@@TheVocalyst As a former classical singer myself, singers like Bruce Dickinson as well as Geoff Tate (Of the band Queensryche), and Roy Khan (of the bands Kamelot, and Conception) totally got me into this kind of music. The 1982 BEAST over HAMMERSMITH performance of HALLOWED BE THY NAME is by far the best example of Bruce Dickinson's vocal range, diction, and breath control

Bruce Dickinson's diction is hilariously good. In the realm of metal this is considered classical music, this is the foundation. Everybody should listen to this once in a lifetime at least.
I was 10 years old when this was recorded, I was 19 when I first saw them live myself, and I will be seeing them next year (for about the 6th time) just a few days before I turn 50. The quality of their music and performances is legendary, and the sheer longevity at which they have maintained the consistent quality is incomprehensible and awe-inspiring.
I've been a fan of Iron Maiden since the )ate 70's. I've seen them twice. 1983 and 2017. I met Bruce Dickinson, Steve Harris and Dave Murry backstage in 83. Bruce has one of the best voices in the business. His range and stamina is second to none. By the way your reaction to this is priceless. That smile of yours is fantastic.
I just saw them on their last tour with my two sons. He still belts out the lyrics like he did 30 years ago. So amazing to have a band that I grew up with loving and now my boys can enjoy not only their recorded sessions but they're live versions as well.
I am LOVING watching you experience these bands that I grew up listening to and playing along with (I'm a guitarist of 45 years now...), and I played in many bands doing covers of Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Metallica, Helloween, etc. I realize this video is now a year old, but I just saw it today. If it hasn't been mentioned in the comments previously, Bruce Dickinson has HUGE energy and really expends himself 1000% in every show. I don't know if he is still active in it, but at one point in his life he was a world-class fencer, and he also flies the band around in their own 747. Yes, he's the pilot. It's so cool watching your facial expressions as you are experiencing these songs for the first time, and I know what's coming next - even if you don't. The joy is obvious! Love your channel... new subscriber, and I'm going to keep on watching!! ~Jason
Back in my day, we called Bruce Dickinson "The Human Air Raid Siren". I suggest just once you listen to the studio version of Hallowed to really feel the full impact of his voice. 2 Minutes to Midnight is a good one, too. I have to say, I loved watching your reaction to the band (not just Bruce). To someone who has been listening for decades now, it's always sweet to see a "newcomer's" reaction. Thanks for making my day :D
Saw this and had to watch immediately. Taking my 10 year old stepson to see them next week. Bruce can’t hit some of those notes anymore, but it doesn’t matter, he’s garnered so much goodwill through the years (he beat throat cancer about 6, 7 years ago), and still gives 100%. Nobody beats them live. Great review!!
just saw them last Sunday, awesome show, with a ton of pyrotechnics. I'd recommend bringing some foam earplugs, and seat them just enough that it doesn't distort/muffle the sound, but lessens impact. People around me were complaining afterwards about how bad their ears were ringing, mine were fine. I was about 100 feet from the stage, on the floor.
@@spacewizard69 probably depends on a ton of factors if it'd hurt your ears or not, but regardless, good to have them in your pocket just in case, that way if you find it is too much, have an option to lessen the impact against your ears and still fully enjoy the show.
Bruce Dickinson is one of the pioneers of Operatic Vocal Style. He is undoubtedly the best and my childhood hero. Please check out more of his songs from Iron Maiden. I loved your reaction!
I’ve seen Maiden live and Bruce does this at peak energy for 2 or 3 hours straight and never falters. Iron Maiden is metal at its finest. I’ve always loved his voice so much but when I was young was forbidden from buying any Iron Maiden albums. Now I’m an adult and UP THE IRONS!!!
Great reaction to an awesome group. I have seen them live 4 times spanning from the mid 80's to the early 90's and there aren't very many singers that can energize the crowd like Bruce Dickenson.
Voice Teacher - I recall the first album I heard from IRON MAIDEN, Piece of Mind. I knew right then I have found my new favorite band. 1982, they opened for the Scorpions, and 5 months later they were headlining. I watched both. Been a fan since 1982!!! The Singer - Bruce Dickinson is by far the best singer the band has ever had. Diano and Bailey pulled their stint in the band and now we once again have the Singer, back out front. God Bless Him, the man has been thru Cancer, bad hair days and prolly something I am not mentioning. As you are a New Fan, don't shame yourself for beginning to look for Vynil records or even old 45s'. They're out there but you got to look for em. Dear Voice Teacher - Your facial expressions were not unexpected. Showing, of course, you have a beautiful smile and Bruce Dickinson deserves every smile he gets!!! Please keep reviewing IRON MAIDEN and telling your fascination with the band and of course the singer, Oh yeah, lets not forget your smile!!! CHEERS , Woody
I was at that concert; what an incredible experience! I remember being absolutely gobsmacked by their performance. I was really into Twisted Sister before this concert, (TS opened for Maiden), but was a diehard Maiden fan immediately after the first song, (Aces High) Looking forward to hearing more vocal reactions from you!!! Thank you!!!
