  • In this video I give my opinion, feel free to voice yours in the comments, why I went with a Procharger vs other superchargers such as: Whipple, Magnuson, Vortech, TorqStorm, etc. While there are advantages and disadvantages to both centrifugal and positive displacement superchargers, I went with a centrifugal supercharger, specifically Procharger. Hope this helps with others trying to make the same decision.

    You explained your logic in choosing the Procharger in an earlier video on your R/T, as I have the 1970 style traditional Challenger hood a low profile E-Force fits great under the stock hood. I won't need forged internals with that set up combined with modest conservative boost levels. It really is a blast taking our cars up a few notches with these types of exciting mods man!

      Yes, you will need the forged internals if you want to get the times in the 10's. If you just eant a quick street car and only use 8-10 pounds of boost then no you don't need them, but it would still be wise to have forged internals. If you do what l suggested with the supercharger change you might save enough to pay for the forged internals by making that change.

    I like the Vortech if choosing a centrifugal. The Procharger has that weird TRIANGLE shaped box that turns the air 90 degrees on the Hemis right before the throttle body. I have seen several people keep blowing the charge pipe of right there. They make a great supercharger but I wish their routing was more like the Vortech.

    • @ModernRedHemi
      @ModernRedHemi  3 года назад

      I agree with the routing issue and having the same trouble with the coupler blowing off at that very point. Hasn't done it in a while but it has done it. At some point, I am going to talk with an installer/fabricator to see what we can do. Possibly a different intercooler (liquid to air) with a different set up may work.

    • @turbochevelle5641
      @turbochevelle5641 2 года назад

      The Vortech is also a more efficient unit as well. We are currently finishing up a 2019 Scat Pack Widebody with Vortech Ysi and new rotating assembly which took it from a 392cibto a 428ci. It's going to be a handful.

    Here's where I am. I obviously have the same concerns. Keeping the shaker. So ProCharger or Vortech. I could go twin turbo as well. The piping looks like a nightmare, and while I can weld, I don't have a welder at the house. So fab work would be a PITA. My reason for stopping in was Procharger vs Vortech. Which wasn't covered LMAO. I see two distinct differences with the two. Procharger has the inlet up alongside the motor so I'm thinking hot air inlet vs Vortech reverse mount design that pull air from the front, so it would be cooler air incoming. I'll have to go looking for the followup video comparing them now. LOL

    • @ModernRedHemi
      @ModernRedHemi  2 года назад

      I don't really have a good comparison with the Vortech. I don't know anyone that has one except in the 6 cylinder variant. My AIT's are not awfully bad though. Remember that it goes through the intercooler before coming back into the throttle body. Agree though, it may be a little cooler coming from the front vice the engine bay. If you get it we will definitely will have to do a comparison. 💪💪💪

    @Modern Red Hemi - I don't think you'll have a problem installing the Procharger. The directions are good and detailed. The only issue you will have is with tuning. Because your car has a cam, long tubes, ported heads, and an upgraded intake the tune that comes with the Procharger kit won't work. The Procharger tune is conservative and developed for a stock car. I would imagine that Jay Greene writes tunes for supercharged cars and you can have him do it. Tuning is a little more complicated and will take some datalogging and several revisions. If there is a tuner that has a good reputation in your area and knows Mopar, I would consider going that route for the tune. Dyno tuning will best optimize the potential of the supercharger. For what it's worth, my car is Procharged and I like it. It's a good thing because there is no positive displacement supercharger made for my car. From a pure power standpoint, turbos make the most power. You could compete with and hold your own with Hellcats if you go with turbos. However, that won't be the case with a Procharger. The nice thing about the centrifugal is that 3500 RPM and below, your car will drive the way it does now. It's also much easier on the drivetrain. Good luck with the installation.

    • @ModernRedHemi
      @ModernRedHemi  3 года назад

      Thanks brother! I was looking at the install instructions the other day. Seems pretty clear cut. Gonna stick with Jay. Hu 3.7 wouldn’t knock the procharger set up , hellcats have a hard time with me and I’m just a boosted scat on a stock block 😉

    • @hu3.789
      @hu3.789 3 года назад

      @@widebody_moparmike - Not knocking the Procharger. I own one myself. At the dragstrip, the Procharged car will lose to the Hellcat. That's for 2 reasons. The first is maximum boost isn't achieved until redline for a Procharged car. The Hellcat builds maximum boost at lower RPM. A stock Hellcat will achieve 11-12 pounds of boost to 7lbs for the Procharger. The Procharged horsepower will approach but not reach the peak number of the Hellcat because centrifugals are more efficient. However, the Hellcat will produce more power at all parts of the curve especially at lower RPM. A Prochared Scat Pack will be extremely quick. However, with 2 good drivers the Hellcat should prevail by 2 car lengths or more over the Procharged Scat Pack at dragstrip. On the street, it's more about traction than horsepower in a race.

