They said they didn’t include the breathing spore situation because it would be unrealistic that anyone would survive that at all because spores goes through air rapidly and doesn’t really contain to certain places (specially in a post apocalyptic world), which we all know very well from the recent real life events.
Exactly. Spores would travel and infect too easily like they do IRL. Plus we don’t need Pedro masked up on screen most of the time again like Mando. They’d also have to explain that certain concentrations of spores don’t infect some people and that’s just too easy to have a convoluted explanation.
It might just be head canon, but for some reason I thought the game explained that the spores died in uv light or something, which is why they weren't really a problem outside?
I wondered this in the first episode when they made it to the subway tunnel maintenance room and the huge spore was growing out of the wall. They were all stepping on it and the whole time I was like “ok one of them at the very least will get infected…” Nope 😂
I had never played the game but was wondering what of the fungal spores. I feel like the director is trying to make real world problem not feel like the real world. Which is still a bummer. The distress is in the title so if they had put the spores in it would’ve separated the show from a regular “zombie movie.”
To explain the spore removal: It's likely to spare them from having to explain the plot hole created from the fact that in the game, simply wearing a gas mask is enough to avoid exposure from breathing in the spores where in real life, you'd essentially have to torch everything that would have come into contact with the spores to avoid spreading them. Grounds the story in reality a bit without affecting the game's narrative
Yes, that is something that confused me about the games. They cross through spore contaminated regions and afterwards just put their masks off when they'd really need a full on decontamination, including getting rid of (and burn) all their clothes, thoroughly showering with the masks still on and ideally shaving off all exposed hair 🤔
For everyone who didn't play the games, be warned: this show will absolutely break your heart and it draw you in and terrify you at the same time. Amazing storytelling, amazing characters and a realistic view of a very bewildered world. Joel and Ellie are not simple hero's without flaws, just like the "villains" in the story are not pure evil (well maybe except for 1). I hope the series will do the game justice, because it deserves an amazing adaptation.
Got you bro, and I respect your love for the games, but I agree with them above, it could still turn out different in tv series format. Doh I hope the best ! And sorry, not played the games, but checked the gameplays and breakdowns 🎉

I will say that I was skeptical about the spores being removed also, but after watching the 1st two episodes of the show (and after beating both games) I realized why they did it and it makes perfect sense. In the game the spores are stationary, localized in one area or room of a building so it's easy to see and put on your mask. In real life, the spores would spread everywhere, which means that anytime they went inside a place Joel would always have to mask up, and that would kinda kill his facial expressions and reactions. Plus, Pedro Pascal already does this in the Mandalorian so it would be redundant for him.
Please play it after… the first game that legitimately made me cry more than once.. first time I finished it I couldn’t stop thinking about it for weeks
TRIVIA: in the video game, those screams, growls, cries that the infected do are their human conscious effect. they said that the infected are still conscious during their infection state and their minds and body reacts in despair knowing the fact that they can’t do nothing to stop the spreading of the infection… a slow agonizing reality that death is slowly having a toll on them as they conscious live the rest of their lives knowing that they can’t do nothing to stop the spreading of the infection.
@@matiassakkinen1564I think GOT is the only time they got to cocky with a show, and extended the show like crazy just for money. I can't remember another one
I played this game just 4 months ago. When my friend told me about this game I ignored it but after playing both the games I'm really hyped for this show. Even though they did Joel dirty in the second game. The 1st game is one of my absolute favourite.
Joel had it coming if we’re honest with ourselves. I know that feeling but after thought and a 2nd play through I appreciated the consequences served and how they were delivered (even if it hurt).
One of the few games that left me speechless after it ended. Games are a funny thing that are so individual and personal to the player. They aren't something you can truly share in real-time with others. To try and express how great a story this is you have to be a gamer who has played it. That being said, it looks so promising that this is going to open up that experience to others that may not play games and who knows - may make them want to pick up a controller to see what it's all about.
