The strange part, however, is the fact that the salesman DODGES these attacks [you know, the attacks that just defeated Majora] and laughs before vanishing. I really think the salesman is actually one of the members of the tribe that originally worshiped Majora and this is why he had such a strong interest in the mask. He even realizes the dark power is gone from the mask in the end of the game.
@@Goodbutevilgenius It's still interesting to pick up little snippets in other Zelda-related media to create your own theories about these strange characters in the Zelda universe. You seem to be a bit narrow-minded.
Something interesting I've heard about the mask salesman is he's a representation of Shigeru Miyamoto. Which makes sense to me because as a kid to me the mask salesman always seemed like a 4th wall break. Existing outside of the games reality, obviously being capable of getting the mask himself, being able to do things like pull a giant organ out of thin air to teach the song of healing to Link yet still relying on link. Almost like a game master. Definitely a very interesting way of creating termina.
Something that always made the Poe Collector even creepier to me personally was the fact that I never saw that red spot beneath his hood as a "glowing eye." Instead, to me it always looked like the bloody end of a neck stump, as if he was a headless corpse that somehow kept living.
My personal headcanon for the poe collector has always been that he is missing his head and what we are seeing is just the wound left by it. I dont know why but i cannot unsee that ever since i was a kid.
Here's an idea, what if Hino isn't entirely human/hylian? What if there's a little bit of monster in his ancestry? Maybe a Grandparent or Great-Grandparent? And he's literally feeling the effects of the Blood Moon, just to a lesser degree than the monsters do.
Yes but now you have to wonder how the hell a monster ended up in his ancestry in the first place and I don’t think that’s a question many people would want to see the answer too 😂 Edit: well ok I guess somebody already found the possible answer in another comment, and it’s beyond f-ed up 😂
The speedrunner is a separate being, it wears the face of the hero, those who have witnessed him describe him as strange but dangerous. Using bombs to somehow become faster or levitate. Capturing bugs only to release them and capture them again, turning around and playing his blade as an instrument. None have seen him for long, as he tends to disappear after going through doors, following him only reveals he is no longer there. Some have called him a ghost, others a trickster god, or even a folktale. One thing is for certain, his name is apt, for when he arrives, he is gone just as fast.
One character that creeped me out like crazy when I first encountered him: Jovani in Twilight Princess. I was twelve at the time, had just gotten the game and played for hours and hours. It was way past midnight and it was storming outside when I finally came across Jovani in the game. The sounds that creepy, golden statue made, the flashing gemstone-eyes, combined with the sleep-deprivation and the storm had me freak out, I shut the game off without saving and re-did the segment a week later xD
I totally agree with you. I was around ten the first time I saw Jovani, and although I never got to Castletown in my own playthrough, I used to watch a lot of gameplay of TP. Every time whoever I was watching would get to Jovani, I would skip ahead. The sounds he made, his creepy frowning expression and his movements later on just really bothered me. There are plenty of weird and unsettling Zelda characters out there, but for some reason, that guy just really freaked me out. At least he becomes more easy to look at once you free him.
The scene with Pamela and her father after you play the song of healing is always so touching in a darker themed game like Majora's Mask. A touch of light in the darkness of the world.
but they even still leave it off with sadness and a heavy heart with the what have i been doing this whole time and she respond with nothing dad...nothing , showing how fast she had to mature past her age and what she had to endure. its such great dialogue and atmosphere that they can't seem to rival today.
Dang that Guardsman in the Guardhouse really did get what he wanted when ganondorf destroyed Castle Town and became the poe collector and I bet when he was guardsman he was secretly working for ganondorf and promised him more ghosts once he took over!
The poe collector is clearly the Hylian guard. He even continues to carry the same spear he had in the past, albeit with the top and bottom broken off. He even kept some of the pots in the same areas, and probably remarks on Link's appearance due to the fact that they had originally met when Link was a young boy and the guard had recognized the fairylike features.
These videos are incredible, you do a great job setting a creepy atmosphere and do tons of research that show how truly passionate you are about these games
For me personally, I think the creepiest characters are the ghost soldiers from TP. I have Phasmophobia and didn't do to well with them. Even though they're harmless and actually act as guides to help Link I was still uncomfortable and creeped out by them. Their looks, the mystery to their deaths, all add up to make them super scary.
