    It's amazing to see how all the females and the male help to protect the eggs. In nature, where the eggs are not being incubated but eaten, that makes a lot of sense.

    I am by no means an expert, but I have studied the Madagascar giant hognose in the wild. I never came across males fighting, however, they were up for fighting everything else that came near them so I wouldn't be surprised if they fought each other as well.

    You can get sharpie off of those plastic bins with 70% ethanol. High percentage alcohol wipes will work too. I work in a lab and I've accidentally taken labels off of tubes while putting them into our sterile cell culture hood

    I saw a video of a Ball Python breeder who uses Orbees in his egg boxes, instead of perlite. Apparently, they work really well and are reusable. Plus, no dust. I'm thinking I might give it a try.

    Hi Emily and Ed! Been watching your journey for a few years now … Have you considered using Food Grade/Safe Markers for marking the Eggs? I’ve always wondered how much of the chemicals would get absorbed in the eggs - and if so, would it be a significant or insignificant amount?

    Theory - when there are more eggs than usual in the mom, maybe she calcifies and lays them early because if they grew more they would not all fit inside her? 🙂

    In my defense I'm only so tough about the Perlite because I personally know people who died of illness from exposure to that kind of thing. I know it doesn't feel like it's unsafe to inhale, but a decade or two down the road is too soon to die. Please consider at least spraying the pouring perlite with a misting water spray from a bottle so less of it flies up as a dust, if you don't want to wear masks and do that.

    hi Ed and Emily 👋i'm just curious as to why you bred the snakes with their parents? is it safe and if so how?
    anyways loves the channel and i always look forward to your videos 🥰

    • @jntrahin
      @jntrahin 11 месяцев назад +2

      It is safe! It's been a couple years I think, but they did a video on it a while back. Basically snake genetics don't work like human or dog genetics. They don't get weird issues until you REALLY get inbred, like many generations in. I think that video was still in their home, something about how line breeding works if you search it back in their channel!

    Suggestion: u could use tape on your egg boxes to write on and then you can remove the tape and not have to mark out your dates.

    • @jadecoolness101
      @jadecoolness101 11 месяцев назад +1

      With the humidity, the tape (if it is like painter's tape) could get wet and run the marker, making it unreadable.
      Plastic tape (like packing tape) also isn't ideal and doesn't tend to hold marker effectively in my experience.
