YES!! Navajo here. One of my earliest memories is watching this movie with my dad and him being like, "Don't tell Mom I let you watch this." LOL! 😂 Good times.
I have been wanting something like this for years, they did do three stories one set in ancient Africa, one where it was set in modern time but the character was an indeginous American male and was set in pre colonial Australia. So the Prey storyline isn't new. Naru is the new Ripley in my books. She has that vibe.
I love Native American history and culture, being Eastern European my self. But in this movie, I kind of could not feel truth of Native Americans. For me it was acted, not natural, like in Gibson's Apocalypto. Maybe that movie was misleading, I don't know. However, this movie was very well made and I liked it.
I think the only disappointing thing about this movie is that we don’t get to watch it on the big screen in a movie theatre. This movie would look amazing in IMAX!
Amber Midthunder and Dakota Beavers CRUSHED this film. Had a fantastic time with it, and I hope to see this style of "historic setting vs Predator" moving forward (especially when a setting is done with so much love).
On the story of masculinity throughout the films issue it also gets to masculinity in Taabe, where the traditional bad ass form of masculinity can be openly loving and supportive without suffering any sort of social bullying. He doesn't have to be hard and unemotional. He can love his mom and his sister without any sort of mask or "aw no don't be like that" "you'll never be able to do it" when in front of his boys sort of behavior. That's progress, too, IMO.
I really like that insight, and I agree 100%. Taabe really is a phenomenal model of a male character who's supportive and emotionally open, yet sacrifices none of his masculinity.
@@cbp117 "ultra Feminism propaganda" LOL It's so damned funny how even the barest concept of simple equality between genders enrages these oh-so-fragile male egos.
@@RobinHood3000 yeah! I saw some interviews with Dakota beavers, and he said that he really wanted taabe to be someone that supports his sister in any way he can. And the one time he does put her down, you can tell that its because he was terrified since he had to carry his unconscious little sister back home after she almost died in a mountain lion, not because he really thinks she couldn't do it
@@beppo2814 Not necessarily. Given this film's love of the source material, there are a lot of details to consider that have far more interesting possibilities. The comics had the origin of the pistol coming from a story about a pirate crew stranded on an island where the Predator hunted them. The crew mutinied against the captain, so he fought them off being aided by the predator, but was shot in the back before the two of them turned on one another. The pistol was a gift to that predator, who was the same Elder who gives it to Harrigan in _Predator 2._ While _Prey_ established a different origin for the pistol here, it's entirely possible that it's given to one of the Predators as a gift in lieu of a direct trophy, in the same way it's done later on in _Predator 2._ That seems even more likely with the tease of multiple ships arriving in the credit sequence, given what the other films have shown about them, but also in how _Prey_ established the tension between the French & Comanche, despite both being humans. While the regular Predators are fairly often shown to be amenable towards temporary cooperation with humans against a mutual threat like in _AvP_ or _The Predator_ not all of them are. _Predators_ made it clear that the larger Super Predators hunt the regular Predators, and even the crucified Predator in that film is used in a very similar way to how the French used Naru & her brother in _Prey._ The Feral Predator in _Prey_ is physiologically different from either type we've seen before but seems significantly more like the Super Predators. Given the type of hunters that they are, it seems like they'd be the type to send down the Feral to hunt on more primitive worlds, and only come down en masse if there was something capable of killing the Feral. That's precisely what looks to be happening at the end of the film. Given that the motif and theme of _Prey_ is centered around "hunting something hunting you" and the end of the film having Naru move the tribe to higher and more defensible ground, it seems focused on expanding the circumstances they're faced with. Since she received the pistol by temporarily trusting the French translator, and also needed the Predators' own technology to win, she's in a prime position to act as a way to understand the same dynamic in the Predator castes. Just like the Frenchman explaining the pistol, she needs a Predator to be able to understand how to use their weaponry, especially after moments like the spear collapsing shut preventing her from attacking with it means she can't rely on it without that. There's no way for them to hold out against hunters equipped to kill other Predators, and looking to hunt something capable of killing one. The Predators in _AvP_ were also established as working with tribal humans to build the ancient temples, so there's also precedent to follow for that as well. Assuming that the Comanche do strike an alliance with a Predator against that larger threat, her giving up the pistol as a sign of trust seems like a natural one to establish that bond or as a show of respect in a way that would add appropriate weight and context to that gesture in _Predator 2._ It would also follow the same elements of alliance and threat of invasion that _The Predator_ was going for, but within a far more contained incident, where that particular predator being an Elder could be the whole reason that a heavier focus never got directed back towards Earth until much later.
