- In this painting tutorial we show you how to paint your Beast Snagga Ork Boy for Warhammer 40,000 from start to finish. In the video we demonstrate how to paint weathered and chipped white armour, lizard scales and of course 'Orky' green skin. We also teach you how to add some simple weathering techniques that can help bring your miniatures to life. All the techniques demonstrated here can be used on a wide variety of miniatures across a broad spectrum of game systems.

This is slightly obnoxious but is there any news on the paint? I know I’ll have to transfer it into pots because dropper bottles are evil.
We will be having another announcement soon and showing them off too
@@DuncanRhodesDRPA thanks, super excited sorry to pry like that though, great video I’ll probably use it on my kruleboyz
@@michaelspitz9151 No worries, we're happy you're asking about our paints 😊

The Man, the myth, the legend himself on friday afternoon teaching us how to paint amazing minis. Could it be better?
Your fav brewerage and snack with your pets.
maybe two thin coats idk.
There is nothing better than watching Duncan and painting while it's pouring rain outside.
same!
Always was interesting, in Duncans paiting school, does he have a tutorial how to paint necrons Maynarkh dynasty?
@@GrimCrezter I haven't seen one, but I could be wrong.
Friday night painting session with Lord Thin Coats, truly a fine evening!
Duncan Rhodes brought me to painting miniatures even tho i thought i could never hold a brush. Thank you man!
Glad we could help
The craziest part of this video is that Duncan managed to get a copy of the beast snagga box. So jealous :)
We had to buy the frame off E-Bay 😂
@@DuncanRhodesDRPA looks that not even the legend can defeat scalpers
Found one at my local gamespot. They technically had three, but only one was in my country's language, the rest was in english. Not that big a deal, but obviously prefer to have the full codex collection in the same language.
My local store had only one so I managed to grab it
My GW shop weirdly enough has plenty I got 2 boxes a week ago.
There is one thing I wanted to say to you, Duncan for quite a while.
No matter how good other tutorial painters paint, YOU get the explanation part nailed like no one else I know of, thank you for your work :)
Wow, thank you! Our aim is to teach and to give people both the skills and confidence to give it a go 😊
Did not expect this to be so enjoyable. The Bob Ross of mini paninting.
Great tutorial, it's the explination behind the techniques (the WHY) that really makes these....
Glad you like them and thank you
Many thanks from South Korea here. Thank you so much Mr. Rhodes. Thanks to your video I could get back to the warhammer hobby after 7 years. This video really helped me a lot and can't thank you enough. God Bless you!
Just a quick comment to say that I 101% impressed by both your artistic and didactic skills. I newly started out painting miniatures and your videos are worth gold!
I watch a LOT of these painting videos. I'm kind of addicted to them to wind down and get ready for rest. That said, Duncan is one of the strongest painters I watch. His reveals are legendary.
Thank you so much for the kind words 😊
Yes!!! Thank you for this! I love Orks and you always do amazing tutorials!
Can't wait to try out those paints of yours! I'll get some as soon as they arrive in the USA.
Awesome, more info to follow real soon 😊
Just received my boyz in the post as I finish up work for two weeks and now you post this. It's like the stars have aligned. Thanks!
A amazing thing you can do with the hides and pelts is you can use contrast paints on them
Amen
Watching the videos on this channel are a blessing and a curse. I love watching and feeling by the end that 'I can totally do that!' ...Then I try, and it turns out I can't. Oh well, the fun is in the practice. Yet another great tutorial!
Duncan you always give me motivation to paint after I watch one of your videos!
Just got my box today! Great timing as always, Duncan!
I found a very effective way of speed painting these guys as well.
White spray undercoat...... then a mix of 3 Ink Washes, building up carefully.
The ink runs into the recesses, giving natural definition..... the issue is that the ink dries fairly shiny.
after that... apply black on weapons and armour, then highlight with any detail you choose on the armour and weapon systems.
After that, it is all the buckles, belts and straps, which give a great colour balance to the models.
the finishing touches are then a simple dry brush of green and yellow combined to stop the ink finish looking so glossy.
Absolutely incredible paint job. I'm about to start painting a couple of Ork nobs and I hope I can achieve even half this level of finish.
What a magnificent paint job! Love the flesh - I'm using that recipe from now on. Thank you so much!
Love me some Duncan Rhodes 😉
Damn I love these orks. I missed out on the box, but such is life. Glad you were able to get hold of some.
