan Coalition and its map status shown through the eras up to iLClan. I fell in love with the recently canonized periphery state through HBS Battletech, Im just hungry for more! Also I HOPE to the metal gods we outside ( Norway here )US gets all these goodies not long after you, and that there will be PDF files to buy regarding the books, sourcebooks etc if it will be a struggle to get our share of physical copies. Not least.. Mech Warrior 5 Clans I guess will hit summer I bet for extra Battletech goodness as a Smoke Jaguar pilot!
I suspect we'll hear about The Auigan Coalition, but I doubt it'll get a huge write-up.
@@BigRed40TECH As long as its something, the alredy established with a bit extra. Though.. Better that they take their time with the faction and do the lorecanon backstory, intrigues, characters and interactions etc with the others correctly and with alit of depth. Than to make any " rushed ", shallow effort to expand its lore for the sake of it. Of course this counts for any factions of varying degrees, like the Jarnfolk
I am glad to hear you are moving towards one video a week to help you through these projects. Hopefully you can build a back log of smaller videos to release and that could help a lot with stress of constantly putting out content.
Nah, that's not even it. It's just the hours prevent me from playing or painting, and I'd like to you know, actually do those things. lol
While I'll miss the 2 vids a week, I am glad to hear you are scaling back on your hours producing videos. It will be good to hear or see you actually gaming, & getting some painting in as you actually get to enjoy the hobby.
Honestly I wish the boxes would come with a set of transfers for each ‘mech that covers each house, a couple of the big name merc groups, and a couple of major clans if its a clan mech or has an identical appearance IIC variant.

Personally, with my mech collection growing, rare is the mech that I desire or need...but if cgl starts making more combined arms plastic...battle armor, aerospace, and flying craft, warships, infantry, tanks and hovercraft, etc...THAT would be really exciting to me!!😉
I am really happy and excited for Catalyst getting into a traditional release schedule! I have been hoping for this, something to look forward to every quarter (or hopefully monthly). I feel it’s very healthy for growing the community and increasing money spent per customer. It’s work wonders for Warcradle and Dystopian Wars, plus other companies!
Big news! I'm mostly excited, although that's tempered by the fact I know I still have the Mercenaries kickstarter stuff incoming so I want to get all of that first before I look to get more. CGL moving toward a stable release cycle is honestly the best thing out of this announcement for me because it's a good sign the game and the company are moving in the right direction as far as a business is concerned.
As for your own news: I'm glad you're taking time to do things you want.
Really happy that we will get a savage wolf (i am not interested in the era but I LOVE the idea of that workhorse being made more modern and I have been disappointed twice in models bought from Etsy)... Not too happy it will come pre-painted, which I have no idea how to deal with between just painting over it (with or without primer) or attempting to remove the paint :(

Definitely interested in the Lore and force books although I'll be waiting till next year on the Marik book I suppose. Several of the force packs are of interest, but I'll likely get the McCarrons pack, for the Awesome, over the Star League packs. I'll have tons of mechs to paint with the Kickstarter so these releases are further down the list for me. Appreciate the update!
I want the Atlas II so bad I can taste it. I really hope the Mercenaries Kickstarter stuff ships sooner than the original ETA. I and a friend are going to get like three or four of our friends together and try to do a huge one off or maybe start a strategic campaign. Thanks as always BR.

I’m really looking forward to the Hinterlands book! I love the opportunities such a balkanized setting provides and largely missed out on the Chaos March as an active part of the setting.
Also, I’m quite pumped for you to get to put some time into painting! Well earned!

I'm not the biggest WoD fan, but I know a bit, I enjoyed the mechanics in Werewolf. It's a fun game.

i own the Historical war of 3039 and Historical Brush Wars Source books and they are 2 of my favorites, stoked they are getting back into those, can wait to see what else they release. great vid red
don't forget the vids out of China of Dropships including the Mule. But the main types up to and including the Fortress.
Cant wait to get my hands on the Tian-Zong, and Hinterlands related stuff I'm sure will be good fun. Not to mention the release of FMs Davion and Kurita can only mean we are getting closer to the FM of the glorious and resplendent House Liao.