Hi Bethany, I love your reactions. You have the most amazing, happy smile!!😁 This was recorded at Long Beach Arena in 1985 and, if I'm not mistaken, this was the fourth night of a 4 night sold out show at this location so by this time his voice was pretty tired but he was still able to pull it off pretty well. He is a vocal icon in the Metal world!!
@@surfdigby Yes it was. I have the original VHS video and Vynal record of "Live After Death" that was released in 1985...lol I bought it as soon as it came out.😁
Definitely one of the all time greatest metal vocalists. Michael Kiske (Helloween), Geoff Tate (Queensryche), Hansi Kürsch (Blind Guardian) are some of the others in similar styles that you should also check out
Dio not to forget. Ronnie James Dio is number one. Dickinson called Dio as one of the singers who will always be beyond him. ruclips.net/video/rVXy1OhaERY/видео.html
Bruce Dickinson is so multi-talented, having written books, prose and poems that reflect and represent his artistic genius. Iron Maiden are the epitome oh Heavy Metal music, so orchestral and symphonic in sound and their songs and lyrics (thinking about Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner) are timeless works of art. Loved this ❤❤❤
This is THE BEST VERSION of all!!!! the other reaction channels always react to the 1982 version and others most current!! This is The Version...Iron Maiden 1985 at the TOP of his career... THANX!
This particular recording is all the more impressive if you watch the entire show, and see Bruce blowing his voice out completely trying to get the high notes in the first song they play... Aces High. It's the most heroic piece of singing I've ever seen. To still be able to do this song justice a good hour later is beyond incredible.
4 consecutive nights at Long Beach Arena during a 192 date tour, a couple of those (I believe New York and one of other) were cancelled due to Bruce being ill, and his still pretty raw style of singing, it’s hardly a surprise his voice was on the edge. Compare his first run in the band (81-93) with his current run (99-present), and you can tell his style has matured over the years. His performances are just as big as they ever were, but that rawness is gone.
Coffeematt, All 4 nights front row with an eddy mask.. nights 1and 2 were the best. Security came in nights 3and 4 for the camera crew. Still great but nights 1 and 2 were mosh pit mental energy stick on the bar ring your short out after the show good times
Aces High is not a vocal melody Bruce would have ever written to sing, the song sucks for them because it’s really un-singable live for Bruce with Maiden. It’s all Steve Harris to blame here. Almost the worst song to have to open a set with. Dickinson can simply not sing the A4-B4-C5-D5 part of the verse with any consistency… and compared to the beautiful album version the chorus simply does not translate live, it falls flat. I’d also like to point out that Bruce has no trouble hitting the D5 note on a song like The Talisman. He can swoop up to the note in that context. Aces High is simply an unsingable melody that Steve forced Bruce to sing. Well, OK it wasn’t terrible on the Flight 666 movie version… but it’s a ball buster vocally.
Just saw them AGAIN last on 10/21, another amazing Maiden show. You really should go see them on the next tour. It’s an event and experience. Not just a concert.
Welcome to Bruce " Air raid siren" Dickinson and Iron Maiden. UP THE IRONS. Grew up to this band so many great songs and they are better live than studio.
Bruce Dickinson’s voice is exactly what heavy metal music is designed to be. It soars above the core rhythm and screeching electric guitars. Still amazing even now.
I just saw Maiden on September 15th, at the BOK center in Tulsa and I can tell you they are metal Gods. The best concert I've ever been to. My 23 year old daughter came with me and she was blown away too. The whole band had energy and performance that would put todays young bands to shame. Bruce was incredible.
Bruce Dickinson really impresses people when they listen to him. He can be a story teller, sing higher, sing lower, belt like a beast and then lightly lull people with beautiful singing/vibrato - all while running around stage like a 5 year old! 4 decades later - yup - still doing it. Fear of the Dark live is a soul filling experience. The Trooper gets the blood pumping. You will find that Iron Maiden does a lot of songs about historical people/events. Try the song Paschendale live for a great story of a WWI battle. Iron Maiden always impresses with their composition, meter changes and (haunting) guitar work with a rock solid bass/drum foundation.