This is the only game that ive not jsut refused to see any content of or walkthroughs because as a gamer I know when a gamer tells me how good a game is, its best to take their word and set aside a weekend and play it yourself. I am about to buy the games and jump in. I feel like this long has been to long to not treat myself to what every gamer ive ever talked to has praised about.
I worked on the show and my kid and partner LOVE the game. From what they’ve told me about the game, I really believe the OG fans are absolutely going to love the show. Happy watching folks!
I've been gaming since 1988 on the good old Sinclair ZX spectrum, and have played all major systems since that time up till this day Console and PC. The Last of Us series for me personally was the pinnacle of gaming, it combined my favourite genres and the storytelling was the best thing I had seen, and have seen since. I am very excited for a masterpiece in gaming, come alive even further in the show and hopefully will encourage more effort made into turning gaming gold into the bog and small screen adventures!!
The last of us part one was a masterpiece that still stands as one of the best games I’ve played in my entire life, on any Console or platform, PC or Mac anything. It represents the ultimate example that every other company should strive for in terms of cut scenes. And also, the gameplay is great, but, as great as it is, and as enjoyable as it was, I found myself playing it with intensity, so that I can reach the next cut scene. As you mention, Ryan, it is a master craft example of storytelling. I personally played the second game, and at the end of it I had the same level of fulfillment as the first one. Once again, the storytelling was magnificent. It is such a rare thing that any movie or game can bring out emotional attachment the way these games did for me. Simply put, to me they are masterpieces. I am looking forward to the show immensely. And, I agree that changes made in service to the story will not ruin it for me. The show will not be the games, but it should embody the spirit of the game’s story.
@@RemingtonSteel Iused to feel that way, until this game came along. Most games with cut scenes don’t use them properly. It is so rewarding in this game to reach them for me that I have never seen its equal.
Yeah, both games for me were intense, and I found myself gripping the controller so tightly subconsciously while playing through some of the more stressful parts. The lady is not a gamer, but she loved to turn the lights off and watch me play through the games. They're that good.
Removing the spores as the source for infection is understandable in a cinematic setting. If they kept that in, everyone would be in constant gasmask gear as they are mostly outside.. hard to read facial expressions for dramatic effect in a gasmask. Not only that, it would sound annoying when you hear people talk through that mask every episode. I think it was the smart move to make for an adaptation made for television.
From what I can tell, most people who hate Part 2 didn’t even play the game and went off a leak (that was wrong) or listened to streamers’ opinions that also didn’t play it. That game is fantastic, 10/10.
I played the game when it first came out and I wasn’t a huge fan of it but I decided to play it again to try and give it a shot to redeem itself and I personally don’t like the game simply because of the storyline. But that’s my personal opinion and I’m very happy that some people genuinely enjoy the game :)
4:15-4:31 Some of those did cross my mind. 12:11 & 13:16 I didn’t know those details. 12:41 & 12:46 The inclusion of “Circle of Life” after that line was a nice touch.
They filmed here in Southern Alberta. I could hear them filming and saw lots of sets. Where I work managed to make some parts for one of the sets. I was very close to being an extra, but my friend is an extra in the opening scene of the first episode.
@@mrgreatbigmoose hi back from High River! They closed highway 2 one night for filming! I could hear and see a bit from my bedroom. Can't believe they closed a major highway.

I guarantee that the adaptation of TLOU 2 will be VERY DIFFERENT (no spoilers) than the game, so I'm sure they will have to find different motivations for one of our beloved characters going forward as opposed to the one they chose for the game narrative.

There is a great video from The Game Theorists about why Ellie might be immune, in case anyone is interested. It's a great combination of science and fun.
I literally just finished the first game during Christmas break and I'm feverishly trying to finish the DLC before the show starts. I'm super excited!!
