Thanks Mike. You would make a great Professor! Your enthusiastic use of inductive reasoning captivates your “students” and draws them in to your conclusions in a very relatable way (concept car). As an American who reveres German engineering I love Sinn, and the UX-where They achieved the depth rating/toughness equation/wearability issue by simply changing the paradigm! Less is more!
Glad you mentioned Sinn. I’ve got 3. They seem to be innovating and providing money for value in a way few Swiss manufacturers do in the tool watch sphere.
As '23 draws to a close in Ottawa, I feel I must take this opportunity to thank you Mike, for giving me such a broad ( and unique for this platform) view of the watch industry from a conceptual and well informed perspective. All the very best for you and your family in '24. JA
THIS is what I love about watch enthusiasm! The fact that there isn't a one size fits all. The fact that there is something for everyone. The fact that a watch is owned because it triggered a curious and/or 'must have' emotion. The fact that I can speak to another watch wearer, and if they are enthusiastic about their watch, I can learn to appreciate the qualities of their choice from their passionate insight alone. I have big wrists. I wear double cuffed sleeves. This watch has just replaced the JC and Omega as top of my list. Why? Aside from the obvious price difference, I don't know when I'll be able to own a 'concept car' without the 'concept' pricing of the aforementioned alternatives. Is it preposterously big? 💯 Is it pointlessly engineered? 💯 Do I want it? 💯💯💯💯💯 Thanks for sharing this video with us. This is exactly why we keep coming back to watch. Every now and then, we are inspired, but almost always growing in our appreciation for the talking piece that is the watch.
People sleep on Oris. Its an amazing brand! I would definitely wear this! This is a statement watch in more ways than one. You are right, out of the three it is the best. Sinn and their tegemented steel is up there! I have never had hands on a Doxa yet so I can't say. May you and your family have a fantastic 2024 Mike! God bless and happy new year!
the colorway and overall look of that oris is just bonkers, mad props to them.. have a red rectangular on the way as my first oris cant wait! (plan to change out the strap to blavk leather though)
I have two deep divers. The Rolex Sea Dweller 116600 and the JLC Master Compressor Diving Chronograph. This Oris and the Seiko Emperor Tuna are definitely on my list of watches that I would like to add to my collection. Oris is a legitimate entry level luxury brand in my opinion. I think they are heading to new heights.
I am an Oris fanatic over many years. This piece is big. It is bold but still manages to be beautiful unlike the others mentioned. If however I was going diving which I'm not. I would probably just use my Oris titan, Or my IWC Aquatimer 2000. The Sinn is a great option too.
i love this, my only problem is I just got the 1000m blacked-out little brother... didn't know oris would release one. Wouldn't ever need the depth rating in my line of work but I love the engineering effort. I will seen If I'd get one in 2024.I also have the 126660 blue and a titanium ultradeep. I'm one of the few in the niche of deep diver collectors.
Am I crazy or is this the most reassuring-sounding dude since Bob Ross? I feel like my grandpa is gently explaining watches to me while feeding me hard candies
As someone who has the regular Aquis as the only watch, I think the coolest version is the "depth guage". The only problem is that it's almost twice as expensive, and goes into the luxury territory too much for it to be considered a tool. It has to compete with Citizen aqualand and promaster, and all the dive computers which give the depth meter feature.
Give me a 1000m quartz Tuna anyday. Ok it's not 4000m but these are ridiculous watches and the tuna is supremely wearable and the OG deep-sea dive watch in my eyes
Sinn UX Hydro all the way. Oil filled wearable diver. Slimmer than Omega SMP. Tested to 5000m. Because of the movement limitation. Case is good to 12000m. I like the analogy with concept cars. Another analogy could be motor sport. It’s where car manufacturers push the boundaries of engineering and design. Later some of it trickles down to civil road cars.
An impressive beast. I saw it the other day at New York Jewelers in Chicago, and it is really beautiful, though this word may not fit very well the context. Of course, I understood it wasn't for me, so I left the place with a Longines. Great review!