You picked the best version. The Live After Death album is one of the greatest live albums ever recorded. Maiden give you a real show. They're all about the riffs and Bruce is so theatrical.
I've been a Maiden fan since the late 80s... love this song. I just saw them live last week, and I was not disappointed. They put on such a great show, and he hit all the notes, and the band was amazing! One of the best live bands out there I think...🤘🤘
“Ok, I got a little lost in that.” It’s okay, I’ve been listening to Maiden for decades now and I still find myself getting lost in their music. Had the pleasure of seeing Maiden again just a few days ago in Toronto and they are still as energetic and tremendous a live act as they have ever been despite them all being in their 60’s. Iron Maiden is a band that if you ever get the opportunity to see them live, you take it. They are entertaining, the energy is infectious and being surround by thousands of fans all singing along is amazing. In some ways I actually think they sound better live than with all the polish of a studio sound.
I've been listening to Iron Maiden since 1982, at the age of 15. This song is probably Maiden's most popular on RUclips, from the Live After Death Tour. The beast one IMO is the Beast Over Hammersmith 1982 version Iron Maiden is: Bruce Dickinson - Vocals Born: August 7, 1958 (age 63 years) Started with Iron Maiden in 1981, left in 1993 and rejoined in 1999 and present singer Steve Harris - Bassist and Founder Born: March 12, 1956 (age 66 years), Started the band in 1975 and has never left Dave Murray - Guitarist Born: December 23, 1956 (age 65 years), 1976-1977, 1978- present Adrian Smith - Guitarist Born: February 27, 1957 (age 65 years), 1980-1990, 1999-present Janick Gers - Guiarist Born: January 27, 1957 (age 65 years), 1990 - present Nicko McBrain - Drums Born: June 5, 1952 (age 70 years), 1982 - present The next songs I'd recommend are Rime of the Ancient Mainer - LiveFlight666, Fear of the Dark Live Rock in Rio 2001, The Trooper (Live After Death 1985), Iron Maiden -- Phantom of the Opera (Live at the Rainbow 1980 - with first singer Paul DiAnno, The Clansman - Rock In Rio 2001 9/16, Iron Maiden - Dance Of Death (Live At Estadio Nacional, Santiago) also the ones listed below. Highlight of songs I'd recommend are: From Iron Maiden------ Phantom of the Opera - A must for live version Strange World (this one will be totally different Iron Maiden) From Killers ------ Murders in the Rue Morgue (Very loosely influenced by Edgar Allen Poe's short story, a story of a fugitive being sought for murder) ***You have done Genghis Khan (an instrumental - perfect for air drumming) Innocent Exile (continues the theme of Murders in the Rue Morgue of an unjustly accused fugitive) Killers (A journey into the twisted mind of a deranged killer) Prodigal Son(about a repentant man reminiscent of the prodigal son parable found in Luke 15 of the bible) Purgatory(lyrics of song read like a poem) Drifter (focuses on the possibility of new beginnings) From The Number of the Beast------ Invaders (It graphically depicts the violence and horror of a defense against a Viking invasion) The Prisoner (based on the UK television series that ran briefly in the late 1960’s) 22 Acacia Avenue (The continuation of Charlotte the Harlot) The Number of the Beast (Inspired by a dream Bassist Steve Harris had after watching the movie the Omen2) Run to the Hills (about the European arrival in America told from the perspective of both the oppressed Cree and the invading white soldiers) Hallowed be Thy Name (about a man who is about to be put to death and what he goes through) * Do this song live at Hammersmith 1982 From Piece of Mind------ Where Eagles Dare (based on an Alistair Maclean novel, (1967), and film (1968) about a WWII rescue of an American general from a Nazi stronghold in the Bavarian Alps Revelations (Starts with the Hymnal from Oh God of Earth and Alter, the next two verses on the Hindu philosophy, the third verse in Yoga a snake called Kundalini that lives at the base of your spinal cord, during meditation a spiritual entity is created symbolizing the transcendental union with God) Flight of Icarus (loosely based on the ancient Greek myth of Icarus) The Trooper (based on the Charge of the Light Brigade at the Battle of Balaclava 1854,which took place during the Crimean War) To Tame a Land (the song relays the story of Paul Atreides, Paul Muad'Dib, from the book Dune by Frank Herbert) From Powerslave------ Aces High (about aircraft dog fighting between the British and German fighter pilots of WWII) 2 Minutes to Midnight - About the Doomsday clock for the End of the World Back in The Village (The continuation of the song The Prisoner) Powerslave (about an arrogant pharaoh in his dying hours, he can't understand why he's about to die and fights it in vain) Rime of the Ancient Mariner - (From the poem of the same name by Samuel Taylor Coleridge (story about about an ocean voyage) From Somewhere in Time------- Wasted Years (A song about the admonition to appreciate the present and not to take things for