    After watching this video, I prioritized survival stats (% Damage Reduction and % Total Armor, specifically) over even Dexterity and various damage stats on my Twisting Blades Rogue. I got two upgrades: a chest piece with four defensive stats (%DR vs. Close, %DR vs. Distant, %DR, and %Armor) and an amulet with the same stats, except Energy Cost Reduction instead of %DR vs. Distant. Those two pieces, while costing me 1k Attack Power, actually allowed me to jump from doing mid-50s Nightmare Dungeons to high-60s with ease! And it makes perfect sense: since you don't have to race a timer the way you did in D3's Greater Rifts, you will clear any Nightmare Dungeons if you just don't die. In other words: dead rogues deal less damage, even if they burst harder while alive. Thank you for this video, because it got me out of the D3 mindset that I needed to maximize damage on every piece possible; being a glass cannon is not the way to go in D4!

    • @jlandejr

      Not just barb - he makes a good point though, plus that is not only 2 slots that you have to use (pants for Temerity, something else with Conceited aspect) you also lose those stats on pants. With so many good aspects available, I'd use this if I had nothing else to slot in yet

    • @CostelloDamian
      @CostelloDamian Год назад

      @@jlandejr You are right. However with 4 slots for weapons on Barb + amulet you are running out of options for offensive aspects. I think I might start to run defensive/utility aspect on my amulet. Drop the temerity and conceited all together.

  • @emilemil1
    @emilemil1 Год назад +2

    I guess the idea with Temerity is that you can have shit stats on that item but now you don't need max life on any of your other pieces . In addition you basically get permanent barrier so you can rely more on effects that activate when you have a barrier up. Still extremely niche though.

  • @jeanssi3668
    @jeanssi3668 Год назад +2

    Small correction to 2:55 , 45% armor is ofc 55% dmg taken, you messed the number a bit. So disobedience is even better that you say there, dmg taken value goes from 55% -> 18% so at full stacks you take only roughly 1/3rd of the physical damage. Turn it around, it means you gain 66% DR with these specific values, and it's just a one legendary power. With barbarian it's even more since I'm around 60% armor without stacks but with full stacks I'm at 96%. So yeah with my barb physical dmg intake goes from 40% to 4%, meaning it's 90% effective DR against physical dmg... which means it will get nerfed eventually.

  • @cwatz1221

    Im not at level 100 or anything, but temerity seems pretty good if you use the modifier for damage bonus while barriered as an aspect and have an appropriate amount of healing. Temerity is still recommended by most for Tornado druid. I was quite upset about the 2 uniques in that build, because they rob me of my defensive items. I understand it's used there to protect the fortify, but I wonder if it's really needed, more defence with the same amount of healing should be better, already have a few leg pieces for exactly this occasion. Generally I think a lot of the maxroll guides go way too hard on offence for no reason. To use Tornado Druid as an example again: no life on rings, werewolf skill dmg on chest, Stormskill dmg + offensive passives on amulet and no defensive rolls on totem (we can get dmg red.% while fort + ene. poisoned). I have been thinking exactly along what you are saying in your video, but I have to admit that the maxroll guide has shaken my confidence to commit to these defensive stats. Great video.

    • @ECI5858
      @ECI5858 Год назад

      The creator of the maxroll guide on druids also swaps to defensive gear on higher nm dungeons so no need to follow his gearing guide at all times as its more of a general guide. You have to adjust to the situation so once doing nm dungeons 60 and higher i suggest going full on defensive stats and hp wherever you can get it. He also recommends temerity in his guide but swaps to disobedience with DR stats for pants on the higher dungeons.

    Notice he says the molten explosions or the lightning can kill you and you're not supposed to face tank these things. That's where he's wrong. He dies to those because he has only 23% resistance in fire and lightning damage. Of course, it's diminished returns so you don't want to overdo it but you should get close to 50% with just 2 of each stat. Your rings give you 4 so you only need 6 more plus like 5 paragon nodes out of 200 nodes you can grab 10% all resist it won't hurt your dmg that much. So grab 3 resist on helmet or chest. Get armor/life on the other. I got other 3 resists on boots. You can get like 75% armor and almost 50% resistances at lvl 86 like me probably more at 100. He's got high poison and shadow so he's ok against those. And the crowd controlled dmg reduction covers some ground effects for sure. And the close dmg reduction is huge on top of his armor and that's the major threat is the mob damage. So he is for sure tanky like this but could be better imo. Problem is you don't notice it until you fight higher level mobs. At same level you just shred everything. Once you start killing higher level mobs and you're not shredding those buffed hp and shielded mobs anymore your weaknesses really start to show. If you have no poison resistance or only 23% omg you'll be dead so fast. He's got poison resist he just doesn't realize how much he needs it. Anyways, I could be wrong. Just my opinions from my experience.