This movie did something the other predator films didn't, hearing her war cry at the end there tears me up every time I see the scene because I felt the sacrifices she had to make to get that victory. And I say that as someone who doesn't tear up when it comers to movies. If you've worked hard at something in your life against all odds when it felt hopeless and then you finally get to that moment where it pays off, then you can relate to her in that moment. I wouldn't say it's better than predator 1 only because that movie was the introduction to predator and it's hard to top the feeling you get seeing that for the first time. That said, I would put this on par with predator one
there was a lot loaded in that war cry. if she hadn't stayed true to what she believed, and continued to train, she would not have survived that encounter. The OG predator is my favorite, however I do think this is a better film.
@@Kevinschart I was blown away by this movie. It was everything I never knew I wanted. It's difficult to compare them because they both have very different tones. This felt like I was watching a period piece drama at times & yet it also didn't feel like the Pred was just thrown in either. It all worked so beautifully. I only wish I could've seen it on the big screen.
@@d3l3tes00n I still think they should do a limited release, they don't even have to do marketing because word of mouth has taken care of that. I'd go see it again and I'm sure there are ppl who don't have Hulu who would go to see it at the theatre.
@@harvestcanada But that was only a scene not a whole movie. Also I think we can keep the currents canon (all thw Predator films) including the AvP films and have a new Aliens vs Predators film. Just call it “Predators vs Aliens”
This film was a really good exercise in "less is more". It's a shorter leaner film with good pacing and efficient storytelling. I like that they were careful in setting up Naru's takedown of the Predator. They made sure to put in the necessary experiences Naru needed to formulate her plan - so that when she does take him down her victory feels earned.
The Predator went full John Wick on the trappers - the Predator is a hunter and probably saw the trappers as heretics without honour. There was rage and disgust in how the Predator fought and killed the trappers - throwing things and throwing them around. This contrasts the Predator’s fight with the First Nation hunters where the Predator fought them one on one. Great film
I agree that he was no fan of the trappers. The Predator species is one of honor. That is why they don't kill someone unarmed, pregnant or vulnerable. To have found the skinned buffalo and realizing it was them that killed them totally pissed him off!
The usage of time in this movie is great, too. From late evening when they find the wounded tribe member to sundown when they get the stretcher built and start taking him back. Other movies would have just cut and had the same lighting when coming back
Her war cry at the end was so full of emotion and hits hard. Such a badass moment. Love this movie. Imo, it’s easily the best predator film including the first. I’ve never cared more for a protagonist in a predator film than for Naru as well as Taabe and Sarii. The score and sound design is amazing too
Hector, you’re literally the first people I’ve ever heard say they like The Predator from Shane Black let alone your favorite. I’m actually shocked about that.
The Gun is from Predator 2.: Also I appreciate how even with the original - the movie showed that physical strength was not the deciding factor. The Predator went through the Seals like a hurricane. It was skill, embracing nature, observation and intelligence that won the day. Same with this movie.
I don't remember the exact line but the" I survive" line was such goosebumps because as first nations people that all were still doing is just trying to survive
"Dude, can you imagine being mauled by a mountain lion?, I've played Grand Theft, that sucks" this comment made me spit coke out my nose I was laughing so much, thanks.
Prey was my first Predator movie. I would have paid money to see it in theatres (in fact, I thought it was coming out in theatres until I saw it on Hulu). I enjoyed the movie so much that I went back and binged the original and most of the others in the franchise (I also really enjoyed the original and Alien vs. Predator).
Happy to hear Hector call out the score. Big fan of Sarah Schachner, she’s done some great video games. Love seeing her get some more exposure in a big movie
After watching the movie I was fancasting Amber Midthunder as Kushala the Spirit Rider and Dakota Beavers as Jason Strongbow aka American Eagle into the MCU
First; As soon as the dog came on, I googled if he died or not. I'm too old for that shit anymore. Second; I smoke (don't do it). Just inhaled when Hector made the comparison of being attacked in gta by a mountain lion. I think I coughed up a lung. Great reactions. Thanks!