granted) The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner (based on a short story of Alan Sillitoe which was made into a 1962 film Alexander the Great (About the story of Alexander the Great From 7th Son of a 7th Son (a concept album)------ Infinite Dreams (Detailing someone who is tormented by paranormal dreams and nightmares) The Evil That Men Do (Title taken from a quote in Shakespeare Julius Caesar but the song is unrelated) The Clairvoyant (relates the reflections of the 7th Son of the 7th Son on his life and his powers) From Fear of the Dark------ Wasting Love (About the emptiness of relationships without love. Another Maiden ballad) Fear of the Dark (About being afraid of the dark and the things in the dark that might be there - absolute a live performance for this one) From Brave New World------ The Wicker Man (about the apathy of our modern society and our egotistic disinterest of what is happening until something happens to us) Ghost of the Navigator (The lyrics are a metaphor of life, with the ship sailing west towards the setting sun representing death) Brave New World (Loosely based on the 1932 novel by Aldous Huxley) Dream of Mirrors (Yet another song about reoccurring and maybe premonitory dreams) Out of the Silent Planet (Supposedly inspired by the 1956 science -fiction film Forbidden Planet) From Dance of Death------ No More Lies (The lyrics deal with someone knows his time has come with the possibility of reincarnation) Dance of Death (Orinally inspired by Ingmar Bergman's 1957 film The Seventh Seal - Another one to do as a live performance) Paschendale (about the Battle of Passchendaele during WWI) From A Matter of Life and Death------ Brighter than a Thousand Suns (About the dawn of the nuclear bomb age) The Longest Day (about the WWII Normandy Invasion) Out of the Shadows (About being born)
Just saw Maiden last Saturday night, on their world tour. It was an amazing show! I think they are still getting better with age. The show was very theatrical, & I loved it!
Saw them in sweden at that tour… still the best i have seen out of all the concerts i visited since Felt like being hit by a freight train Thanx for sharing
I love this! The Live After Death concert was unbelievable! They were definitely 'Peaking' at this point of their career. I saw them for the 4th time in 2019 and they still melted our faces off!
Great reaction! Wish it was the one from Hammersmith 1982 though as this recording is of the fourth out of four days of concert at long beach arena and after years of heavy touring already. While the 82 one is right at the start of Bruce's Maiden career and his range is in his super prime time ;p
One of my absolute favourite singers and a superb frontman to boot! I'd say that it's not unusual to find inspiration from musical theatre in genres such as power metal and (perhaps especially) symphonic metal. Thanks for the reaction/analysis, excellent as usual!
Bruce has said that Iron Maiden isn't just a music performance, but they try to make it more of a play (as in theater). So I guess it's sort of a heavy musical 😂
I’ve being going to theirs concerts ever since the 90, this guys are absolute monsters, even today they keep up this energy, even when they look they should not. They are still producing high quality new music to this date, with live performances to match it.
Just now found your channel. Loved how your smile just got bigger and bigger as the song went on. Check them out doing Fear Of The Dark live in Brazil. It’s jaw dropping. Another band with a vocalist with huge range is Manowar. Check out Battle Hymns, Warrior’s Of The World United-live, Hail and Kill, The Power, Defender, Kingdom Come, and Carry On. I really think you’d love his range. Thanks and great job
Early on in your analysis you mentioned that something reminded you of “Phantom of the Opera”. If you haven’t heard it yet then I would recommend checking out the song Phantom of the Opera by Iron Maiden. It was also recorded live on the same tour in 1984-85. I just saw them live in October last year and they were still fantastic.
if you're dwelling into rock and metal, rob halford from judas priest and Ronnie James Dio are great example of how metal and rock singers can develop so many different uses for their voices. Like bruce dickinson has a storytelling type voice in some songs, yet can hit really long, high notes. not to mention, he is VERY active during performances which i know makes it difficult on breath control
I was there that night in Long Beach, my very first concert and I have almost never missed a tour since. By far the greatest live show, they always deliver the goods. Bruce might not be able to sustain those notes for as long as he used to, but his control, diction and tone are still on point. Up the Irons!
Iron Maiden were my favorite band growing up. This comes from their Live after Death live movie, which I wore the VHS of out due to watching it so many times as a boy. A couple months back I took my Granddaughter to see them and they were just as good as I remembered. When he shouted Scream for me Tampa Bay it brought tears to my eyes.
