I think its shamefully superficial how people concentrate and then criticize the accents of these ladies. An accent or manner of speaking is just that, a manner of speaking, which varies per country, per region, per city and per individual. Listen to what they say and watch what they do. Martin Luther King Jr, said , "judge not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character." Likewise, he really should have said, "judge someone not by some superficial trait, but by the content of their characters. These ladies went through great effort to make this presentation FOR FREE and FOR YOU. Appreciate it. They did a good job and I learned more than I even needed. That's all that's important. Stop complaining and make your own video, if you think you can do better!
I love it you are so right it gets really ridiculous sometimes in here, reading all the negative comments about superficial things. It eased the content that caused me to click on the video in the first place and if your unable to retrieve that content because you're so easily distracted by such petty things, well that's really sad and speaks loudly of their character. Good comment
Thank you ladies for the advice. I am going to apply gold leaf today and wanted some refreshing on the process. You are very nice. Don't let the high school kids (below) get you down.
Great video! Most gilding instructions are so long, boring and complicated. You make it seem so easy. I had given up on gilding anything. you changed my mind. Thanks!
Once you've sealed it, is it okay to wash in the sink? I like the idea of the glasses but wondering if they are just as practical as they as pretty! Thanks :)
Using pvc glue, and a tiny nail brush, allows tou to paint lettering on any art project, it works just as well as any of the items used on this video. Also can be fairly expensive, a prit stick, also works too. just a couple of tips, as the glue pens, and adhesive for gold leaf can be expensive, especially if you do a lot of art projects. :)
@@ninisthings9293 I suspect you may be right, as you need it to 'go off' - become tacky before you apply the leaf. I now make my own size for water gilding from rabbit skin glue (no longer made from rabbits!) and it works out _incredibly_ cheap! (RSG pellets are readily available from gilding suppliers or good art shops, or you can buy it made up, but it goes off in a couple of weeks, so I prefer to make mine from dried pellets) If anyone reads this and wants to watch an amazing professional gilder in action, I can highly recommend *Ruth Tappin* on YT. I discovered water gilding through her and how to make my own water size. She has a Gilding On a Budget tutorial for crafters, where she uses real gold leaf (though not 24ct! I think she uses 6ct). Working with real gold leaf gives a luminosity and a gleam, that you just don't get with metal leaf. If YT accepts the link, here is her tutorial: ruclips.net/video/mNVBiE3cjyg/видео.html
Hello! Wonderful tutorial, thanks! I was just wondering how durable the final, sealed piece is. Can you wash it with soap and water? If you wanted to somehow remove it, could you also be able to do that?
You definitely cannot remove it once you've leafed it, but as far as durability, if you seal it with an acrylic clear coat you are good, but might lose some shimmer. You can wash it but it will change with age, usually that's a good thing though.
very nice video, many thanks for the time invested to show us such a simple yet useful technique. I have a question, do you know if it works on paper?, i realized the questions below but dont know how to get the answers, lol, also do you know how to do very accurate font edges? many many thanks..
Very likable. Would love to see how to gild intricately curved, shaped things and make them smooth. You guys are fun to watch. Keep it up. PS ignore ignorant haters.
The Two of you are really cute together and made me laugh. I have to go to gold leaf the beveled edges of a plaque that I am working on for which I painted an angel for Christmas. I’ve been putting it off because I did not know how to gold leaf and both of you were tremendously helpful.
dear Jamie and Jacinda ,I have a glass sculpture that's gilded and sealed and I wish to send it interstate. before wrapping it in bubble wrap and foam boards and peanuts and triple boxing it ,is there a material that I can wrap the item in so that the gilding does does not stick to or flake off on ?should I wrap it a particular paper or cotton (will threads stick to the gild) and then bubble wrap etc ?
If you do this on the edges of the dishes can you wash it with hand? And if you want to paint the edges of the plate gold do you need use the acryl stuff
What a great video! So many of the others I've seen make it all sound really complicated, fiddly and difficult, whereas you inspire me to try! So.... can you please say whether/when bole primer is required, or whether everything can be gilded using just sizing? I want to gild onto bone...
OMG…. You'll have just saved me!!!! I am publishing my manuscript: "Billy the Kid: Little Black Book of Secrets", I am doing the book binding myself, and want to put the letters in gold leaf… The PEN (be still my heart!) will work perfect!!! Thank you … Thank you… Thank you… I'll be sure to show it to you once it's done!!! ;D Judi L. Christopher Carlsbad, New Mexico
Any woman critiquing these two skillful ladies about their speech or work, should really grow up. I'd like to see you put something together as well as they did. Build one another up! Have you not even conquered that skill?
