    In terms of the affix priority I think the differnces in opinion both have their merits and I'd like to elaborate.
    I agree that DR on distant is a lot less useful than any other form of DR, I would get one roll of DR vs Distant across the entire build.
    While Armor is the single best defensive stat in the game I disagree total armor is a top 2 affix because of how low the roll is and because of how easy it is to cap DR from armor, I would pick it over DR against distant but not over Max Life. I'd rank it as top 3/4 (competing with general DR). That is, however, conditional to your current stats, I would have a different idea in case of a build that already has high life but isn't that close to the armor DR cap.
    DR from close and Max Life are the top tier affixes due to the sheer stat volume of the rolls. Here I need to stress that the first single decent Life roll increases your HP by more than 12%, you don't have to have the life roll on all the available slots but like he said you need at least Helm and Rings because you don't get any other defensive affixes that are as good on those slots, you should never sacrifice life unless on chest and legs and only for godtier defensive stats.
    I like DR when injuried because of the sheer volume of the roll and because I also like to play a bit of PvP. I rank it a bit higher than DR vr Distant.
    I dislike DR from poisoned and CCd because many sources of damage cannot be CCd (or affected by anything), it also relies on you always applying stuff before you get damaged, I'd even take DR vs distant over those.
    I consider Dodge a bad stat up to the very lategame when it becomes a great stat out of the simple fact that it's an additional layer that gains value the closer you are to DR caps, it requires you to be maxed out everywhere else before it's good. Unfortunately you can only get it on a couple of slots so it's mostly a filler stat, a bit better on Rogues.
    I'd love for CC duration reduction to roll on more slots because it being available only on chest and amulet keeps us from achieving any relevant breakpoints.

  • @Patatmetmayo

    Resistance penalty is also a multiplier. 0.8 in WT3 and 0.6 multiplier in WT4. So basically adding more resistance in WT4 will asymptotically go towards 60% max resists, but you'll never reach it. That's why resists are useless to stack, adding 50% fire resists for example will only increase your fire resists by a couple percent once you're above 40% already. They should reduce the armor contribution and increase the max resists you can have in WT4 to 80%, so you would have a 0.8 multiplicative penalty on resists instead of 0.6.

      I don't mind the individual resists from other gear, it can compete with armor/DR stat by balancing out the amount you get. You should be able to get decent base resists from jewelry, and then fill up the rest with individual resists from your other gear pieces. Adding all resist on gear is fine as well, but then the rolls should be lower than the individual resist rolls. Or maybe dual resists as a single affix would be a nice addition.

    All sources of Damage Reduction work in combination.
    So Range DR has the same diminishing returns as Resists when you take into consideration all your other sources of damage mitigation (Armor DR, Current Resists e.t.c).
    If your final Combined DR from armor, resists and any other sorts of damage mitigation is x%, then your next increment in DR of any kind, is going to be 1-X effective (multiplied by 1-x).
    In example, your total Combined DR is 90%. If you add 40% Cold Resist, it will increase your Final Cold DR by 2%.
    If you add 20% melee DR instead, your melee DR will go from 0% to 20%, but your Final Melee DR (combined with armor, resist, fortified e.t.c) will rise by the same ammount as in previous case, 2%!
    So any kind of multiplicative DR is as good/bad as resistances are :)
    And Armor is less effective the higher you go in Nightmare Dungeons. Its effectiveness decreases with each level difference, reaching about ~10% effectiveness if monsters are ~50 levels higher.
    So at higher level dungeons, Armor is worse than Resists and other kinds of DR.
    Maybe the best way to rise survivability is by stacking HP? 🤔

    • @Urrarg
      @Urrarg Год назад

      I'd stack HP and Pure DR personally. Pure DR always lowers by that amount when it applies. As everything else starts getting reduced values, pure DR starts to become less affected by diminishing return. 20% Melee DR soaks a lot more damage when armor is only soaking 10% of the damage vs. 80%. The lower your armor % gets, the more pure DR starts to carry your mitigation.

    • @RaydenLGX
      @RaydenLGX Год назад

      @@Urrarg Not yet sure, Melee and Range DR might be better than pure DR.
      20% melee DR and 20% range DR will give you 20% all DR.
      While 10% pure DR on two slots, is going to give you 1 - (1 - 0.1)(1 - 0.1) = 19% All DR.
      They're pretty close. The thing is, you can't roll the same stat twice on single item.
      I'ts pretty complex 🤔
      I think it's best to have all of them xD. Melee DR, Range DR, Pure DR, and then something relevant to your class, like Fortified DR / DR against burning enemies etc.
      Not yet sure how good is HP compared to DR on items.
      And 33% all res in a single roll is equivalent to 10% pure DR.

    • @Urrarg
      @Urrarg Год назад

      I don't mean pure as in only the one that's active all the time. I mean DR that's DR against everything type of damage and doesn't care what enemy levels are. Whether all the time, vs close range, vs burning etc.
      Imo I don't think it's a question of how it compares to health. Health + DR on everything that can health and dr. There's really no reason to chose between them. IF I had to choose I'd probably take health simply because there's other sources of DR and there's not a lot of good options for health.

    • @RaydenLGX
      @RaydenLGX Год назад

      @@Urrarg I agree. Health is pretty good. At 10k HP, 1K health is 10% HP, which is about the same ammount of EHP you'd get from 10% Unconditional Damage Reduction.