Can we take a moment to appreciate how stylish the Predator is in this? The one strike on the wolf, flipping hatchets and traps before using them, awesome stuff.
The dog was my biggest stressor in this movie! I’m former military with combat experience and a former government counter-terrorist…what I love about Naru is that she, more than the men warriors, observes, learns and adapts…fight smarter, not harder…great reaction!
What a phenomenal movie this is. Straight-up, this is my first Predator movie that I saw from beginning to end. I've only seen clips and scenes from the other films, but never watched one in full. This movie was so good that I'd like to see more Predator movies in this style. Imagine a Predator movie in Japan with the samurai or one in the French Revolution. Those would be dope. Yes, the CGI is a bit much, especially the bear, but I thought it was okay. Naru? Badass. The dog, Sarii? Goat-tier. The Feral Predator? SAVAGE! The fact that we finally saw the gun Danny Glover got at the end of Predator 2 was noice! Also, Amber Midthunder is a superstar in the making. I'm telling you right now. Dakota Beavers, in his first film role, is amazing. I hope to see more of him in the future. Damn, what a great movie. Also, awesome that Dan Trachtenberg shouted y'all out. Quite badass.
Watching predators fight humans in ancient parts of history is waaaay more fascinating than just watching them fight dudes with guns. After Predator 1987 with Arnie, they didn't need to do Predator vs dudes with guns. They should do a follow up with a Predator against Knights, Samurais, or have one be a gladiatorial champion in the Roman Collesium, that would be awesome. So instead of sending gladiators to fight a lion or a tiger, the beast could be a predator. Would be an awesome film.
I have never seen a predator movie in it's entirety, or maybe I have when I was too young.. but i was aware of the Predator.. i knew other movies sucked.. original was too old for me to watch.. and this movie just became my FAVOURITE Predator movie ever... i was rooting for her.. i was with her... Predator didn't disappoint.. i was scared he was gonna win.. coz I had no idea how other movies end.. I just know... Predator is suppose to be the BIGGEST BADDEST KILLER ever.
Yours was one of the reactions I was most looking forward to. This is just a masterpiece of setup and payoff. Everything in that final confrontation was set up by the film taking its time to establish things.

Best thing about this Movie... They got the Female Hero right... She won using her skills not sugar coating it. Best Predator Movie hands down. Loved it.
This was the best Predator movie and legit should've been released in theaters which I guarantee it would've been a big box office hit if it was released in theaters. After this movie, I cannot wait to see more of Amber Midthunder and the cast in other future projects someday.
This was a totally unexpected reaction. Glad you guys really enjoyed the film. I enjoy this for different reasons on the same level as predator 2. But i highly appreciate how they went back to simple storytelling without blowing it out of proportion. This was a success and hope they do similar period pieces.
That comment you mentioned in the beginning, where someone said the Predator would kill her immediately because she’s just a Native American woman…that’s exactly how she ended up surviving so long to learn enough to be able to defeat it. It underestimated her as a threat. And she used that to her advantage. Edit: I commented before I got through all of your commentary, and I love your discussion on how the Predator films showcase different times of masculinity in different points and contexts of American recent history, and how this adds something different. Very interesting, and I agree wholeheartedly.
Loved the film. As a long time fan of Predator I love the tease of the pistol from Predator 2 showing up. Cool to think of how it got passed around from warrior to warrior.
Fun fact: the flintlock pistol she gives to the tribe leader is actually the same one given the Danny Glover in Predator 2 at the end of the movie. They both say “Raphael Adolini, 1715.” Probably just an Easter egg but definitely really cool
this was such a breath of fresh air for the franchise. there are different classes and subclasses of the Predator species (Yautja). this is a Feral Predator. they preferred the fight more than anything, minimum tech, and weapons. Predators also evolve depending on their prey, and where theyve hunted. so since this is the 1800th century its safe to say theyve been to earth before this. thats why in Predator (1987) we get a hunter Predator with a evolved tech and weaponary. this Predator could also be a subclass called young bloods, untested, fairly new to the whole hunt. lastly when Tabai bests the predator and it cloaks what he yells in the dubbed version is, "Cheater.." so glad yall reacted to this!!!