Duncan my man, when will we be seeing this new line of paints?
We'll be posting some information really soon and showing them off too 😊
Thank you Duncan, I've been looking for a greenskin tutorial and this is the colour I was after for some orcs.
getting ready to paint the snikrot box this was a big help
So relaxing
I hope we get to see your take on a Squighog boy, or maybe Boss Skragbad on the great white squig when he's released!
immaculate mate
Thanks for the video, Duncan! I would love to see one for the Squighogs, I'm kinda lost on how to paint them.
I wish gw would tell us how they do that new yellowy skin, I really like it. I think it’s averland sunset and skarsnik green mixed 2:3 but not quite sure. I tried with moot green instead and it’s pretty similar
Yeah it’s a 2:3 mix of averland sunset and skarsnik green, shaded with caliban green and highlighted by adding zandri dust to the base or just use ogryn camo. Check out a channel called infernal brush on twitch he’s an ex eavy metal painter and he’s posted a couple videos using that recipe.
@@ayrton2557 thank you so much! Idk why but I really love that bright skin the snaggas have
@@Jason-gq8fo if you watch the latest ork video that warhammer TV has they do an approximately colour tone to the kommando they paint, hope it serves you
@@zurmanskyplayer9058 yeah i saw that its too green
Incredible! Love the Gorkamorka reference too!
that ork skin looks lovely! defo trying it out!
very good job duncan I hope to see more videos of your painting academy.
Will be using this guide for both Kill Team and Combat Patrol for Orks ^^
It'll work great
Nice to see some Orc action :)
Just getting around to painting my Ork backlog and I'm really liking your use of the new Orruk Flesh paint. I think that's what I'll be going with for my Boyz here on out. Great job!
Incredible! These new Orks are great! Duncan, please could you make a video on painting the tribal patterns on Drukhari vehicles? Cheers!
you did absolutely fantastic!!!!!!!!
Great timing, I decided to do my sacresants in white armour and have been looking for advice on white armour that doesn't look flat
Glad I could help
Watching this then looking at my beast snaggas set , thinking this is going to take a while. It will be worth it though. Awesome video thanks
Games workshop should hire this guy and get him to do their tutorials , he just knows his stuff ,plus he would have a regular income and some level of job security.
I really like your painting style,Is there a tutorial on how to paint a Kill Reg?
Would you ever paint one of Majorkill's minis?
Awh man, this gets me wanting to paint my set, always wanted to see someone do a pale/ white ork style I think it would look cool especially with the beast snaggas
Bit late here but Pete the Wargamer did a fungus orc with AoS that might be the kind of colour palette you're looking for
Is anyone else jealous of Duncan's vocal qualities?
Duncan-Da best! Waaagh!!!
looking very promising. Gonna try this out on my Beast Snagga Ork Boys this weekend. Any ideas for an additional highlight for the ork skin? Maybe Krieg Khaki after Nurgling Green, to make the skin even more pop. I always like to add just one more highlight.
Great tutorial! Now you'll have to explain to all the yoofs What the game Gorkamorka was! :D I can't wait for those Kommando models to come out too.
This question is unrelated to the video. But I was hoping if you could answer on what specific paint/color to use as edge highlight if you are using a really bright silver (think Runefang steel or stormhost silver) as the base coat for a model's armor.
Thanks Duncan! ive been struggling with the dirty white forever! Needed a good technique for when I'm going to start painting a few Deff Dreads :) Cheers!
Glad we could help!
You make this look so easy I will try this out on my Ork's we will see😁
wish i had the time to spend and paint them this well
Cheers Duncan!
I've been having some trouble with painting the lighter colors on my models, such as yellow and white. Kind of looking forward to trying out some of the paints recommended in this video. Love your videos so far!
Amazing! Love your videos!
Thanks so much!
I love the fact that no one has disliked by now
"two thin coats"
So sad I missed the Kickstarter funding period! Hit a financial kick this last month because of Covid. Can’t wait for your full paint release!!!
Any chance of some more Warhammer 40k Ork Videos?
If I wasn't before, now Im certainly glad Duncan is not working under GW anymore.
@duncan any chance theirs a paint close to lamontors glaze in your new paint range ? If their was I’d be your friend for every 🤣
You can try Iyanden yellow and then thin it down with Lahmiam Medium, I think 1:4 or 5 is a decent enough ratio. It's not exactly the same but you can approximate pretty well.
