It's really nice that we get to see how Sheldon and Mary's relationship got to where it is in TBBT. The first time we saw her there, there were no background stories or anything. We just found out that Sheldon respects and loves her a lot. So it's really nice to see it in this show.
I’m not sure if you know this or not, but the actress that played Mary in TBBT (as well as “Aunt Jackie” on the tv show Roseanne) Laurie Metcalf, is Zoe Perry’s mother; Zoe Perry is the actress that plays “Mary” on Young Sheldon. I wasn’t too sure about Young Sheldon when it premiered but my mother started watching it and a few episodes in she asked me to watch the next episode because the actress that played Mary was familiar to her but she couldn’t place her. So that Thursday I watched it with her, and it took me about half the episode to figure it out because she was so familiar to me too. As soon as I said that’s “Aunt Jackie” from Roseanne, my mother was like “YES! I KNEW I’D SEEN HER BEFORE” and after I googled her real name, I found it was Laurie Metcalf’s daughter Zoe Perry. They are so very alike, same facial expressions, sound the same when they’re mad, it’s like they’re twins and not mother-daughter.
this was back then when Sheldon still thinks he could be accountable for something going wrong. He actually asked "is it me? Did I do something wrong?". What are the odds of that?
@Freja Lindberg It’s like Gilgamesh from Fate. Adorable and benevolent ruler when he was young, dictator supreme when he got older. Then he became changed later on in life and grew wiser.
To be fair, the show definitely holds up that concept with his parents and their ways of raising him. Yes he is a 'genius' and does college work at half the age most enter it but he's still a child. He still makes mistakes and breaks rules and even the dad who doesn't quite understand him does his best to teach at least the child part that breaking rules and doing whatever has consequences and he does his best to teach sheldon that those consequences are things he needs to fess up to.
My Mom and I used to watch this show together and this was her absolute favorite scene on the show. Specifically when he told his Mom that she is the perfect Mom for him♥️. I am only in my 20's and Mom passed away last year💔. I told her a few times that she is and will always be the perfect Mom for me. I only wish I didn't feel this much pain every second of every day 😢. I thought our adventures were just getting started, because I'm just now at the age where I can finally start to understand all her sacrifices. And that is when I lose her💔. I know I am fortunate to have had her, but it just wasn't enough time😢😔
I'm so sorry for your loss, darling. I know there is nothing anyone can say to make you feel better or take away your pain, so I'm sending warm hugs and well wishes your way. I hope it gets easier with each day that passes. Your mom's memory will always live in you and those she touched 🙏🏼🩷
May God provide comfort for you and in your family. I also pray for coming peace in your life as you go through these tough moments in your life. Psalms 34:18, “And the LORD is close to the broken-hearted, and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Matthew 5:4, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” Please always remember that you are not alone in this battle, and Jesus is always there if ever you need someone to lean on. He comforts, and He gives peace. God bless you, and may your mother rest in peace. 💛
In this episode a couple that Sheldon's family knew lost their little girl and Mary was trying to find comfort in working harder for God and it was very hard because she was angry couldn't understand why God would take a child from a loving couple. I've been through that not personally but for someone else I knew and it's hard to understand
Young Sheldon works as a show because the characters are... better. Sheldon being a kid makes his annoyances as an adult more forgiving because he is just a kid here. He acts like a kid. The supporting cast also provide moments like this all the time and it is a lot more homely. Meanwhile, TBBT just has nothing but lauigh tracks and nerd "humour" while the hot girl stands around and Sheldon acts like a narcissitic bad autistic representative.
and it makes so much sense for his character too, He doesnt like things changing or being out of order. So when his mom stops doing the things she usually does, he gets really uncomfortable and tries to fix it. I love how they did the scene
@@generalsheperd5864 What? yes it can. When I go to sleep I have faith that I'll wake up. It doesn't have to happen, I could die in my sleep but I trust that I won't. All faith is is a mix of trust and hope.
I've re-watched this moving scene several times, so impressed by the child playing Sheldon's timing/posture/facial expression as he delivers these lines.
What's cuter is that atheist Sheldon will die and go to Hell where he will suffer in flames for all eternity. Isn't that what Christian's believe/desire?
. "But she NEVER misses church!" For Sheldon, this was the trigger that tells him something is REALLY wrong with mom! "Mom, you didn't say Grace!" He may not believe in God, nor her faith in Him, but he believes firmly in his mom. .
1:06 explains enough about why Georgie has dropped out of high school and is a dad at 17. Sure his decisions have been stupid. But you keep telling a child that they’re a negative thing, don’t be surprised when they actually become that thing. I recall an early episode where Meemaw also predicts Georgie dropping out three years before he actually does. It makes one wonder how different things could have been with some more faith in all of their children and positive reinforcement.
He got molested by a extremely older woman . I don’t think saying he got a girl pregnant at 17 is an accurate portrayal of the situation. Gaslighting him would not have changed him for the better.
This show continues to amaze, shock, dumbfound and confound me. As an agnost this clip has been enlightening. All in all this show is brilliant showing the whole spectrum of religious people, from utter chaos to the most profound.
"The precision of the universe makes it logical to conclude there is a creator." That is a powerful statement!!! Just like we can't prove there is a God and we can't un-prove there is no God! Take it on faith...