Guaranteed that this Predator was a Young Blood, but he does have at least some experience. Considering he's hunting solo, maybe this is his Blooding hunt. Love that you mentioned the "Cheater" part. When he got overwhelmed by Tabbe, he either should have ran off to heal, or engaged from the front. He probably had a Clan Leader watching and got chewed the fuck out for stabbing Tabbe in the back.
This and the first Predator are my favorites. My fiance is Native American and she really appreciated how the Native American characters were presented. It was also just a good movie in general.
The unforgettable "Old Painless" scene is the reason I like the original more. I loved the design of the Predator and the way she paid attention to every move he made. Great reaction!
Certainly, an emerging touchstone of this generation. Satisfying to many for its action and callbacks to Predator and its Universe. Can't help but think of other callbacks to old-time sci-fi and westerns such as John Ford's cinematically and influential The Searchers (1956, it too Comanche themed). Prey is also one rare film for how it portrays Indigenous People. Thanks to all of you for taking the time to react and appreciate the movie.
For anyone that may be looking for more of this kind of period piece, PREDATOR: DARK AGES is a high quality fan film, a solid 30 minuets of a Templar vs Predator.
This was the best Predator movie ever. No cap. The overall concept, the score, the cinematography, the acting, and the fight scenes, were all so original, that I don't think any other Predator movie can touch it. Lots of callbacks to the previous Predator movies as well. And the best part is they made the fiercest warrior a female. I think that was a gutsy and much-needed twist to the Predator series. And the doggo lived !!!!!!
The woman's tomahawk on a rope is a variation of the medieval Okinawan weapon: the kusarigama, a kama (or small scythe originally used for farming) with a length of chain attached to the base of the handle. The other end of the chain ended in a weighted ball. It was used to either entangle the sword blade or arms of an attacker. The kama would then be used to attack. Another variation would be to throw the kama (like the woman does) while holding the chain... not looking to impale the opponent, but to possibly cut/slice them from a distance.
I wasn't aware of this as I'm not a hardcore Predator lore guy, but someone in the comments mentioned that the plasma cannon is an "earned upgrade option" as the Predators are going through their training and trials to become better hunters.
Dan Trachtenberg crushed this movie! Have been watching him from back in the Totally Rad Show days and to seem him crush this movie, Super proud of him.
This movie is the Rouge One of the Predator franchise. Only way for me to describe how it's the best movie clearly but like predator 1, empire strikes back has that nostalgic aspect that makes it the best. I mean it's empire, but Rouge One is clearly the better film to me. That's how I feel with this film. I love it more then predator 1, but the first one is so iconic and nostalgic, I have a hard time saying it's better then the original haha Idk if that makes sense but it does to me 🤣
omg I have so much to say. I am all in when it comes to the Aliens and Predators. Not only is this now my favorite Predator movie, but it's also one of the best movies I've seen in a very long time. It felt like a breath of fresh air and got me very excited about these actors and their *potentiality*. Also, props to Hector and his essence of Tennessee accent. "Never in mah lahf" have I laughed so hard. Thanks guys for this incredible surprise!
I knew the Predator had to go when he killed the wolf. You don't touch my clan and think I want you to live! 😂And I knew it was the traders right away when I saw the buffalo, just knowing their history and how they treated the buffalo of the Plains, it wasn't surprising. This movie still moves me to tears with the Native representation. From how Naru is introduced and the family life with the tribe, I lost it when I saw a woman tanning hide in the background. And hearing the traditional language, woo! Brought me to tears. This movie was so well done and it showed so much respect to the Native people that has sorely been lacking with this type of depiction. But it's an epic Predator movie and still makes me heart race every time I watch it, and the score is absolutely gorgeous. The dog was a huge high light and it's amazing that this was her first performance in a movie. Just an instant iconic movie and have been looking forward to your reactions put on RUclips! Mussi cho guys!