Hype train!! It's good to see Catalyst getting the support for Mercenaries and IlKhanate out there this year. I expect to see that mega 48 x 72 map at local and convention events. And man, those force manuals! Also good to see some of the newer 'mechs getting the plastic, so new players can get them.
I really like how they are moving to more frequent releases with less in each drop because I can’t afford to make big splurge purchases but it’s much easier to pick up a new force pack here and there.
I’m really excited for both the q3 and q4 packs in particular because I want later era mechs to show the progression of my homegrown force through the years

No news on which specific Kintaro, I'm guessing whatever looks closest to base model.
They are finally doing a lance packs along with the field manual equivalent with the 3rd star league!
@bigred40tech the blueprints were a thing that Fasa did in the past I have all of them, it was originally Warhammer, Battlemaster, marauder, locust and another. The followed up by the clan ones which was Mad Dog, Hellbringer, Summoner And Timberwolf.
I don't remember those at all lol
Gotta have to get those Force Manual as they get available, because I do devore those sourcebooks.
And I can't wait to receive the BattleTech Universe book.
Not gonna lie; almost expected the Force Manual to bring out the IlClan setting, just to flesh it out more.

Between their high cost, the pre-painted mini, and excitement over kickstarter packs these
might not do to well.
The only part of them that interests me is the support vehicles and if they become available
through secondary sales that's where I'll pick them up. Hope they become available through
salvage boxes or individually.

they are released then the Star League packs.

The Atlas II pack is going to sell regardless. I want the Lament myself, but I'm genuinely annoyed that its prepainted. I'll be getting that one regardless, but the other League packs, while interesting, I don't know if they'll be interesting enough for me to buy.
I'm really not enthralled with the prepainted miniatures.

Consider that if someone as big on this stuff as you doesn't know if the other packs are interesting enough
for you to purchase I think you have an idea that the rest of the crowd might wish to spend their money
on something they find a better value.
FYI-if their smart enough to sell the support vehicles separately I'd buy multiples of them.

That's something that has to be worked out by CGL and LVS. I'm sure we'll hear more throughouth the year about that, and other things.
With the Big Mac and the next source book coming out at kind of the same time, it implies some Big Mac shenanigans with House Liao and Clan Wolf....errr the "star league". I want the last 3 star league packs. I find myself not excited for a tian zong though.
Guh... They painted the Lament? That's the one I want most out of that pack and now I need to do extra work to make it usable... Such a stupid idea, either paint all of them or paint none of them.

If the paint of the pre-painted minis is as thinly applied as it was with the X-Wing Miniatures Game ships, it'll be no problem to just paint over the existing paint job.

I'm hyped about the Brush Wars updates. I've been wanting to get the book with Anton's Revolt but the old art is rooouuuuggghhhh and some of the maps are in black and white (and thus hard to read).

private companies don't divulge their secrets, but its sales in 2023 were strong from what I know.
Adding extra bits to boxes and increasing their cost is such a bad idea. They are selling one box for 30 now as opposed to 25 previously. As a player wanting everything, butting 2 or something at 25 dollars is way more do able than one at 30.
Kids on the other hand, won't be able to keep up. They just lost out on two sales.
I'm sure there are reasons for it. Its likely linked to their own costs going up, and because its licensed product, they don't always have the best of margins I suspect. Still, we'll see what happens.
Man, I wish I had the shelf space for the new books. I used to collect BattleTech but stopped after FedCom Civil War, but I have Pathfinder and Shadowrun (and 3pp 5e) stuff taking all the shelf space.

No pre-orders for it yet. Hopefully we hear from CGL about that before the Kickstarter arrives.
The Battletech Universe book sounds interesting. I'm still not convinced of the ilClan era. But then again I didn't really like the Dark Age or Jihad lorewise either. I'm curious if the next era will be more to my liking. But given the trend I won't keep my hopes up.
There are good parts and bad parts. I really wish the core of the story on Terra was something I was more interested in.

Unlikely, it'd take far too long to actually put together.
I hope some of the Force Manuals include new Warships. Probably Age of War or First Star League era but maybe they'll start introducing new IlClan era Warships. I doubt I'll be that lucky but there's always hope. I'm curious what the new Starslayer variant will be as wel because I love the 3D and the 4C is probably my favorite SRM carrying Medium (The fact its one shot so you don't have ammo explosion concerns unless you get hit at long range or hold back the shot helps)
I wouldn't count on it delving into Warships tbh.
@@BigRed40TECH I know but they might. That's probably the biggest reason I hate the Jihad and Dark Age era. Before Dark Age came out I honestly thought we were going into a Battletech Warship Golden Age as the Inner Sphere nations were all working to produce new designs, and eventually the Clans would need to produce newer designs in response. Then came the Blakists to ruin the fun.
@@roguerifter9724 Warships were always a bad fit for the setting. The Blakist era is an example of how Warships work in Battletech, even.
@@BigRed40TECH I always had a lot of fun with Anerotech and Battlespace with small warship fleets (three to five ships.) I played larger fleets sometimes but usually preferred the smaller ones.
The main reason Endgame is my second favorite Battletech novel is I think it had the best fleet battles of the Battletech novels I've read (Everything released in the US pre-Darke Age, and about half.to two thirds of the Dark Age novels but only a few of the novels and short story collections from the more current Battletech line)
@@roguerifter9724 Aerotech and Battlespace were sadly never that successful, and their involvement in the setting invalidates the core parts of the setting. That's why I doubt we'll see much with them.
Honestly, kind of hope a toy company might step up and try making toys again, mostly so it would be like a bridge for the younger generation to get interested in the game that they watch their older siblings or parents are playing.

