Amazing review brilliant review! I had mine shipped from Japan and for Christmas received the 12 inch Shin Bandai!!! Absolutely love love sculpts on both!!! So nice for my collection! You do great work sir! So happy u found one yourself actually in Japan!! I know that made it extra special!
These were definitely elusive when compared to previous Bandai releases. I live in Tokyo and remember going to some toy department stores the day they were released. I grabbed half a dozen of them to sell to people in the USA and Mexico that usually buy toys from me. I sold out in less than 24 hours and had a flood of requests coming in from other people so I went back to the department store a couple days later to grab some more - but the Godzilla aisle was completely empty. Eventually I found more on Rakuten (a web store in Japan) including the form A and B figures. I had never seen such a demand for a standard Bandai Godzilla figure before. Kind of crazy. I collect vintage vinyl toys but normally don't go for the Bandai stuff with the exception of the theater exclusives. Luckily I saw Shin Godzilla opening night so I was able to grab the gold-glittery translucent red Shin Godzilla theater exclusive which was roughly $25 at the theater... I only had enough cash to buy one and I absolutely love it. Can't stand leaving tags on my vinyl toys, I always take them off and store them separately - I don't plan on selling it. I did try to grab a few extra with a credit card, but the theater gift shop didn't except credit cards... too bad because they were sold out the next day and now they go for $75-$100. If you ever need more Godzilla stuff or Japanese toys in general, hit me up! My prices are lower than the stuff found on eBay. My main site with links to everything is here: tokyotoybastard.blogspot.com
That's a pretty cool figure, but about your story about having trouble finding it is odd to me. Because when I lived there usually when a big kaiju movie (like Ultraman) was about to drop I would see tons of merch for it. Even Ultra cola. But this most likely because it was Ultraman is more popular than Godzilla. Also I think you should have bought both of the figures.
I think it's because I got there two weeks after the premiere and most merchandise was already gone from stores. These figures released about a month before the movie. Things move out fast in Japan. The day after I arrived, the theater took down their Shin Gojira banner and replaced it with Ninja Turtles.
KaijuRob Interesting. Usually I'd see merchandise like figures up to a year later. I lived in Sasebo though. The Cities you mentioned I don't remember too well though. Are they up north?
Well, Shinjuku where I was staying is in the heart of Tokyo. And Akihabara is pretty much the pop culture capital of Japan, so I was really surprised to see that none of the toy stores I went to, not even Mandarake had this figure, or really any Godzillla merchandise to speak of.
Sure! I have lots of videos planned for my various Godzillas, both Bandai and X-Plus. I'll be posting more of them in the coming weeks. Thanks so much for watching!
Are going to get the sh monsterarts godzilla earth
Probably not. I mostly collect Bandai and X-Plus. I'm not a huge fan of the articulated figures.
