    Prey Movie Description:
    A skilled Comanche warrior protects her tribe from a highly evolved alien predator that hunts humans for sport, fighting against wilderness, dangerous colonisers and this mysterious creature to keep her people safe.
    Prey is a 2022 American science fiction action film based on the Predator franchise. It is the fifth installment in the franchise and is a prequel to the first four films, being set in the Northern Great Plains in North America in 1719. The film is directed by Dan Trachtenberg and written by Patrick Aison. It stars Amber Midthunder, Dakota Beavers, Michelle Thrush, Stormee Kipp, Julian Black Antelope, Bennett Taylor, and Dane DiLiegro. The story revolves around Naru, a skilled Comanche warrior, protecting her tribe from a humanoid alien that hunts humans for sport, fighting against the wilderness and fur traders to keep her people safe.
    Development of the film began during the production of The Predator (2018), when producer John Davis was approached by Trachtenberg and Aison, with a concept that they had been developing since 2016. In late-2020, the film's title was revealed to be the codename for the fifth installment in the franchise. Filming took place around Calgary during summer 2021, with the entire film shot in English and some sequences show in Comanche as well. The remaining sequences were dubbed into Comanche by the cast, reprising their roles.
    Prey premiered at the San Diego Comic-Con on July 21, 2022, and was released by 20th Century Studios as a Hulu original film in the United States and on Disney+ Star internationally on August 5. The film received positive reviews from critics, with praise for the action sequences, Midthunder's performance, Trachtenberg's direction, and the indigenous casting, with many critics calling it the best Predator installment since the first film.

    In short, predators are trophy hunters with an honor system. They don't want to hunt things that can't fight back, no honor in that. They want to hunt things or beings that can fight back, the bigger the fight the prey gives, the more honor and respect for the predator among his people. Predator 2 and aliens vs predator both explain it better.

    I would love to see the Predator go up against the Aztec civilization. I think that could be fantastic. Maybe open the movie with archaeologists discovering a predator skull in a cenote, then jump back in time and show the fight and how it got there.

    Predators are a warrior race. They're all about honing their skills by fighting against more threatening foes. The more objectives they survive the more updated tech they are rewarded with. There are actually female predators, and only one female human who impressed them so much that they allowed her to be one of them. WE FINALLY HAVE A GENUINELY AMAZING PREDATOR MOVIE SINCE THE FIRST ONE!!!! Don’t get me wrong, I really like Predator 2 and Predators, but this one doesn’t just beat them, it kills them, rips out their skulls and spines, and hangs them on its wall.
    Not only did it have intense action sequences, but both the director and writer managed to perfectly balance that tightrope of tension by both showing that this Predator is a truly terrifying and formidable threat while also not making him OP with his weaponry, thereby giving the people a fighting chance.
    On top of that I absolutely LOVED the portrayal of the Comanche Nation. Showing how they were and still are some of the best fighters, best horse riders and best hunters that have ever lived, while also showing how close knit of a community they are. I really loved how they went back and forth between English and Comanche when speaking with each other, next time I see this movie I’m watching the Comanche Cut where they speak Comanche throughout the whole movie.
    But my favorite part of this movie is seeing the story of Naru. She is honestly one of the most tenacious and badass characters I have seen in action or sci-fi movies in a long time. Amber Midthunder managed to be as much of a badass as freaking Arnold Schwarzenegger!
    And thank god they didn’t kill that adorable dog 🐕!

    Honestly this is my favorite predator movie. The girl was going through an adulthood trial with the hunt. I also think the predator was going through an adulthood trial of sorts. It explains why this predator was sloppy at times and was so triumphant for its kill of the wolf and bear. They showed it collecting trophies along the way, fighting on equal terms. Bear with bare hands, bow/arrow with its own crossbow thing. It even stepped in a bear trap then threw the bear trap at another bro. This movie is fire for sure. I'd like to see one of predator fighting Samurai or Vikings too!

  • @GPBA89
    @GPBA89 Год назад +7

    Each victim the Predator hunted had a means to fight back, which makes the hunt all the more exciting. He started small by hunting the local carnivores, which all have natural weaponry. The rattlesnake had fangs and venom. The wolf had speed, teeth, and aggression. The bear had size, strength, teeth, and claws. For the humans, if they wield weapons such as arrows, guns, bear traps, and are able-bodied, they offer the Predator an engaging hunt. The Predator spared Naru when she was caught in the bear trap because she was immobilized and unable to fight back, which made her a prey item not worth killing.

      The question is..35 years after the original, that's 35 years worth of technology in sound and film, 35 years to think of and come up with a sequel and it's not better than the first? Why is that? I find it a bit odd that many commenters are more familiar with predator legacy than they are with Native American history. Amber Midthunder in no way resembles a Comanche woman of that time period, and her best acting is when she is silent. The dog is the best actor of the film and is a historically correct breed.