@@BigRed40TECH be honest several years ago it was one of those things I couldn't get out of my head thinks to that big fig line they had going of, if you never saw them it was these 3 1/2 foot tall maybe bigger figures of star wars, power rangers, WcW. And I couldn't get it out of my head, why not a few giant fighting robots, heck even the power rangers they didn't even make the megazord.

Is it weird I'm more exicted for the vehicles coming out in those lance/star packs than the mechs?
It's something relatively new to the setting, and it means that its easier access to a whole other section fo the game. It's not weird.
Not stoked for the prepainted stuff, just sounds like extra work, BUT… having a new Kintaro and Helios makes me pretty excited to have.

I’m refraining from diving into ilclan until I see a faction book for Steiner. Them and marick are in really bad spots (lore wise) and have kind of been set on the back burner atm.
To be fair, Marik's been given more screentime than almost ever. Though I'd argue Nikol's an awful leader, so that doesn't help. XD
I am hopeful, though also doubtful, that CGL will one day allow for purchasing individual mechs (outside of the force packs or box sets). I would be okay with them charging a little extra if it meant I could get mechs I will use instead of mechs that take up space in my dropship.
Seems very unlikely, the economics of the battlemechs would stop making sense, and it'd prevent further expansion of the range.
There are multiple people that offer this service for those that want it. The Battletech trade and sell FB group has at least one guy. But him, just like if CGL did it, ends up with a per mech cost that quickly makes it uneconomical to build armies with. The best option is if you have a local player group, to trade all your minis. If you have regular game days, organize a day where everyone brings everything they have and barters or sells.

Booo, more merc lance boxes you can barely get your hands on in the EU.
I only just found a shop that had the Highlanders in stock without an outrageous price tag (like they do on ebay or even Amazon).
Other than that, this might not seem like a super massive release window... But it is when it's happening besides that massive KS campaign.
Those boxes only exist because the exclusive company paid for them to exist sadly.
@@BigRed40TECH yeah... And it's not the end of the world. They will get here eventually too... I saw the video CGL did on them and it didn't sound like they were that happy with it, but it made more sense from a business PoV.
That being said, there's just generally a lot of stuff in the EU that is battletech related, but impossible to get your hands on without paying through the nose: the official decals, the premium models, many of the newer IWM designs (Ral Partha EU only seems to make the oldschool/goofy mech designs it seems), etc.
Hopefully they can make it more accessible for the rest of the world.

Brush Wars is the only thing I am interested in. Agree - the prices are getting high. The field manual series...ehhh..I still have the House books. Hinterlands looks interesting and would just adapt it to another era.

@@RhoIotaKappa Per miniature cost is still around 7-8 dollars a miniature, most of these packs just have more than 4 miniatures.

All of this news is really cool. But in my opinion, Catalyst need to ditch the pre-painted mechs. They're a massive turn-off.
So long as the CGL employees don't start publicly crapping on the fan-base for "reasons", they'll be fine.
They do have a large number of contractors who don't directly work for them, and its hard to police just that many people, but most of the staff and contractors are well mannered and don't dislike the fanbase. It's impossible to say that for everyone, just because there are too many non-company folks involved with it. But in general, fighting with fans has poor outcomes for creators involved with the setting. So I'd not be too worried.
Creators are entitled to their opinions too, but they're almost universally respectful.
Yep, as long as they don’t start attacking people because of a certain “p” word. As long as they stick to Battletech content it’ll be fine.
CGL doesn't crap on fans. They stay quiet and allow fans to attack each other. I've seen it happen on the official forums, on Reddit, and other social media.
That being said, CGL has mostly been making pretty smart moves, and there are a couple of employees I still have faith in.
