The guy with the beard who tells Ralphie he’s cutting the line is Jean Shepard. He’s the man who wrote this story. He’s also the narrator in the whole movie as adult Ralphie.

You hear the phrase “you’ll shoot your eye out” so many times in the movie but I swear Santa’s delivery is the funniest of the bunch

For me, meeting Santa Claus with my little sister as a kid wasn't all that scary. He was caring enough. This Santa Claus encounter, on the other hand, is hysterical!

I luv it when Ralphie says to the witch “Don’t bother me. I’m, I’m thinking.” Even after 40 years, I still use that line on occasion. Especially to my wife.
No matter how many times I watch it it’s always funny
I read somewhere the actress portraying the female angry/nasty elf got the part because she acted similarly like she did at 3:33 when she went to audition for the part but time had run out but she put up a big fuss that she was waiting in line too long to just be turned away at the last moment.

I also love that when Ralphie and Randy 1st get into the line. It wasn't the Mall employee dressed as a Elf. It was the guy who told Ralphie where the line started. That Elf was like who cares. 😂 Santa and he staff were assholes this movie is great.

Poor Ian petrella in real life during this scene was terrified of heights/the slide. He even said once that his screaming reaction while going down the slide was genuine.
For me it’s the sadistic lingering smile at 2:06 that gets a laugh every time.

This was a beautifully handcrafted movie. Instant legend when it came out.
A few years ago, I was at the park with my nieces I sat on the top of the slide when my niece started climbing up she was asking me something but I thought this was the perfect: A Christmas Story opportunity. I told her "you'll shoot your eye out kid" and pushed her down with my boot saying ho ho ho and watched her slide down the slide. It was an awesome moment to recreate.

Childhood is when u feel bad for Ralphie, and see the elves and Santa as mean.
Adulthood is when u get why the elves and Santa are annoyed, and feel bad that they're working late on Christmas Eve.
This movie has a bunch of classic scenes, but I think this one is the best. Watching it for the first time as a kid had me feeling all kinds of different emotions 🤣🤣