Welcome to Iron Maiden. Welcome to true Metal. You have a lot of ground to cover with just Maiden alone. Same song... Beast Over Hammersmith. You're welcome. Oh well! Wherever. Wherever you are. Iron Maiden's gonna get you. No matter how far. Up the Irons!
As a metal head in the 80's, Seen Maiden 7 times. Bruce, the boys and Eddie never disappointed. They were the most amazing live band ever to a long hair in high school.
Ooh I have been waiting for this one. Bruce is the epitome of stamina. Though you managed to find one of the rare lives that he sounds a bit out of breath. 😛 I saw them in July and they are as spectacular as ever! This band is so amazing! I would recommend "fear of the dark" live from rock in Rio so you can actually see their reaction with the fans.
My Favorite Band. I used to learn their songs on guitar and was pretty good at it, but couldn't compete with their guitarist. Not only do you have to know the songs but to not forget the parts that come up.
Their "The Talisman" performance in 2013 en vivo live album is Great and It would be a good way to see how his vocal performance evolved through the years. So Please do The Talisman en vivo Live in Chilie 2013 as the next maiden video. It's also one of the unpopular performance video among the vocal coach youtubers.
B, I totally agree. I think The Talisman may be Bruce's most demanding performance for, if nothing else, stamina due to the pace and duration of the song and abundance of lyrics. It may not be one of Maiden's best known tracks, but it's a hidden gem that I wish more vocal coaches/reactors would check out!
I was at that tour in Philadelphia and jyst as solid as this then I seen them again in 2019 doing things better than ever!!! By far the world's hardest working team of musicians no doubt 💪
You're face was exactly like mine the first time I heard Maiden. This guy is an honorary Oxford professor who once flew his own Spitfire WW2 fighter over Donnington castle, singing live, wearing a wireless headset. Now you know who Maiden is. Best of their genre, best of their time. You picked an album I could be abandoned with on a desert island. Best metal vocalist of all time.
You mentioned "the phantom of the opera",so now you must do this live from Iron maiden, sung by their former vocalist and by Dickinson to compare them.A superb piece, inspired by the original
If I remember correctly that particular video was recorded when they were recording the Live After Death live album and VHS video cassette recorded live @ Long Beach Arena California they were promoting the release of their Powerslave album at the time speaking of if you haven't already check out the live performance of Rime Of The Ancient Mariner from the same tour it's just brilliant

I just saw Maiden 10 days ago on October 7th in Columbus, Ohio for the first time since 1985 and they still have similar energy.
Great review!!
you are in for a treat just saw them in 5 oct in Chicago awesome concert and very good opener
just saw them last Sunday, awesome show, with a ton of pyrotechnics. I'd recommend bringing some foam earplugs, and seat them just enough that it doesn't distort/muffle the sound, but lessens impact. People around me were complaining afterwards about how bad their ears were ringing, mine were fine. I was about 100 feet from the stage, on the floor.
@@PoopLoop202 no needs for earplugs for me but i was way up and the sound was perfect

They are on tour right now. You should go if you get the opportunity. STILL AMAZING!!!
That 'World Slavery Tour' tour was my first concert when I was 15. It left quite an impression. Thanks a ton for the reaction, Up the Irons.
Great reaction to an awesome group. I have seen them live 4 times spanning from the mid 80's to the early 90's and there aren't very many singers that can energize the crowd like Bruce Dickenson.
So pleased to see someone play the 1984 version. Such a great performance.
Voice Teacher -
I recall the first album I heard from IRON MAIDEN, Piece of Mind.
Please keep reviewing IRON MAIDEN and telling your fascination with the band and of course the singer,
Oh yeah, lets not forget your smile!!!
CHEERS , Woody
Glad you finally discovered them. I've been a huge fan since the early 80s and go to see them live in concert nearly a dozen times.
I was at that concert; what an incredible experience! I remember being absolutely gobsmacked by their performance. I was really into Twisted Sister before this concert, (TS opened for Maiden), but was a diehard Maiden fan immediately after the first song, (Aces High)
Looking forward to hearing more vocal reactions from you!!! Thank you!!!
Hi Bethany, I love your reactions. You have the most amazing, happy smile!!😁
This was recorded at Long Beach Arena in 1985 and, if I'm not mistaken, this was the fourth night of a 4 night sold out show at this location so by this time his voice was pretty tired but he was still able to pull it off pretty well. He is a vocal icon in the Metal world!!
It's also pretty late in the set. He's been singing for almost an hour at this point.
