    I know this is a bit older of a video, but as much as I appreciate the information I've just gotta comment on a few things. What's the point of all that resolve if you won't use it? You move your closest mech out in the open out of cover when starting that second encounter and you don't even use Vigilance which would reduce your damage taken while out of cover. Then when firing with your longer range ballistics you didn't try a called shot to increase your chance to hit from afar and against evasion stacks. This is less of a criticism and more of a PSA for others to understand and benefit from combat tactics of which I'm still learning as well. If you move a mech up front to be the tank essentially then if you have the resolve use vigilance if you don't have bulwark + cover to decrease the incoming damage. If your firing from afar with low hit chance and/or the enemy mech as evasion stacks then try precision shot to increase the chance to hit (aim for the legs as it's a great reverse psychology to the game AI as you'll probably hit center torso instead, lol). Thank you for your very informative video it has taught me a a lot!

  • @NSDP15

    I’ve found that for the majority of the game medium lasers and lrms are really the only weapon systems necessary. Laser boats like the hunchback, black knight and battlemaster were really powerful in medium to close range. Missile boats like the kintaro, catapult, and stalker were devastating from long range almost knocking down mech in single volleys. Then mechs that can run both like the trebuchet, Orion and the awesome are great for doing a bit of both. I feel like the game has a definite meta in medium to long range play until the player gets heavier assaults that shrug off multiple alphas with their armor. That kind of play can get a little boring, cause it’s just deleting mechs with the same weapons over and over, but I think it saved me from worrying about tactics until the missions where mechs aren’t built by the player. Those ones were head-aches.

  • @TonyMalocca
    @TonyMalocca 3 года назад +25

    I regularly make head shots. You get all 3 'mech chassis parts in the salvage. Bring a Marauder along for the called shot bonus. Often get 2 or 3 head shots each mission.

      One play through I got my first Marauder to a headshot, same map I also got a rifleman (headshot), thunderbolt (headshot). On a map with two lances of medium/heavies, and only 3/12 salvage.

    • @TheRyujinLP

      How high does your gunner skill have to be before you get decent amount of headshots? Most of my pilots got the called shot perk and I've never landed a single headshot (or any called shot) in my whole play thought even when I spam missiles. On the other hand I can't go a mission without a mech getting hit with at lest two (for some reason the first mech of mine that gets head shot seems to become a headshot sponge for the rest of the mission).

    • @emdotambient
      @emdotambient 2 года назад +4

      @@TheRyujinLP You want a decent Gunnery skill but what you REALLY need is Tactics at 9 for called shot mastery. Pilots with that will usually get a 17% to 18% chance of hitting the head. If that pilot is in a Marauder, it goes up to 35%, so roughly one in three shots will be a headshot. Stick one or two Gauss Rifles on a Marauder piloted by a Mechwarrior with called shot mastery and you're a fricking sniper monster.

    CyclopsZ and marauder piloted by 2 vanguards(master tactician) and 2 archers piloted by 2 lancers(breaching shot) are my staple lance. Archer pieces show up about twice as common as marauder in regular stores, that I usually fill out two in about the same amount of time as the other; and cyclopsZ usually the first full-mech-buy I make when the blackmarket becomes available.
    This lance doesn’t just clear every mission in the game, it also can get every bonus objective as well; ones that often times require even greater response and mobility than what a full assault lance can give, even with their extra firepower.

      Standard colors usually determine the angle you are firing from. Green from the rear, Blue from the sides, Red from the front. If you are referring to Battletech 3025 Mod, that may be different, might refer to the height levels. I didn't play 3025 all that much, had issues with the mod. I believe you could also change colors based on weapon type in 3025 to see what weapon you are firing and where it can reach.

    For added fun, had a Marauder and HQ Cyclops running with it for a innate 20% damage reduction, +1 Acc boost, +1 Initaitive Boost, and Marauder does its own sniping bit. Final memeber of team was a Highlander 733B (think was its number) using LRMs, Med Lasers, and a Pair of LBX-2+++ I found (each LBX-2 had the +4 Dmg... these things shredded armor like crazy).

