I found the part about snake lungs really interesting. Would you consider doing a video about internal snake anatomy?
This would be so cool!
i second this! a video about snake (or honestly any reptile) anatomy would be such an interesting topic. i certainly wouldn't mind listening to her go off about snake anatomy for an hour!
I second this
I want this lol

How nice to see Legolass again, it's been awhile. She is always a joy.
That retic should be named Sherbet Lemon because of her delicious citrucy colour.
I was thinking the same thing. Such a pretty color.
Or Lemon Sorbet!
I was thinking Banana-Rama! 😊
She reminds me of a banana popsicle. Popsicle is a good name for a program animal.
I second that. Love the hp reference
I live in Norway and there's a bunch of legless lizards in the area near my house. They're called "stålorm" meaning "steel worm" or "steel snake" which I guess doesn't help since alot of people already mistake them for snakes. They're beautiful though and they shine like steel.
In Sweden we call them "kopparorm" because they look like the metal copper 😅 interesting how both countries named it after different metals!
@@feliciatingsborg1924 They are also called Kopparödla (copper lizard), wich is the proper common name.
In Dutch we call them hazelworm. Sadly they are quite rare here.
@@feliciatingsborg1924 cool. Never knew that😁
These are called slow worms in English. They're neat.
I will never get bored of the mural they did such a good job. Love all the hidden critters, Ally and Cheyne are so cool.
There’s suppose to be a hidden chameleon in there too. They talked about it in another video and it’s one you have to find in person
@@kuroakuma4459 1:58 bottom left by the tree
@@Commander9013 I'm pretty sure that's not a chameleon
About 4 years ago I discovered this channel while developing a medical issue that made mobility difficult. Now today I have gotten what will hopefully be the final surgery to correct the issue. Thank you to you and Ed and your staff for all the wonderful content that has helped me get through difficult times. I'm looking forward to being able to move freely and still keep Snake Discovery in my life.
I know I'm not snake discovery but I want to say a few things to you.
You are such an amazing person!
Even though I have never met you, I know you are!
Everyone who looks at you or are even around you should be blessed to even be in your presence!
I hope you have an amazing day!
And remember if someone hates on you it's just because their jealous of you!
So keep on being you!
Hope your surgery goes well!! Snake Discovery has also helped me deal with my health deteriorating by giving me something to consistently look forward to twice a week. They help more people in more ways than they know ✨
good luck with the surgery! My fingers are crossed for you!
I feel this. I got hit with genetic diseases I didn't know I had and I lost a lot of mobility, and so good entertainment is a MUST, and they helped me feel knowledgeable enough to get my boas, and I love them to death
Speedy recovery
Legolass is such a good girl! She’s so calm even when Emily flips her around and handles her tail. She’s very trusting and used to being handled. Love legless lizards!
That dwarf retic is so pretty. The pattern on her is just beautiful! I would say maybe naming her Belle. I know it’s not a very well thought out name, but her pattern reminds me of the animated version of Belle’s yellow ball gown.
and since she's being used in education, having a princess name might work well.
@@marli8907 ooh! Good point.
Only ogs remember the first leglass lizard video
I think it was valid the lizard from Harry Potter or snake
@@puppet_arti3t190 the snake in Harry Potter is called a basilisk
@@lenninmontiel4539 but it is a legless lizard
It was the one that made them famous
Yeah, I've loved that video and still do to this day :)
Starting to set up a tank for my very first snake. Getting it ready before a reptile expo in March. Never thought about a pet reptile, but after watching this channel for a number of months, I desperately want a little noodle of my own. Thanks, Snake Discovery!
The idea of the basilisk in the HP movies being a giant legless lizard is legit hilarious.
Gosh, the people that get to attend your in-person programs are so lucky! This was super informative and engaging and I can see why people love your programs!
I love the fluid movement of a snake, it has always fascinated me.
If you don't already have an animal named "LaBarabra", I think that would be a fun name for the super dwarf. She's Hermes Conrad's wife in Futurama. I believe you guys are fans of the show! :)
I think you mean he's her husband lol, I don't think LaBarbara is anybodies anything ;P Too 'Yaas Queen!' for that
@@tenshikaren Lol. I was waiting for this comment. XD
I phrased it that way because Hermes is more of the "main cast" than she was... or at least he appeared more frequently... and maybe some people would be like "there's no LaBarbara in Futurama" without the context reminder. LaBarbara is definitely far more than just Hermes' wife and I totally agree that she is one sassy lady!