    Notice he says the molten explosions or the lightning can kill you and you're not supposed to face tank these things. That's where he's wrong. He dies to those because he has only 23% resistance in fire and lightning damage. Of course, it's diminished returns so you don't want to overdo it but you should get close to 50% with just 2 of each stat. Your rings give you 4 so you only need 6 more plus like 5 paragon nodes out of 200 nodes you can grab 10% all resist it won't hurt your dmg that much. So grab 3 resist on helmet or chest. Get armor/life on the other. I got other 3 resists on boots. You can get like 75% armor and almost 50% resistances at lvl 86 like me probably more at 100. He's got high poison and shadow so he's ok against those. And the crowd controlled dmg reduction covers some ground effects for sure. And the close dmg reduction is huge on top of his armor and that's the major threat is the mob damage. So he is for sure tanky like this but could be better imo. Problem is you don't notice it until you fight higher level mobs. At same level you just shred everything. Once you start killing higher level mobs and you're not shredding those buffed hp and shielded mobs anymore your weaknesses really start to show. If you have no poison resistance or only 23% omg you'll be dead so fast. He's got poison resist he just doesn't realize how much he needs it. Anyways, I could be wrong. Just my opinions from my experience.

  • @D2Mephisto
    @D2Mephisto Год назад +3

    The reason armor is stronger than resist is because it stacks additively with itself, up to the 85% cap. That means armor will ALWAYS be AS STRONG AS IT CAN BE until it literally becomes useless. However, since you need a higher armor value to reduce damage at the same rate vs. a higher lvl monster compared to a lower lvl monster, if you plan to run high nightmare keys (above tier 70 I'd say), you can safely stack AS MUCH ARMOR AS YOU CAN GET and it will still not be too much. Because you simply need *that much* armor in high tier content.
    I fear they will change armor to make it worse, rather than fix resists to make them better. I fear my two Barbarians (one hota at lvl 60, and one ww at lvl 95) will become useless. My favorite class by a mile and I worry so much I'll become a walking joke if they nerf armor. Why? Because even though it is so much better than resists, it's not actually too good on its own merits. Resists just need buffed, armor doesn't really need nerfed.
    So if I can gain more armor (which more and more is needed the higher the level disparity between yourself and the enemy monsters -- for example if running a tier 80+ nightmare key), I will always want to do that instead of get resists. The only resists worth having on gear are the ones you are forced to take: 25%+ all resist on neck, and four single resist rolls split between two ring slots. That's one All Resist roll, and four single resist rolls. Any additional rolls of +resist on any slot for any build or any class is a WASTE because you could instead get armor or something more useful, like main stat (which is its own damage multiplier -- lots of people don't know that it seems).
    BTW, the "armor reduces dmg by 100%" thing is a VISUAL BUG. The cap is 85%, info which came from the devs themselves over a year ago in a dev quarterly blog update.

    • @pxpe7765
      @pxpe7765 Год назад

      How the fuck do they still have a bug they found a year ago?😂

    • @D2Mephisto
      @D2Mephisto Год назад

      @@pxpe7765 It's not really due to a bug. It's really a design flaw. The way resists work is that they all multiply on top of one another. So if you have some resist on your necklace, and some resist on other pieces, each of those separate sources of resistance multiply against one another to come up with a total value at the end. Armor works very differently. Armor has a cap of 85% mitigation against monsters your level. Armor cannot go above that cap. That means that armor stacks additively with itself. So the armor on my chest adds with the armor on all my other pieces like my pants or gloves, and results in a total value at the end that is displayed on the character sheet. If armor worked like resistances, then the armor values wouldn't add together to come up with a sum, they would multiply together to come up with a sum. Let me give you an example. If I have 30% all resist on my neck, any additional resistance source, whether it's in my Paragon tree, or comes from my intellect if I'm a Wizard or Necromancer, or any additional resistance that comes from other gear, all of those will be reduced by 30% when multiplied against the existing 30% on my neck.
      So on one hand you have armor, that is always valuable point for point, until you hit a hard cap where it does nothing after that. Then, on the other hand, you have resistances, that each additional source of resistance is less effective than any previous source of resistance, meaning that you should pretty much just avoid that stat entirely unless you are forced to take it, like the implicit resists on jewelry, or from main stat for Int classes.
      If they change the resist system so that resistance sources added together to one another, but had a hard cap, then they would literally work just the same way as armor and would be fixed. But they will have to design, or redesign. Rather, this entirely new resistance system, which will take some serious development effort and time.

      For druids and barbs it's not really supported by class, and druid and barb get easy unstoppable and fortify.

    They could make this math so much easier to understand and get the same effect from it by just adding different caps. Like in d2 dmg reduction was dr you knew how much you had was actually accurate to how it would function in reality and it just capped at 50% you could stack more but it had no effect. Just weird to see 10% dr from close, then you do math and that 10% is based off of 10% of what you already have or whats left over and you actually get like 5% or something actual dr in functionality.

    • @graog123
      @graog123 Год назад +5

      They did it this way so that your baseline is always the point at which you currently sit. 10% me more DR will always give you 10% less dmg taken RELATIVE to your current dmg taken NOT relative to the total unmitigated damage the monster dealt.
      If you are about to take 500 dmg and just in time you drink a hypothetical 10% DR elixir, you will take 450 dmg. But the monster's hit might have originally been for something like 10,000 if you hadn't also got all this other DR preceding your elixir. So compared to that 10,000 unmitigated damage you are right 50 damage isn't even close to 10%. But you need to adjust your thinking and it begins to make a lot more sense.

    Current understanding of the armor formula is that it actually becomes WORSE than resistance when the enemies are 50 levels above you (pushing tier 100; nightmare dungeons where the enemy lvl is over 150).