      *campaign play threw,
      Both UA5s were -2 recoil and -2 ton, with ANH-1A seige boost made Gauss hit for 90 dmg, and each UA5 was 54 per shot. 396 total damage from Alpha, TSS +3 ballistic and +1 from cyclops. Super accurate ;) I definitely was worried at first about losing a gauss rifle, but once you realize how fast the enemy drops, it's no longer a worry. I generally used marauder and cyclops as forward scout's, they take the heat being closer to the enemy, then ANH-1A. Would use them to go after smaller stuff. Once you have visual and line of fire, the ANH-1A nukes the big targets dead. Highlander for clean up and odd jobs with its armor shredding.
      Gauss Rifle doing 90 dmg ment the ANH-1A could still take the head off someone who had 20% damage reduction in one hit with its crazy range. Most of the time I just targeted CT since it was normally a 87% chance to hit and cored out the mech without RNG being a pain.
      Would have loved to get damaged boosted Gauss rifles but I forgot about the black market thing and pissed the pirates off. Next time I play threw need to not mess my faction up ;)

    I usually consolidate my ammo to CT in the early game and my thought process is "Well if they take out CT, that mech's a goner anyways so it doesn't really matter."
    But:
    There's always this fear lingering in the back of my head over whether or not it makes CT more vulnerable... does it? or is this fear unfounded?

    • @barundarstreams5288
      @barundarstreams5288  Год назад +1

      It depends. The AI isn't going to use a called shot. Another player will. But it is still easier to target and disable a mech via the legs then the CT. Only thing with ammo on CT is it is closer to the head when it explodes and can take out the pilot easier.
      It really comes down to playstyle. If you play a close game where you use a lot of melee or short range strikes you have a higher chance of splash damage hitting your CT than if you play a distance game. That's why I play distance and try to call shot on the weapons that will be a danger to my mech. But I can't remember my ammo being hit more than once, usually I can remove a mech quick enough that its not an issue.
      Either way, they still have to cut through the armor before they can hit the ammo and the CT has a ton of meat to go through first.

DFA does dmg to the attacker when you jump on them from above. What I meant was a jump attack on level ground will do dmg to you as it counts as a DFA attack. Meaning, you jump from level ground to level ground and do a melee attack, you take dmg. I might have been in the mind set that there would be some armor loss to the attacker with a straight melee, but there isn't. Thanks for bringing that up! Glad you enjoyed the vid!

Melee damage ignores evasion and is one of the best ways of swatting fast moving light mechs as they run past. A bigger mech hitting a smaller mech will almost always take off an arm or arm + side. You will often get one hit kills with melee (for no ammo and no heat). You don't get to claim worlds in Battletech. You can run missions for factions at the different planets to earn reputation points, cash, and parts. Missions have their own story lines that will progress you through the game.

      I tend to only use Gauss Rifles on my Marauder. Two of them on a Marauder with a pilot at 9 or 10 Tactics and you've got the ultimate sniper. On the Anni I use 4x UAC/10++ (+10 Stb. Dmg, -3 Tons). Each shot does 15 less than a Gauss, but you get two shots each ... so 8 shots total per alpha strike, making its max damage better than a Gauss variant. With good Gunnery and a TTS for ballistics you hit the same location fairly consistently.
      The max damage on the 4x UAC/10 Anni comes out to 480 damage, which is 186 less than the 2x UAC/20, 2x LLas, 1x MLas build in the video, but your OPTIMUM range is 300 meters, which is farther away than the UAC/20's MAXIMUM range of 270 meters. And, given that Annihilators are monstrously slow movers, by the time a 2x UAC/20 variant gets its big weapons into range, the 4x UAC/10 will have torn it to shreds, not to mention the heat inefficiency of the Anni in the video. My 4x UAC/10 with 5x DHS, 3x SHS, and an Exchanger ++ (20% reduced weapon heat) sinks 69 of 76 and almost never has to pause for cooling except maybe on Martian and Lunar maps. Given that almost nothing survives an alpha strike, it's super rare that the Annihilator has to shut down a weapon.

      OH ... and my current missile boat is a Stalker with 4x LRM20+++ (+50% Crit chance, +2 Stab. Dmg.) but in a past play I used a Bull Shark with 4x LRM20+++. Trying to find another Bull Shark now.

      4 lrm 20? I think thats borderline glass cannon as your armor will be ultra weak. I tried it and barely got it to work in campaign. Still, good firepower.
      I like to mix dmg lrms with stab lrms.1 of each type for both 15 and 20.

      im not sure about AC 10...they seem to do slightly more damage than AC5 but have shorter range and way more tonnage.
      seems that AC 20 and AC 5 are the most tonnage efficient. i rarely consider using an AC 10.
      but maybe 4 UAC 10 can do better.