I played and loved the game, I watched the first episode and defiantly wanted more when it was over. Seems to be pretty well done and now I am even more excited for this show.
you can also consider the way they eat the strawberries- Bill eats his at the front, indicating there is still more time, more things to look forward to, whereas Frank eats his toward the end, indicating that he his on barrowed time
I am honestly incomprehensibly hyped for this show, so far it looks fucking phenomenal - in the game, even after several replays, the best parts are just exploring, despite the linear progression and lack of free roam elements, the world building and detail is just off the charts immense; I can’t wait to see what they’ve done regarding set design, the skyscrapers in the teaser give me extremely high hopes and the fact the team behind Chernobyl are involved? I also like that they’re deviating from the game, means I’ve actually got surprises in store despite knowing the gist of what happens, honestly can’t understand how anyone could have a problem with that, there’d be far less need to watch it if it were a fully faithful recreation. Goddamn just release it now already.
It was the first game last of us I actually played till the end. And watched idk how many walk throughs!!. . Now the second part. I still have ptsd from it, and love Pedro pascal, imma be in tears 😢😢😢
90% of the folks who hated Part 2 are just literally bigots. The other 10% are annoying, spoiled gamers who are mad they didn’t get their way. Thankfully they’re not game devs or writers. Prove me wrong. It was a masterpiece through and through, and up until recently, it was THE MOST AWARDED game of all time!
Probably won’t watch the show for a while since I don’t have HBO but I adore the Last Of Us game series. This video helped me understand the evolution of the infected better so thank you!! 😊
Yes, I'm also still very much debating whether I want to spend 50 € on a minimum 6-month subscription to a streaming service that I otherwise couldn't care less about, just to be able to watch a single show. Of course I'm very excited, but firstly I'm not angry with my money and secondly I don't want to support such business practices either.
I'm excited for it. I saw someone tag Ashley Johnson and because she's one of my favorites from Critical Role I had to know what it was about.. the fact that Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey are in it too just makes my heart happy. I love what I've seen of the game and would buy a PlayStation for this game only. I can't wait to sit down and watch this weekend (I'm behind, I know. I did this with House of the Dragon too).
I just got number 2 and made it back through the flooded city, and the graphics and gameplay are fkn outstanding. Made midnight suns look like shit until the gameplay made it awesome as well. So hyped for this. And Murray Bartlett has so many shows right now, white lotus, chippendales, now this? Damn Murray
Man its so cool being able to just drive by and see the set. Very lucky to have this being filmed in our city, also incredibly fitting. Also thanks Joe Rogan for teaching me about corticep spores
The story is the first exposure… I may end up playing the game as a result - intrigued - and it’s really exciting for my teens who haven’t been able to get me to “game” with them…
The people that did the clickers, not to mention the FOREIGN VOICE ACTORS (for overseas release) also reprised their roles in this adaptation! This show has raised the bar! That's for certain.
Ryan, I am definitely looking forward to your breakdowns on each individual episode of The Last of Us! Three more days. I haven't been this excited for a Show in a long while.
Didn’t play the game but from what you have described it sounds a lot like the walking dead mobile game with Clementine. Which broke my heart in many many many pieces.
I am not a gamer and have never played the game or know anything about it. I am on the comic book side of Nerd Tree. Thank you for making this video!! Now I can be in cannon with Nerd Proper. I love all your videos and can't wait for the one to come out. Keep it up!!
Personally, I loved part two. As a matter of fact, I’m replaying it right now for the third time, and I still find myself very into it loving the story and I’ve already replayed part one like four times and it still holds up. I know the show has made some slight changes to some characters, and that kind of bothers me but I’m not gonna let that from watching the show. either way I hope the writing is top-notch. I know the show looks amazing from what I’ve seen in the trailers. and I’m just waiting for part three to come out.
I have to say I enjoy your videos so much. You seem like such a kind person, and your attention to detail and insight are unparalleled. Cute dog too :) x
Can't wait to watch. But I gotta say, even tho I love everything Pablo Pascal has been in, I would of gone with John Krasinski for this. But that being said I'm super hyped to see what Pablo brings to the Joel role.
If they ever adapt TLOU 2 as Season 2, I want it to be exactly like the game. It will prove how powerful the story is. It is so powerful that it will make you mad, it will make you cry, it will make you think, it will make you accept. I personally think that the fans who didn't like TLOU2 are still stuck at the "getting mad" phase. This is the only game I have ever played that had an emotional impact. I hope the series live up to the expectations.