As someone carrying much Choctaw blood and an acute knowledge of our history (learned independently, not from US schools of course), I was right with you when they showed the skinned tȟatȟáŋka. I turned to my wife and I said "That's not the Predator, that's f*cking trappers". Those shots hardcore pissed me off - as did most of the scenes with those filthy bastards. I was so glad when they got their comeuppance! We watched the film in the Comanche version with subtitles, and even though most of the native language was looped in and it often wasn't the actors speaking it, just hearing it provided a much more real and immersive experience. Also, I loved your good-hearted go at it...so it's spelled mahsi cho 😊
@@toddjordan2198 I was glad too when it was their time with the Predator and then the camp fight with Naru was incredibly done. I haven't watched in Comanche but I know it's going to hit differently just hearing a traditional language done with respect in a film. I'm Northern Tutchone from Yukon, Canada. That's actually how we spell it here. There are other dialects in the Yukon that spell it "Massi" but it's really incredible to learn that we have the same "thank you" and come from different Nations. Just goes to show we are still connected on Turtle Island ❤
I came to the conclusion that whoever dislikes this movie can't be my friend. :P I was around 9 when my dad bought our first VCR as a present to me and my brother, and Predator was one of the first movies I ever rented, back in the summer of 1990. Predators was ok as was Predator 2 but as Aaron Ramsey would say "Finally some good fªcking Predator."
I'm with Hector; I get that not all the movies are amazing-but we can still enjoy that they are an aspect of the greater subject. The Predator might not satisfy everyone, but for some people, it brought them into the franchise. Same will be for Prey. My favorite is Predator 2, which is very flawed but just works for me in a gratuitous violence kind of way. The human storyline ran by-then with-the Predator's and it just worked.
Just got done watching both Predator & Prey. I appreciate Predator but wasn't the biggest fan of it. Prey on the other hand was incredible. Definitely one of my favorite movies of the year!
I loved this frickin' movie!! I watched it like 3 times that weekend it dropped. I literally was bawling my eyes out at the end of the movie. I just felt so proud of Naru. And Saree...one of the best film dogs EVER!! ❤️
Prey is up there with the original Predator and Predator 2! The three together make the perfect Predator Trilogy! The flintlock call back at the end closed the loop for the three movies: the original, the sequel and the prequel amazingly well.
This movie is awesome. The two leads, Amber Midthunder and Dakota Beavers (great names) were so good, I'm excited to see what this does for their careers going forward. The cinematography was gorgeous, the sound design and music was great and the visual effects were on point. I can't see any negatives.
The working fan theory is that Feral (this predator) is a member of Grey back's (the elder from Predator 2) clan. He has subspecies on his ship in predator 2. (That yautja'e name is Scout)and the gun that french man gave to Naru is the same one from the end of Predator 2 that Greyback gave to Harrigan. You take all that plus the fact that the end credits shows more Yautja ships coming back and you can infer it was probably Greyback coming to collect Feral's body and Naru probably exchanged the gun with him or some other similar situation which would lead to him having it to give to Harrigan
Super Late. But, for everyone wondering how she beat a Predator without tech, refer to what the brother said about her injuring the lion. Then the brother was able to beat the injured lion. The brother then delt a lot of damage to the predator before the final battle with the sister. It was a great movie. It's number 2 on my Predator movie list after the original.
I haven't watched the English version yet. I found that the Comanche version was really immersive. I really enjoyed the movie that way. Definitely one of my favourite predator movies now.
I also watched it in Comanche in the first viewing, and I think it's really cool that it's available. There's only like 20 or less people left that speak it fluently.
Definitely really enjoyed the movie, can’t go wrong just seeing the Predator beat the snot out of natives, fur trappers, a Grizzly Bear n other animals, can’t wait for the next one
@Heroes Reforged Just a little tidbit, the French Guy that taught Naru to fire the Gun, that was Raphael Adolini and he gave his Gun to Naru. The SAME! Gun that the Elder Predator (Greyback) gave to Mike Harrigan (Danny Glover) at the End of Predator 2.
So, the flintlock’s origin is now different from the comic. Greyback now either got it as a trophy from this tribe or via a different path. I hope that gets explored in a sequel to this.
