    A lot of myths running around about protein absorption in the comments. Guess I'll be tackling that very soon!

    • @acoolguy6524
      @acoolguy6524 7 лет назад +5

      PictureFit please tell us how fast different protein is absorbed: eg - fish protein is absorbed in #/h, egg white protein is absorbed #/h, etc. Also, please, tell the people that our bodies do absorb all of the protein we consume, and there is no boundry. A caveman didnt eat as often as we do today, so his body had to absorb all of the nutrients, until he finds food again.

    • @DANGJOS
      @DANGJOS 7 лет назад +2

      a cool guy I don't think we absorb all of the protein we eat. Different proteins have different digestibilities. Nuts, for example, have low protein digestibilities. Shelled hemp seeds are higher, and most meats are very high

    • @KR33P
      @KR33P 7 лет назад +2

      Looking forward to it, especially the part with "you can only absorb around 30g of protein in one meal".

      PictureFit yeah thought this aspect would be answered late in the vid, but guess we'll have to wait a bit for that one ;-). Personally I enjoy just eating two meals a day when cutting because I just enjoy the volume and feeling full rather than feeling a bit hungry but always. Mentally it's just for me. Cheers for another great vid picturefit! Bell crew in.

    I love the way you present fitness information. So easy to understand. Thanks for debunk the 6 meals craziness! I read a book by a fitness guru, talking about this Japanese boxer study and believed whole heartily that I should eat 6 small meals. Well... if we don't do enough research, we end up getting brainwashed by so call "expert". I guess we should all learn to evaluate different evidence and always question the source of each study. And always open mind about new possibility!

    I've found that leaning out has been much easier if I'm in sort of an "intermittent" fasted state rather than consistent eating and planning.

    In my experience frequent meals contributed to my strength gains. I was training 5x a week my two days off was for cardio. I was eating lots of good fats and protein and eating most of my carbs pre work out and post work out, my carbs comes from brown rice and vegies. That made me gain strength and the ability to last on work outs. Intermittent fasting aided me when I wanted to lose weight. It just boils down to an individual's preference

    There is 1 reason metabolism increases after 36 hours of fasting and I noticed this myself when I had appendicitis. That is ketosis. 12:00 AM July 29 was the last time I ate before I got significant pain and nausea about 1.5 hours later. The pain was around my appendix and woke me up. I didn't throw up but I sure felt like I would. Momma just thought it was ovulation pain and nausea because I have had that before. I may have ovulated early but that wasn't the only cause because after waking up about 12 hours later, the pain was worse and I was still nauseous. I texted my dad right before I woke momma up. Then Momma and I went to the emergency room because I was in persistent abdominal pain.
    It wasn't long before they got my first set of vitals and my weight. Lots of doctors asked me about how long the pain has lasted, where the pain was, how high it was on a scale of 2-10(the hospital I go to only uses even numbers for their pain scale), and if I had other symptoms. They also often listened to my heart, lungs, and bowels. It wasn't until about 10:00 PM that they did tests other than blood tests and a urinalysis. My urinalysis came up positive for ketones, specifically 40 mg/dl and since I am not diabetic and did not eat for hours, the only thing that could explain the high ketone levels is that I was in ketosis. My body was using my fat reserves. I did feel sleepy and dizzy for a few minutes, almost as though I was hypoglycemic and since I was in ketosis, I probably was hypoglycemic. Since they did an ultrasound 2 weeks earlier due to abdominal pain, they were skeptical and did an IV contrast CT. This showed early tip appendicitis and an ovarian cyst on my right ovary. They gave me IV antibiotics and once again were skeptical but this time it was about whether to just keep me on antibiotics until it either stopped or ruptured or to do an appendectomy. About 2 hours later so a whole 24 hours since I ate, they decided to do an appendectomy.
    Now I initially refused to take pain meds and I was like that for hours because I was NPO and I did not think the pain medication would work(OTC pain meds don't typically work for menstrual cramps, gas pains, or ovulation pain when I have them. And gas pills only work if the gas is in my intestines. The only OTC pain med that actually works for my menstrual cramps is Mydol). After hours, I finally decided to take some pain medication along with my phenobarbital. They gave me Tylenol because it works better for headaches(which I had at the same time as the appendicitis pains). That didn't do a thing for either pain.
    I got admitted to the hospital and was taken upstairs at about 1:30 AM(which is 24 hours since I had started having symptoms). I could not sleep. I wasn't tired, I was in pain, and I was nauseous. A nurse gave me an injection of morphine for the pain and the abdominal pain went away in minutes. I still had a headache though and nothing was helping. The most I could do is relax. At about 7:30 AM, my dad came to see me before I went to surgery. About an hour later I was taken down to surgery where they talked to me and my parents about the procedure. I asked them how long it would be until I could go swimming and do abdominal exercises. They said I could swim in a week and do abdominal exercises in a week or 2. I remember going to the operating room and seeing bright lights, closing my eyes and taking deep breaths as I heard them talking about the protocol for laparoscopic appendectomy. That is all I remember before falling unconscious due to the anesthesia. They put a catheter in me because I was having trouble urinating and my bladder was uncomfortably full. They also put a breathing tube in me which made my throat really sore.
    At 11:30 AM I woke up from the anesthesia. The surgeons were a bit worried about me waking up so long after the anesthesia for a short procedure but once I woke up they weren't worried. At about 2:00 PM, I had pancakes at the hospital. This was the first time I felt a full stomach in hours. It was a bit uncomfortable but at least I wasn't nauseous from appendicitis anymore. I went home at about 5:30 PM and right after I went home, I threw up but only once so I didn't have to go back to the hospital.
    Now, 2 weeks later, I am getting back into doing abdominal exercises to add muscle definition to my abs and loose weight and nothing is wrong. I did have lots of ovarian pain the night before my period and of course soreness in my abdomen and throat for a few days after my appendectomy but other than that, nothing.