Another great analysis, Mike. You are the watch RUclipsr for intelligent collectors. I’m assuming you compared this watch to the Rolex Deepsea Challenge because they are both titanium. However a better comparison would have been to the Rolex Deepsea, either the 2nd gen 126660 or 3rd gen 136660; both gens give you the 3900m depth rating - same as the Oris. Plus the Rolex testing from Comex gives you an additional 25% confidence above the stated rating. But unlike the Oris, both the 2nd and 3rd gen Deepsea are actually wearable, with 43mm dial and thickness under 18mm. And they can both be purchased under retail on the preowned market - rare for a Rolex. Anyway, all these extreme divers are mostly for Party tricks IMO. But if I were to buy one it would be the Rolex 126660 43mm with the deep blue dial.
Mike, I will keep this watch in mind, next time I plan to stay submerged for 5 days! (still working out my submarine eating and evacuating technologies...) I think its size will help me in continuing to see it, as I get fatigued around day 3, 4 undersea! Seriously, continue to love your approach to, This Watch, and then, That Watch ♥!
I am about to get this model. It will be my second Oris after an opppsietly different model, the Artelier small second which is very thin. The value for money is fantastic and the comparison with Rolex ans Omega divers is very clever in my opinion. Only drawbacks with Oris Caliber is the reliability apparently, wil see....
I have a Doxa 300t, an Oris small second 500m, and a Rolex single red seadweller. The Sinn UX or this one is next. I tried it on yesterday, fantastic piece.
Thanks for another great video, Mike! I usually don't comment on YT videos but I wanted to voice my appreciation for your in-depth analysis. Your own background really adds a lot without the needless pomp which so many other content creators fall prey to. I did have one question, though: could you make a video about your take on micro brands? Whilst I own watches from Tudor and Tissot, releases from small brands like Brew, Autodromo and Beaucroft have become part and parcel of my collection. However, I do get the feeling the microbrand market is incredibly saturated with a lot of 'bad fish' out there. What do you think? Curious to hearing your thoughts!
I missed the more affordable, and to my opinion even more beautiful, Tissot Seastar 2000 Automatic as a honorable alternative. Two years ago I choose the Tissot over the Oris Aquis Date, not because of the price but because of the beautiful dial of the Tissot. But the Tissot is also a BIG statement on the wrist :)
Honourable mention to the Tudor Pelagos as well. Plenty of depth ability, helium escape valve for the trimix brigade, and still the best adjustable clasp in the dive watch segment. Think I’d wear the Rolex around my ankle. A better fit.
"trimix brigade"??! I use trimix on a rebreather as a diluent when going deep, but there's no need for a helium valve unless you're coming up from deco in a dive chamber. The purpose of a helium escape valve is simply because, when in saturation diving, helium - a very small molecule - slowly leaks into the watch (when in the bell) under high ambient pressure. When the dive bell surfaces / the pressure is reduced, the helium inside the watch will otherwise blow off the watch crystal unless there's an escape valve for small molecules that otherwise won't allow larger molecules into the watch. So unless we're saturation diving in an underwater dive bell, with inert helium replacing nitrogen (and oxygen at high partial pressures, when it's toxic) - helium escape valves in watches are just for the bullshitters. Even then professional divers are very unlikely to use a conventional and v expensive watch anyway: Shearwater etc. dive computers are far superior. And professional deep sat divers are becoming more rare as uw drones are more capable and economic, and there's less offshore oil & gas activity. Dive watches these days are for mucking around on the surface, before and after diving.
@@JohnMcKelvieAnd that in a nutshell is the best explanation as to why dive watches is the most stupid category of watches. It’s way past time they should be called snorkelling or just sports watches. I basically wear mine for every day but just for surfing, they still have to be quite resilient as everyday salty immersions (4 mts tops) do take a toll on flimsier watches, but I’d never wear a +$2,000 watch for it, I’ve got my Vostoks and micro brand watches for that.

Helium escape valve? The Seiko Professional does not need a helium escape valve? Why? Because of superior engineering helium cannot enter the watch case as in other designs (that thus require an escape valve).
Snigger……. So I can still wear my £25k Rolex Deep Sea Challenge on my ankle when I pop down to the bottom of the Mariana Trench for a selfie?😁 I’d have thought the end of my comment might have set off an alert. Still, nice to know that some people actually think that Rolex’s et al are actually still used for diving (especially the heavier solid gold Submariners, which incidentally save on the use of expensive and toxic lead for ballast).
Fascinating... if, as you say, comical and all but unwearable at the same time! I often wonder who buys these things. But maybe you're right, it's in the same vein as the concept car, an engineering flex that has value beyond the product in and of itself.