Oh, another Q - I also ordered a beaten silver chandelier, but its a bit too beaten for my liking, too much brown showing through the silver, making it look messy rather than distressed. Can I silver leaf the chandelier? Will it be able to withstand any heat from the bulbs (3 bulbs)? Or will it catch fire and bring my house down? I dont want to cover the entire thing in leaf, as I still want that distressed look.
Hi girls and thanks for sharing. Is it possible to gild in gold just the fine edge of a deck of playing cards? (taking into consideration the rough handling and shuffling etc etc). I'd appreciate your guidance on this if possible. Many many thanks
You ladies are brilliant! I am printing the box from the movie "HellRaiser" and I was wondering how I could get the raised symbols to look metallic . I think I'll use an ink roller to spread the glue on the raised surface then do what you've shown me. Thanks :-)
hey I'm trying to apply the gold leafs to a dresser already painted and I wanted to know what type of primer or glue should I use before applying it and if I have to sealed it with anything???? and if I do with what please help.
hello ladies i looked your work so i have 3 questions 1- is it fine to wash it ? like if i make it on glass to drink and then i wash it is it fine 2- is it fine to make it with decoupage? 3- is it fine to use it with plastics ?
1-- No 2-- 3-- Es un acabado delicado... No se debe lavar, ni friccionar... No es par uso rudo.. Se debe limpiar de forma delicada, si es que quieres que dure, pero de preferencia es solo para decoración... Saludos... Si lo puedes aplicar sobre plásticos...
1- provided it is properly sealed, like with many coats. Unadvisable to wash nonetheless. Wiping it gently with a damp cloth should be okay. 2- yes 3- yes, but for 3d printed / rough items, sand it down a few times, seal, sand again before leafing
You guys are super funny. :D Do you have any idea how well this sitcks to painted wood. I am thinking of spraying some already white rattan furniture golden and then applying gold leaf if it isn't shiny enough....... You think there's a catastrophe in the making?
LOL all over the place. Yah, you could, but I am not really it is good to for you to eat the stuff. Especially the fake stuff. The real stuff either. It is soft metal. You might able to do it and acrylic it. If you want to pimp it out, but bling on top of that, like faux diamonds. Are you thinking of Breaking Bad...Tuco. Hopefully you can take it out when you brush. If not, then please don't do that.
Thanks for the tip-I have a large Victorian mahogany plant stand I am going to gold leaf, which will then be home for a large candelabra-will let you know how I get on!
Hi ladies, great vid. Please help! I ordered beautiful mosaic tiles on ebay, tiny beige tile squares interspersed with just a few random gold squares here n there, to add drama and luxury. But when they arrived, they were actually coffee-coloured squares interspersed with orange glass pieces. Its going to cost me too much to send them back, so I thought - what if i gold-leaf the orange glass tile pieces? Is it possible to gold leaf glass tiles? And will it be able to withstand a washroom environment (just a sink/basin and toilet, no shower or bath) as these mosaics will be on the wall above the sink? I'd say I could do about 30-40 tiles at least with just one of those leaf sheets u used in this video, and I dont mind if the entire tile is not covered and I get a broken look instead as that looks good too. Can you give me any pointers/tips re: materials to use, and how to do this project quickly, effectively and cheaply (or at least as cheaply as possible)? I dont want to use spray products as that will end up on the brown mosaic tiles as well, so just stuff I can paint on. Thanks much!
Are the orange and brown tiles connected? If they aren't, spray gold paint on the orange. If they are, tape up the brown tiles then spray gold paint on the orange. If you want to paint, buy gold paint and a sealer. Cheaper than gold leaf but not as reflective and shiny. If you intend to use gold leaf, just apply adhesive size very thinly and apply the gold leaf like in this vid. You can reuse the gold leaf scraps/leftovers for the other tiles to save cost. Hope this helped!!
thanks guys - I am re-doing my fireplace, it's probably 16 or 17 years old, and it has the two 'gold' pieces above the fireplace part and just below, so I'm going to do that in copper leaf - so I guess just clean the two gold pieces, put the tack on both, then apply the copper leaf, then put some type of clear coating on it - need a heat resistant coating though I would imagine, but thank you
That is a vintage c jere which is actually sitting in my garage (because threre's no place for it in my new house) and needs a good home. If you were in the LA area I would give it to you to love!
is it possible for me to gild a copper sword gaurd? i am wanting to gild the gaurd and pommel on my accolade since i had accidently removed some of the plating with some rust pads when i saw some black spots forming so i am wanting to apply some gold gilding to make the gaurd and pommel look gold
So , if I apply the glue and the gold leaf , that means I must use something clear coat on the top ??? if not , the gold leaf will comes off ??? right ? :/ I am planing to gold leafing my phone housing , is made from aluminium .... :)))
It's so simple, Just go to woodprix instructions page and enter woodworkers world.
Fantastic plans!
Really nice!
Can't believe this video is from more than 8 years ago. Every thing is still so relevant in 2021. Thank you.
One of the most easy to follow and smoother gold leafing videos available here on the 'Tube. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for posting this video, it is going to much easier for me to start using gold leaf after actually watching it get done.