I loved it, I loved that it brought up Easter eggs from previous predator movies. Like the gun the guy gave her and showed her, which is the same guy that was given to Danny Glovers character in predator 2 when he defeated that one and the other came in to get his body. Then the predator gave him that same guy as a reward for defeating his comrade.
If we get a Samurai-era Predator movie, I can only image the cinematography they can achieve. I almost see the final battle between our hero (a Ronin maybe? trying to reclaim his honour?) and the Predator. A super wide shot, the two characters in silhouette, heavy rain, booming thunder, with an incredible score in the background. I guess basically just fuse Ghost of Tsushima with Predator and we've hot a hit!
That could work really damn well! Also a Nordic setting too - maybe make it like a sort of a very loose "Beowulf"-inspired story (with the Predator as Grendel or smt). They need to fully adopt the Assassin's Creed type of jumping through different eras - there's so much potential for different stories and settings.
@@thevoidbringer8925 Hell yeah! I would love one set in the Nordic era. Would be so interesting if they find a way to tie it into the mythology, at least from the characters' perspectives - thinking it's some sort of test from the Gods, but in truth it's just an alien hunter.
You guys are great! This is my first time finding you, I love Prey so much I'm watching almost any reactor that pops up. This film is AS good as the first film, and BETTER as far as character-driven drama, vs. the first one being Arnold-80s-action-sci-fi. Personally they could have replaced the Predator with any other supernatural or extra-terrestrial creature for Naru to fight and the story would've been just as good - it's like they took the idea of making a Predator sequel, but someone really fucking cared about telling a good story, and doing it right. And this film is historic: the first ever to be available entirely in the Comanche language. I've watched it four times so far, always in Comanche - I recommend it; it is actually more immersive that seeing them speaking modern American English. The entire cast came back and dubbed all their lines in Comanche for it. On top of all that, the film addresses both gender roles (that shot of her walking the opposite way as every other woman in her tribe) and colonialism (it wasn't the Predator who killed all those buffalo, but Europeans), while never feeling preachy, and delivering on powerful action and powerful drama. My favorite film of 2022 and the last few years. It SUCKS it didn't get a theatrical release! I want to see it with an audience on a big screen. With how well it's doing I'm holding out hope that 20th will give it a limited release. Thanks guys for your take, I'm going to subscribe to your Patreon so I can see your full length reaction of this.
WE FINALLY HAVE A GENUINELY AMAZING PREDATOR MOVIE SINCE THE FIRST ONE!!!! Don’t get me wrong, I really like Predator 2 and Predators, but this one doesn’t just beat them, it kills them, rips out their skulls and spines, and hangs them on its wall. Not only did it have intense action sequences, but both the director and writer managed to perfectly balance that tightrope of tension by both showing that this Predator is a truly terrifying and formidable threat while also not making him OP with his weaponry, thereby giving the people a fighting chance. On top of that I absolutely LOVED the portrayal of the Comanche Nation. Showing how they were and still are some of the best fighters, best horse riders and best hunters that have ever lived, while also showing how close knit of a community they are. I really loved how they went back and forth between English and Comanche when speaking with each other, next time I see this movie I’m watching the Comanche Cut where they speak Comanche throughout the whole movie. But my favorite part of this movie is seeing the story of Naru. She is honestly one of the most tenacious and badass characters I have seen in action or sci-fi movies in a long time. Amber Midthunder managed to be as much of a badass as freaking Arnold Schwarzenegger! And thank god they didn’t kill that adorable dog 🐕!
I love how the predator growls. It sounds robotic here because its helmets nose(well, lack of) instead has layered holes, he growls and the sounds gets pushed through that nose area like a speaker almost. When he over pressured the mask, it starts stuttering. Making that robot noise. Well, this is my theory anywas.

Taabe is such a good brother. Love how much he stands up for Naru.

The pistol at the end is the same pistol that is given to Glovers character by the predators at the end of P2.
It's definitely even more tense knowing that that weapon eventually ends up with the Predators later on.
@@PierceArner i knew it was the same gun but i didn't think about how it got back into the hands of the Predators. RIP Naru.