@@surfdigby Yes it was. I have the original VHS video and Vynal record of "Live After Death" that was released in 1985...lol
I bought it as soon as it came out.😁
@@timclark1324 I finally bought the DVD of Live After Death last week. My poor VHS is finally getting retired.
they are awsome live... and Bruce Dickenson(the singer) is one of the VERY BEST in the business.....this song is top 3... 4 me 4 th.. ty 4 r ✌
Definitely one of the all time greatest metal vocalists.
Michael Kiske (Helloween), Geoff Tate (Queensryche), Hansi Kürsch (Blind Guardian) are some of the others in similar styles that you should also check out
Can't forget about Dio and Halford some of the best vocalists of all time.
Michael Matijevic from Steelheart and Sebastian Bach from Skid Row and Eric Gronwall
Steve Grimmet with Grim Reaper.
Dio not to forget. Ronnie James Dio is number one. Dickinson called Dio as one of the singers who will always be beyond him.

Keeper of The Seven Keyes part 2 by Helloween is a masterpiece , You (@the vocalyst) should give it a go on youre channel \m/
I saw them for this tour at Portland Memorial Colosseum…FRONT ROW!!! Still the best show that I’ve ever seen!! Up The Irons!!
Saw them on this tour in Chicago 1984 , and just saw them this month in Seattle they still got it
Bruce Dickinson is so multi-talented, having written books, prose and poems that reflect and represent his artistic genius. Iron Maiden are the epitome oh Heavy Metal music, so orchestral and symphonic in sound and their songs and lyrics (thinking about Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner) are timeless works of art.
Loved this ❤❤❤
This is the guy who flew his OWN WW2 Spitfire over Donnington Castle, wearing a wireless headset singing Aces High.
Bruce is legend.
My favorite metal and since I was 8. I’m 53.
I still wear my albatross.
Now I know how my face looked the first time I heard Maiden.... Great job, Up The Irons!
This is THE BEST VERSION of all!!!! the other reaction channels always react to the 1982 version and others most current!! This is The Version...Iron Maiden 1985 at the TOP of his career... THANX!
Nah, 1982 had everytning, was perfect. This one is also great, but cant compare
saw them in 1983 in Dortmond Ger . Just awesome !!!! was in the vid as well with the crowd sweep !!
@@j_freedI have NO problem with their live version of Aces High, for the reasons I stated.
Awesome 👍👍 friend TY for reaction first time saw them was 82 I was going on 15 seen them many times more after that. IM UP THE IRONS
Just saw them AGAIN last on 10/21, another amazing Maiden show. You really should go see them on the next tour. It’s an event and experience. Not just a concert.
I just saw them last fall and Bruce still absolutely kills this song! One of the best thematic metal vocalists in the world!
Welcome to Bruce " Air raid siren" Dickinson and Iron Maiden. UP THE IRONS. Grew up to this band so many great songs and they are better live than studio.
They are the reason I have come to love metal ❤
He is one of the greats...with Ronnie James Dio, Geoff Tate, Rob Halford.. These vocalist, have definitely set the bar..
Saw them a few months ago, here in Portugal, and it was the show of my life. The same energy as 40 years ago!!
I never thought I’d get to see them live but they’re coming to Australia in Sept 2024, and we’re going! 🎉🎉
Great reaction video!
I've seen them live 5 times... best shows I've ever been to. It is more of a theatrical performance than a rock concert.
Absolutely, mate! Also: their smile/grinning on stage is infectious!
I've been listening to Iron Maiden since 1982, at the age of 15. This song is probably Maiden's most popular on RUclips, from the Live After Death Tour.
The beast one IMO is the Beast Over Hammersmith 1982 version
Iron Maiden is:

Iron Maiden -- Phantom of the Opera (Live at the Rainbow 1980 - with first singer Paul DiAnno, The Clansman - Rock In Rio 2001 9/16,
Iron Maiden - Dance Of Death (Live At Estadio Nacional, Santiago) also the ones listed below.
