  • Here's your guided tour through the streets of the Central District of Hong Kong where you can find a lot more than high-street retail. Vintage, pre-owned, independent brands, straps and more can be found within a few hundred meters from each other.
    This is strictly about Central, not going further because of course there are hundreds of shops all over town as you will have seen in my previous videos.
    I hope you'll enjoy this quick tour and that it will be useful next time you visit the city.

    5:24 trop belle cette montre bleue. Hong Kong le paradis des montres. J’ai deja été à Melbourne Plaza, il a ce côté retro des années 80. Votre vidéo me rappelle de bons souvenirs ❤

    A very enjoyable tour thank you! Am enjoying your videos.
    I will be visiting HK soon and wondering where I might get a discount on Seiko or maybe even GS.
    If you have any advice I will be grateful to hear it.

    By museum I assume you mean that Rolex store in the IFC Mall never has watches for sale. If so, that’s 1 expensive museum. And it’s really a private club - the longtime customers who get every watch that the store gets come in when there watch arrives, sit down, have a drink, chat, get their bracelet size, say ‘thank you’, and go home.

      They sure do and they get discounts too. A VIP (politician) was privately boasting he got two Le Mans from the same AD at 20% off

    Would you buy in Hongkong to flip for profit in other market (what market best then?) and what would you look out for when buying?

      Richemont has started doing the same with their brands.
      Ex if you want that IWC pilot from their boutique, the models on display are "to be ordered with 30% deposit"... they are display only and not for delivery. The same applies to JLC as well.
      Having things to purchase in store immediately seems to be the counter trend in the last 2 years post covid travel restrictions.

    The Chinese don't tend to wear second-hand or used watches due to Feng Shui. They believe that wearing a used watch or staying in a used house will inherit the previous owners' misfortune. That's probably why they rip everything out when they move in an old house, although I don't know how vingage watch dealers survive.

    • @sn00ze88
      @sn00ze88 11 месяцев назад

      Which Chinese? Many Chinese has outgrown that superstitions. In places like Singapore and Hong Kong, even cemeteries are being dug up to make space for apartments. Money is the true religion now.

      Seems like you're the one who is stuck in the past. There is a reason why Hong Kong (a city of 7 million) is the second largest watch market in the world and China is the fastest growing pre-owned watch market in the world.

    Hi Uptick. Great video. I am visiting HK next week, I am planning to buy the Tudor Black Bay Burgundy. Which store or AD in HK do you think would provide the best discount.. I'm currently stuck between CTF and Yes watch Co.

    • @UptickWatchReviews
      @UptickWatchReviews  4 месяца назад

      So far a bit of purchase history has just gotten me 5% off on Tudor as it's not (yet) a discountable brand but things might turn. I guess you gotta take a chance at each AD, not sure which is best tbh. Note that you could get a two-tone Daytona at Emperor at retail if you tag onto it a HKD 20k-30k purchase or another brand. So something to consider.

    Lol, my city (province, actually) has one jewelry store that sells watches, and they only sell Rado, Longines, Hamilton, and Seiko. I have to drive 5 hours to see any other brands.

    • @UptickWatchReviews
      @UptickWatchReviews  11 месяцев назад

      This is about Central. In the video you can see the only boutique of Central.

      I remember the gigantic IWC ads on the wall as one exited the Kowloon Station - must have been 25-30 meters high. Really made me want to get an IWC - but they’re prices are silly. The Ingenieur at $8k USD would be a huge success and bring people to the brand.

    Over 20 years ago, I would have bought one of these brand name watches in HK but now with the proliferation of fake watches from the mainland... Wouldn't bother with it now...
