I came back to China - and I'm getting evicted!

- Don't worry - I'm not getting kicked out of China. But I am getting kicked out of my apartment in Shenzhen on very short notice, which is definitely throwing a monkey wrench in my plans.

EDIT: Ok, I hear you guys - the original video title was too far over the line. I was just trying to have a bit of fun with an otherwise pretty shitty situation, and something that I've been tearing my hair out about for the past two weeks. However, I'm hearing you guys loud and clear that I took it a little bit too far. I've changed the video title from "I came back to China - and they're kicking me out!" to "I came back to China - and I'm getting evicted!" I do take being honest with you guys super seriously, and I wouldn't want something as silly as a video title to get in the way of that. That being said, I hope you watch the whole video - this is a major disruption for me and the channel, but there's also a silver lining.
Original comment:
Ok, this title and intro might be a bit on the clickbaity side:) But this is still a major disruption for Strange Parts, so I wanted to make sure to keep you all in the loop. Makes sure you watch the whole thing to get the full story.
I read the description first ;)
Strange Parts hey bro, my office is open to you for storage in the market bro. Seriously you need anything, I gotcha. I was actually watching the video and left a comment prior to finishing it, but I would hate to lose all my gear. Let me know, I have pleeeenty of room
Verry click bate, but I love your video's, also I really want to make a phone and will try next time I go to China, just wondering how long does it take to get the parts, cause ill probably be in a 32-hour layover,
much appreciated
Thank you for the offer - I rented a storage unit though, and everything is safely moved out. So I'm good for the time being, and have some time to take a breather and figure out what's next. But thank you!
Love your channel. Don't like that title or the first part of the video. You're better than this man.
Your landlord is taking advantage of you. I am from China. Landlord should pay for all the major repair such as a leaking roof.
The owner should be the one to fix all these defects!
RUclips is inaccessible in China y du yu have access to it and how?
@@tsk7091 he's from China he may be in it but he didn't specify. I assume he's moved out of the country.
@@tsk7091 As someone who's been to China multiple times, it's relatively easy to get on RUclips there. All you need is a VPN. Searching the Apple or Google app stores it's as easy as picking one to download and turn it on. Boom, you have RUclips, Snapchat, Facebook, etc. access.

Lesson no. 1; Don't invest too much money into a place that you do not own. In whatever country you live.
Technically it doesn't matter even if you "own" it, it's not REALLY yours. The government owns all the land and everything on it. This is true in all countries. Eminent domain is a thing everywhere and especially in China you never truly own anything because they don't recognize private property rights at all.
@Max Raider Man that sucks lfamo..glad im not Chinese.
@Max Raider i dont know about other countries but most countries have 99 leases or permanent leases
@Max Raider 70 years to be precise
in the uk, you can buy freehold or leasehold. freehold you buy the land with the property and leasehold you lease it for a set number of years or the remaining term of the initial agreement e.g. a 99-year lease in 1900 would run until 1999 but if you bought in 1980 you would have 19 years until renewing the lease
You paid for the roof to be fixed and he is kicking you out. The injustice hurts my soul.
Plus he will never get as good of a tenant as yourself.
Sounds like america
@Zane Zuccaro its a hotel, even in america you cant sue for this, as theres no lease involved
@@XiaoYueMao
You can ask a lawyer
@@CuriousMindRUclips He's pretty much right, they can. That being said it is possible to fight and it probably is there as well but not worth it in either case because your not technically covered under the Landlord-tenant laws.
Landlord probably sees him as easy money.
When I saw the title. I taught they were kicking you out of china. Which scared me. But now I realize it's just the apartment. You are a very good person and excellent at adjusting. I am sure you will find your next apartment. Wish you all the best!! But I am sure you will be fine.
Was thinking the same thing, you never know with China government.
Alexandru Maran eviction means getting kicked out of a place of residence not country.
@@ChicoTunda The original title was "I came back to China - and they're kicking me out", which I presume is the reason for the 1k downvotes and him then changing the title to "- and I'm getting evicted"
Me too, as I read the notification that was something "kicked me out of china".
Getting 1.000 downvoters so quick is something noticeable ... chinese whatever kind of democracy they still seem to learn and like if they arrive in europe or germany to study for free.
All these thousands of chinese students on german universities are simply studying on german tax payer cost.
Europe first - and most of them and the fleet of indian students would be mostly vanished.