Might I recommend you look at the Zelos Abyss 3 as an example of a watch to establish a brand's place in the firmament at a MUCH more reasonable price while retaining the massive size and depth rating and a truly epic bracelet. Helson isn't a slouch either, and neither are the countless 1000m divers from Deep Blue.
Mike, Oris has always interested me because it is privately owned and technically competent. However, many of their designs have not not been my favorites. I think that is because I have been precondition to the Tudor Sub or Rolex Sub, Datejust aesthetic for the past 25 yrs. Shame on me. In my defense I do have Seiko and Tissot divers as well and classic design dress watches. For a vid would you mind going into Sinn as a company and speak on a couple of their hit watches, also speak to their gold bronze model in particular please. Secondly ,in your next Q&A would you touch on whether the Tudor BB Kennisi movements are just an ETA inspiration or not and compare the movements. I still feel at the time of their design and release, ETA movements were specialized and inhouse movements. LastlyI am selling my Seiko SLA 065 diver as I have a the King Turtle. Based on your 65 MAS vid I should not have bought it. Or do I have it wrong and should do the opposite? What's your opinion? Thank you for your time. Did you get a watch for Christmas? Regards, Chris
The aquis pro is massive compared to a Doxa 300t or 300. It's bigger, thicker and also more "vertical. There's no slope. My guess is that on 6.7 inches the aquis is going to feel comically large. 😊😊
Love it. But I just can’t carry off the dinner plate style on my skinny wrist. Maybe Oris will take pity on us guys that don’t look like a main battle tank.
This is the watch that the OceanGate Titanic touristas should have had on their wrists. At least then they'd have been able to recover something of value.
I have a 8-1/2" wrist circumference. I've owned a Rolex Deepsea Cameron, Ref. 126660, and found it to be too small and difficult to read for its 44mm diameter, yet very top heavy. I sold it. But I still have a vintage Panerai and used to wear 47mm Panerais as my dailies. But size-wise, even those can't hold a candle to my Mudmaster GWG-1000 1A3 and, much more so, my Zlatoust 191ChS with a diameter of 60mm without the crown and 72mm with it. So please forgive me for smiling and shaking my head when anybody talks about a big watch with a diameter just half an inch wider than a Bulova Lunar Pilot. Everything is relative, isn't it?
The Deepsea is the ultimate deep dive watch, the Ultra deep is a cool homage to the James Cameron ( I own both so 🖕) and the Oris is a Kinder Egg toy of fun in comparison I would wager (do not have one yet). Sinn U212 is an affordable stunner on rubber (with required discount as with all previously mentioned bar Rolex). Guys with less than average sized wrists should stick to an SMP300...... No wait.....They are too big too 😂😂😂
Fully agree on the final conclusion (I also find it a quite striking watch although I haven’t seen it live) and, for me, that’s kind of the problem, I’ve been paying attention to Oris for quite a while, love most of their lines but somehow I’ve never taken the step of buying one mostly because there’s always a better option at Longines or some other contender with a better price point. The fact that they’re independent makes them slightly more expensive than the equivalent brands from the bigger companies.
Very big, and more expensive than Omega. As a matter of fact, when you get to that price range, there’s a bit of a competition. No luxury watch owner is going to take it down to 11000 meters.
Had been an Oris fan for quite a while until i purchased the Aquis 400 ...Yes the designs are good but the Calibre 400 is a hit or miss ... I got stuck with 2 duds and had to replace the Aquis with a longines ... Also I bought the new calibre well after a year it was launched ..Though initially several reviewers found issues with the calibre I was expeting that Oris would have sorted the issues .. forget COSC the calibre was not even meeting the 4R35 specs wrt accuracy
@@raivobralis6231 I returned the first watch and got a replacement .. the replacement was also running +20 secs a day ..sent it back and got a message that it would take 6 to 8 weeks for a replacement movement ..was not interested in taking a chance for 3rd time
For the first time I don’t agree with you. Design wise, for me, Oris is a jack of all trades. A wannabe high performance _ slash_ modern _ slash _ urban wear wrist watch. With its custom design lugs and a rubber strap that screams Oris like a GShock style, a non-tool color choices but rather fancy looking …. Check please Certina Super DS PH 500 in black … you may be surprised. Rolex is a bold statement instead. Full metal gear solid in black it looks like the time itself may be looked as a weapon 😂. Rolex Deep Sea is not a tool watch is more a philosophical approach of the idea of time , human endeavor, bold and sublime in a way like a declaration that we are here to stay. Time encapsulated. Probably the only Rolex I would buy. Oris ? It is the Japanese direction of a Swiss watch company that try heavy to catch more clients
i had a first gen aquis, loved it but the movement and crown gave me problems, i ended up selling it, i have had a seiko mini turtle a few years now, its size comfort lume looks and relieability for 320 euros puts my old aquis to shame
Oris is starting to breakout and get noticed at long last! It is quite an affordable and available brand. This watch is aimed at large wrists, but the dial design is beautiful with the wave dial and bright turquoise color. I could see Oris make 40MM divers using the same dial design. I love the Omega Seamaster, but Oris is catching my attention with its designs and increased power reserve.