My mind immediately went to Lahabrea, who's a bad guy in Final Fantasy XIV. When you fight him (well, technically the younger version of him that was corrupted by his wife and he split off his soul), he can turn into a snake.
I have to say this is one of the best educational channels on youtube. Family friendly, informative, fun, nerdy, and Emily's a great presenter!
These education videos also answer so many of my questions! Thank you Ed and Emily!
I recommend you to name the dwarf retic "ALICE"🍄🐍Coz Alice (in wonderland) can be big or small by eating a mushroom. This retic has a potential to be big snake but since she has a dwarf morph, she is much smaller than normal retics. So I think "ALICE" fits as her name.
I swear I’ll never get bored of this channel! You guys make learning about things I used to be terrified of fun, and have cured my fears. So thank you! The snake in this video should be called Sunshine, they’re giving happy sunshiney vibes 💕
I love snake discovery so much!! It teaches me a lot about reptiles! Also the name for snake maybe banana! It’s a cute name!
Lizards: hey can I copy your homework?
Snakes: yeah just change it up so it doesn’t look suspicious.
That beautiful retic looks like Sunshine
Oh names! I would totally call her Banana Split :) Beautiful animals and content as usual, thanks for sharing them with us xx
My ball python is named banana split
@@nickpannone8622 I figure shes gotta have good fibre with all the pooping and Ed needed to split haha 😄 plus the colours work x
Banana Split! I love that! 😍
As someone who knows only basic information about reptiles (almost everything I know I learned from this channel), my first thought when I saw a legless lizard was "what's wrong with that snake". 😄 There are so many things about it that I found jarringly different from a snake, mainly with it's head, that I can't imagine what it was like for people that originally discovered them.
As kids we use to play with legless lizards lol they were usually friendly compared to everything else here in Australia 😂😂
Random fact of the day: Australian legless lizards (Pygopodidae) are actually close relatives of... geckos!
@@Evenape I did not know that lol cheers 🤙
Legless lizards are sometimes called "glass snakes", because of their ability to break their tail from their body. They also move differently, with so much more tail. I'm not sure how to describe it, but I can tell almost immediately a legless lizard from a snake just from locomotion alone.
I like how she just picks up their body parts, and when she’s done explaining, she just yeets it aside
The new little reticulated python is so bright yellow and sweet. Mellow Yellow or Limoncello would be cute names for her!
I just realized you are one of the few educational channels I watch even when its about critters I don't have/ikely won't ever. I still get so excited when I see a new video pop up.
Even thought I only like snakes, legless lizards are very cool too!! Love your videos btw!
Emily, you were BORN to do education and outreach! You are such a natural. I wish I had school trips to facilities like yours when I was a kid. Just watching this video makes me feel like a kid again, and I'm 57!
A fun fact is there's actually a species of legless lizard native to the UK called the slow worm and is one of the few reptiles to call the UK home.
If you haven't named it yet, you should name your dwarf retic a word for big like how you named your green anaconda Tiny. Maybe Giga? She's so cute, and so is Legolas, good to get an update on her.
Omg I love this idea! Other names that could work are Titus, Titan, Grande, and so on. 😊
Omg I didn’t know you guys had Legless lizards! That’s so cool
Aurelie and Cressida both mean golden. I've seen a site that says Laurelin is a name that Tolkien created meaning "song of gold". All of the differences in facts were cool to learn and Emily always does an amazing job of explaining it clearly and well for both grownups and little ones.
Name ideas for the python!!
"Goldberry" because she was in the video with Legoloss (apologies if I misspelled her name), I went with another Lord of the Rings name. Goldberry is the partner of Tom Bombadil in the books. She is said to have golden hair and is often described as having a link to nature.
"Sherbet Lemon" A nod to Harry Potter. It's Dumbledore's favorite candy and even a password for his office at one point, I believe in the Chamber of Secrets even.
"Butterbeer" Again Harry Potter.
"Princess Buttercup" As a reference to The Princess Bride. I know Emily often quotes Inigo Montoya in some baby snake videos so I thought it was cute.
I like butter beer and gold berry very suiting
Ooo, I second Princess Buttercup
omg Goldberry would be so cute! She's such an underrepresented character.
I love that Legolas looks like she's smiling when you were telling her how much nicer she is than Lt. Dan xD
I love snake discovery so much!! One day I want to work at snake discovery because I love reptiles
great content in this video Emily. I learned so much. can't wait to see the next video on the basilisk
I want a leg less lizard but when I go to Arlington Texas show I’m adopting one of your bearded dragons
See you there!!!!
