    A lot of thoughts put into the chestburster practical effect. This is pure old school filmmaking.

    Just realizing this but the chestburster isn’t just smaller cuz of Aileen Wu but also cuz of the accelerated and possibly even premature lifecycle.

    • @deadshot7062

      That’s what I thought too when I saw the film. Like she wakes back up to instantly everyone in a panic that is stressed her enough for the chest buster to come out almost immediately. It probably might also explain the cocoon after like a second incubation.

    • @juiceekay7428
      @juiceekay7428 Месяц назад +8

      @@deadshot7062 I think the cocoon is something that does happen in a normal Xeno lifecycle especially with how Fede explained it. The cocoon determines how many biomechanical features a Xeno may have. Hence why in the movies each Xeno looks different than the others & why Scorch has his signature lightning bolt Scar.

    Not to take anything away from Alec Gillis, but while Giger designed the Alien Xeno and did some drawings and sculptures of the facehugger and chestburster for the movie, the chestburster design as we know it came from Roger Dicken who was a practical effects artist in the UK. Gigers chestburster looked more like a small turkey and was rejected by Ridley Scott. Roger Dicken sculpted a new chestburster that resembled the longer head of the adult xeno blending into the body and tail with some direction from Ridley and created the final design. He also created a backup animatronic puppet when the main one failed to break through the shirt and act in a convincing way. So the one we see on screen is actually his hand operated puppet. He sadly passed away in Feb. 2024 and he often doesn't get the credit he deserves for the original film, where he did a lot of the work that appeared on screen in many of the iconic moments.

    To Alec Gillis: H R Giger didn´t design the Chestburster. Well, he did, but his "bloody turkey"design was never used. It was Roger Dicken who came up with the Chestburster design that we all know. He also improved and gave the iconic look to the Facehugger.

    Romulus is a great addition and sorely needed. However the original face hugger, to this day, is the most realistic thing of that type from any of the other movies. There is something that actual organic bits, including the Nottingham lace on the original egg, that cannot be matched by synthetic goop. Another thing the Alien still has over all of the other movies is silence. The music, for the most part is low key and barely there. The ships sounds were more of the sound track than any music. Romulus, as good as it is, had the music too loud in the sound mix. Still I loved the practical effects. Also the blood in Alien was more realistic in the chest burster scene. The blood, coming out of the chest, would be under high pressure being arterial. It would be spraying out. Anyway Well done!

  • @bluebirdsigma
    @bluebirdsigma Месяц назад

    The only thing I would have changed is the blood. The chestburster needed to be bloodier, like Kane.