I love the Oris brand, but I am not in agreement that this watch demonstrates creativity. It virtually copies the seamaster wave dial design and the date is lost on the size of that case making it seem inadequate. It has too many similarities to other brands/models and it’s entry level luxury compared to Rolex and Omega. Definitely nice, but definitely not better.
First off its comparable with a Deepsea and Ultra Deep (not DSC and PO). Second it probably does not need a Rock size wrist. Third it's the poor third of the Big Boy Dive Watch Club and a third of the price. Forth the whole short lug thing is more than accepted at all other times. Fifth ...... Just buy all three 😈 Sixth that cuff thing is a fallacy 😂😂😂
I like the direction Oris has taken of late and the ProPilot X Kermit is a fun twist on a classic. But this watch is at best a "holiday by the pool" watch. I would rather buy a Tissot T-Sport Sideral
The problem with Oris is, it's Oris. And not Rolex. Decades of perfect marketing. It is that simple. End of the story. I wouldn't buy an Oris. Just because it's Oris. Rolex is and will ALWAYS be so much more than the sum of its technical specifications.
I have to disagree. I hate this release 😂 Unwearable and yet another high priced Oris nobody will buy. The designers have too much more fun and they'll put the brand right out of business. Oris has lost the plot in recent years. Pricing is bonkers and many authorized dealers are selling brand new watches right now for end of the year sales at 35% off. I'm rooting for the brand, but I don't feel good about where they are headed
Sorry, but to me Oris is synonymous with bad value - more so than any other brand right now. Compared to Oris, even Tag Heuer prices don't seem all that bad for what you get. However, Oris is a RUclips darling and all RUclipsrs keep pushing them for some reason, but few actually own them.
Oh a U212 is probably a decent forth member of the average man wrist and not stupid slim fit cuff with cheap ass buttons, rather than double cuff cufflinks grown up real man/not soy boy, man sh*t!
Rolex are a marketing masterpiece, but there is a lot more to relax which goes to make it up and none of it. Apart from the use of the word oyster is original. That’s the whole trick the truth is oris do make fantastic watches
Elsker Oris! Har et limited edition Big Crown Propilot Swiss airborne something, et Prodiver med de foretrukne spidse hour markings og et Aquis calibre 400 43,5mm med blå dial, og jeg elsker dem og mærket! 🤌🏻🤌🏻

Regards,
Chris
Oris just has something that makes you have a look and mull (and in weakness..). I can almost imagine you have similar views with that skeleton watch
Looking forward to the next video! ❤️
Thanks 😃😃
This vs Doxa for a statement piece on my 6.7 inch wrist? I genuinely care for your thoughts
The aquis pro is massive compared to a Doxa 300t or 300. It's bigger, thicker and also more "vertical. There's no slope. My guess is that on 6.7 inches the aquis is going to feel comically large. 😊😊
@@Mike.thiswatchthatwatch yourterrific said exactly the same 😅
I tried on the Planet Ocean 6000. It was beautiful, extremely well made, and comically thick. Would I wear the PO6000 in t-shirt weather? No.
Lol... Exactly 😂
@@Mike.thiswatchthatwatchI am sorry but it is the same with this oris. Beautiful but way to big and thick
"A measuring contest to see who can go deeper". So they are compensatory watches then?
For the brands, Yes 😃
Love it. But I just can’t carry off the dinner plate style on my skinny wrist. Maybe Oris will take pity on us guys that don’t look like a main battle tank.
