I think the colour of the coolant doesn't really matter. It is just a dye that companies use to identify with their brands. A coolant is a mixture of 80% water and 20% additives (Anti-corrosion and/or anti-freeze additives). The anti-freeze (glycol) additive is not necessary in the hot climates such as Kenya. The quality of the anti-corrosion additive is what matters in an engine coolant as it needs to have a high boiling point and specific heat capacity.
Some coolants come as concentrates which need to be mixed with water at a specified ratio (on the packaging) and most of coolants in the Kenyan market come as premixed from the blending plants so no need for mixing with water.

Mr. Wokabi.I think you got your facts a bit mixed up on this one. Coolant is simply a water and antifreeze + + mix. Firstly, impurities, generally, raise the boiling point of water not lower it. Secondly, inorganic coolant is better suited for the older engines made from cast iron because they have chemicals that better inhibit corrosion as compared to organic coolants. Organic coolants are better suited for newer engine applications because the alloys used,(generally alluminium alloys) are less susceptible to corrosion by water and organic compounds. They are also a lot more friendly to the environment at time of disposal or accidental spills. Finally, the colours are a guide with pink or blue indicating organic acids and phosphates and greed indicating inorganic additives (mainly silicates)
This explains the pink coolant you generally find in newer cars.
So yeah, if your car has an aluminium block, stick to the pink coolant (organic) and green for the cast iron lot. (Inorganic).

Yes it is hybrid coolant and its the stuff they use from factory from the smallest petrol Vitz & Passo to the bigger diesel V8s and Prados. And Toyota themselves claim its good for 5yrs or 100,000kms.

Good info as usual. Coolant was invented mostly for use in those regions in the world that experience winter to prevent the cooling system that used water from freezing into ice and cracking the engine block. It has a very low freezing point. It is better than water due to its anti corrosion ingredients but it can still cause it if left for too long and in the wrong mix. It will accelerate galvanic corrosion which is the corrosion of different types of engine metals that are in contact like steel, iron and aluminium. Another way that it can get corrosive is if the engine and by extension the radiator is not grounded well. It can become an electrolyte and promote metal corrosion by electrolysis. By ingredients the coolant we use is almost 90% percent water and 10% "coolant'( anti freeze) while in winter countries the mix is 50/50 .

The guy is correct. Infact very correct. Most guys are talking of distilled water which is very wrong. Older engines where distilled water was used had a thin layer of zinc oxide on the inner part of the engine that's why distilled water with nil hardness is calcium and magnesium sulfate was allowed. Right now your modern coolant is a designed multifunctional liquid of. Ethelyne glycol which acts as an antifreeze and nitrite based corrosion inhibitor which acts as an oxygen Scavenger once, the oxygen in the closed cooling system is consumed to turn the nitrite to nirates, reason you sometimes might see which suspension in your coolant in the radiator. So using distilled H²O is a no for my engine. Use the above only

    • @joshuanyarango

Impurities in the solution increase the boiling point. This is because impurities decrease the water molecules available for vaporisation during boiling. A greater amount of heat is needed to make the same amount of impure solution to vapourize than the heat that is required to make a pure solution vaporize. Therefore, leading to the rise of the overall boiling point of the solution.

What People don't know: These coolants take longer to reach 100C the temperature at which most cars are programmed to turn on the fan. The coolant will stay at about 95C for very long without hitting 100C leading to actually an overheating car . Your temp. gauge won't indicate it's overheating though because it's just slightly below 100C
Water heats up faster and turns on fans faster to dissipate the heat.
The car's cooling systems are also programmed with the thermal properties of water not some random cooling liquid no one knows what it's made of.

GMC recommends Orange antifreeze in their engines because it’s the only one that doesn’t contain cellulite! Where all the other brands do ! Cellulite eats away aluminium radiators which is a very thin material normally! You sir only spoke on two colours of coolant which just doesn’t tell everyone about other colours ! So I take it your just another one of these think they know. It all on the internet!

Coolant in anything thats made of steel is highly recommended because it reduces plain water from rusting components, but alloy engines you can get away with just using water as aluminium doesnt rust like steel does. But generally coolant is recommended in all engines thesedays regardless of their make or model or year of manufacture.

Using the wrong coolant is bad news on an engine, it can create a chemical imbalance, cause sludge, leaks, inefficient cooling, and clog up your cooling system, using the wrong coolant is bad. That's why it's best to use what the dealer recommends but some people say some aftermarket coolants are better than original coolant but if in doubt then just change it with original oem stuff on a normal basis.

I have been to Europe and while I was there I discovered that they have 4 different coolant colors namely green, orange, pink and blue. I recently saw a common brand used in Europe called shield at carrefour shelves and all those four coolant colors were available. I think it would have helped if you focused on all four.. my two cents though 🤔

Mostly green and red or pink has been widely used to distinguish the two differences in alkalinity but as I stated there are hybrid or synthetic versions that may come in different colours what is important is to carefully analyse the quality, standard and specifications of your car before you purchase one
