Since we've already established that Nicolet Bay is within intercity bus distance... perhaps some of Tim Kequom's relatives owned the farmland that eventually became the town, which was named Kequom Hill in their honor. (And knowing about the farming background in his family tree later helped inspire Tim to establish Ojibwa Organics.)

I love all the energy and passion you put into your videos. It makes them super enjoyable to watch and learn from. I’m working on a small town region myself that mimics much of the American West small town feel. In the American West it’s often a fire district that spans several communities within say 20 miles, it’s a sheriff who patrols the entire county, and there aren’t even police officers. There aren’t massive interchanges, it’s literally a two lane highway that turns into Main Street and back onto the highway(there might be 3 lane passing lane on hills) The handful of commercial businesses on Main Street rely on the highway traffic coming through.
Skylines and SimCity have always been geared towards massive cities and the economics suggest it but I don’t see any reason why there can’t be smaller services in an expansion pack. A few items… Small cemeteries, sheriffs office could be an administrative office who patrol highways and dirt roads instead of towns, smaller fire department or even allowing a district to have a “volunteer fire department” made up of citizens which is a very real thing for say a community of 200 people. Another commercial zone called tourism and/or a commercial zone called services. A small post office. A small town would have a gas station or two, a couple bars, maybe a restaurant. They might have some commercial geared towards highway drivers and tourism like antique stores. Instead of a car dealership it might be a tractor and implement dealer.
I know you love to build regions and small towns and you have the power and voice to push for a “small town” expansion pack and I really hope you think about making that video. I think it would be a big hit and add so much more depth to the game.
    Thanks for all you do!

Good news is, that I don’t have move, and I am in control of my property. But if there is an offer from a developer, I probably can get a lot more than what’s it’s worth as a single family home!

Great video! This is specially great for me as I want to make Portuguese maps! Portuguese system is hard to understand, even for a native, but essentially our municipalities aren't cities and our cities aren't municipalities, and some places you can't even tell what's a city or not. A municipality is a government level comprised of one or multiple parishes, and it depends a lot on where you are as to what's a city or not. Lisbon, for example, is regarded as a city, but it is comprised of 24 parishes, none of which are named Lisbon, which is usually a must in a municipality: One parish is the seat of the council, and gives its name to the municipality. If you cross the river, you'll see another municipality, Seixal, which is a city and, among other parishes, has Corroios, which is classified as a town, so essentially a town within a city, and it is far from the only example as there are tons of examples where some places are defined as cities or towns, effectively controlled by another city, and other places have no classification. Parishes can also be joined by decree, forming parish unions that have the same government and being treated individually as former/defunct parishes, which results in some weird results, such as Corroios being its own parish, but Seixal, the seat of the municipality and you'd assume to be the main place in, well, Seixal, is a defunct parish that shares its government with two other defunct parishes. Barreiro, right next to it, is another example, as Barreiro is a municipality but also a defunct parish that is now run together with another parish. Most of these things have wildly varied historical reasons which are very hard to convey in Cities: Skylines I, or even Sim:City 2013 with its regions. This new feature finally allows me to create a "main" parish, slowly grow it, and over time simulate the founding of satellite parishes near it, all part of the same municipality, and the city hall can be moved around the parishes as history gives them the reasons to change their seat, just like real life. In my municipality, for example, a satellite parish eventually outgrew the main parish, this becoming the main one and relocating the city hall... Sadly we also don't have actual city halls, but a version of a city hall which runs the municipality, and then a town hall that runs the parish, both coexisting and having different functions, but that's a whole another story for another day, but essentially the city hall runs services like water, waste, high schools, etc., while the town hall and the parish mayor are a liaison between citizens and the municipal mayor, they make sure the city hall is doing their functions as law mandates, and also run some smaller services, such as maintaining public toilets or elementary schools.

Hello! Really enjoying this series and am very thankful for the way you do these episodes. I started watching before I actually got the game myself (a few days ago). Since then, I started my own city & didn't do *too*bad but ran into some frustrations with it so I decided to start another one to follow along. I'm up through the second episode and really feel I have a much better grasp of how/why/when for, well, pretty much everything so far. I fully intend to follow up for as long as this series goes on but twill be taking the things I learn and applying back to any other city or cities I build.
I do have a question, though. In the new area/town you built in this episode, did I miss where you put a medical center or where it was discussed *not* putting one. I ask as in the last (third) episode, a second clinic was added because the expansion left people complaining about the coverage. This new town is quite a distance, so shouldn't there be one there also? Or is the area just too small and until or unless they complain about it, just not have one?
Anyway, thanks again for this lovely, easy to follow tutorial series. Greatly appreciate the massive amount of time & effort this must take!

Now what that region needs next is a radio station, with you providing top-of-the-hour station IDs. (It would be cool to have something like that in-game.)

My greatest flaw in these games is having 0 insight of planning, layouts etc. I kinda just build. Which means it’s functional, but doesn’t look real. You definitely help out with the thought process behind this stuff. Love the Channel

This! This is what had me geeked out from the start, and what I missed from Sim City 4. Individual and unique regions that could specialize and fully integrate into a metropolis.

