Tide is a tidal wave, but Hollywood confused everyone by having actors point to a sunami on screen and scream TIDAL WAVE!! It never got sorted out and now we just say tide. There are classes at SPC in Tarpon(or online) that offer advanced understandings of tides, currents, waves, storms...inshore grasses, oysters, estuaries, mangroves, etc.. Some of the stuff i learned truly changed the way i see things. Anyway..this was a great video. Keep it up man you've only just begun
How is it humanly possible for this channel to only be at 13k subs? Brent, your content, videography, and editing is basically TV quality. This channel kicks so much a$$ it should be at 300k subs or more in my opinion. I’ve scene far worse fishing channels with 3 and 4 times the subs, I just don’t get it. Keep putting out the good stuff sir, and thank you!!
Thanks for the great video. I wish I could go out with one you guys and see what exactly you are looking for or at when you say grass flats or oyster bars. I mean I know what they are but knowing what to look for on the map and then finding a good spot when you get out there. I’ll keep watching and try to gain more insight. Trying to put my sons on some fish in the mosquito lagoon area. Thanks Brent.
Man this is amazing. New to fishing and trying to watch everything I can find. But these are exactly the questions I want an answer for after several not that successful experiences . And very clear explanation and well organized content.
And interestingly, your beginner guide and another one from you friend(I forgot his name) helped me to get my first two rods. (Second one for grouper). Very helpful information
In your next "fishing tips video" can you talk about: different lure retrieves/rod placemnet, bait hook placement, things to look for in the water, and boat tips/tricks?
Moved to St. Pete a few years ago, and bought some equipment, but just now trying to learn. So much to learn with saltwater fishing. Want to have fun, but not make it my life.
Good info bud. Basics everyone should know before saltwater fishing. Btw moon revolves around earth, earth revolves around the sun I think is what you were trying to say. Keep em coming.
Lotta good info, Brent! I use the satellite views on the various map sites to ID places to fish here in the Palm Harbor, Dunedin area. How do you ID oyster bars on these maps? How do you differentiate between sand pot holes and oyster bars (since to my untrained eye, they look the same)? Thanks...
It can be tough to differentiate between the two. Since oyster bars mostly occur in shallow water, they are often times lighter in color than pot holes. You can also zoom in and look for solid edges or the structure of the oyster bars. Sand pot holes often look kinda "blended in" with the grass while oyster bars have definitely edges
Just moved down from NJ and all of this is new to me trying to figure it all out seems like a lot so thanks for this! Is that sticker Victory Brewing? Can you get that somewhere down here?
Hey one last question for ya 🤣 Do you think something like a new penny color with a somewhat lighter bottom would do the trick in murky waters, or should I do as darker.
New Penny is right on the border of where I'd switch colors in muddy water. If it's scented, like a Gulp or with Pro-Cure, then it might work. But if not, I'd try something darker
I use this website: tides.mobilegeographics.com/ Just type where in Tampa Bay you are looking to fish and it seems to be very accurate. That's what I've used for years now
Can you explain some of the lingo you're using? For example, what is a grass-flat? What does one look like? I'm from an area that doesn't have salt water fishing so please excuse my ignorance...
There are a lot of different apps and websites you can use to find out what the tides will be doing in your area. I personally use this website: tides.mobilegeographics.com/
Check out tides4fishing.com That site it so informational! You can pick any day and not only get the tide charts, but also tidal coefficient (i.e. How strong the tide is moving), wind, weather, barometric pressure and solunar windows all in one place. It also has a chart that shows you the tidal coefficients for the whole month. So say you are planning a trip to Boca and want to hit the strongest outgoing tide for the month to target tarpon in the pass, it'll give you everything you need to plan your trip for the right day.
In my area on the panhandle the tides really don’t do much. They only change about half a foot according to a chart I saw. Plus I’ve really never noticed a change while fishing. Should I still be concerned and do you think the chart is wrong?
I just researched that and you're right, the tide swings are very small in the panhandle right now. The current moon phase has been causing pretty neutral tide swings lately. Also, I'm assuming it has to do with the fact that the panhandle is pretty much tucked away in the top corner of the Gulf of Mexico, which already doesn't have much tidal swing because of it relatively small surface area compared to the oceans. So I'd say the chart you're using is right and you may not experience large tidal swings, but the tide will still play a role in affecting the fish's behavior
Another question I have is why you use darker baits in darker water. I know it works but I feel like a lighter colored bait would “contrast” more in darker water. Idk
I also had difficulty understanding this at first and this is the best way I can describe it. The color white reflects light while the color black absorbs light. In muddy water, there isn't much light getting through. White/lighter colored baits don't appear as well because they needs a good amount of light to reflect properly. Black/darker colored baits will absorb what light there is and be more visible in the muddier water and at night
There are a ton of cast net tutorials on different techniques to throw a cast net and the best thing to do is just practice in a yard until you feel comfortable
You said dark bait in dark water for a contrast. A contrast by definition is described as dissimilar elements such as light against dark. Can you give a better explanation how dark bait and dark water is a contrast. Love your videos. Recently subscribed. Thanks
“When the sun and moon are moving around the earth”? C’ mon man, everyone knows that the sun orbits the moon and the tides are caused by it phasing through the earth😂