@@dankaroos They're chill. They don't bother me because they're just opaque versions of the original soldier models. What gets me in the TP version is their faces, and actions. Not to mention their slight moans of anguish. Ghosts overall don't scare me, but if a game crafts one just the right way I'm likely to just turn off the game.
I still think that Nintendo might be hinting that Hino is part monster, himself. If you're a fan of the Pokémon series, you may remember that, in Pokémon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum, (in the original Japanese only) stories tell of a time when some Pokémon would marry people (Sinnoh Folk Story 3). Maybe they're implying that, in Hyrule, the same may exist between the races of Hyrule (or just Hylians?) & monsters. Maybe the monsters are actually part of the natural world, only they've been corrupted by Demise/Ganon for so long that they've fallen too far from the goddess' favor. …Also, remember Moe, the Moblin from Wind Waker?
Pokémon and monsters aren't the same, you know... I could be friend with a Serperior, because pokémon while being animals, they also understand, but monsters...are monsters
imagine if Hino was some sort of werecreature of sorts, like he's not how we perceive were creatures, he's got physicality of man but the spirit and possibly ""stats"" of a monster, maybe having some sort of small malice in his bloodline that hasn't been able to activate in his family due to the sealing of ganon, then over the passed 100 years, his family goes a little crazy, but due to the weakened amount of it, it does nothing but drive him mad hell, I could imagine the first person being infected become some warped were bokoblin or something
yea the part that gets me is when the father says what have i been doing this whole time and she goes nothing dad nothing..so chilling such a bittersweet ending and great part of the game.
The Poe Collector and the Moon Children have always been some of my all time favorite fictional characters. Thanks Zeltik for your videos, I'm truly experiencing a whole new dimension to one of my most cherished childhood memories. I still have most Zelda games and old consoles in my house, all still working, and I cherish them just as much as the memories.
Like others pointed out... Here, now, after nearly 3 years I own botw, that I find out that the blood moon guy goes coo coo crazy during one of such events... botw really is something special.
Man, I never knew what the moon kids said, or that they had the Salesman face. That just adds all new layers of creep to what it all means. I do love how open ended it can all be though, digging through the mysteries and theories is fun.
I think the field with the lone tree is a dreamscape or illusion made the powers of the mask... The "safe space" if you will. Where nothing bad is happening; there's no pain, sadness, or end of the world. It's purgatory. By giving away your masks, you are fulfilling the happy mask saleman's wishes in a way, while accepting these masks are not your true self; they ask each time who are you, really? Link has to peel back more layers until he finds his true self, to reach the foundation; pretending to be anyone else will not do. Fierce Deity is the strongest because that's what link connects to the most. This is who he is at his core; kokiri raised, with a big heart and love of community and family, a born warrior with strength and skills to match. The fierce deity is an amalgamation of the three races he first encountered as a child and "adult" that made him into who he is. That's why the game is designed so you cannot give those masks away. nor do the children want them. They are an integral part of Link's identity. Also the fierce deity has red face paint...kinda like a certain barbarian set in botw. Eh? EH? HMMMM. Shouldn't be hard to realize the minish, kokiri, the sky people, the ancient people the water dragon from skyward sword speaks of, the koroks, zonai, possibly twili (though it's more likely to be the banished sheikah), usually seem to belong to the same general group throughout hyrule's history. Out of the primary races of hyrule, there's usually one that goes under a different name in every game. Illusions, tests of courage - looking at you, oot forest temple, verrry sus - the sheikah were never far though and often do the same.
I am super shocked that you didn’t pick anyone from Twilight Princess. The scene towards the middle with all the creepy laughing Ilia’s dropping from the air is the stuff of nightmares. And Zant’s nasty mouth is creepy too.
Despite the creepiness of what happened to Pamela’s father, seeing the 2 of them embrace was easily one of the most satisfying and wholesome moments of the Legend of Zelda.