First chance to really look at some gameplay for Cities Skylines 2. Played the original a ton along with my wife who passed away in 2019... She went by NightVyxen and I am sure would love to know she is remembered in a game she would have loved, not sure where that could fit in but hey I often call my towns something like Muttville. I will say that I LOVE the way the farming stuff works, much more realistic than just having buildings you have to place to make things work on a grid.
Personally would love the viewing platform, worked at a theme park for a bit and was lift hill certified (was fine to walk to the top of the lift in case a coaster goofed) and often sat on the top of the log ride lift hill or a roller coaster employee only platform that were a few stories in the air. Also was lucky enough to have an apartment at one point that was 9 floors up when only a few other buildings in town were that tall, did a little maintenance work there and walked along a 3 foot wide ledge at one point due to a door malfunction I had to fix 7 stories up...
Have since moved to an even smaller town (approx 2k people) got a house that was falling apart for cheap. Trying my best to make it a nice home, replaced the electrical and water supply lines. Working on the roof which is killing my shoulder but since there are no roof fairies stopping by to do it for free I guess it's up to me to get things done. Already put insulation in the walls since there was none when we moved in which was a pain but at least mostly on the ground or short ladders so not as bad as the roof. Hopefully when I get things done I can start dedicating more time to getting a non-profit going that will help people whom have been through traumatic experiences as a child learn to SCUBA dive and make their lives a little bit better. It's one of the things I learned how to do after my wife was gone that has helped me tremendously.

I like the road stub for a future bridge. I've seen this a couple of time in some towns. In my small town there is a fast road (similar to a federal highway), that currently ends here and has a small stub where there is planning for it to continue one day.

you are turning me into a city planner, ok so im lacking in many areas but I wont just flatten the whole map anymore with this ep it shows clearly the rise and fall of the roads, its lovely and natural looking so im mimicking where I can, good job placing the water tower, its not cost-effective but you do see them irl.
    Name suggestion, Viewpoint.

Little tip with grading roads. You can grade over an existing road. The terrain wont change until you delete the road though. Just draw your road out, select the appropriate size grade brush for the road your using and trace over the road at the elevation you want. Delete the road and the terrain snaps to the elevation you drew in. Redraw your road over the newly graded terrain and your good to go. I use this to create canyons through hills and mountains and sunken roadways. You can make some clean looking walls of terrain with it too.

Fantastic video, as always.... I had never even thought of doing separate cities or maybe boroughs. This makes it more like Sim City 4 (I think) where you could build several independent cities and have them interact. This opens up a whole new way to play the game. Using the district tool is a great way to assess the individual cities but it would be great if we could get a City (district tool) and then within that district (city) we could set up further districts. That way would make it super realistic. Several cities all with individual districts within them....
Id like your thoughts if you read/see this comment. If not keep up the great work.

Something I noticed in your last video: When you chose apple tree's to decorate one of the arterial couplets, I think it can springboard to an interesting conversation about Hostile Architecture. If the city ever has a homeless population word will get around that there are apple trees and can be seen as a free source of food. Unless they are policed and well "protected", the homeless population will be encouraged to interface with a high traffic area for a source of food. Crossing the large road can be dangerous for everyone involved. Remember that Homeless don't have access to even the simplest safety features like reflective clothes, many of them have health issues and move at night during warmer months. I think it would be super interesting to hear how you've interfaced with this very real problem in your experience as a city builder!

Great video! Thanks! I would not have even thought to district the taxis. I guess you could do this with things like busses, and road maintenance, too right?
Also: "even out the slope so your houses aren't falling off the cliff." I couldn't help thinking: Unless maybe you are simulating La Jolla or something similar where rich people build on the cliff."

For the name, you have a nice little lake and the hill in town as well, could be called "Lake Hill" or as you wanted it to centre around the farming community, incorporating this lake perhaps call it "Farm Lake or "Farms Lake" - Just a thought :-) on another note, I would love the option for a Sherriff office and smaller cemeteries. Great videos, love your work!!

    Beautiful!
That remaining open area between the highway and the edge of the tile would be perfect for some rural houses.
The vanilla cemetery leaves a lot to be desired, I can't wait to see some custom ones that conform to terrain and do not always appear full and do not have massive parking lots. Actually I don't think I've ever seen more than 5 parking spots at any civilian cemetery, and even that felt odd seeing them.

A simple name that fits a random little town id expect to find out there - Clayton, Clay's town. Named after the 'Clay' family that were the original settlers who farmed this area. The wheat farm is still owned by the great grandchildren of the original Clay who also owned much of the land that was used for downtown but has long since been sold off into other hands or donated to the city, such as the park - except the cemetary, which is still owned by another descendant.
This is one reason why ive been absolutely loving this game - the opportunity to juat create chill little hamlets and small towns that fill the voids in areas around the US, each with their own little story and background.

The best gameplay of all, I love the way you make your reasonings in order to reach the realistic appearance, the editing, the pace, very much enjoyable, thank you. Also, I'd like to note that when comparing residents to jobs, it's better to consider the working population (i.e. adults) vs jobs, in this case there's a bit of unbalance, 250 vs.~450.

Thank you very much for lightening my interest: your voice and the pace of your speech are very relaxing so I watch your videos instead of working today (jk). And the content itself made me want to try it out to plan some cities on my own. Could you kindly give me a hint where I can read about the way you are doing these wonderful time-laps overviews of the progress at the end of each video? BTW your video-editing skills are top-notch too, with all these transitions and song names popping up

In Minnesota, there are actually a few cities where theyve turned older water towers into tourist attractions.
The one that comes to mind right now is the one in Highland Park (near Minneapolis.)
But there are a lot of super cool water towers all over Minnesota. Brainerd, and Lindstrom are 2 of the most famous. You cant climb those ones, but they're definitely unique. We call the one in Brainerd Paul Bunyan's Toilet 😅

love this series! im actually doing a build-along.. and between episodes, i save under a different name, then try to anticipate whate you are going to do, by building ahead..
I did NOT see another small comunity coming =)
Did i miss it or did you not place any medical clinic in the new cominuty?
Wont that leave them a bit stranded or put too much stress on the two medical clinic you have? or did you place more?
