Great video and nice to see a different technique to mine. It looks like Guy uses something bright like moot green or sybarite green and darkens it with the wash. You can use whatever greens really, depending on preference and style. You could start with a darker green and really build it up with highlights, or use a brighter wash and darken it a lot in the recesses with washes.
I approve. It's not in me to paint a million Orks fast and furious, I did it with Necrons and I'm sore over it still! But I have a few and who doesn't love the green mob?! Warhammer 40k has just too much to like. But I salute my dedicated comrades to the Ork horde. Especially my one friend who is painting 57 boxes....yes BOXES...of the boyz as a new project.
Thanks, Guy. Great videos. I have recently dug out a box of boyz that have been collecting dust for over 10 years, so this has been helpful. A couple of quick n00b questions if you don't mind. 1) Are Vallejo paints any good, would you recommend over Citadel ? 2) Do you use Citadel spray for under coating, or will any old halfords spraycan give you an equal quality finish ? 3) Finally, what are the greens called that you used in this video ? Thanks again !
MuchoRiceGobler 1) yes! 2) u need primer at first but it doesn’t have to be citadel it can be any good plastic primer, but not all are created equal so do your research. For the grey highlight he did tho most rattle can should be fine 3) idk I would like to know too
holy hell, washing and detailing make all the difference! I have no skill with painting but i hop at least i won't be ashamed to play my 500 point force in the future!
Really nice video and I am tempted to buy some orcs to paint them after watching this video. :D Hope orcs get some love from GW anytime soon with new releases... or just any other faction except Primaris!
I love a painting short cut. I'd go one step further on an ork boy and use a green primer so don't even need to paint the skin. Something like Army Painter Green Skin or Goblin Green if you like a lighter skin tone on your boyz. That should knock 2 mins of your painting time!
I’ve had this thought for a while: If anything Orks believe come true, then does that man if say, a space marine squadron runs out of ammo, but just continues to make gun noises, does that mean that the orks will actually get injured. Side note: if ten or so marines just break into a song of ‘another one bites the dust’ then will Orks just die in tune?
no, it's only an ork trait, and it takes many orks believing it at the same time to make it happen, Orks are not aware of it though so they dont "use" it like you would think someone aware of such a trait would use it, it's engineered into their genes so perfectly, it works, but they dont even know it does, if they did the entire galaxy would be destroyed but in order for what you said to work, the orks would have to believe in large numbers that finger guns could kill them, but orks do not believe anything can kill them ever
What grey primer are you using for this application? Thank you for the video. I’ll be painting my first Ork boyz here soon. Looking forward to using this as a base for the mob
1:53 ...yellow for Bad Moons... 6+ layers of Averland Sunset, couple of Golden Yellow, Flash Gitz edge highlighting, month of work, one ork is complete (my personal pain)
Finished getting my first box of boyz painted up with the help of this! I'm no speed painter, but a lot of the tips here were a solid confidence boost. Hoping for advice with the bases though. I have them textured and solid black at the moment. Should I just be trying to go in there with a dry brush of bone or grey?
Hi Midwinter Minis I want to start collecting orks and I want to follow you color scheme but I don't know how to paint all the other types of ork troops like captains, planes, bikes ect. Could you please explain how you paint them in purple and pink that would help a lot. Thanks in advance

(and I'd need to buy new paints) is it worth it?

what type of green paint from citadel do you recommend for ork skin??
Waaagh flesh is what I use
Sorry... BOXES? Man, they should get some sort of award of valour from GW ;)
@@MidwinterMinis Yeah, and one from his local game store. I can't wait to see his pictures of work in progress...
For the grey highlight he did tho most rattle can should be fine 3) idk I would like to know too
@@SeeSebastian Thanks for the reply. Ill take a look at some Vallejo paints then - grab a couple of rattle cans..and I'm off to the races ! ✌
holy hell, washing and detailing make all the difference! I have no skill with painting but i hop at least i won't be ashamed to play my 500 point force in the future!
Really nice video and I am tempted to buy some orcs to paint them after watching this video. :D
Hope orcs get some love from GW anytime soon with new releases... or just any other faction except Primaris!
Thanks Max, yeah, it seems like GW have been giving Orks the cold shoulder in the last few years, apart from the Speed Freeks box, of course!
Now should be an exciting time for you then, at least if you like Snakebite Orks!
Very nice orks!
Thanks Lewis!
Wow thanks I'm just getting into Orks and this helped alot
Impressive! Absolutly impressive
Great vid and in time being near the end of orktober.