    • @emdotambient
      @emdotambient 2 года назад

      @@cobrazax Like I said above, it's the UAC/10++ (+10 Stb. Dmg, -3 Tons) that I prefer. And it's really the -3 tons that make them viable. 120 max damage per shot since each shot is two 60 damage slugs.
      Max range of 450. In practical terms, I'm almost never engaging beyond that range anyway. I use a Black Knight with JJ as my scout, my Marauder as a sniper, and the Annihilator as shredder backup. So the Black Knight is out front but not so far as to become the only mech drawing aggro from the enemy. The Marauder and Anni move in tandem. And my Stalker missile boat finds a protected place in the back.
      Looking at two mechs I have, one with the 4x UAC/10++, and one with a single UAC/5++ ... I use 2t of ammo per gun on both builds. That seems a bit shy on the 4x UAC/10 but I've never run out of ammo on it yet and I'm fairly late game. Anyway, the UAC/10++ is 10t, the UAC/5++ is 7t. So that's 12 tons with ammo for the 10 and 9 tons with ammo for the 5 ... calculating maximum damage divided by the tonnage, they BOTH come out to 10 damage per ton. So the only difference between them is the range, which I have never found to be an issue, and the heat ... Calculating Heat/Damage you end up with the 10s at 0.2 heat per damage and the 5s at 0.18 heat per damage. So they're pretty close

    No matter what Mech I put my Main Character into, that Mech Overheats like all the time... but when I put other Characters into that same Mech, it doesn't Overheat so much for them... and they all have the same Stats, pretty much... so I dunno WTH is going on with that, lol.

    • @barundarstreams5288
      @barundarstreams5288  2 года назад +1

      Your character's skills will only affect the overheat threshold and only if their Guts skill is high. You control the overheat by using heat sinks on your Mechs and turning off weapons from time to time during battle. You also need to be aware of your location. Fighting in hot areas will increase your heat when you fire. Fighting in Jungles, moons, etc will be hot ground and will tap your Mechs a ton. Try moving into water or run some missions on cold planets until you can get some heat sinks. Otherwise you just need to regulate what weapons you fire to control it. Also enemy fire can increase heat on your mech if they have something like a flamethrower attached and hits you at close range.

      @@barundarstreams5288 Yeah, seems like they don't give me enough Tonnage on my Mechs to put a lot of Heat Sinks on them... I tried an Exchanger I think it's called, and also another thing I forgot the name of that takes a lot of Slots up, but not very much Tonnage... but those didn't seem to do the job very well even tho my Heat Efficiency was Maxed out... so, I dunno. :/

    • @barundarstreams5288
      @barundarstreams5288  2 года назад +1

      @@kriz2432 Yep, managing Tonnage vs Heat is tricky. Heat sinks reduce the total heat after firing for the round. Heat banks increase your max heat before shutdown and your max threshold, meaning you can fire more per round. Exchangers reduce a percent of heat per weapon fired. Some even have the + or ++ variety which will give you better percents. There are also double heat sinks which give you -6 heat vs -3 for the single size. What you have to do is reduce armor as armor counts towards tonnage or drop weapons or ammo if you want more sinks. Otherwise you have to turn on and off weapons in battle or not fire a round to get the heat down. You should be doing that anyway. You can go back and pause my vid on the mech builds part and look at how many sinks and banks I used vs how many weapons I have. I still have to turn off weapons to keep the heat down. But armor weighs more than you think, so you might be able to make up some tonnage there.

    • @barundarstreams5288
      @barundarstreams5288  2 года назад +1

      PS: if you are using a lighter mech, use less weapons or smaller weapons. I didn't use too many ballistics or big guns on my earlier mechs as they use too much tonnage. In early game you need to use jump jets sparingly too as they generate heat. Lasers are accurate but have high heat (PPCs and LR lasers especially) and ballistics have low heat but are heavy and need ammo. Try using Missiles, maybe SRM 4/6 or LRM 5-10 until you have a bigger mech. If you have big mechs, see my previous post.

      @lofipanduh clearly you are passionate about the game and I respect that. I don't want to get into a rules debate when they aren't fresh in my mind. The vid was to help people who know nothing to be able to try and play it. Yes, some things are off as people in comments mentioned and I appreciate it. I'm not an expert. But I beat the game playing this way easily. Height grants bonus in any TBT. That's standard. My point with range is the way the AI and missions are set up I can outrage almost any mech, that's how I liked to play and I worked for me. But nothing is a lie, that's extreme. It's just my understanding of the game. It's not perfect, but it helped some people play and have fun. In PVP this is all different and hard core players will differ from my methods.

But even with With Mech 5 there should be more command ability's and a more dynamic mode of the career mode . Battle Zone 2 Combat Commander 1999 had more command ability's LOL Some ways we have gone back wards in the PC gaming industry . While Graphics have improved 10000% Game Mechanics have actually decreased. lol