Highlight of songs I'd recommend are:
From Iron Maiden------
Phantom of the Opera - A must for live version
Strange World (this one will be totally different Iron Maiden)
From Killers ------
Murders in the Rue Morgue (Very loosely influenced by Edgar Allen Poe's short story, a story of a fugitive being sought for murder) ***You have done
Genghis Khan (an instrumental - perfect for air drumming)
Innocent Exile (continues the theme of Murders in the Rue Morgue of an unjustly accused fugitive)
Killers (A journey into the twisted mind of a deranged killer)
Prodigal Son(about a repentant man reminiscent of the prodigal son parable found in Luke 15 of the bible)
Purgatory(lyrics of song read like a poem)
Drifter (focuses on the possibility of new beginnings)
From The Number of the Beast------
Invaders (It graphically depicts the violence and horror of a defense against a Viking invasion)
The Prisoner (based on the UK television series that ran briefly in the late 1960’s)
22 Acacia Avenue (The continuation of Charlotte the Harlot)
The Number of the Beast (Inspired by a dream Bassist Steve Harris had after watching the movie the Omen2)
Run to the Hills (about the European arrival in America told from the perspective of both the oppressed Cree and the invading white soldiers)
Hallowed be Thy Name (about a man who is about to be put to death and what he goes through) * Do this song live at Hammersmith 1982
From Piece of Mind------
Where Eagles Dare (based on an Alistair Maclean novel, (1967), and film (1968) about a WWII rescue of an American general from a Nazi stronghold in the Bavarian Alps
Revelations (Starts with the Hymnal from Oh God of Earth and Alter, the next two verses on the Hindu philosophy, the third verse in Yoga a snake called Kundalini that lives at the base of your spinal cord, during meditation a spiritual entity is created symbolizing the transcendental union with God)
Flight of Icarus (loosely based on the ancient Greek myth of Icarus)
The Trooper (based on the Charge of the Light Brigade at the Battle of Balaclava 1854,which took place during the Crimean War)
To Tame a Land (the song relays the story of Paul Atreides, Paul Muad'Dib, from the book Dune by Frank Herbert)
From Powerslave------
Aces High (about aircraft dog fighting between the British and German fighter pilots of WWII)
2 Minutes to Midnight - About the Doomsday clock for the End of the World
Back in The Village (The continuation of the song The Prisoner)
Powerslave (about an arrogant pharaoh in his dying hours, he can't understand why he's about to die and fights it in vain)
Rime of the Ancient Mariner - (From the poem of the same name by Samuel Taylor Coleridge (story about about an ocean voyage)
From Somewhere in Time-------
Wasted Years (A song about the admonition to appreciate the present and not to take things for granted)
The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner (based on a short story of Alan Sillitoe which was made into a 1962 film
Alexander the Great (About the story of Alexander the Great
From 7th Son of a 7th Son (a concept album)------
Infinite Dreams (Detailing someone who is tormented by paranormal dreams and nightmares)
The Evil That Men Do (Title taken from a quote in Shakespeare Julius Caesar but the song is unrelated)
The Clairvoyant (relates the reflections of the 7th Son of the 7th Son on his life and his powers)
From Fear of the Dark------
Wasting Love (About the emptiness of relationships without love. Another Maiden ballad)
Fear of the Dark (About being afraid of the dark and the things in the dark that might be there - absolute a live performance for this one)
From Brave New World------
The Wicker Man (about the apathy of our modern society and our egotistic disinterest of what is happening until something happens to us)
Ghost of the Navigator (The lyrics are a metaphor of life, with the ship sailing west towards the setting sun representing death)
Brave New World (Loosely based on the 1932 novel by Aldous Huxley)
Dream of Mirrors (Yet another song about reoccurring and maybe premonitory dreams)
Out of the Silent Planet (Supposedly inspired by the 1956 science -fiction film Forbidden Planet)
From Dance of Death------
No More Lies (The lyrics deal with someone knows his time has come with the possibility of reincarnation)
Dance of Death (Orinally inspired by Ingmar Bergman's 1957 film The Seventh Seal - Another one to do as a live performance)
Paschendale (about the Battle of Passchendaele during WWI)
From A Matter of Life and Death------
Brighter than a Thousand Suns (About the dawn of the nuclear bomb age)
The Longest Day (about the WWII Normandy Invasion)
Out of the Shadows (About being born)
Excellent! Thank you!
UP THE IRONS 🤘
Nope. Live after Death is their best live ever and beyond ever, kids
@@TML0677 its only ur meaning no reason zo get rude.
Definitely worth a like for all the typing. Very informative.
Just saw Maiden last Saturday night, on their world tour. It was an amazing show! I think they are still getting better with age. The show was very theatrical, & I loved it!
You have no idea just how much talent there is in Iron Maiden. Bethany you really need to check out more of their stuff.
Saw them in sweden at that tour… still the best i have seen out of all the concerts i visited since
Felt like being hit by a freight train
Thanx for sharing
Easily The Best Metal Band that Exists. Best Singer, Best Musicians, Best Production, Best Artwork, Best Everything.
I love Maiden since I was a kid, but there are many bests in metal, really. There is no such thing as only one. Respectfully.
The reason he is so animated is so the people in the back row get the same feeling as those in the front row
I love this! The Live After Death concert was unbelievable! They were definitely 'Peaking' at this point of their career. I saw them for the 4th time in 2019 and they still melted our faces off!