I almost missed #orktober! ;)
@@MidwinterMinis saddly I wasn't able to get my orks in time =(
I literally spent six hours painting a grot today, and that was after four hours painting it last night, and I still have a couple things to touch up
he says grab a big dry brush and garb a lil of the paint and work it into the bristles and dry brush the model but what paint does it use
Nice nice! May add some of this method to my current method
If you're an Ork player, chances are you don't have a whole lot of patience in the first place, so here's how you can finish this quickly
What colour green did you use..was it a base colour. Gw layer paints need a couple of coats i feel...cheers guy..fab channel
Thanks Stewart! I used Vallejo Intermediate Green, it covers pretty well on the first coat, even applied quite thin :)
I love a painting short cut. I'd go one step further on an ork boy and use a green primer so don't even need to paint the skin. Something like Army Painter Green Skin or Goblin Green if you like a lighter skin tone on your boyz. That should knock 2 mins of your painting time!
Thank god for this tutorial though, I’ll use this until I’ve got them all painted
How many have you got left?
Midwinter Minis I’ve knocked 30 out, but I’ve got 60 more to go to complete the list
Did you complete the list?
@@Alittlefruitgoesalongway barely, just in time for beast snaggas and thus loads more Orks to paint
Heck yes this is AMAZING!
I’ve had this thought for a while:
If anything Orks believe come true, then does that man if say, a space marine squadron runs out of ammo, but just continues to make gun noises, does that mean that the orks will actually get injured.
Side note: if ten or so marines just break into a song of ‘another one bites the dust’ then will Orks just die in tune?
I mean, that sounds like a better plot than a lot of Black Library novels ;)
imperial officer: if we just go and yell "PEW PEW PEW" the orks somehow get injured. MEN! YELL GUN NOISES AT THE ORKS TO KILL THEM! IT JUST WORKS!!
@@haawkler3241 It'd be kind of like watching the Dune movie.
no, it's only an ork trait, and it takes many orks believing it at the same time to make it happen, Orks are not aware of it though so they dont "use" it like you would think someone aware of such a trait would use it, it's engineered into their genes so perfectly, it works, but they dont even know it does, if they did the entire galaxy would be destroyed
but in order for what you said to work, the orks would have to believe in large numbers that finger guns could kill them, but orks do not believe anything can kill them ever
Sean C it was a joke but ok
Thank you! I have 1/10 of what you have and really want my Waaggh! Battle ready!
What grey primer are you using for this application? Thank you for the video. I’ll be painting my first Ork boyz here soon. Looking forward to using this as a base for the mob
Well guy you’ve finally inspired me to start building an ork army so
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH
1:53 ...yellow for Bad Moons... 6+ layers of Averland Sunset, couple of Golden Yellow, Flash Gitz edge highlighting, month of work, one ork is complete (my personal pain)
Is there a green someone could recommend that is lite like this in gw paints for the green? Orc green seems a bit to dark.
Don't be afraid to branch out into other paint brands if GW aren't producing one you're looking for :)
War boss Green is a great paint form gw for ork
Finished getting my first box of boyz painted up with the help of this! I'm no speed painter, but a lot of the tips here were a solid confidence boost.
Hoping for advice with the bases though. I have them textured and solid black at the moment. Should I just be trying to go in there with a dry brush of bone or grey?
I think 20" spent to paint red eyes are well worth it in this speed paint!
Go for it! :)
Awesome ..... I am still enjoying the Marmite which I rushed out to buy after last weeks MWM video! x
Thanks Jennie!
You should have painted the ork cloaths red! You telling us this is speedpainting than go for the red! Never forget kid's Red ones goes fasta!!
nvm... somebody already complained about it! :D
Maybe I should do a one-take Evil Sunz video and try to break my record? ;)
Hi Midwinter Minis I want to start collecting orks and I want to follow you color scheme but I don't know how to paint all the other types of ork troops like captains, planes, bikes ect. Could you please explain how you paint them in purple and pink that would help a lot. Thanks in advance
I already have a color scheme, but im getting kinda bored doing it and I really wanna do a goff scheme with bright skin. this really makes me wanna do this type of speed painting on them with this skin recipe. just not sure how it will go over with the new work models. (and I'd need to buy new paints)
is it worth it?
Can you clarify what dark wash you applied here? Are we talking about Nuln mixed with agrax? Or would a contrast or speed paint be better? Or a custom mix of something else?
one of these days, I'd love to see how you'd make and paint Lord Arkos, leader of the Alpha Legion Chaos Warband: The Faithless!
Ooo, I've never tried Alpha Legion! Could be cool :)
How is your coverage perfect after a single coat!? You did it in 17 mins, but I swear it takes me 26 mins what with waiting for paint to dry so I can add extra layers for coverage and actually adding the second/third layers
just tried again with this method, painted along exactly how he did in the video and it took me about 3 hours including drying times😢