This scene always makes me cry. As a parent, all we want is the best for our kids. I get seriously shook when anything happens to a kid because I immediately put myself in the parent's shoes. The loss of a child is something I never wish on even my worst enemy. Children are sacred. I am also moved by Sheldon's concern for his Mom and tenderness with how delicate an issue it was for his Mom. He said exactly the right thing she needed to hear, at exactly the right time. There is such sweetness in him that he just wants to make his Mom whole again. Mary Cooper is a woman of faith period. Without it, I don't think she could cope. Sheldon is an atheist and moral. I love how this is displayed. My boyfriend is an atheist. He is one of the most moral people I know. I love seeing Sheldon recognize that restoring Mary's faith would make his mother whole. He chose a way to do this that so artfully respected his own beliefs and intelligence as well as speaking to her heart, where the problem lay. Well done, mother and son, for bridging the gap between faith and skepticism, the mind and the heart to meet in the middle ❤️ together
1:42 that breaks my heart into pieces as smart as Sheldon is even he can’t understand when somebody’s hurting on the inside and it scares him because he doesn’t understand it. It’s one thing that he can’t wrap his head around the mental battles that people go through he can look it up in a text and answers it scares him not being able to understand it, but he uses his knowledge in science and math to show his own special way of emotion to care and comfort his mother 🥲
This is a powerful scene. I've noticed that people who believe in God do struggle from time to time. People who don't believe in God struggle to maintain that belief all the time. I personally think it's a lot easier to believe and find the inter peace that goes with it, than to constantly battle internally and experience the conflict associated with it. We see this in this scene.
Nah, it's the exact opposite. If I'm having a hard time and I even consider religion, my brain immediately goes nope, that's not possible. Sometimes I wish I could believe, but I'm just not wired like that.
SHELDON COOPER of all people convincing someone that God exists has got to be the funniest and the most wholesome things I think I've ever seen. I never expected this show to have such a serious tone. It doesn't even feel like a spin-off to Big Bang Theory it feels like a dramedy that you'd find on Lifetime.
It sounds funny for you to believe in God, Albert Einstein left the group, do you know why? He is a genius, Nobel Prize winner, and he does believe in God. How poor you are hehe
@@MarkJohnR.Marimon I think what he meant was it sounds funny because Sheldon, an atheist, is the one convincing Mary to have faith in God again, not that believing in God is funny itself.
Sheldon's world was thrown off kilter because his mother was struggling spiritually. Granted he was genuinely worried about her too. I love how he used logic/science to try to get his Christian mom back on track with her faith. Ultimately it was his love for his mother and his love of science that made everything right in his world again. It was a very lovely scene.
He didn't use logic. He repeated the watchmaker analogy which has been thoroughly debunked. He actually used a few logical fallacies including appeal to emotion.
There are moments when music helps with touching the feels. But the moment with Sheldon and Mary's comforting moment, silence is all that it needed to make the feels go deep in the heart.❤
@Freja Lindberg naw it’s because the creator isn’t the “God” that atheists make up in their head. The God in their head is ok with everything they decide to do. That’s the problem.
@Freja Lindberg they are most definately the same thing,at least in principle...because "creator" is used in a sense of and inteligent or self aware presence causeing or at the very least fine tuning it.

Its not that Sheldon doesnt think about other people's feelings, its that Sheldon has a hard time connecting to other people emotionally because he is so smart and has a hard time understanding social cues or other social aspects again due to his heightened intelligence.
These were the very best days of Young Sheldon. The perfect mix of life lessons and humor is perfect. I still love❤ YS, but the earlier episodes were the best.

I wanted to believe but I just could never wrap my head around the current incarnation of the one god. This is really sweet and well written because at first, Sheldon tries to fix the problem with the way that he approaches the world, with logic. If ever he was having an issue, he would need logic to bring him back, which is precisely why he first uses logic with his momma. But seeing that it didn’t work, he switches his approach to emotion, which he knew would help his mom, and did! Very sweet scene, brought tears to my eyes
Sheldon is so young but still understands that his mother needs to have a belief to lead a happy life Using his logical reasoning, he reinstates her belief Beautiful Scene😊
This show has so much more heart than what it’s based on. Sheldon goes through so much character development it makes you wonder where it went in the original series
His dad died when he was just 14. Sheldon doesn't talk about it. But that must mess someone up pretty bad. Let alone a kid like Sheldon. I think his passion to be robot like grew when the emotions he was dealing with became to much to handel
it seemed like he regressed in the original show compared to young sheldon but it was just cause sheldon had been comfortable with his fam growing up while it took a long while to get comfortable outside with people who he cannot just easily trust or have enough real time or exposure to create deep bonds as he had with his family.
My mom just passed away, and this reminds me of my sacrifices we do to each other And how we live our lives, so many painful memories but together were happy. "You're the perfect mom for me"

Sheldon was probably the only one who could help her, because of his complete disbelief in the concept of a creator and his analytical mind, but also the complete faith he has in his mother. Such a beautiful scene.
A child acknowledging the parents that they are the best is the most valuable reward any parents get to hear. For a parent, the opinion and judgement of the world is one side, and the belief of a child in them is another side.

It's really nice that we get to see how Sheldon and Mary's relationship got to where it is in TBBT. The first time we saw her there, there were no background stories or anything. We just found out that Sheldon respects and loves her a lot. So it's really nice to see it in this show.
Not only that, but Mary reads the books Sheldon recommends or sends to her.

In this episode a couple that Sheldon's family knew lost their little girl and Mary was trying to find comfort in working harder for God and it was very hard because she was angry couldn't understand why God would take a child from a loving couple. I've been through that not personally but for someone else I knew and it's hard to understand
Simple answer, cause god likes to k ill little babies.
Same here ❤
Why❓
That's the sweetest thing Sheldon has ever said. I'm tearing up 🥺
Sheldon was probably the only one who could help Mary in this moment. Because of his absolute disbelief in a god. Such a wonderfully written scene.
and it makes so much sense for his character too, He doesnt like things changing or being out of order. So when his mom stops doing the things she usually does, he gets really uncomfortable and tries to fix it. I love how they did the scene