Finally, my prayers have been answered. This is the video I’ve been waiting for. Thanks Brent. Now all we need is a cast net tutorial.
These are the videos that BlackTipH and Lake Fork Guy should be making but they aren't. Thank you so much.

Great video. You compressed my last 3 years of learning inshore fishing down to 18 minutes. Lol. I wish I had this video when I moved here

This is so informal just what I needed. Great vid thanks.
Thanks for the advices, I will put them to practice. One thing, the earth is the one moving, not the opposite.
Man I love your videos. I live in largo Florida and always launch in Boca ciega on my flats boat
You should try to do this either weekly or monthly! Great video.
Can you make a video about catching 40 inch snook
"First step, buy a gheenoe"
Lol, or just watch Justin's channel
First step: find a 40 inch snook
In your next "fishing tips video" can you talk about: different lure retrieves/rod placemnet, bait hook placement, things to look for in the water, and boat tips/tricks?
Lots of good info Brent and another great video!! Trying to get some time off to get to TB to fish the DC and do a hook up with BS at TWO!
Moved to St. Pete a few years ago, and bought some equipment, but just now trying to learn. So much to learn with saltwater fishing. Want to have fun, but not make it my life.
Great insight on all topics! Man, you should do a livestream one evening. I’m dinging the bell in case you do!
Great info, thanks 👍👍

Amazing video thanks 😊
I’ve always known thread fin/ greenback as a separate bait from white bait. And white bait is scaled sardines.
Awesome vid! Thanks Brent :-)

Brent Schirmer alright, sounds good.
Hey fellow Tampa Bay fisherman here, what app do you use for the tides and how accurate do you find it for timing and swing?
I use this website: tides.mobilegeographics.com/
Just type where in Tampa Bay you are looking to fish and it seems to be very accurate. That's what I've used for years now
Can you explain some of the lingo you're using? For example, what is a grass-flat? What does one look like? I'm from an area that doesn't have salt water fishing so please excuse my ignorance...
I'm from Western TEXAS, no salt water fishing here either.
What action was that St. Croix Mojo Inshore rod you had... was it Medium or medium light?
I have a 7' 6" Medium on my 4000 setup now and I used to have a 7' 6" Medium Light on my 3000 setup
Thank you for all the great tips. Do you know of any East Coast RUclipsrs? I do follow Justin.
The only person I personally know on the East Coast is Justin, but I'd recommend checking out Lawson Lindsey as well
when you were fishing for drum and sheep head in Tampa bay what bridge were you fishing gandy? bayside ? courtny camble ?
Great vid
Thanks for the video and tips! What are your thoughts on the stealth 9? I’m 6’ 220 and thinking about getting this as my first fishing kayak.
I love my stealth 9! It's incredibly easy to load and handle. I'd highly recommend it
Hey I have looked at your vids recently, I live in the same area, what type of fish are biting in December, January
How do I find out when is high or low tide and what times they come and go ? What do you use

What kind of vic do you ride?
Do you run charters my man?
I do not unfortunately