@@HissyFitPetTherapy yeee
With not having snakes in NZ and not sure about legless lizards, these (all these) videos are so gr8, entertaining and educational, keep them coming. I also love, enjoy any videos that show the snow, where u are, as it's so different to NZ; At the moment the top of the North, is VERY wet, and the South Island, is loved and hot 20-30°C+
I did NOT know legless lizards can drop their tails!!! Considering how long that tail is, that must look wild!
I've watched ur channel half my childhood and I'm still a kid! 🥰
Hi Emily! I love your channel! Been learning so much and actually made the decision to get a California Kingsnake a year ago thanks to you guys and Clint's Reptiles. Best decision of my life! His name is Eliot and he's the cutest and most precious danger noodle of them all.
Thank you so much for the work you put into this!
Greetings from Romania 🤎
I really don't get how to confuse them, their faces look so different! Maybe thats some Cilantro gene thing as well.
Hey, Snake Discovery I just wanted to say is that Thank you for the facts about the leg less lizards and the snakes. And i just wanted to tell you that you should name the snake that you brought in your video Banana. Btw LOVE your video!!!🤩
I see we’ve come around to this topic again. It’s an interesting confusion because, to me, the distinction is obvious just by the look of the animal. Still wonderful informative video as always.
It is quite difficult to mix them up, yes. But there are lots kids watching this channel so it's probably more geared towards people who are hearing about a legless lizard for the first time. And then there's some more in-depth info for more curious folks
This confusion is really common though. In Norway these are very common, but almost no one seems to know that they aren't snakes. I think there's a huge difference, but most people are afraid of snakes and don't dare to look closely enough.
I was thinking about these guys lately! I'm so happy we get a video about them!
I showed my brother this video, cause we keep having an argument about legless lizards and the fact that they are not snakes. And he is still not convinced that they are different..
Seems like he is different
It’s immediately obvious how much you love and respect animals and how much you love educating people about them 😊 I didn’t know legless lizards were a thing thank you for informing me!
Thanks for the educational videos😊
Here's an interesting thing: I've always had a horrible terrible knee-jerk intense fear response to snakes. It's something I've been working on for a very long time. But even as a kid, I've never been afraid of legless lizards! Somehow my brain is able to classify them as not-snakes before I can even get a good look at them.
You should name the super dwarf reticulated python Sunflower sunny for short because of how bright yellow she looks on camera
Honestly the first legless lizard video absolutely made me fall in love with them. Don't have any reptiles myself but if I had to choose one I would 100% get a legless lizard. They can share my dog's food 😆😆
This is one of the best channels to get educational information from, I love Snake Discovery and will stand by them. However that being said Legless Lizards still confuse the heck outta me, more so after this video.
So excited yesterday- I caught a San Diego legless lizard out walking my dog in the hills yesterday. I haven't seen one in 20 years! All the growth and drought, they have become an extremely find, it doesn't help that they are a burrowing species either. This one was just enjoying the sunshine and relatively warm day for a few moments before going back in his burrow!
My dad hates snakes.
A LOT
So when I tried to tell him that legless lizards are not the same as snakes and he does not believe me.
Now I have a video to send him
Haha. My mom has a huge snake phobia. I took a photo of a legless lizard I found during a walk and when I showed her she was all "put it away! You know I'm afraid of snakes". And I sat there like...."it's not a snake...."
She told me that it doesn't matter. If it looks like a snake and acts like a snake, then it's a snake in her book😅
How about Lemony Snicket for the dwarf retic? Or Xanth? That yellow color should be noted in some way.
Of course, Ed may think Port-a-Potty is a more fitting name... 😆
Did you see that topic on Reddit and decided to educate the masses?😂 Amazing video ❤️
I always ramble about reptile stuff that i learn from you guys, even though they don‘t seem to appreciate it, i still do it
WOW That snake looks like a sunbeam😁
Oh! I love coming up with names! Here's some: Tumeric, Tulip, Butterscotch, Crayola, Peach, Mango, Apricot
And what well behaved girls you have. Such beautiful animals. Even already knowing many of the differences in this video, I still learned some new things! You guys are amazing, ty!
Me:( thinks it obvious)
My sister: wtf??
Wow, this is so interesting!! I love these more educational videos, you present so well, and I like being introduced to the adorable reptile stars :)
Beautiful creatures ❤
Thank you Emily! I really enjoy your educational and non educational videos!