      Well I’m here to tell you I haven’t seen many stock kitty’s running 11.2s in the 1/4 , second a 392 is bigger cube vs the 6.2 , pound for pound the 392 will win , stock kitty’s Dyno low 600s and well so did my 392 stock other than the procharger 🤷‍♂️.

  • @Drunken_Hamster
    @Drunken_Hamster 10 месяцев назад +1

    I just learned that the centri chargers are exponential in a squared way. Meaning, if you make 25 pounds at 7k rpm, you're not making 12.5 pounds at 3500rpm, you're actually making *5 pounds*
    This actually made me really disappointed in centrifugal all of a sudden. I'm sure it's ideal for traction, especially on bigger displacement-to-weight ratio cars, but I was really hoping for something to be the perfect middle ground between Turbos and Supers and it seems Centri's aren't quite it, which is REALLY apparent now that I correctly understand how they build boost.

    • @ModernRedHemi
      @ModernRedHemi  10 месяцев назад

      Spot on brother! Definitely helps with traction though and more than makes up for it on the top end. 💪

    • @Drunken_Hamster
      @Drunken_Hamster 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@ModernRedHemi Yeah, if your car already had a big enough N/A engine (roughly 1 cubic inch per 10-15 pounds), then a true centrifugal makes a lot of sense if you want a crapload of relatively controllable power beyond what N/A can provide. I just wish for those slightly under-engined cars (1 cube per 15-20 pounds) there was that linear-increase option that would do 1/2 boost at 1/2 RPM instead of sqrt-boost at 1/2 rpm, and was as relatively simple and clean to install and setup as a centrifugal is.
      Turbos are a pain and easily destructive, and positive displacement is just for the flex/bragging rights IMO. Both have the potential to literally "overblow" a power package in more ways than one. IDK.

If so, run the the supercharger connection to intake in normal fashion, thenmount the shacker scoop over to come up through the hood in stock position. Don't forget tje scoop will not operate anymore once a superchatger is feeding boostrd pressure to the engine.

    Centrifugal? Ok...the Hellion kit is unlimited in power plus you can shape the ramp up. Centrifugals are progressive true, but the crank load on the snout is high. Twin turbskis is the big move

    • @ModernRedHemi
      @ModernRedHemi  3 года назад

      True enough but with the kit I would have wanted it would have skyrocketed the price. 😬

      Again the turbos and there oil system sit to low to the ground , as for a dd probably not a good thing in the dmv , second the procharger on 7psi he’ll pick up 200 whp and have same drive ability as stock. , might wanna follow my scat build on ig if your not a believer

    • @hoost3056
      @hoost3056 3 года назад

      @@widebody_moparmike ok, clearance issues aside, you're still limited to some degree and any step up will require a new head unit. Then you have to upgrade the belt system. Then more parts. At some point the cost factor and reliability goes wrong. A lot of centri users end up going turbo to stay competitive and increase reliability. At the top level, Daddy Dave is a prime example...went from nitrous to Procharger to twin 88mm turbos....why? Because of tuneability and reliability. Sloppy Mechanics is on the other end...he's done nitrous, supercharging and turbo...but his most popular setups are all turbo. The Hemi and the LS are super close in design, although the price point is different.

    • @widebody_moparmike
      @widebody_moparmike 3 года назад

      Brother Django Dakota well see that’s where everyone goes wrong , procharger headunits if you pick the right one from the start you won’t have issues (and it’s fairly cheap to send back to have it upped ) as for belt issues again picking the right belt and tensioner for the application is key. And as for turbo builds the basic kits (key there is kit) what you’re talking about is people going to custom built set ups which the avg joe isn’t doing in their driveway or garage nor using as a daily driver. Let’s be honest if we’re gonna go for all out fast drag racing everyone would go for a lsx car and not a heavy Mopar boat

    I personally think whipple because with the pro charger you’ll have to run a longer race to get the power rather than not spooling up fast enough and someone with a bottom end making the quarter mile faster

    • @ModernRedHemi
      @ModernRedHemi  2 года назад

      You'd be surprised how fast the power comes in with the ProCharger though true, with a Whipple it will come in a little quicker. 1/4 mile though I'd take out a Whipple with the same mods every time. 😉