  • @nitrokid

    From one AVP novel that I read, the hunting ritual law is to match the quarry, weapon for weapon. So if the quarry (hapless humans) is armed with bows then the Yautja will pick similar weapons. That's why the Predator looked 'primitive'.
    Except when they go to war, then the 'law' would be suspended. Let's say, against the Xenomorphs, then the usual spear and scatterguns are gone, and replaced by plasma casters and laser rifles.

      But Human must kill Monster, it's always the same.
      I would like to see a Movie for a change, in which a Predator is the Protagonist, travelling through space. There are enough storys in the books. Screw them weak humans xD.
      But we will never get a Movie like that.
      Does that make me woke now? Idon't know man

    Dope reaction as always bro. I mentioned this before, but one thing I loved about this film is the way in which this Predator killed his prey. He usually used methods similar to those used against him. The snake killed his prey with its fangs. So the Predator killed it with his two-pronged blade. He got down on all fours to kill the wolf. He only wrestled and killed the bear with his bare hands. The soldier threw a net at him, so he killed him using his own net weapon. If they attacked him with arrows, he used arrows. And so on.. I'm not sure if that was intentional or not but it seemed his way of proving he was the better warrior.

    So history teacher moment so European settlers during the time period would over hunt certain animals for their pelts because certain things were “in fashion” in the early European settlements in North America and certain European counties. Like the buffalo and beaver who had highs and lows on population because of the fashion. Like beaver hats were a big thing for a whole and showed status in some places. Of course there’s a lot more detail but that’s probably why the French traders killed all the buffalo and only took the pelts

    Predators want to be the ultimate predators...so they study how other beings hunt their prey. Then they clone what they learn...like the arrows. We see it study the weapons then shoot arrows. Cleared the flesh from the wolf skull then we see it's mask is skull like. They do this in all the movies and I love it...the continuity of it is fantastic!

  • @ItsAVolcano

    For me the biggest issues were two key historical innacuracies.
    The Commanche were noted first and foremost for their horse-riding skills (second for their archery). They were excellent at navigating the plains, not forests. Most of the tribes fights with the Predator should have been like Taabe's.
    Second is the random ass choice of making a bunch of French trappers secondary antagonists. The French tended to get along well with the Commanche and were often many tribes only trading partners, mostly since as they weren't really looking to establish anything beyond fur trade stations the isolationist Commanche were often more willing to deal with them. This particularly bugged me because if you wanted to give some hostile white men for Naru and her people to fight there's hardly a shortage of hostile European/Colonial groups to choose from.

    • @susanmaggiora4800
      @susanmaggiora4800 2 года назад +3

      The French trappers were really the only guys out that far, that early. I agree about the rest though. When I first saw this, I felt the French trappers were portrayed in a way that seemed pretty counterintuitive to good relations among the tribes, something they’d need when they’re hundreds, or thousands of miles from any towns & are solely out there to trap beaver pelts & trade with the indigenous people.

    • @MissMusicForYou
      @MissMusicForYou 2 года назад +6

      Second point, you're ignoring the fact that contextually the French are hyper-focused on the Predator. Even if they tended to get along with Comanche, it's not surprising or shocking that they would switch up with the possibility of capturing/killing that.

    • @TheRetroManRandySavage
      @TheRetroManRandySavage 2 года назад

      The French was the main fur trappers during this period. So them being depicted here is historically accurate. So I wouldn't let it "bug" you too much.
      The British only took over the fur trapping after the seven years war.

    • @ItsAVolcano
      @ItsAVolcano 2 года назад +2

      @@TheRetroManRandySavage but this movie takes place only a decade or two after the Commanche Wars kicked off (based off the age of the pistol). Make the trappers a Spanish force and it makes perfect sense, and would give the bonus of the Predator taking out some conquistadors; hell even a group of errant British colonists would work better.

    • @TheRetroManRandySavage
      @TheRetroManRandySavage 2 года назад

      @@ItsAVolcano but this is set around 1719, isn't it?
      The French had the monopoly on fur trapping at this point. It would be another 30/40 years before the British took the place of the french as the main fur trappers. It would make no sense to have the Spanish or British as the "evil whiteman antagonist" at this time.
      They obviously did their research on the subject.

    I think this shows that people actually don't hate women led films, they hate bad writing and/or acting and production. Prey 2022 hit the mark decently on all of it: heroine's gradual coming-of-age, her failures and learning from it, her believable character development, good side characters, great cinematography and script. Any man (or woman) hating on it is just doing is for clout or simply is a born woman-hater.

    The reason I think people don’t have an issue with this Predator and the female lead is because she’s not a Mary Sue. She’s trained all her life to hunt and fight. In the first movie, all their tech did nothing, Arnold had to resort to guerilla tactics and primitive weapons/fighting to win. The main character is well trained and very intelligent. She takes the predator out the same way Arnold did, by outsmarting it and using primitive methods to nullify its technology.
    It was a really good movie. I can’t say anything ever tops the original, but this is up there with it.
