    It's good to know the struggles are real for others in this trade, not that I want to see anyone struggling, but it's good know I'm not the only one. Patients is key in this business.
    Great job! It's enjoyable watching your videos.

    I've had days like this where it takes all day to do something like this to old equipment. leaks everywhere and longer than normal repair times. That's just how old stuff is. good stuff as usual and congratulations.

    Great work. It is amazing how after many years welding, some times those spots in the back of the copper go with not enough rod, not covering the whole piping and leaving those tiny leaky spots and the vacuum pump speak is language later saying: there is a leak, but we desperately look for some other cause when it’s right there in front of us. Frustrating times. I am glad you were able to finish it. One of those looooong days. Thank you for taking the time and make videos. Super helpful.

    One humble suggestion:
    Loctite 554 or 567 for pipe threads on refrigeration

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  21 день назад +1

      We use the white one from them. I forget the number.

    • @19thcenturyfuture
      @19thcenturyfuture 21 день назад +2

      The white is 567 Teflon based
      The red is 554 works better and has a slight thread lock quality to it but $$$
      HVACRSurvival = best on the tube!

  • @zachtruax3222
    @zachtruax3222 22 дня назад +6

    Not a criticism just asking, does your company ever provide helpers or apprentices to help you with jobs like this? I see you can do by yourself but it seems safer and easier on the experienced tech to have a lifter there with him

    • @DontDrinkTheFlavorAid
      @DontDrinkTheFlavorAid 22 дня назад +4

      It's not always practical to drag an apprentice along for the ride. They slow you down and take money out of the job

    • @HVACRSurvival

      @zack I get someone if it’s something requiring two or if we’re training someone but it’s not often I work with anyone. In a recent compressor change video I did Clayton was there to help me because it was so heavy.

  • @HardKnocks101
    @HardKnocks101 21 день назад +1

    Hey Rick, congrats on new grandchild. Curious why you chose to convert to 134 and not 448?

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  21 день назад +1

      Did you compare the PT chart? R12 runs a much lower temp/pressure. I would have to replace 3 Txvs and set up the superheat to use 448a. R134a was the replacement for R12 systems. Unfortunately it’s getting discontinued just like every other refrigerant but it’s not my fault they waited 30 years to switch to it.

    • @HardKnocks101
      @HardKnocks101 21 день назад

      @ totally agree on all accounts. I would have strongly encouraged / recommend the 448 upgrade. Not knocking your repair. You did a great job and I feel your pain with all you went through. Been there, done that. I also “experimented” with blue (flux) solder rods. Threw them in the trash 4 years ago - totally not up to the hype! We got rid of 134 a year ago. Not on the trucks at all!

    congrats grandpa, what exactly is a muffler?

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  21 день назад +1

      It reduces harmonics from the compressor. It was common on reciprocating AC units. Generally don’t see it too often on scroll compressors.

  • @HVACR559
    @HVACR559 22 дня назад +2

    GUYS, GUYS . . . . . The threads are not the sealing surface of a flair connection, leak lock Teflon tape won't help. Don't use leak lock on the threads.

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  22 дня назад +1

      I do sometimes use it on the threads so that it doesn’t loosen up. BUT I don’t get it all crammed inside the sealing surface of the flare and I don’t use the blue stuff.

      It's just those systems that earn you a living, it just sucks for the customer you fix one problem for another to show up, its a never ending cycle unless it's all replaced. It's hard times for everyone. But all good repairs take time and planning. Something you're a master at. Always learning from ya congratulations Pappa Rick.

    🤦‍♂️ working on old stuff plus been worked on by half a dozen or more other guys guaranteed extra time and extra leaks. This is how they usually go