I had always seen the poe collector’s ‘eye’ as a big nose sticking out of hood of the character’s clothing. It just seemed properly shaded and shaped that way
When I was playing BOTW for the first time, I believed there was a quest to do with Hino. So I waited for the blood moon to talk to him, and then I saw him running and saying things about blood and red. My only reaction was: "Well... that's weird." I forgot him, but now that I watched this video, I don't know if I will play the game again😂
I dont know how you still find things I hadn't heard of before. Even playing wind waker all the time as a kid, I never really thought about the white one very much
Wow, that opening had me thinking something was wrong with my computer, internet, or RUclips cause I was watching on Fullscreen. 0:47 Glad you're avoiding cliches.
I always thought the Poe Collector just had a big red nose, not even once did I think of it as an eye until Zeltik mentioned it XD (it's still hard for me to think of it as an eye after seeing it as a nose since I was a kid, hahaha)
I love when Zelda gets creepy. You don't think it does because it's so light, but then you get deeper and deeper the creepy gets better and better. I love when it gets really really creepy, those are usually the best parts in the whole game.
If you read the name Hino backwards you would get Onih which might be a reference to an Oni. Is that why he‘s obsessed with the moon and the blood moon in general?
I always thought the Moon Children were meant to both parallel how the Skull Kid felt when the Giants left (them having fun somewhere else, leaving him all alone), and give a subtle origin story of how Majora's Mask became the way it is (becoming malevolent when the mask worshippers disappeared). The trials of the Moon Children and gradually giving up all your masks could be seen as subtly telling the player how the mask worshippers slowly faded out, until Majora's Mask was the only thing left.
The ider that the guard becomes the Poe collector makes the most sense. Especially if you consider what he says at night. I could say perhaps he's wearing a mask, but I think it more likely he was effected by Ganandorf's magic, perhaps cursed during an encounter in which he'd praised the dark lord.
I always thought the poe collector was indeed the Hylian guard from seven years prior, and his comments about reading thoughts and the single glowing eyes always meant to me that he somehow got the mask of truth, even if it doesn't have that effect in OoT.
I would definitely say the happy mask salesman is the creepiest, especially because he is separate from the consequences of majoras mask. Monitoring you, taking the relic back and disappearing in thin air
The Poe collector is a drunkard, look at all the empty wine bottles near his bed and it is not a single glowing red eye, it's his red nose because he is drunk. You don't know some anime? The japanese depict drunkards often with a red nose
Chronic alcoholism bloat and rupture veins and capillaries of the nose, making it more reddish/purple and seemingly bigger. This was a common way to show drunk people in older cartoons/comics, transported to Japanese iconography.
@@1r0zz see, that was what I meant, I wasn't joking around. In my head canon it is the same soldier found 7 years earlier. He must've surrendered to Ganondorf and survived and is now plagued by guilt and is heavily drinking because of that. The hints from the soldier himself about his interest in ghosts are evident enough for me.
I just want to say one thing bro... Hats off to your research!! Bringing those things to our eyes which we did not or could not. Keep up the good work, love your videos!!!!!!!
Anyone else remember the song played when link finds all the frogs in majors mask with the goro mask? I have it stuck in my head ever since I found them all.
the poe collector might have worn a shiekah mask because of the lone glowing eye covering almost all of his face.also, he said that he can read minds, which could also be referenced to the ability of the shiekah mask to read what the shiekah rocks are saying

11:01 -There funny thing is that this seems reversed in the Minish Cap. David Jr. is very similar (except not being a sailor) and dresses like Tingle/how Bros despite not being related. Unlike in Wind Waker though, we don't know really any of his origins and he isn't forced by Tingle to join them. He simply chooses to dress like them and act as a fourth member of their group. Tingles brothers even comment how uneasy it makes them that he does this and hint that they are not as comfortable with him tagging along as he is. Again, he seems to know them somehow but it's never disclosed for how long or that came to be. He clearly shares interest in there goal to transform into fairies through the unification of kin stones and shares the ability to know how many remain. The fact they are aware there is a tie between the stones and fairy folk (the Minish/Picori) also sets them apart. Interestingly, their costumes also make them r semble Minish much more than any other fairy folk in Zelda aside from potentially the Kokiri. There also seems to be an establishing link between the Tingle Brothers and Kilton/Koltin in BotW and TotK. They are almost inverses of their fairy counterparts. They are still brothers who are obsessed with transitioning their species to something more magical. The tingles seem more focused on selling maps and having others do their work for them where the Kils seems less sketchy beyond surface levels. They are consistent with their prices, run legit shops and have humble manners. The tingles are bombastic and forceful, only really focused on their perspective and tend to recruit link in a manipulative way. This is off considering they are obsessed with becoming the good magical creatures, fairy's but the Kils are interested in monsters which tend to have association with black magic. It's the opposite of what you would expect.