Excellent video, Ryan! I was hoping you'd do something like this... maybe we can get some Jedi Fallen Order / Jedi Survivor content in the near future, from you & Doug?
Never owned a game console, only ever been a PC gamer so have not played the game. Very much looking forward to the series as I've always heard how good the game and story was. Cheers for the recap.
Well played with the "giving birth" analysis! I actually didn't like the game's ending, but I think I'll like the show better since it's so made for television.
Fun fact: human echolocators exist in real-life. It's used by some blind people, usually by making clicking sounds, and can be taught. In fact, many (perhaps most) children who are born blind figure out how to do this on their own, but are discouraged out of it by adults who don't know what they're doing.
When you went to pharmacy school and all you can think while watching the show is Amphoterrible (an anti fungal drug with really bad side effects, Amphotericin B, hence the terrible moniker) Also confused why red means positive when green should mean positive.
Terrific game, I played it on the ps3, an extraordinary experience. Didn't play the second part because the first one was enough for me, I didn't need more
The Last of Us part 2 is amazing, I don’t get all the hate. I am so excited about this TV adaption, it’s one of my favorite game series on second to Mass Effect.
GOT was a let down but HBO showed thru House of the Dragon that they learned their lesson. It's why I have high hopes that HBO knows what the fans want just like they did with HOTD.
Being a Walking Dead fan, I think this series will be very similar in its use of character development and then the shocking demise of that character. As in TWD, TLOU is using a very successful method of storytelling with characters built up then characters destroyed. It's kind of like the sweet lovable dog that everyone likes but then 99% of the time dies in the movie. A series like this, along with TWD is an emotional rollercoaster and even though fictious seems to seep into the brain and subconscious and, in a way bring to light the very possible demise of humankind.

Be sure jump on multiplayer...you'll appreciate it more. 10yrs later and people still joining in. Keep em comin
Would really love to see your Last of Us video game review/thoughts with spoilers.
I would, too.
There are so many ways to watch it not just on HBO as long as you have internet bruh
The fact that your cat is in the gameplay makes me love it even more! 😅
That clicker sound to this day still sends shivers down my spine. Cant wait to see it in the show
I just got number 2 and made it back through the flooded city, and the graphics and gameplay are fkn outstanding. Made midnight suns look like shit until the gameplay made it awesome as well. So hyped for this. And Murray Bartlett has so many shows right now, white lotus, chippendales, now this? Damn Murray
Be sure play TLOU multiplayer... 10yrs later and people still joining in. Keep em comin 🔫💣💀☠️💀🔥🔥🔥
Man its so cool being able to just drive by and see the set. Very lucky to have this being filmed in our city, also incredibly fitting. Also thanks Joe Rogan for teaching me about corticep spores
Just watched the first episode. The show is amazing so far. Especially the parts that come straight from the game
The story is the first exposure… I may end up playing the game as a result - intrigued - and it’s really exciting for my teens who haven’t been able to get me to “game” with them…
Welcome ScreenCrush from Alberta Canada!
both games are peak in terms of story and emotional journey
The people that did the clickers, not to mention the FOREIGN VOICE ACTORS (for overseas release) also reprised their roles in this adaptation!
This show has raised the bar! That's for certain.
Ryan, I am definitely looking forward to your breakdowns on each individual episode of The Last of Us! Three more days. I haven't been this excited for a Show in a long while.
Didn’t play the game but from what you have described it sounds a lot like the walking dead mobile game with Clementine. Which broke my heart in many many many pieces.
As a Gamer and a big Fan of the LAST OF US game series, I'm 101% sure this is going to be one of 2023's greatest series. 🤞🤞🤞
Ryan this is my 1st time into this universe as I am a PC gamer and the game of this is not out till March 23 but so far I am loving the TV show
I am not a gamer and have never played the game or know anything about it. I am on the comic book side of Nerd Tree. Thank you for making this video!! Now I can be in cannon with Nerd Proper. I love all your videos and can't wait for the one to come out. Keep it up!!