It was truly fun to watch you get lost in it. My first and last concert was these guys. Loudest band I have ever experienced.
Great reaction! Wish it was the one from Hammersmith 1982 though as this recording is of the fourth out of four days of concert at long beach arena and after years of heavy touring already. While the 82 one is right at the start of Bruce's Maiden career and his range is in his super prime time ;p
Bro, they only played 3 nights in Long Beach.
One of my absolute favourite singers and a superb frontman to boot! I'd say that it's not unusual to find inspiration from musical theatre in genres such as power metal and (perhaps especially) symphonic metal. Thanks for the reaction/analysis, excellent as usual!
It shows how well he has looked after his body that he is still singing today well into his 60s.
And if that doesn't impress, throw in that throat cancer ten(ish) years ago which forced him to learn to talk again.
He sounds like crap these days.
@@travisfoster1071 not true. he cant hit the high notes as in his prime, but thats the price of age. but he still has the great technique and voice
Saw them live in 84, 88, 14, and 17. Bruce is Awesome! The band is incredible! They aged so well. Up the Irons!
I saw them in 2003 during the Dance of Death tour. My mind's still blown nearly 20 years later.
I was there that night in Long Beach, my very first concert and I have almost never missed a tour since. By far the greatest live show, they always deliver the goods. Bruce might not be able to sustain those notes for as long as he used to, but his control, diction and tone are still on point. Up the Irons!
Lucky MF. What a show! I lived in LA ten years but unfortunately they weren't the Metal years.
I saw this same world slavery tour in adelaide australia too , bloody amazing
I was there too, they played Long Beach Arena 3 nights straight. I was at the 2nd night March 5th 1985
@@RandyWebb70 they actually played 4 nights, all sold out . March 14 - 17. Up the Irons 🤘
You're right. I found my stub I was there March 15th.
"Running lowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww..." That sustained note as she says, gets me every time. Up the Irons!
MORE MAIDEN!!! it was awesome to see this
Welcome to Iron Maiden.
Welcome to true Metal. You have a lot of ground to cover with just Maiden alone.
Same song... Beast Over Hammersmith. You're welcome.
Oh well! Wherever. Wherever you are.
Iron Maiden's gonna get you. No matter how far.
Up the Irons!
Iron Maiden also has a song called Phantom of the Opera which is on their 1st album I think.
Live After Death is my favorite fn performance by them! They were still raw but had already figured out how to put on a show.
I saw them in July and they are as spectacular as ever!
Absolutely, I was thinking the same thing
Underappreciated. Top 5 Maiden song for me.
Between 1985 and 2019 I saw them countless times. Bruce always delivered.
Dear Bethany you really need to hear the ""Alexander The Great"" such a great song.
I was at that tour in Philadelphia and jyst as solid as this then I seen them again in 2019 doing things better than ever!!! By far the world's hardest working team of musicians no doubt 💪
book of soule ,with his own plane . these guys are tru rock and role .great music
He is absolutely a storyteller 😊
You're face was exactly like mine the first time I heard Maiden. This guy is an honorary Oxford professor who once flew his own Spitfire WW2 fighter over Donnington castle, singing live, wearing a wireless headset.
Now you know who Maiden is. Best of their genre, best of their time.
You picked an album I could be abandoned with on a desert island.
Best metal vocalist of all time.
You mentioned "the phantom of the opera",so now you must do this live from Iron maiden, sung by their former vocalist and by Dickinson to compare them.A superb piece, inspired by the original
The real problem with Phantom of the Opera is that the band can no longer keep up with the original pace, hardly any singing involved.
Watching this reaction was pure joy.
Bruce is phenomenal. I would also check out “I want out” by Halloween or “suite sister Mary” by queensryche… amazing as well
If I remember correctly that particular video was recorded when they were recording the Live After Death live album and VHS video cassette recorded live @ Long Beach Arena California they were promoting the release of their Powerslave album at the time speaking of if you haven't already check out the live performance of Rime Of The Ancient Mariner from the same tour it's just brilliant
Heavy Metal is not just music. Heavy Metal is life.
I’m 48 and have loved this band since 1986.
Great reaction to the galloping energy. Iron maiden music gallops 😊
55 and been jamming to them since 1980! Booyah fellow metalhead !!

ONE OF THE BEST IRON MAIDEN’S SONG AND IN TOP 3 OF THE BEST HARD ROCK SONG EVER.

THE WAY HE SING IT’S LIKE SURFING ON THE MUSIC.
I HEARD THIS SONG ONE THOUSAND TIME AND I DON’T GET BORED.