Given where the sheet is, where the red light shows up, and my upbringing i always thought the poe collector was just smoking under the sheet, and all you can see is the cherry lit under his hood

Now I hate Tingle even more.
i don't think he sealed himself evident by the daughters mature dialogue and actions, the mummy teddy bear and the dad having no recollection and being out of control. What makes that scene so powerful is Pamela having to mature so fast and her dialogue while they hug, gets me every time as even in a moment of what should be happiness her response reminds you of the sad reality of what she had to do to keep him and herself alive.
After 3 years I've come with this for you about Poe Collector: perhaps his red glowing eye is an indication of the way Bongo Bongo was created. Accumulated hate, one single glaring eye and a connection with Royal Family/Sheika dark origins.
There are several creepy enemies in both Shadow and Spirit Temples, such as ReDeads, Gibdoes, Floor Masters (Ganondorf's hands), Wallmaster (another Ganondorf's hand), Bongo Bongo, the boss of Shadow Temple, and Twinrova, the boss of Spirit Temple.
I will ALWAYS hate Re-Deads. Those buggers scared the hell out of me when I played Wind Waker. I died like 4 times due to panic-backing into a corner or getting chomped on by a Re-Dead until I died. God I hate Toon Link’s screaming when he dies due to falling.

Almost like a game master. Definitely a very interesting way of creating termina.
I stumbled across Hino’s … episode once. It legitimately freaked me out.
The Poe Collector's eye is a lot like Bongo Bongo's...
oh shit
I always thought it looked like a way too long neck missing it's severed head
Siblings probably
I always thought he looked like Wizzro
!
Something that always made the Poe Collector even creepier to me personally was the fact that I never saw that red spot beneath his hood as a "glowing eye." Instead, to me it always looked like the bloody end of a neck stump, as if he was a headless corpse that somehow kept living.
Same ! Don't know why but that's the first thing that came to my mind when I encounter him, and his Majora's Mask twin
My personal headcanon for the poe collector has always been that he is missing his head and what we are seeing is just the wound left by it. I dont know why but i cannot unsee that ever since i was a kid.
Sort of like Bongo-Bongo, where the only thing that is seen of him( besides his hands) is his decapitated neck
Your headcanon is creepier
I always thought it was his nose.
I always thought he had a mask and/or lens of truth, and that was causing it.
😰
Here's an idea, what if Hino isn't entirely human/hylian? What if there's a little bit of monster in his ancestry? Maybe a Grandparent or Great-Grandparent? And he's literally feeling the effects of the Blood Moon, just to a lesser degree than the monsters do.
Yes but now you have to wonder how the hell a monster ended up in his ancestry in the first place and I don’t think that’s a question many people would want to see the answer too 😂
Edit: well ok I guess somebody already found the possible answer in another comment, and it’s beyond f-ed up 😂
So.... somebody raped a monster... hot.
@@BreatheForAMoment Monsters are usually stronger. It would be the other way around.
remember that one girl who was in love with a moblin in windwaker 😳
So. Am I the only one who remembers that monster in Skyward Sword who wanted to become human? Yeah that.
Beadle is still my fav dark character. The fact that he says he's going to hire assassins to kill link for not trading a beetle still unnerves me
Once, he said that to me at a stable (I forgot which one) and almost as soon as I left, I got attacked by a yiga. Beadle's a bit SUS...
Bugblight Ganon
Maybe you should just give him the beetles then.
Actually the creepiest charater is booger kid from Wind Waker. Always chasing you trying to smear his booger all over you. Truly terrifying
Effin hate that kid cuz if he runs into you full throttle with that booger threatens to drip on you!
i hate booger kid
And the most scary caracter of all...
Link him self, swimming at lightning speed, clipping trough walls and barriers
And wrong warping
Ah yes, the speed runner.