    I'm on Softcore, but I like building tanky as well. I'm trying to push higher NM dungeons and I'm currently level 89. I'm on console, and for whatever reason they don't allow me to "mouseover" my armor stat to see how much damage reduction I have vs. similarly levelled targets, but I feel like I may have even overbuilt armor. I have 8,546 armor and 9,004 life plus a 35% disobedience. The thing that kills me more than anything else is all the random environmental stuff, much more than anything else. Yes, I know you're not supposed to get hit by it 4Head but I really feel like a large reason why mobs tickle me but every map effect just oneshots me is the fact that half of our defensive layer just is missing. I feel like sigil effects in particular don't count as close or distant and you can't poison them, so they just absolutely obliterate you because of how bad resistances are.
    I've been slowly banking pieces with good resistances to hopefully be able to swap over if they make them actually good at some point and don't then require fresh items to drop. I think itemization will feel a lot better if they make it so that your baseline armor from gear and baseline resistances from jewelry (including using appropriate gems to round it out) will give you an acceptable level of defense for lowish level content, and then if you want to optimize a bit for tankiness - you get something like a single resist roll of each element (at least the ones you're most worried about) on your gear and some flat or close damage reduction. It'd feel much more like you're building something that's well rounded, instead of this weird system of stacking conditional damage reduction and then completely neglecting what the game seems to intend as literally half of your defensive package.

      I dont think anybody really is able to answer the knitty gritty specifics of your question though. More time and testing is required to figure out the calculations being used accross all these different systems.

    I think there insight on resistances was it doesn’t get worst as monsters get higher level so it does the same versus level 100 or 154 monsters. But yeah at that level your only getting 5% armor dr plus resistances which isn’t much so good luck.

    i find the magic nodes where you get control impaired duration reduced very useful doesnt last as long so you dont really have to worry much if you do get CC there also one rare node that gives big percentage worth taking no need to run topaz in every piece allows you to be flexible i only run 2 topaz since my duration is reduced if i do get control impaired those reduction only apply to when your impaired anyway so allows me to run rubies for more health not sure if other classes have these nodes in paragon but the rogue does.

    agree with resists being garbage but I think you're underestimating the value of % life nodes
    you're right that these don't apply to life on gear, but these DO apply to each other multiplicatively meaning there is some pretty crazy compounding effects that can occur when you can get multiple sources of % life from paragon AS WELL as rubies in armour
    my level 100 necro went from 8k life to around 15k with only around 12 paragon points (some also needed to path there) in % life nodes as well as rubies in armour, which feels like way more EHP than I'd get from doing the equivalent in paragon armour + topaz/sapphire in armour

    I'm pretty sure lucky hits works on pets and with barrier being the only dmg reduction that works on pets (also with 6 mages spamming blizzard for lucky hits) it's an exception and an insane one at that for summon necro endgame builds.

    Excellent info. It's actually pretty annoyingly bad how they have implemented resistances to be a dead stat really. There are so many good games to use as examples of how to do it well. They don't need to be like in D2, but somewhere in between would be nice so there is more 'oh i better swap this item out to face this boss'. And they need to put more implicits on jewelry than just dual resist and tri resist. Make resists more important and also make them a choice rather than a forced implicit. There needs to be a better balance between resists, life and armor/DR being important.

    Thankfully I figured out resistances didn't seem to do anything pretty early with my Barb and started stacking damage reductions really hard on my pants (3x damage reductions + % armor)... and soon to be chest. I need to add in some max life rolls next. That feeling when you face tank a butcher that is 10 levels over you... is impressive. Too much over that (15?) and the butcher is a bit too much for my gear. He just CCs you and stomps you into the ground 🤣

    Hey Wudijo, myself and a friend have been doing a lot of testing on armour, and we've noticed two things which are very strange. First is that armour has increasing returns on it (in the sense that the more armour you have the more each point of armour contributes to your DR). Second is that the armour DR cap appears to be 90%, not 85%. The second finding could probably use more testing, but we're 100% confident of the first.

    People need to understand that progression is gated based on survivability, there is no time limit. So build your character to survive and then dial that down as you get better at the game and get better gear.

    i can acknowledge, problem only is the low lvl part of the game some bosses like butcher reall hit fast and so hard you don´t stand a chance. Otherwise i am currently lvl 67 but since lvl 55 or so i really cheezed through world tier 3. But i always thought it´s because of my resistance seems like i was false leaded. Well Armour and max life for the win. Here we go thx for clarifying this.

    • @yGKeKe
      @yGKeKe Год назад

      Apply status effects, use things that give you bonus damage based on that effect. (Burning, poison, chilled, etc.) Also based on your builduse dmg to close or dmg to distance.
      The biggest thing is vulnerable. You need to apply vulnerable to really do damage to anything. This is why melee rogue uses crossbow in ranged slot, crossbow innate affix is + vulnerable damage.
      But yeah, it all boils down to finding ways to apply effects, and then using damage multipliers based on those effects.

    • @None38389
      @None38389 Год назад

      There are 4 brackets of damage stats which are multiplicative with each other: 1.Your main stat(dex for rogue), 2. vulnerable damage, 3. crit, 4. all the other damage stats. In other words vulnerable, crit and dex have higher priority compare to any other damage stats since they are in their own individual brackets while all the other stats are additive. And having tools for consistent vulnerable application is a MUST for any build. If you are not applying vulnerability you are not doing damage.

  • @kudbettinkohen1935
    @kudbettinkohen1935 Год назад

    Multiplicative damage reduction is still as useful. 20% * 20% reduction ends up at 0.64 damage taken which is x1.56 toughness. Definitely not diminishing returns in that sense (1.25 x 1.25 toughness). (Other reasons are valid, just wanted to fix the math)
    Additive damage reduction is actually hyperbolically useful but no one’s expecting that as the standard.