This is just the start of a new adventure for season 2. Even if the audio is bad or the location is bad, we're grateful that you do not stop making videos. More POWERS to you man and your channel, hope to hear from you soon.
If you make a series about finding an appartment in China, I would totally watch that!
But then people would know where the new apartment is

This would possibly be extremely cool, although the editing of said videos might be challenging with temporary accommodation.
Joao Pires I don’t think he edits, in the Linus collab he mentions how he has an editor
I've seen some shows on apartment hunting in China and they were great, but it would be an awesome addition to your channel
Hey Scotty you have been great motivator for me. To fight against all odds is your nature. Don't be low. Superb idea! Part of the "kick in the pants," too! Btw, you never need to apologize for not telling us where you live. You have a right to privacy. Also, every state, city and country has its own laws about eviction. Lots of people also live without a lease...

Thanks for the status update - sad to hear that you are put in this situation but glad you are taking the positive approach. I would love to see your process of finding housing in China, as it certainly is one of my interests yet fears about living abroad. Good luck!!!
I've gone down the RUclips rabbit hole of expats in China and Japan a bit, and I now have even more respect for foreigners trying to do anything over there. The social/financial dynamics are so very different than the Western world, it boggles the mind. I could never do it, just wouldn't have the mental fortitude. Kudos to the explorers that take the risk and show us the beauty and the reality of that big *strange* country. I know I speak for the silent majority when I say stay healthy, keep it up, and THANK YOU.
Good luck with season two, I love to see your videos! I hope you get a huge shop with lathes... CNCs... 3D printers all this stuffs so you can make more projects about electronics and reverse engineering. If I may... I'll love to see how plastic enclosures are made in China, I think it would be a very good video if you visit one of these factorys
I just recently started watching your channel, and immediately fell in love with your adventures. as a maker, I find it super engaging to watch other countries and how they go about making anything and everything. I just recently begin to watch your videos and a recent subscriber. I have to say, besides the cool parts that u created, I love how raw your videos are and how you just tells us what just goes through your mind and unscripted.
This is a kick in the pants! So excited for you. I'm sure you will film the moving/studio process I know I would love to see it.
"Paid not to wallpaper" Only in China, my friend.
Just like in USSR - communal apartments, you own nothing, they do what they want
Money Matters Funny, communication problems in you mouth become cultural issue. Why don’t you say it’s political difference because China is a socialist country, just like the other guy said. Lol
私の顔にペニスを撃ってください this has nothing to do with communal anything, and has everything to do with the fact that this is really a hotel, and he doesn’t have a lease. You don’t seriously think this apartment was own by the government or that China today is anything like USSR? There is more economic freedom today in China than in the USA, and that is mainly due to lack of regulations/lack of enforcement of existing regulations. Political freedom however, is another story.

Is not clickbait , wikipedia said about eviction,
"Eviction is the removal of a tenant from rental property by the landlord. In some jurisdictions it may also involve the removal of persons from premises that were foreclosed by a mortgagee (often, the prior owners who defaulted on a mortgage)."
But most of the people who read title, after see the word 'china' and then the word 'evicted' that used to be 'kicking me out' , doesn't interpreted it as you mention, especially after watching the beginning of the video. So..
It said 'I came back to China - and they're kicking me out!' previously.
Yeah, definitely doesn't say "deported"

@Andrej Savatikj free speech mate
@Andrej Savatikj this is actually not a insignificant issue, Westerns are already paranoid about China, a title like this only adds to the misunderstanding, I'm using my freedom of speed to express my displeasure about this issue, anything wrong?
@Andrej Savatikj there are definitely alooot of valid reasons to be paranoid, but the original title was strongly implying that he got kicked out of the country which isn't what happened and a huge deal for expats everywhere, thus not something that is not a big deal

Scotty, good luck with finding a better place!
I grew up in Shenzhen, 20 years before I came to U.S. Sad to see you got kicked out of my city in such a dumb way. If it helps, the whole renovation thing has an explanation. Housing market is crazy in Shenzhen, especially renting. And renovating the house would allow the apartment owner to list it as “recently renovated” and jack up the price regardless if it’s a Hotel or an apartment.
Yeah, they were pretty transparent about wanting to turn it into a hotel to increase revenue for the property. The owner owns a bunch of properties in Shenzhen, so this building is just another line on the revenue sheet...