Lol 😂😂
This is the watch that the OceanGate Titanic touristas should have had on their wrists. At least then they'd have been able to recover something of value.
Oris makes nice stuff.
The Oris Aquis Calibre 400 beats both the Rolex Submariner and the Omega Seamaster, and for much less money. Would like to see a video ab ou this.
Great idea.... I'll consider it 👊😃
Sinn looks cool
Interesting point about longines ... They likely do have an edge .😃😃
Very big, and more expensive than Omega. As a matter of fact, when you get to that price range, there’s a bit of a competition. No luxury watch owner is going to take it down to 11000 meters.
what about the Certina DS diver 😊😊😊😊. I would buy the ORIS !!!! I have a zelos hammerhead that goes 1000m….
Yup
Had been an Oris fan for quite a while until i purchased the Aquis 400 ...Yes the designs are good but the Calibre 400 is a hit or miss ... I got stuck with 2 duds and had to replace the Aquis with a longines ... Also I bought the new calibre well after a year it was launched ..Though initially several reviewers found issues with the calibre I was expeting that Oris would have sorted the issues .. forget COSC the calibre was not even meeting the 4R35 specs wrt accuracy
Aquis Caliber 400 has 10 years guarantee. How happened you did not manage to solve?
Lol 😂 Agreeing is overrated - the debate is for more interesting. Thanks for sharing your perspective 😀😀😀
If only they haven’t screwed up the lug width and the price.
I will all day long choose the emperor tuna automatic marinemaster.
I think if you offer me all 3, I’m taking the planet ocean.
Fair enough 😃
i had a first gen aquis, loved it but the movement and crown gave me problems, i ended up selling it, i have had a seiko mini turtle a few years now, its size comfort lume looks and relieability for 320 euros puts my old aquis to shame
Sinn UX. 5000 meters in a case just 13.3mm thick. Uber German technology at it’s best,
Ja!
Bingo 😃😃
i dig all your insights in all your vids. happy ny
Happy new years 😃😃
Oris is starting to breakout and get noticed at long last!
H2O Kalmar 2 Deep Diver beats them all with 25,000M water resistance
Hit the mariana trench and just keep digging 😂😂
Just buy all three 😈
Sixth that cuff thing is a fallacy 😂😂😂
I like the direction Oris has taken of late and the ProPilot X Kermit is a fun twist on a classic. But this watch is at best a "holiday by the pool" watch. I would rather buy a Tissot T-Sport Sideral
💕💥💕
The problem with Oris is, it's Oris. And not Rolex. Decades of perfect marketing. It is that simple. End of the story.
I wouldn't buy an Oris. Just because it's Oris. Rolex is and will ALWAYS be so much more than the sum of its technical specifications.
True, as omega
These things wears like a can of dog food. Hard pass.
Most people would likely agree on that sentiment 😂😂
I have to disagree. I hate this release 😂
Unwearable and yet another high priced Oris nobody will buy. The designers have too much more fun and they'll put the brand right out of business. Oris has lost the plot in recent years. Pricing is bonkers and many authorized dealers are selling brand new watches right now for end of the year sales at 35% off. I'm rooting for the brand, but I don't feel good about where they are headed
would you buy it rhough?😂😂
Never 😂
No not anywhere close
h2o-kalmar-2-oceanictime-10-miles
Too expensive as are all big brands.
Oris makes mediocre watches. This particular one is a piece of crap for those without taste.
Reason got nothing to do with this watch😂
Likely not 😂
Oh a U212 is probably a decent forth member of the average man wrist and not stupid slim fit cuff with cheap ass buttons, rather than double cuff cufflinks grown up real man/not soy boy, man sh*t!
Lol totally think someone would pick this over a Rolex or Omega. You’re above stupid click bait titles. Just stick to quality content
No one is impressed by oris, they have never heard of it, everyone knows rolex and is impresed by the ridiculous price.
Rolex are a marketing masterpiece, but there is a lot more to relax which goes to make it up and none of it. Apart from the use of the word oyster is original.
That’s the whole trick the truth is oris do make fantastic watches
Not
Elsker Oris! Har et limited edition Big Crown Propilot Swiss airborne something, et Prodiver med de foretrukne spidse hour markings og et Aquis calibre 400 43,5mm med blå dial, og jeg elsker dem og mærket! 🤌🏻🤌🏻