W Earl Brown was great in There’s Something About Mary “pork and beans”
I’m glad I stumbled upon this video during the show when they jumped 20 years I didn’t know what was going on!😮
thanks for this video... never played the game but I'm excited by this series
Well. It's about time you talked about this
I never played the game but you made me excited to watch the show. Thanks bud
Jump on the game 🎮 it's only like 10bucks... Also play the multiplayer mode, you'll really appreciate it then. Keep em comin 🔫💣💀☠️💀🔥🔥🔥
Ok, the Twitter line from Doug nearly made me choke on my lunch. Well done!
Yeah, Ryan's comedy game (via Doug) has been so so good the last couple months.
Wow what an absolutely beautiful video! just was I was looking for ❤️
I have to say I enjoy your videos so much. You seem like such a kind person, and your attention to detail and insight are unparalleled. Cute dog too :) x
Doug! Thank you for more Doug. He was hilarious this ep.
I love the games and im from Pittsburgh so i hope they still go there in the show
I’m glad they are doing some back story with bill and frank
Thank you for ALL this hard work. You've helped immensely.
Thank you Ryan for coverage this game your breakdown, and analysis Alway spot on👌🏾
Can't wait to watch.
I was hoping you'd do something like this... maybe we can get some Jedi Fallen Order / Jedi Survivor content in the near future, from you & Doug?
excellent video Ryan! I didn't know about a lot of the casting choices they had made. so exciting!!
Never owned a game console, only ever been a PC gamer so have not played the game. Very much looking forward to the series as I've always heard how good the game and story was. Cheers for the recap.
The game comes out on the PC soon so I hope you get a chance to play it.
Also jump on multiplayer, you'll appreciate it more. Keep em comin
Well played with the "giving birth" analysis!
I actually didn't like the game's ending, but I think I'll like the show better since it's so made for television.
This was a really great video, would really love if you covered more games in this channel 🥰
Great job explaining this!!
Fun fact: human echolocators exist in real-life. It's used by some blind people, usually by making clicking sounds, and can be taught. In fact, many (perhaps most) children who are born blind figure out how to do this on their own, but are discouraged out of it by adults who don't know what they're doing.
When you went to pharmacy school and all you can think while watching the show is Amphoterrible (an anti fungal drug with really bad side effects, Amphotericin B, hence the terrible moniker)
Also confused why red means positive when green should mean positive.
"So, it's Twitter?" Doug wins the internet. What a good boy.
Terrific game, I played it on the ps3, an extraordinary experience.
Didn't play the second part because the first one was enough for me, I didn't need more
The person who does the voice for Bill should’ve played as the character Bill! He would’ve been amazing!
I don’t play any video games. But love this show so far!
"So it's Twitter?"
Ha! Good one Doug
The Last of Us part 2 is amazing, I don’t get all the hate. I am so excited about this TV adaption, it’s one of my favorite game series on second to Mass Effect.
Wow, that was fantastic. Thank you.
Offerman appeared in Deadwood, too
Episode was absolutely amazing and TLOU2 is a masterpiece just as much as the first.
Couldn’t play the game but am SO EXCITED for the show!!!
Also I really hope they make Part II (two seasons minimum.
I really hope they bring tendrils into pt 3 Siri forces you to have to stealth a lot more cautiously try not to step on the fungus
Truly one of the best video games ever. Makes me want to fire up the old ps4 again
FIRE IT UP .... Multiplayer is SIZZLING STILL AFTER 10 YRS, PEOPLE JOINING IN. KEEP EM COMIN... ITS LIKE RIDING A BIKE 😆
I've played the game about 10 times, I think I'm ready
GOT was a let down but HBO showed thru House of the Dragon that they learned their lesson. It's why I have high hopes that HBO knows what the fans want just like they did with HOTD.
Except for lighting night scenes properly. They’re still iffy on that lesson.
I’m hyped for it.
All I hope for this show is to be gratified with an Eliot Page cameo.
Yea that would be awesome. With all the CGI I thought they would have brought her back and just use CGI 😂
Love that your cat is an Easter egg in the game.