Been struggling to get a good bright yellow recipe for years. Need to try Yriel over Wriathbone sometime. That looks like it doesn't go lumpy quickly.
Its great. Simple and effective
Looks great
Would you be opposed to adding a little bit more to the rust effect by adding some brighter watered down orange to the deeper parts of the metals?
Thanks for the video! Are there any decent orc or ork minis from alternative companies? Due to recent events my enthusiasm for gw products has crashed
I love your tutorials! Just curious, what would happen with the colours if I only had Wraithbone undercoat on hand? Would they be much brighter?
You add 3 layers for your base coats, it should dark a bit harder. Worst come to worse. Just use more Shade and washes
Imagine being confident enough to base coat the teeth before the green skin. Couldn’t have been me ^^
Hey Duncan, love your videos, could you potentially do a guide on painting Tau Vior’la fire warriors?
How did you do the base of the Model ?
Hey duncan, could you do up something like a gray orc skin? something for the DND painters.
need color info on the squiggs...
If you really want the green skin to pop hit it with a bright yellow wash.
Hello thx great job, i see your vidéo tonight, i wait for one month, test after test with my paint, one method for paint orks snagga. The best ;)
Watching You paint is so calming. You should dress like Bob Ross in a future video, that’s the vibe you put off.
What is the thin white line on the base for?
I can’t remember the name of it but is that links sword from Zelda(behind you on the left in the video)? I know that’s not a Hyrule shield though.
That is Aragorns sword, Anduril, from the Lord of the Rings 😊
Looks nothing like the master sword
Looks just like the Flame of the West to me.
Idk the sholder armor i would have left dirty after the first wash. And then just highlight the scratches and edges with a brighter color.
'Ere we go, 'ere we go, 'ere we go!
What color were the nails painted? Did I miss that??
Hi Duncan, is there any particular reason for doing the armor, weapons, and straps before the skin? I remember someone recommending to do the "deepest" parts of the mini first just so you don't accidentally get paint on the raised parts.
Awesome Duncan!! So you still work @ GW or youre all by yourself with the Academy and stuff?
No, we left GW over 18 months ago to be independent and to start the Academy 😊
man Duncan's tan is looking good. two thin coats of Sunscreen?
Why in Mork’s name would you not paint the skin first?
No need. Personally, we like to paint the other parts first as it allows you to be a little messy then you can focus on the important part or main focal point, where you need to be more careful. Saying that, you can always do the skin first if you want. It's neither here nor there. Whatever works best for you 😊
As I say on IG…your paint work is so damn beautiful and inspiring!!
What are you using for a palette? sorry new painter here
Orruk Nipples - Everything you need to know, but have been afraid to ask.

How do i drybush death company with jump packs
Is it just me or does wraithbone look like a tan white when looking at it in the pot or on the color selections when choosing it on a website, but when he is painting it here it looks like its more similar to a corax white of sorts? is this just how it seems to appear on camera or nah? I want to paint a mainly white armored Ork force, but I am not looking for an "eggshell white"
Can you also do a deff dread in goff style? :D awesome videos
must be nice to get a beast snagga box, was listed as sold out as soon as the link went live for me.
We didn't. We ordered the sprue off of E-Bay 😁
@@DuncanRhodesDRPA well played even if you helped the scalpers
Why did you start with the bright wraithbone and yellow on the higher parts instead of the lower parts like skin first?
Personally, I just find it easier to block in those colours first where I can be a little messy then attack something like the skin next where I can be more neat on focus on that important area. There is no right or wrong way, just whatever feels best to you 😊
Why does my wraith bone come out so much more brown? Yours looks so bright white
Hei the paint list on your`e website gets an error for this moddel :)
2 Thin Coats Baby! ✌️😅
Hell yeah!
WAAAAAGGGGGHHHHH!!!!
WAAAAGGGHHHHHH!!!!
Huzzah,, top notch
Apologies for lowering the tone, but with the font, I thought it said ‘beast Shagga’
Hey Duncan bit of a random request but could you please do a start to finish painting guide for the Death korps of krieg 158th regiment colour scheme other channels are not finishing the entire paint job Cheers .
Is the Citadel Paint App out of date? Or is Orruk Flesh a renamed color? I can’t find it.
It's probably out of date tbh. Orruk Flesh is a new colour, I think it came out when the Beast Snaggas were released...