Once you've sealed it, is it okay to wash in the sink? I like the idea of the glasses but wondering if they are just as practical as they as pretty! Thanks :)

+AlwayzFear I thought that during the entire video
I actually thought it was her in the beginning of the video LOL
AlwayzFear apparently she likes gold now
I think it's mainly the hair. Same hair style.

Can you wash these items. I am about to do a bathtub out side and wondering if it will be durable and washable.
Hello, what is the name of the product used in this tutorial?
Very likable. Would love to see how to gild intricately curved, shaped things and make them smooth. You guys are fun to watch. Keep it up. PS ignore ignorant haters.
Hi! awsome!! what brand of painting do you use for that nice gold result?

Hi Ms, will the pasted gold leaf peel after several washing and/or after a certain period?
Hi, so did you manage to find the answer to this?
Great video. Thank you for posting... But where did you acquire those accents??! :)

Chris Grey yep entirely possible. tedious work though. If you dont have a special sealer just coat with clear nail polish.

Can you put it in the dishwasher?
Awesome video!

Where do I buy the gold you are using

Hello nice job! How can I have a gold leaf? I'm leaving in Africa the country is Cote d'Ivoire (ivory coast )
thanks guys - I am re-doing my fireplace, it's probably 16 or 17 years old, and it has the two 'gold' pieces above the fireplace part and just below, so I'm going to do that in copper leaf - so I guess just clean the two gold pieces, put the tack on both, then apply the copper leaf, then put some type of clear coating on it - need a heat resistant coating though I would imagine, but thank you
is it possible to do mod podge? and does it stay after washing?
Dishwasher safe?
How did you brush it on to the glass cups?
Wait you said not to sand wood or to sand?
What is that guilding glue called?
WANT THAT ART PIECE IN THE BACKGROUND! Where did you get it?
That is a vintage c jere which is actually sitting in my garage (because threre's no place for it in my new house) and needs a good home. If you were in the LA area I would give it to you to love!

nnickerson100 yes you can. I suggest doing a little research before commencing. And always test the colour and effect before you actually put it on
So , if I apply the glue and the gold leaf , that means I must use something clear coat on the top ??? if not , the gold leaf will comes off ??? right ? :/
I am planing to gold leafing my phone housing , is made from aluminium .... :)))
Great video! Right to the point. Thank you ~
