There’s a very small percentage of us who love heavy metal for the instruments but don’t really enjoy metal screaming. One of my favorite bands is Nevermore because they are exactly like this!
I think the clean vocals come in way too loud. Took the energy out of it and made it go from a nice polished sounding mix , to someone singing in their car. I don't mean that in a hateful way, but in a constructive manner
that’s so much more complicated than just writing a riff on guitar in real time lmao i can’t imagine someone doing this in a real situation this just feels like one of those things you do just to say you do it and be different.. it’s like writing a riff and translating it to MIDI bass; but backwards. seems so counterintuitive but ig in the proper workflow environment it can make something cool, just still feels like a lot of extra work

Whatever works for you man. The piano roll feels more intuitive to me because it's 1-dimensional, whereas a fretboard is 2-dimensional.
