Testing VP Cooldown in your Water/Air intercooler

- Today I am testing the theory of using a water cooling treatment to my water to air intercooler.
Let me know your thoughts on the results and please post your experiences as well
I have a 2013 GT500 and this is my biggest complaint. IAT2 temps are insane in the summer. Trying to find a solution for it is just as insane. Everyone says a new heat exchanger with fans was the fix and they have no issues. Then you ask them how much their IAT2's improved and they are like "Huh?".
Exactly..... so really, for a street car, it just is what it is.
You can make tiny progress with thousands of dollars, but it’s really moot and just need to accept it.
No more PDB blower cars for me! I’m don’t with this headache.
I can’t stand talking to people that preach stuff like you said above, but they have no clue what they are talking about and regurgitate internet theory with no testing or mechanics background.
So maybe something to think about.. im not 100% sure about what you used..but with the supercoolant it shows the the use of the product with coolant has less effect than just the product with water. Product with just distilled water had the highest temp drop.
It actually said on the bottle to use like double the amount with just water. Problem I think here is that this is made for MUCH higher temperatures than my intercooler. I dont feel too bad though, because my friends GT500 went 167 the other night during a pull with a 3R on it. So bigger blower = less heat? I think not.
The thing is water itself is a better coolant. That's why the temp drop with just water and the vp helps the corrosion

This stuff actually works on my holden vp v6 burnout car which gets hot quickly added this stuff gauge stays on cold
Yes for engine coolant. Not for intercooler coolant though.
I did not realize this was more suited for engine coolant.

Indeed! I actually saw a drop of 19-24 degrees out of the claimed 30+ on my F82 with the S55 engine! It does what it is intended to do!
Ughh I used it on my stocked vw cc did a whole flush cleaned Added new coolant Did a 1 week test without adding anything stayed normal Added the vr racing cool down honestly it truly work but didn’t give me the 20 degrees lower gave me about 16-17 Stayed between those the whole week and after that also forgot to mention I did do a engine clean 🧼 As well car does have 140k miles no issues It can definitely be a hit or miss all depends on how you do it
Did you watch the video? While I appreciate the feedback, this video was not showing its typical intended use. I filled a water to air intercooler with it.
It’s not going to work well the way you did it, you have a boosted car. You need a heat exchanger and a chiller. Not to mention a lower thermostat. This product works good on naturally aspirated engines. Not boosted.

Try the Evans Coolant, it works awesome on my 2007 Honda Civic Si.
Is your Civic SI making 800hp and running high boost? This was for the blower, not engine coolant.
Where is your bank one and bank two sensors? Because this specific product is claiming head temperatures. So what is your head temperatures?
Because this product was design for engine cooling, not blower cooling.

Iat1 was in the maf and iat2 was in the lower if memory serves me. This was a few years ago, so my memory could be hazy
You need to dump the ford coolant and run straight water and the additive.
In the end it doesn’t matter. You aren’t keeping these blowers cool. It’s just not possible

Have you ever thought about getting a killer chiller for the trunk
Yes, but anyone I have talked to said they were a waste of money and didn’t help other than sitting at idle.
This car was purely for racing, not idling at car shows showing how cool it could get.
This car is lonnnng gone though. No more PDB cars for me after this experience.
Install a forced induction inner chiller stage 2 kit. Don’t buy that killer chiller garbage use forced induction. I live in Houston and mid summer my IAT2 average 30-40 degrees 50-60 degrees after several pulls. Coolant temps stays around 30 degree will drop below zero in winter and spring
Those chillers work decent for idling, but under load, I have yet to read anyone that has indicated these are the answer.
I just did 😊 I bought a 21 stage 3 Roush car I know all about heat soak. This solved it. Again don’t use killer chiller use Forced inductions chiller they developed it Killer chiller tried to copy it.
Thankfully this video is probably 5 yrs old and I no longer have this nightmare of a car.

Those IAT’s seem almost too good to be true. Esp after several pulls. This sounds great though if this is the case
I miss read I thought you posted this 3 days ago lol. I was very skeptical myself with this chiller but made me a believer. I can do back to back pulls on 90 plus degree day and my highest IAT2 was 88 degrees.