Oh, you mean Link, the time traveler? Errr.... when he’s not supposed to travel through time anyway...
@@orangeapples no i mean speedrunner style
The speedrunner is a separate being, it wears the face of the hero, those who have witnessed him describe him as strange but dangerous. Using bombs to somehow become faster or levitate. Capturing bugs only to release them and capture them again, turning around and playing his blade as an instrument.
None have seen him for long, as he tends to disappear after going through doors, following him only reveals he is no longer there.
Some have called him a ghost, others a trickster god, or even a folktale. One thing is for certain, his name is apt, for when he arrives, he is gone just as fast.
AWESOME! 😊 😊 😊 ❤
@@etps4444 Yeah, I wish I could have skipped the guy XD
I'm scarred bro
Omg I never knew Hino tweaked out during the Blood Moon. It’s amazing that I got this game on launch day and I’m STILL learning of new things
I love that Halloween special intro
Me to
I thought my earbuds were glitching out. They're already a little broken, so that made it even more convincing.
@@sageoffire3964 wtf hahaha
My guess is Pamela's father was able to make it back to the house before the curse took hold to the extent we see in the game.
Gotta love how almost all of these are from majoras mask, love that game.
These videos are incredible, you do a great job setting a creepy atmosphere and do tons of research that show how truly passionate you are about these games
Aaah the spooky intro is so good! I genuinely do love the dark stuff in Zelda, especially when it’s not obvious :)
The guard also keeps saying he’s “so tired” and the strange cloaked figure is seen sitting on a bed, just found that curious is all
For me personally, I think the creepiest characters are the ghost soldiers from TP.
I have Phasmophobia and didn't do to well with them. Even though they're harmless and actually act as guides to help Link I was still uncomfortable and creeped out by them.
Their looks, the mystery to their deaths, all add up to make them super scary.
You mean the ones in the hidden graveyard?
Frick, those things are creepy.
How do you feel about the ghost soldiers in TOTK
@@dankaroos They're chill. They don't bother me because they're just opaque versions of the original soldier models. What gets me in the TP version is their faces, and actions. Not to mention their slight moans of anguish.
Ghosts overall don't scare me, but if a game crafts one just the right way I'm likely to just turn off the game.
I loved this new format that you cut to a black screen and type in the character's names.
I believe it's just for this Halloween episode
Damn that actually makes a lot of sense...
I'm sorry, humans and Pokemon did what?
@@thedragon7584 yeah im confused by that too
Pokémon and monsters aren't the same, you know... I could be friend with a Serperior, because pokémon while being animals, they also understand, but monsters...are monsters

Lol I just came back to watch the vid and forgot I put a comment
yea about 1/90th of them.
EXCELLENT WORK.
I just realized how the Poe collector looks like wizzro from hyrule warriors.
Or, you know, any Poe. Wizzro looks like a Poe.
I love that ‘good boy’ flash on the dog on the hino entry
Very brief but I verified it
imagine if Hino was some sort of werecreature of sorts, like he's not how we perceive were creatures, he's got physicality of man but the spirit and possibly ""stats"" of a monster, maybe having some sort of small malice in his bloodline that hasn't been able to activate in his family due to the sealing of ganon, then over the passed 100 years, his family goes a little crazy, but due to the weakened amount of it, it does nothing but drive him mad
hell, I could imagine the first person being infected become some warped were bokoblin or something
INFECTED BY GANONDORFS MALICE
The story about pamela and her father brings me always near to tears. Nintendo should include or mention somehow these characters in a new Zelda.
yea the part that gets me is when the father says what have i been doing this whole time and she goes nothing dad nothing..so chilling such a bittersweet ending and great part of the game.
Gave me a fright with that intro, thought my phone was breaking 😅
Ah, shame on you! That means you didn't watch his previous Halloween videos!
@@coitze8704 shhh, I'm a busy guy 😅👍

Like others pointed out...
Here, now, after nearly 3 years I own botw, that I find out that the blood moon guy goes coo coo crazy during one of such events...
botw really is something special.
After Pamela hugs her healed Father, damn, that makes me cry.
Zeltik always posting quality content. This channel definitely deserves many more subscribers.