    Great video. However, the more accurate conclusion from these research results may be more meals do not correlate with faster metabolism providing equal amount of total intake. We should keep in mind that, in a real setting, more meals may have mental effects(e.g., makes you think you had a lot of meals hence you consume less food in total naturally) or it makes blood sugar level stable so that less crave for (unhealthy) food.

    So if larger meals burn more calories, what about one meal per day? I've heard of individuals taking this route and seeing benefits.

    Ive been told that eating more frequent is an effective way to not spike bloodsugar. And in my own personal experienve, when i have too large of meals, i get sluggish.

    What about for protein intake? You can only absorb around 20g per 2 hours or something right?

    I've been working out for half a year now doing mostly calisthenics, running and light dumbbell workouts. I've considered going to Planet Fitness to start working with weights. Normally i workout 5 days a week. Any advice for a beginner going to the gym? I have managed to lose 27 pounds and weigh 150lb. I plan on bulking but need some tips.

    I have IBS and get stomach pains and bad gas if I go more than 4 hours or so without eating. Even after eating it takes almost an hour to get back to normal.

    I used to have 5 full meals during swim season with snacks in between because you truly burn just that many calories from 3 hours +morning practices

    Nice. Thumbsup for your effort for discrediting this myth:D
    I tried practising frequent meals on myselfxD 5 meals vs 3meals previously(trying to keep total calorie intake same) and i gained weight. My assumption is increased frequency of insulin release with frequent meals, and insuling is one of the hormones associated with increasing muscle mass but also fat.
    Havent found much evidence on it tho so far. I would appreciate if you know any researches regarding this.

    Hmmm...how about for bulking that the reason that people eat 6 meals a day is the body can only synthesize 30g of protein per meal. What's your take on this?

    I have a question: i eat about 400 kcal a day (I count them), do you think my metabolism will fail? I still work out almost everyday, and have gained muscles from that, I'm scared that I might lose them or my metabolism will worsen . I do eat healthy and consume protein through out the day and after my workout. I have noticed that it's harder for me to workout (get tired faster) but I'm still able to finish it. I know 400 kcal is not enough for me but it's really hard to eat more but I'm gonna try to eat 500 a day.

      Certainly can. When your results begin to diminish, then you might want to consider cycle one over the other depending on your goal preferences.

    Doesn't eating often maintains high blood glucose levels and reduces muscle breakdown while cutting? Our body prioritizes on using blood glucose first right?

    What about things that slow down metabolism or things that speed it up? Does working out and too dramatic of a calorie deficit kill your metabolism? What does the science say on getting it back up and burning faster?