Yea if that is the case, this sounds like an awesome setup! That’s the key is to be able to make back to back runs with ease at full power.
Didn't work on my stock car. I put in with antifreeze... im trying 2 bottles with stright water

Well a buddy i race with had the same problem im having. Running 240 degrees.... he got a 4 blade fan and put 2 bottles mixed with stright water.... then he ran 210.... I barrowed his fan and did the same thing.... I will find out if it works Friday night.... I have tried everything to drop my temp... 500 bucks later and still nothing

This works pretty well for engines I hear. I meant for intercoolers pissing in the wind.
My water temps were always great. I had a 170* tstat and just larger fans on the stock radiator

You use your AC? Center vents closes and drivers vent occupied by the Ngauge
strange that is the part of the video you focused on. This video was probably done in the winter.
Yes I closed the gauges because of ocd. When I use the heat or ac, I simple just flipped the vents open

You keep referencing IAT...intake air temps....
Why wouldn’t you be monitoring coolant temps.....
Because coolant temps are in the motor. Iat temps are what you monitor for this since this is the fluid going through the supercharger itself.
@@PMPerformance you're kinda right... but not really. The engine is a heat sink. Even a 20 degree change in coolant temp won't have an effect on that. Wrap your exhaust manifold, or hedders if that's what you have. That engine bay is packed. You're not getting much air flow there either. Water wetter is NOT gonna help your problem dude. I commend you for trying but this video is basically useless

@@PMPerformance after reading more comments I understand better what you were trying to do. Tbh I didn't realize that was an intercooler. I just thought it was a fab'd radiator. Your logic makes more sense to me now. You were trying trying lower intercooler Temps. Not the engine coolant. Same thing above applies, but I can understand what you were thinking. I don't know why but it didn't connect when I watched the video hahaha.. carry on
@@GLF426 no problem man. Yea there is an intercooler brick under the blower and then a heat exchanger that is basically a radiator at the front of the car to aid in intercooler coolant as well.
The logic was there, but not sure the results were quite there. I like to test theories when I can. I consider this an aborted project at this point, but would have loved to see what the costed headers would have done to be honest. I have had great success in the boat with ceramic coated headers and exhaust housings
I've had my IAT down to 50° three bags of ice in the ice box. It was like adding nitrous.

@@ArmyPL1981 that’s fine and dandy for a track car. The ice does not last that long on hot days, but moot for a street car.
I had an ice tank, but again doesn’t do anything on the street.
You should run a methanol kit with a killer chiller kit they drop the IAT to around 50⁰ or 60⁰ degrees
Methanol does not work effectively pre rotor on a PDB blower. I had meth on my Centrifugal SN95 that had no intercooler. The IAT difference was unreal. Unfortunately not the same on a PDB setup.
Killer chillers are a mixed bag. Any actual data I showed on the KC, their IAT's were higher than mine are. Sure they can get back in in quicker, but that does not make me want to spend my money.
The engine is down right now, so if I fix it, I will be putting a better IC core on it while its all apart. My hopes are some better recovery time at least
i will follow up on that front if I decide to go through with fixing the car
@@PMPerformance meth doesn't but water does. It's all about volume with PDB.
@@B7_S4_Turbo I haven’t gotten any positive feedback or testing from anyone with a PDB. I saw 1 guy that ran ALOT of nozzles. I forget his end result but much too much work for me.

@@PMPerformance I've been dealing WM setups for over a decade now. Volume is king as you have to overcome the giant heat sink that is the nature of a blower.
typically with 2000cc+/min we were getting roughly 30* over ambient even in Florida heat.
@@B7_S4_Turbo again, to me running many nozzles to get the volume to make a difference was not worth it to me at the time. Nor would sucking that much fluid down be beneficial I think for a street car. I’d need a 5 gallon cell just for water/meth. Lol
Are you running a heat exchanger?
All blown cars come with heat exchangers to my knowledge.
@@PMPerformance I'm building a centrifugal setup for the track but never owned one with a factory setup. Those chiller systems that hook to the AC seem like the ticket for a driver.
@@heavydhit56 there really aren’t many factory centrifugal cars. Turbo and twin screw cars pretty much always have a heat exchanger that I have ever seen in the last 20 years or so.
The chiller kits are pretty decent, but not all they are cracked up to be.

Did you not realize this is for the blower and not the cooling system? The heater has no relevance on this.

@@PMPerformance always. I used zerexgo5 which is a HOAT Coolant. Read on a forum that’s usually the calcium to protect from corrosion. Going to try it again