I never knew the blood moon guy acted that way! Wow all this years and we still learn and discover new things in BotW!
The well and Pamela reminds of the stories of children entering the lost woods without a fairy...
How do you have a phone if your literally in a forest with no connection to the outside?
I've always found the moon so interesting, and what it could mean about the masked salesman or Majora is so captivating.
As they are many happy and wholesome moments, there are are many sad and creepy times...
I like how he forgot that Pamela and her father are Terminian and not Hylian.
Wait what
Hylian is a race so it could still apply to them. The difference is they live in Termina instead of Hyrule.
Hylians is a species like Zora or Goron, isn't it?
Ever heard of the term Terminan Hylian?
@@NoxWyattHylian is the race, Hyrulean is their nationality, at least that's how Hyrule Warriors uses the terms.
Even playing wind waker all the time as a kid, I never really thought about the white one very much
This is the first time I noticed how the Poe Collector may have been wearing torn up pieces of Zelda's dresses.
This.
Same!! lol
I love when Zelda gets creepy. You don't think it does because it's so light, but then you get deeper and deeper the creepy gets better and better. I love when it gets really really creepy, those are usually the best parts in the whole game.
Poe collector: if I looked like you, I could run a different kind of business.
Me: prostitution jokes.
If you read the name Hino backwards you would get Onih which might be a reference to an Oni. Is that why he‘s obsessed with the moon and the blood moon in general?
The Poe Collector holds a stick just like the Graveyard Kid does, his movements are similar, also the guard was taller it seems.
The soldier also holds a a stick, albeit a pointy one, and the gaurd seems taller because the poe collector is hunched over
Funny. I've seen plenty of Hino but never bothered to see his reaction to a blood moon-chilling.
I always thought the Moon Children were meant to both parallel how the Skull Kid felt when the Giants left (them having fun somewhere else, leaving him all alone), and give a subtle origin story of how Majora's Mask became the way it is (becoming malevolent when the mask worshippers disappeared). The trials of the Moon Children and gradually giving up all your masks could be seen as subtly telling the player how the mask worshippers slowly faded out, until Majora's Mask was the only thing left.
thats an interesting theory
THE GLITCHING INTRO LITERALLY ALMOST GAVE ME A HEART ATTACK, I KID YOU NOT, I JUMPED SO HARD, IT LEGITIMATLY SCARED ME
Whoa i Just wanted to write how much i Love youre Intro and then this scary glitched Version came
That was cool
In many of these games individuals that become interested in monsters/spirits become sinister or disturbed. Maybe it's from consuming dark spirits
The use of the Resident Evil typewriter was a nice touch for each transition.
The Poe collector is a drunkard, look at all the empty wine bottles near his bed and it is not a single glowing red eye, it's his red nose because he is drunk. You don't know some anime? The japanese depict drunkards often with a red nose
LOL XD This comment deserves more likes. You gave me a chuckle 😂😂😂
Yeah no it's a eye, if this is a joke it's not very good either
15:45 I always thought that the poe collector was headless and that the red light under his hood was his severed neck, as in a visible bloody stump
I didn’t even KNOW about the BOTW character’s outburst during the blood moon!
the poe collector might have worn a shiekah mask because of the lone glowing eye covering almost all of his face.also, he said that he can read minds, which could also be referenced to the ability of the shiekah mask to read what the shiekah rocks are saying
Majora calls you "the bad guy" in the cutscene b4 the last battle
Majora thinks death/murder is a heroric aim
Majora considers the end of all suffering to be a blessing (death)

I like how you called the doggo a good boy while it was laying on the ground in the blood moon, it is indeed a good boy/girl

2:38 Well, I don't know how I missed that. Definitely creepy. Why is it just him though?
Pamel'as father definitely freaked me out for a second or two.
7:42- I think he possibly sealed himself, fearing he might be a danger to his daughter.
10:26 I didn't remember this. Great.
Hino was absolutely vital for me, thanks to that blood moon shrine quest.
The intro switch for halloween was BAD ASS!! Love this video! Great job!!
A good list some really surprising characters on it. Happy Halloween, Hallow's End, and Nightmare Night to all.
Good night out there whatever you are.
