If you've ever been stuck trying to write a riff, this video should provide you with a new framework to apply when trying to write:
1 - What is your INTENTION? What do you want the listener to feel/understand?
2 - Be more deliberate in your INCEPTION:
a) Be conscious of when you're NOODLING and let it guide you into your most comfortable patterns;
b) When that gets stale, switch from your right brain to your left brain and PLAY NOTES FROM YOUR HEAD: think about what you'd like to hear and find the best way to play them on the fretboard according to your initial INTENTION!

There actually is if your brain works that way maybe?, I hear unmade sounds and songs in my head throughout the day everyday and it's always different so really all you gotta do is try and capture the sounds in your head as nolly says 😂 I think

A lot of times when I'm noodling on my guitar I'll come up with a bunch of real short attention getting riffs or melodies but when I try to expand on them I always hit the wall and get shut down. I'll give this a try and see if it helps...........

Man, I needed this video!! As a guitarist of over 10 years, my BIGGEST struggle has always been writing. I’ll spend hours at my computer always unhappy with the outcome, and usually get stuck in the “noodling” phase (playing variants of basically the same riff) until I get depressed enough to walk away :(

playing variants of the same riff is basically the best way to write a whole Song out of 1 Idea.keep going!

Perfect advice man. I don't know how many times I sit around trying to force the next part or play random sections trying to jam them together and it doesn't work. Like you said, letting it play in your head and hearing what you want next then trying to find it has been the best thing for me. "Intention" has made writing for me so much easier. Great stuff as always man!

great video super helpful! It’s cool because I do a lot of the same things as you when I try to write but was never really aware of it. The combination of noodling and notes in your head is something that I’ve wrote some of my best riffs with, but like I said I never realized what I was doing. Now that I am self aware of it this will definitely help my songwriting become much more intentional and less random. Many thanks👍
