    Love the videos Ryan, I've been following your journey for a while. I would love to see more videos on this topic! I'm in the Atlanta area and have been considering ATP as well as other schools. Right now I'm trying to narrow down the best fit for me. Thanks for giving your input!

    I’m at ATP Jax right now, about to finish up my commercial (a little more than halfway through) and for people wondering about ATP, I’d say the structure and resources are amazing, but sometimes your best resource is other students. Depends on the instructor, as some are more helpful than others (don’t be afraid to ask for a different instructor!), but I’ve found that the bottom line is you get out what you put in. Expect delays, study hard and your success is up to you.

      Thanks so much for the info! Is it true that they have connections to the major airlines and help you make it to the major airlines with the cadet program?

    • @bobsaget6252
      @bobsaget6252 4 года назад +1

      Rad Brad FPV they have several cadet programs for regional airlines, which is the stepping stone to the majors. This is where the tuition reimbursement comes into play. However, they did just announce a partnership with Frontier (a lower-tier major) where you skip the regional and fly the Airbus 320 with Frontier. There are a few stipulations, though, like no tuition reimbursement while you’re instructing, and you have to pay for your type rating, which basically equates to borrowing more money. Of course, the pay is much better than the regionals, but there are pros and cons to either route and I’m trying to do more research on it to decide what I want to do

    There's a happy medium as with the everything else in life that aviation training must be in. ATP has changed from how it was in 2016, as illustrated in your video. The amount of actual instruction being offered by the company has changed. The company does have a lot of fine print that you should look over with some one that knows how to go over a contract, is defiantly recommended. Ryan great video man, and very well put, motivation is such a driving factor for the majority of the individuals looking into ATP and you did a great job explaining how there's a need to keep your motivation during the program.

    I’m currently at ATP and from all the other people I’ve talked to that come in with a Private Pilot credit and get to ATP they all tell me they wish they would have started at ATP just because they feel like they are already behind. I started ATP zero time and my instructor is a new CFI, I’m actually his first student but all 3 of my roommates are commercial rated and in their CFI course and are amazed at how much I already know. Credit going to my CFI for his awesome grounds! I just like the fact that it is so structured and you have an awesome intuitive schedule that lets you know what to study, what plane you’ll be flying, and just everything in general. It’s a BIG financial commitment but just like anything in life if it was easy everyone would do it.

    I am a current ATP student and they are horribly managed. There are pluses and negatives to the school at first. I don't know that I wouldn't recommend ATP but I would take a look at say American Fliers. ATP has nice new G1000 172s in a lot of locations (minus California for example) and that is nice. The flight instructors are generally unmotivated because they only get paid to fly, have students pass check rides and sim. Don't expect much in the way of debriefs or extra grounds. You will probably sit around for checkrides for a month or so if you're not in TX, AZ, CA, FL, etc. The school does know how to get you the flight times needed for ratings though so if you need structure then its not a horrible idea.
    TLDR: ATP isn't amazing. The instructors want out as bad as you do and it shows. They are not flexible and will threaten to kick you out and take your money if you don't do exactly what they want.

    I sure understand your comments and agree; Given anyone with your personality who wants to do it I would send the to ATP outright upfront;
    Myself I would have to go straight into Commercial Regional Cargo and am not going to make it now at 68 years old - had 2 CFI directed incidents which make me leery of sending anyone to such large schools as they have no way to perfect their CFI Hiring Pool at Part 141 anymore than at Part 61 Schools
    If one is set on ATPL and has the backing to do it without straining fiduciary then good but I see an adverse situation telling someone to go Part 141 when they may washout; I realize there are retake protocols but currently I discussed this with my FBO Operator and decided on pleasure flying only

    I have watched/read many reviews about ATP and they all basically came to the same conclusion. But even with everybody saying to go to a Part 61 school, my concern is how long will it take to go zero to hero? Also, financially, I’d be coming in with very little money. Is it better just to eat the ATP loan so I can fly ASAP and start paying it back? or work part-time and go to a Part 61? If I go part-time I’m worried it will take forever to get into an airline.

I have recently been researching ATP and really like the ability to be connected to the regional airlines and work into a job while also having a guaranteed flight instructor job. That being said, I am 25 and have my finances pretty settled. I plan to pay for my education with cash. So I could potentially buy a plane as you suggest. What are job prospects like after finishing up commercial ratings with a private instructor? Is it relatively easy to find work as a flight instructor? Also I am pretty personable and networking is not something I struggle with so if I was put in the right circles I would have no issue gaining others trust and friendship. ATP has evals: solo for pattern, solo XC which I’ve heard has the highest failure rates. One student said they only get 6 hours of preparation prior to the eval. Another said he went without flying for 30 days prior to the eval. All these in-discrepancies were due to plane availability and priority due to the high volume of students.
    I guess when the industry is needing pilots then the schools can go up on tuition and overfill the schools without rendering quality instruction.
    My personal recommendation is for students go to part 61 school to get PPL prior to enrolling in ATP. Once a student has the PPL there are no evals other than check-rides.
    BTW you rates for instruction to students are cheap. The part 61 school down the road from my house pays their contract instructors $51/hour which is much better rate than what ATP pays.

    I’ll put it this way, college route 59k ATP 80k , there are advantages and disadvantages to both. This will get lengthy so if you’re considering flight schools. Consider reading. ATP is 9 months of total hardwork to get you your commercial. It’s also the quickest way to get you into 80k in debt. ATP is not cheap nor effective vs college. College
    Gives you a degree in aviation. That is your profession, not that atp doesn’t make you a professional either. But when it comes down to it you’re better off with a degree than just going the paid route. Here’s why, there’s a pilot shortage in the US of EXPERIENCED pilots. Not just a pilot with his commercial because theirs enough of those. So here’s my take , college gives you a better job security from what I’ve seen over the few years. ATP does have many airline partnerships but so do universities. I’d rather go to a 4 year institution knowing i have a job over questioning if i have a job when i graduate atp. I’ve considered both heavily and I’ve decided to go to eastern Michigan University aviation school. Hope this Enlightens you on your choice. Either are good choices. But remember, education is key.

    • @Jetfuture737
      @Jetfuture737 4 года назад

      I highly recommend getting a 4-year aviation degree. I always ask my FOs where they went to college. I would guess at least 70% of the civilian-track pilots have stated they went to an aviation university. However, I would qualify by saying “if you can afford it.” If you are taking out $82,000 in loans for ATP Flight School or $120,000 in loans to go to Embry-Riddle, you can’t afford it! Those loans add a LOT of risk. If all you can afford is an in-state college with an English degree and a part 61 mom and pop, then do that. Trust me, don’t take on the large debt.

      For major airlines, the legally obligated retirement age is 65. I don't know about smaller corporate jet companies but I believe that's industry wide. Look it up but the harsh reality is that spending $65-$80k+ on flight education is a ton of money to invest for what might end up being a six or seven year career at best assuming you start immediately at 55 years old.

      It is, the main benefit with ATP is access to funding and national footprint. It isn’t easy to find funding for flight education or a company with relative consistency across the country. High interest rates, jacked up overall rental rates for students plus low flight instructor pay make this place outrageously expensive in the grand scheme.
      Prospective students who can pay straight up to ATP are 100% better off elsewhere. Those who want financing but with access to a decent paying job are better off roughing it out for a few years to pay for school outright so they can choose a place to teach themself rather than laden themselves with obscene debt and poor instructor pay.
