Bro you deserve more views on these videos. Amazing song. I learned from your drum programming and riff writing videos that these help break my writiers block so much. Keep it up dude!!!
Thank you for the kind words. I'm always stoked that what helps me write and break writers block helps other out as well. Thanks for watching and if you have a genre I should try next time let me know. As well as if you have any suggestions for videos !
Thank you so much. If you haven’t listened to the final version in the link check it out. I added production and put in the extra song writing Let me know what style I should try next in an hour
Haha yeah I was super nervous. Super happy with how it turned out in the end and I barely changed the chorus drums. Keeping it simple worked really well in the end. I learned a lot hah Thanks for watching !
Thanks TQ! I’m trying to make as many videos as I can while I have the time to. I have quite a bit of work coming up in the next few weeks so it’ll be challenging to keep it consistent but I’m definitely going to try. Thanks for watching and giving me a reason to make more !
Thanks Gabe! I appreciate that and it definitely doesn’t always turn out haha. Lucky it did this time. Although most times I feel like I can come up with at least 3 riffs I like in that time. 5 this time around was super fortunate for this video haha haha
I like these videos. Its fun to watch your process and its pretty informative too. Also it was funny to see you pleasantly surprised with the transitions lol The song was cool!
Haha thank you so much! I really enjoy doing these for myself and getting over the whole self conscious thing of like playing super sloppy while figuring out what the riff will be but I’m glad people enough them. I was mostly shocked at how off it sounded lmao but also I knew that the right drum part and transition would make it sick. I actually really love the way the final song turned out
Genuinely glad to see Ableton being used by other heavy bands. Such a secret weapon that most people miss because they pass it off as "oh thats for edm, im good" lol Curious as to if you have ever used any asspact of Ableton in a Live setting? We've replaced almost our entire live rig with Ableton at this point and it comes in super clutch.
Hell yeah. After trying Ableton I literally won’t go back to writing in any other DAW. It’s too quick and easy to experiment with sounds and get ideas down. I’ve used it live when Musical Directing artists I’ve played with, and Jon (Northlane) uses it to run the live show with his synth patches and extra tracks.
Ouu that would have been a good idea! I unfortunately did all of that off camera later when I was re recording the guitars. I’m finished up the video of how I add production though so that should be out hopefully on the weekend ! Thanks for watching. Maybe I’ll do that on a future song
Haha it’s all good, thanks for watching regardless. It’s hard finding a decent time to do the premieres taking in that everyone lives somewhere else in the world. I just go of what time RUclips tells me most of the viewers are on. Maybe Sunday’s might be better
I absolutely did haha. But if was able to salvage it in the end I believe. Check out the final version if you haven’t yet Thanks so much for watching and enjoying the content
Very similar to screams but less distortion, I end up cutting a lot more low end out and have a ping pong delay to carry the vocals more. Everything else is up to your ears
I just wanted to say thanks again for the amazing content. Much love from Montréal! Would be super cool to have a Discord Community or a Patreon to support you even further :) Love the hoodie choice too! Thoughts on Obsidian??
Thank you so much for the kind words. I’ve definitely thought about it, I just don’t know what I could offer more in a Patreon or Discord than what I provide on RUclips. I guess once I monetize on RUclips there will be more opportunities Ahaha thank you! I have this hoodie from our 2013 tour hahaha. I love it. Jon is one of the best song writers in the world. Definitely in the heavy genre. What did you think?
@@BrendonKPadjasek Monetizing on RUclips is a great start for sure! What I think might also be beneficial is extending to a monthly Patreon $5, $10, $15/$20 a month tiers for instance. Where the base gives you all the updates before it hits general public and a Discord server access, the mid-tier gives you access to votes/polls for what to see next and third tier might be old demos or material you've worked on in the past with a private channel for those supporters etc. Just an idea of course! Not like I'm biased in any way having created the Northlane one with a couple online friends and managing it for the band haha Obsidian is peak Northlane in my opinion. It's just got everything. Nasty riffs, amazing electronic elements throughout, love the heaviness and softness juxtaposed. Plus a few throwbacks to having Node elements, Mesmer elements as well as the evolution to Alien (even though I think this record is heavier lyric wise, angry-marcus vocal wise)
That’s a very good point. I guess my concern is that I don’t do RUclips stuff full time so I’d have to make a serious effort to supply the Patreon with stuff that you don’t get on RUclips. And sometimes I can’t put out a RUclips video every week haha
@@BrendonKPadjasek Very fair points! Every band/person's patreon varies for sure. Some are constantly active, others pop in every so often while the supporters get to enjoy the special perks I for one, would love to be able to support your channel cause I've loved what you've done in Structures, in Northlane and even solo stuff. Plus it was super cool meeting you during the Alien VIP! Either way, if ever you want to get your feet wet and potentially start a little Patreon, it'd be my pleasure to help 😁
I haven’t unfortunately. Usually for songs on this channel I don’t end up adding vocals unless the purpose of the video is vocal related. Thanks for watching !
Man I love your content. This may be a silly question but how do you record these? Is it a special part about your DAW that lets your record your audio the whole time even when you’re not recording your guitar tracks? I use protools and as far as I’m aware on that, I can’t have a mic and guitar input recording permanently while laying down, and re recording guitar takes without stopping all tracks recording at once I know that’s confusing so no worries if my question doesn’t make sense. Cheers
Hmmm that might be the way I’m recording from OBS. If you see the audio moving in Ableton, then I’m recording, if you hear the audio and guitar without seeing the recording than it’s likely just OBS and then I add the amp to the signal in Resolve when I’m editing the video Thank you so much!
Thanks so much! I have the gear I’m using listed in the description. Stl will Putney for this and Josh Middleton for leads if I remember correctly and GGD invasion for drums. I also route them out to their own channel so I can mix them to sound the way they sound now haha I have an Hour long video on how I mix a track that I posted a couple months ago if you’re interested in that at all
This actually turned out pretty dope though. That transition back isn't that bad. LoL. But I totally know what you mean. Its like quicksand, the harder you get into it, the harder it is to pull out and you're just hoping there's a fucking way out 😂
Hahah thanks for checking it out! I think for one day of writing and recoding guitsr and bass and one day of adding synths and mixing in pretty stoked on it
do you want to make this music an actual live performing band by chance? Im lookin for other musicians that actually wanna get to work on this. Lemme know 💯💯
