Fishing for Snook and Redfish with Live Pinfish and Cut Bait

- In this video, I've put together footage from two separate days of fishing. The first day, I went tarpon fishing in the morning with my brother. After I pulled the hook on one, we decided to switch tactics and target snook since my brother had never caught one before. We used live pinfish and were able to sight fish snook under a mangrove on the beach in clear shallow water. The second day, I was struggling to catch fish so I used pinfish and ladyfish as cut bait along mangroves at high tide for redfish. I casted both baits out at the same time to test which one would get more bites.

Pin fish are in my opinion the most underrated bait
Csmith Fishing You are right I used to use them for 2 years and caught nothing I thought it was because of their spines. Then I went snapper fishing and caught 4 10lbs 2 15lbs and 1 22 lbs red snapper
True bromance in this one, lol! Enjoyed watching him break off and catch fish. That Tarpon story was very depressing... You'll get em
Cool to see sibling dynamics...Me and my Bro are always trying to one up each other 🎣
"we're having a moment.. he knows he's my first" that's hilarious
This video is actually optimal thank you for posting 🔥🔥
Nice to get your brother out there. Hope you guys can stay close for years to come.
Thanks for the video
I dont get to do a lot of fishing. I'm on the east coast of FL. Our waters are nothing like Tampa. But none the less Brent has awesome tips with bait and lines. I really enjoy these vids.
Cameron Fisher Try on the beach with crab knuckles or sand fleas
I live on tampa bay, and for tarpon the BEST bait is cut in half fresh threadfin
Oh yah dead bait works really well but people dont expect it at all. I live in ga and I fish for tarpon in ponds. No one ever thinks about fishing dead bait. Just live shrimp and live mullet. I use dead mullet or pogy on the bottom and I swear I catch 10x more tarpon than anyone I know that uses live.

Pinfish kinda look like Grunts.
Great video!!!!!!
Great video bud. Thank you.
Love your vids
Great vid
Nice man lmk if you ever head my way (Weeki Wachee). Shallow water grouper season about to go off and we are hitting it big this year!
Hi Brent, love your videos and your casting aim is on a snipers level!!! I just recently became the proud owner of a small boat and would like to see a video on trolling motors, I'll be using it for both freshwater and saltwater so I guess I'll get a saltwater one to be able to cover both with no problems. Thinking that probably will go with minnkota brand.
I really like my Minn Kota. I'd highly recommend getting one that has an anchor or spot lock feature, it's so nice
@@SeeYaDude Could not agree more. Spot lock is life changing and well worth the money.
Whoever dislikes any of his vids are going to get skunked for the rest of their fishing trips
Amen!!! Bad ju ju!
Its definitely people who never catch fish lol
One of the best snook I ever caught was on a tiny pin about 1.5” long no joke.
MAN THOSE REDS RUN A LOT SMALLER DOWN IN TAMPA THAN UP HERE IN THE PANHANDLE A 30" RED IS PRETTY STD HERE BUT I KNOW ITS ALL DIFFERENT THE FARTHER S YOU GO😎👍👍
I catch tons of big reds on a big free lined pin fish with the tail cut off
Love all your vids, can you give us any advice on catching tarpon from land in July in Tampa?
Most of the tarpon are cruising up the beaches and hanging in the passes on moving tides. Your best bet would be to look for the schools of fish off the beach and use either live pinfish under a bobber or slowly work swimbaits or twitchbaits in front of the school. Bridges are a good options too
Appreciate it!!
Where are some good spots to fish out here in Tampa if you don't have a kayak or boat? Can't seem to find any good spots other than the skyway and fort DeSoto.
Try the Safety Harbor pier and surrounding park. Lots of redfish, snook and trout over there
@@SeeYaDude You recommend using a DOA CAL setup or cast net for greenbacks? Maybe pickup some shrimp?
Can't go wrong with a DOA or live shrimp. There is often times greenbacks hanging around the pier so I'd recommend bringing a cast net or sabiki, but don't only rely on them being there
You should come fish in bay pines by johns pass
Is this weedon island? Great vid Brent
Nope, this is over by Clearwater
Where do you launch from ....always looking for ya at seminole...
Great video makes me miss my bros.
Any body tried blue gill cut bait for sea fishing for reds? My guess its it would be the same as pinfish, but am not sure.
Gotta use 30 for snook
Sand perch.... Give them a try...
I've noticed they wont eat if the pin is too big.
Totally true. It could get stuck in their throat and kill them.
What's your thoughts on the Bull Bay Stealth Sniper? I've noticed in some of your vids you go with the St.Croix Mojo Inshore as well. What would you recommend? I'm mostly gonna be using it for Kayak fishing. Also what size rod would you recommend for it? Thanks in advance from another local Tampa resident! My 9 year old son and I really enjoy your videos and he's always trying to spot the areas you're at haha. Keep up the great work!
I like my 7' 6" medium stealth sniper more than my 7' 6" medium mojo inshore. However, the 7' 6" medium-light mojo inshore I have is probably still my favorite rod. I have yet to try a 7' 6" medium-light stealth sniper though. You honestly can't go wrong with either. I'd recommend either a 7' or 7' 6" medium-light power rod with a 3000 size reel
@@SeeYaDude thanks for the advice. Before you responded I just left Tampa Fishing Outdoors and went with the Bull Bay Stealth Sniper 7'6" #10-20, Medium Heavy Fast rod. And got the Daiwa Saltist Back Bay LT 4000 reel. Thoughts on that setup? Just missed your response before I purchased.
Why you got the trolling motor and power pole goin ?? Just curious
Any tips for tarpon and inshore fishing
Early morning and evenings off the beaches with live pinfish or greenbacks about 4' under a bobber. Look for schools of tarpon rolling and cast ahead of their path and wait for them to find your bait
Brent Schirmer thanks will do I just got some dry chum to get bait
I wish we can fish one day
💯🔥🔥💪
What size hooks u using?
2/0 circle hooks
Did you see JM’s red??? 👀
It wasn't small
What kind of Costa Del Mar’s are those?
They are the Fantail model
Why did you not just start with 30 pound...?
Honestly thought we could get away with using 20lb for the little snook
Brent Schirmer thats crazy though because i have 20lb on my pole and waiting to catch my first decent size snook. Maybe i should put 30 on lol
What boat are you running?
2019 Sea Hunt BX 22 BR
Where do you get that chum to attract bait fish?!
I buy it from local tackle shops, they sell it in ziploc bags
Brent Schirmer What’s it called?!
sound quality is no muy bueno
Ok I gave this video a "Like", however...
I'll never understand the idea of "catch and release". If those fish that were caught were under-sized, then yes, I get that you have to throw them back. However, if those fish were legal-sized, how come they weren't brought home and cooked up? That seems like a waste of time. I hunt and I fish. My expectation each time I go out for one of these endeavors is to bring food back home. Someone please explain the rationale for "catch and release". Please be rational and respectful. This is a legitimate question. Your tone will reflect your intelligence.