The pistol was a gift to that predator, who was the same Elder who gives it to Harrigan in _Predator 2._
While _Prey_ established a different origin for the pistol here, it's entirely possible that it's given to one of the Predators as a gift in lieu of a direct trophy, in the same way it's done later on in _Predator 2._ That seems even more likely with the tease of multiple ships arriving in the credit sequence, given what the other films have shown about them, but also in how _Prey_ established the tension between the French & Comanche, despite both being humans.
While the regular Predators are fairly often shown to be amenable towards temporary cooperation with humans against a mutual threat like in _AvP_ or _The Predator_ not all of them are. _Predators_ made it clear that the larger Super Predators hunt the regular Predators, and even the crucified Predator in that film is used in a very similar way to how the French used Naru & her brother in _Prey._
The Feral Predator in _Prey_ is physiologically different from either type we've seen before but seems significantly more like the Super Predators.
Assuming that the Comanche do strike an alliance with a Predator against that larger threat, her giving up the pistol as a sign of trust seems like a natural one to establish that bond or as a show of respect in a way that would add appropriate weight and context to that gesture in _Predator 2._
It would also follow the same elements of alliance and threat of invasion that _The Predator_ was going for, but within a far more contained incident, where that particular predator being an Elder could be the whole reason that a heavier focus never got directed back towards Earth until much later.
i dont think its the only gun they made
I guess the “let it breathe” thoughts, it man…. Gimme samurais with this franchise.
Never watched a Predator film. Never thought it was my thing, but watched this tonight after all the praise and loved it. Fantastic movie.
@@angelmom2211 Probably wasn’t impressed with them using their own kind as bait either.
The usage of time in this movie is great, too. From late evening when they find the wounded tribe member to sundown when they get the stretcher built and start taking him back. Other movies would have just cut and had the same lighting when coming back
If I remember correctly they used natural lighting to film everything so the time progression feels even more real than others

Also, Amber Midthunder is a superstar in the making. I'm telling you right now. Dakota Beavers, in his first film role, is amazing. I hope to see more of him in the future.

Not into the Predator until THIS MASTERPIECE!!
Loved the film. As a long time fan of Predator I love the tease of the pistol from Predator 2 showing up. Cool to think of how it got passed around from warrior to warrior.
Seen it twice - the second time, her war cry at the end made me tear up
Fun fact: the flintlock pistol she gives to the tribe leader is actually the same one given the Danny Glover in Predator 2 at the end of the movie.
Predators also evolve depending on their prey, and where theyve hunted. so since this is the 1800th century its safe to say theyve been to earth before this. thats why in Predator (1987) we get a hunter Predator with a evolved tech and weaponary. this Predator could also be a subclass called young bloods, untested, fairly new to the whole hunt.
lastly when Tabai bests the predator and it cloaks what he yells in the dubbed version is, "Cheater.."
so glad yall reacted to this!!!
6:58 I still get chills gearing the Predator clicking sounds
The unforgettable "Old Painless" scene is the reason I like the original more. I loved the design of the Predator and the way she paid attention to every move he made. Great reaction!
The predator had to cloak because he knew Naru’s brother was going to wreck him. That’s saying a lot about Native American warriors.
I don't care about this franchise at all. But this particular entry was awesome. The setting and aesthetics just drew me in way more.
Everything Everywhere All at Once and Prey are my favorite movies of the year. I hope both do well at the Oscar’s.
So damn glad the Predator didn't have the plasma cannon. So much more satisfying for it to do more hand-to-hand fighting.
I wasn't aware of this as I'm not a hardcore Predator lore guy, but someone in the comments mentioned that the plasma cannon is an "earned upgrade option" as the Predators are going through their training and trials to become better hunters.

I'm with Hector; I get that not all the movies are amazing-but we can still enjoy that they are an aspect of the greater subject. The Predator might not satisfy everyone, but for some people, it brought them into the franchise. Same will be for Prey. Prey is up there with the original Predator and Predator 2! The three together make the perfect Predator Trilogy!
The flintlock call back at the end closed the loop for the three movies: the original, the sequel and the prequel amazingly well.

I'm curious about that as well.

Like the gun the guy gave her and showed her, which is the same guy that was given to Danny Glovers character in predator 2 when he defeated that one and the other came in to get his body.
