Saw it when it cam out in '79, in a theater in the middle of the day. air was on and it was chilly. then EVERYTHING takes place in the black cold void of space. Yeah, it WAS creepy, actually. Tagline: "In space, no one can hear you scream"
4:245:506:00 The whole LV426 landscape and the interior of the Derelict with the Space Jockey is just pure art. All real sets. Truly otherworldly. A lot of them aren’t even in the final film, which is a shame, they look absolutely gorgeous.
This movie demonstrates how important the set is to the film. I'm a big scifi fan, but never have I seen such attention to detail as in Alien. Perhaps it's because Ridley started his career as a set decorator that makes all of his films so special. I actually worked for one week on Bladerunner, on I noticed that even the tiniest details were made to look like the "real thing," things you would never even see on camera. For example, I noticed that on the parking meters on the streets scenes, it read: "15-minute parking, $50." a price that would be ludicrous when the movie was made, but in the future was probably spot-on. That's why his films will always be a joy to watch forever. They are complete works of art.
Alien is a perfect masterpiece. I've watched this movie countless times, and always with the same pleasure than the first time I saw it when I was still a child. Many years later, I was lucky enough to meet the late Giger during a book signing session in Paris. I asked him to dedicate me his last book with a personal line: "To Chris, the 9th passenger of the Nostromo". This was a reference to the french title of Alien which is "Alien, the 8th passenger". At first, Giger was a bit surprised by my strange request, but then he smiled when he understood its reason. He then signed my copy of his book with the sentence I asked for and he gave me the signed book with a approbation nod. Thank you Ridley Scott and Hans Ruedi Giger, I've never found the Nostromo's exit despite all these years thanks to your awesome work. 😍
Thanks for this ! Along with its terrific technical achievements, Alien features excellent acting from its entire cast. It was, in particular, a career - boosting film for both of its actresses. Alien put Sigourney Weaver firmly on the map and she soon went on to be one of the best actresses of her time. Alien also revived Veronica Cartwright's career as an adult. She had been one of the busiest and best child actresses of the 60s in both films and television but her career hit a lag in the early seventies when she was too old for youth roles but not old enough for adult parts (or so the industry bigwigs thought). Cartwright's uncanny ability to effectively convey dread and fear in her performances is one of a kind.
This is the main reason I do not judge a movie because I do not know what went into creating everything. And this was a 1978 production. Way ahead of it's time for created special effects. Remarkable in every way and one of my fav flicks of all time. Thanks for the post!
enjoyed watching it again recently, the cast, they were all so good....right! it holds up well to present day sci fi, the whole Alien franchise is brilliant.
Even accounting for inflation, it's amazing what film-makers could achieve on the budgets they were given back then. Consider that the entire budget of Alien would probably be the salary for one actor in many of even second-rate films these days.
What I think plays a big part in making a good movie is dialogue. And they don’t make dialogue like they used to, in this movie these are like real people talking, sometimes over each other and that’s just something we don’t even see anymore and I find that very unfortunate.
Yes, it is a fantastic Film, ever, its strange now see how was done all the things, before shooting, a lot of work for so many people, and this is good... Great Movie, I enjoyed A Lot till Today....
I was just out of college, working as a FA for United based at LAX. (Worst job ever. But I digress.) I love SciFi, I had day off and I knew absolutely nothing about this movie. Bottom line, the kids who were sitting in front of me asked, “Dude, please stop screaming. We’re trying to watch the movie.”
I agree Alien and Aliens. Are the real movies. Life wasn't very fair to the others. Look at other movies. Like Jaws. We only needed one. We got four. The Xenomorph doesn't need explaining.
I had to wear a spacesuit in a modern film. It was 115 pounds and 110 degrees inside. We would take our gloves off and pour the sweat out. It was absolutely exhausting, but we were happy to have been part of the cast. I get it, for sure.
Studio executives are real assholes. All they care about is the bottom line on a spreadsheet and nothing else. They can't see the art for what it is. They can't see the passion that the cast and crew put into a project. You need a hide like a rhino to deal with those people.
One of the greatest low budget space horror films of all time. Unmatched to this day.

It wasn´t low budget at all.
Please learn the definition of low budget. Fox LITERALLY doubled the budget when Ridley Scott presented his storyboards for the film.
Possibly one of the best sci-fi horror films
Possibly one of the best films of all time, not just sci-fi horror, or horror, or sci-fi.
Name a better sci fi horror, sir.
@@southlondon86Aliens and Predator
@@southlondon86The Thing. Maybe not better, but equally as good, in my view.
@@brianedwards1733 Both great but they don’t beat Alien.
Monster movies have no right to be masterpieces. This one broke the mould.

2nd to the thing
This is still one of the best movies ever made. In my top 5 and always will be.
Alien 1 & 2 only for me, rest were flogging a dead horse.
I agree!
2 and 3 are at the same level. Very different and pleasant but nothing to compare with the first one, absolute classic jewel.
Yes, I agree.
Agreed. A1 one of the best horror movies ever made, A2 a great action film.
I agree
set the bar for sci-fi horror movies....hasn't been surpassed....not even close....one of my favorite movies of all time.

A Perfect Film. Timeless.
The music was absolutely mesmerising
Such a masterful movie, who knew they could be so creative in 1978, when everything was powered by coal?
Perfect. I'm from 1978, coal dust and moonbeams.

A low budget film was able to make a terrifying realm. Utterly remarkable
Kinda the same as the upcoming Alien Romulus!
11 million dollars wasn’t really a low budget in 1979. However it was obvious that it was paid for by the profits from Star Wars.
Wasn't low budget at all
3:00 guy already said the budget is very low like dude

Really good movie today as well 45 years later 🎉🎉
The soundscore is out of this world 👍
I love this pre-CGI era. They really need to know what a huge fantastic job they did on this movie!
Brilliant, Alien is my No 1 movie bar none, maybe Aliens

Do make them like they used to.

When studio executives don't care about movies. Thankfully Ridley told them all to f off and he had the backing of Alan Ladd Jr.
The movie I will always watch again and again
A masterpiece!!! 💪💪💪
Best out the alien franchise

Brilliant minds
Brilliant!
전설의 시작. 무려 1979년부터
That ship set sounds like it was a fire trap
It also looks it
The original is by far the scariest.
For me this was as big as Star Wars, Jaws,
Cant even believe how they made the scenes with those limited tech back then
Sister of the Lost in Space girl?
Lovely. Good English.
Nr 1
Just ripped the dvd extra features?
Suits me. I got a boxed-set that no "extras".
this movie was a big hit, so why did they take 7 years to make the sequel?if a movie is a big hit they dont wait 7 years to make a sequel.
Don't worry, AI movie making will top this old, outdated, movie style and genre..just like they did to comedy.
is this taken from the full BTS movie
They could've used simpler spacesuits. It would've worked just as well.
❤
Make a remake TransAlien
Don’t understand why Skerett bitched about hanging about the set waiting when he was getting paid a load either there or not!
Not bugget, but expensive film

poor actors nothing like the military has to go through
Ahhhh, when behind the scenes wasn´t constant ass kissing between actors and higher ups.
Quit griping, I like griping
Ridley owes me 2 hours and 45 minutes for the garbage Napoleon tripe I sat through…….
The dude is a legend, but he needs to retire.
Movie production waste a lot of materials. All that construction only to be torn down soon after and end up in landfill.

these writers copied that older italian film lol. vampires from outer space or something.
Planet of the vampires
Great movie. Huge sets
The Fiend without a Face and It! The Terror from Beyond Space also influenced Alien
Definitely an influence, but Alien is clearly superior.