You should do a video where you tell use how to recognize one that's in the wild without picking it up
Just look at the overall proportions, head shape, coloration and scale pattern. Legless lizards look nothing like snakes
Thank you for bringing good educational attention to this amazing animal!!
❤❤❤
I love snake🐍
Lol I watched the first one when it came out and I still watched this entire one intently. I’ll never get tired of Emily talking about animals ❤
The irony of Emily explaining the "lateral line" like a suitcase is, if you watch the "Pomona Reptile Show" video, they indeed use the "little zipper stretch" thing on their suitcase to bring back all the extra stuff they ended picking up in California...
That snake is very chill. She didn't even seem to react when you pulled her lip back to show her teeth.
Ok so I started watching this channel with a video about the same topic! Does that mean I've been watching this channel so long, that enough time has passed that it warrants another video on the topic? I feel old and happy at the same time.
Both of these animals are so beautiful and amazing… In the past, I never put much time into learning about legless lizards… but they’re so distinctive and interesting in their own way! Amazing how two species that seem visually similar at a glance… can be so radically different.
I have been TRYING to explain to my brother and friends that there are legless lizards and they aren’t snakes. Now I can share this with them. Thanks! ^^
Thanks! I watched this one earlier but wasn't signed in on that device. Thanks for all you do!
I like to imagine Emily got this idea from when she made a joke about the lateral line on her suitcase
For some reason RUclips keeps unsubscribing me from your channel glad I found your videos so I can binge watch now
Some names to consider for the dwarf retic:
Banana
Lemon
Pineapple
Daffodil
Dandelion
Sunflower
Butternut (squash)
=)
"This is Legolas."
"We need a name for our Super-Dwarf Retic."
I vote Gimli.
I like how that LL is just sitting there resigned to defeat.
I think “little miss sunshine” would be a good name for the dwarf retic because her pooping antics put a smile on my face. Also her beautiful yellows are like sunflowers 🌻
I appreciate this information. Absolutely love this channel😄
I love the plot twist at the end. Legless lizards are not snakes... But snakes... are LEGLESS LIZARDS? DUN DUN DUNNNNN.
I love these living monorails so much.
Thanks to you, I now know a few things about the glass lizard living outside the back door.
Gorgeous dwarf retic! I don’t know why but when I look at her all I can think is “Sunburst”
Name suggestion for the retic: The Mad Pooper.
hello! i get so happy when u post!!!! P.S so excited for the next fan mail, i sen some stuff
Ooh! Ooh! I have some ideas for names for the dwarf retic.
Cavendish
Lady finger
Lemony Snake-it
The retic pooping everywhere was comedy gold 🤣
My cat keeps bringing in Slow Worms (a legless lizard species in the UK) and they are so fascinating! We have a whole community of them living under the compost heap. I love my little lizards
From what I've learned of snakes, they are most closely related to monitors, but that is just what I have heard, I don't have any proof except what I've learned from books, documentaries and research papers. Absolutely amazing video! ❤
Maybe not directly Monitors, but in the clade Toxicofera there are three living groups, the Serpentes (all Snakes), the Iguania (iguanas, agamids, chameleons, etc), the Anguimorpha (Monitors, Beaded lizards, Alligator lizards & True Legless lizards of the clade Anguidae, etc), the Serpentes are said to be most related to Anguimorpha, the Serpentes closest extinct relative are said to be the †Mosasauroidea (Mosasaurs) based on the most recent data.
Loved this video - your 2 beautiful assistants are gorgeous.
QUESTION: I have a ball python who hasn’t eaten in 5 WEEKS! He hasn’t lost too much weight, but I’m a little worried! His environment is fine, he doesn’t get handled too often, and he sheds perfectly fine. Can you tell me what to do??
Always love seeing the Legless Lizards such cool animals! Please do some Rosy Boa videos!?
Absolutely fascinating! They are both so cool! I must learn more about this
wow first time being early good wid. I love legless lizards so much! they are so derpy
Hi from Johannesburg south Africa. Thanks for all the great videos. Have learned so much..
This is an excellent video. I've actually been wondering this for quite a while. Do you have a video on how to care for legless lizard? That's what I'm going to look up next
Not sure I count as OG but I found this channel during lockdown and I think I’ve watched all their videos now. 😂
I immediately thought “wait didn’t they already do this video? Oh well”
I can’t believe I’ve been watching this channel long enough to watch it go back through the educational cycle! I’m HERE for longer, more complex explanations. But you guys should go watch the OG videos.
