People may not realize this, but if you do a google search you will find that Bela Lugosi was 6’1” and Karloff (Pratt) was only 5’11”. Lugosi was actually taller than Karloff but universal used the same camera and stage effects used in “The Green Mile”, to make Karloff look much taller.
G'day 👋 Thanks again for a wonderfully narrated (as always) story. Unless I've finally gone 'covid lockdown coo-coo' 😅 ..and it's right under my nose, I can't find the year this was written/first published.. in the description anyway. Is it there, and I am just missing it, or if not there, do you know when it was? Thanks!! 😊✌🐨🌌
It's time to relax with the clapping of thunder and lightening as its downpours wash away all other sights and sounds. The perfect time to listen to Horror Babble.
Why did Weird Tales ever stop publishing. The greatest horror writers of the century contributed to it and even those who didn't become household names wrote intense and memorable stories. The public appetite for horror seems to stay constant so to quote Public Enemy what sucker stole the soul ?
They died with film and tv. It was a slow death, but by the 80'samd 90's the big ones were almost gone. Stephen king mentioned them in his early autobiographies, as being published in playboy and maybe even amazing stories, and I vaguely have memories of Nova for scifi advertised in the early 90's. The short story format itself is dead in the publishing world, only really living on in creepypasta. Now, to be honest, if someone were a bit enterprising, right now would be a great time to start a self publishing magazine and take submissions... It's not easy though. Back in 2000 I tried doing some random email thing with short stories via email and I got only 3 subscribers (mostly family) and only one friend to submit a story, but it was fun... But maybe it's nearly time to take another stab at it.
@@SerifSansSerifI think it could make a comeback, nostalgia is always in Vogue, you just need to find the Right audience. Not sure why Google is giving random capitalization.
Cheers for this Ian - I get many hours of enjoyment from your work. It's the best renditions of short stories I've found on RUclips; everything else falls short of the mark. Cheers! "LiL'JpD."
I so much prefer the older stories. The gradual change in what issues and subjects affected the common gestalt of what society feared as a whole. Not to mention the mastery of vocabulary that conveys the creeping sense of maleficia.
I like seeing the gradual ways people behave then and now and the way words gradually change...well, probably not anymore. You can't call a man a man anymore without wondering if someone is going to cry.
Have you read any Ligotti? I recommend him so much people get sick of it haha, but he's still writing and I think he may be the most interesting horror writer out there. Very dense, very thoughtful and literary, but always quite horrific
Dracula's Guest is a wonderful piece. It's a shame Bram didn't include it in the final novel. Perhaps he thought it would detract from the later mystery at the castle when we meet the three vampiresses.
Probably my favorite Horror Babble collection. Play this in one browser tab, and a nice long rain w/thunder soundscape (ruclips.net/video/WlTPq1Up14E/видео.html highly recommended; adjust volume accordingly) in another tab, simultaneously, for a great "bedtime story". Sleep well!
i love “Dracula’s Guest”. i don’t know why. could be the way the wolf kept him warm and safe that he was saved. your reading enhanced it, of course :) 🐺🧛🏼♂️
3:27:00 just wow. Pitiful. Weak, weak, weak. Roger, Roger, I understand his frustration. She chose to live a lie. I would start to hate hearing my name. Murdered her Husband, because she realized the truth.
@@joedent3323 Well that's good cause Ol' drippy drips on my toys. That's why Dewy got a big long stain all down his backside. Also Master Shake ate his head and you need that for breathing and stuff.
