    Marky's autobiography is a great read. Better than most rock and roll memoirs.
    Johnny comes off as pretty mean and nasty- especially towards Joey.
    Not to mention stealing Joey's girlfriend which broke his heart.

      +James Morris it's easy to feel sorry for Joey. The guy had oodles of mental/emotional issues not to mention physical problems when he was younger. But he was basically a good guy. Johnny, on the other hand, ruled the band with an iron fist. And being the leader, it fell to him to take care of a lot of the band logistics, something Joey and Dee weren't capable of. Johnny was a hard ass to the end, refusing to even call Joey when Joey was dying of cancer.

    Ah, well, booze is no good, Joey had a huge problem with it for years. The age was only 18 when I was in NY but I was 20 when my "had a drink with Joey" event occured, it was legal for me then. I think I caught him walking North from an apt he shared with Dee Dee at that time. It was right by CBGB but he definitely did not come out of there. I spotted him a little South of there. I thought, NY can be so cool! (Generally it was not a nice place to live in those days, yecch!) xo

    Marky Ramone was a brilliant drummer, one of the best in my opinion the ramones had 3 amazing drummers but Marky was probably the best.

  • @johnhouseholder4692
    @johnhouseholder4692 11 лет назад +15

    I always thought Marky pounded those skins like a cave man. It is overused but Dee Dee...fine line between genius and madness. THE creative force behind the Ramones. I don't think he nearly gets the credit due and often dismissed because he was high a lot. Many many band, not mentioning any names Green Day, copied or learned to play to his base riffs.

    • @yhn1inc
      @yhn1inc 11 лет назад +1

      Dee Dee was a true punk rock writer. Joey was the guy who had a better sense of melody, I think.

    • @johnhouseholder4692
      @johnhouseholder4692 11 лет назад +5

      yhn1inc Dee Dee...art imitating life. His book describes a pretty bad childhood. Joey didn't seem to have it much better. His mom describes an incident where he came home from middle school with a shoe print on his chest. Taking a sour lemon and making it a living art.

      Seriously though, I do appreciate how Marky doesn't talk shit or disparage his former bandmates. And if, in the interest of telling the truth, he must say something that could be perceived as unfavorable, he will follow it up by giving them some kind of credit and tie it into their personality flaws. Class act, Marky.

    I get the feeling that the virtual band Gorillaz was heavily based on the Ramones and the Sex Pistols. But more so the Ramones than the Sex Pistols. Except for the blue hair thing, 2D is almost exactly like Joey because 2D is really tall, really skinny, had weird eyes which caused an impairment in this vision, he also had similar mental and physical impairments and 2D never forgave Murdoc for shagging his girl friend in the toilet, Steve Jones style, and then kicking her out of the band. Merdoc is a cross between Johnny, Dee Dee and Steve Jones because Murdoc is a real douche bag to everybody especially 2D, who he tortures on a regular basis. Also Merdoc would steal anything from anybody and he met 2D when he attempted to steal a truck load of keyboards for his new band. Although Noodle is female and she was 10 years old when she joined Gorillaz, she is an amazing songwriter and she wrote a lot of their songs. Where Russel is like Tommy besides the fact that both Tommy and Russel are amazing drummers is that the Ramones originated In New York and Tommy was from Hungry while Gorillaz originated in London and Russel was from NYC.

      I met those guys after a show in 91. I always thought Joey was really tall, because he looked like it in the photos. He was my height exactly(6'3"). He just looked hyper-tall in the photos because the other guys were all shorter than him, plus Joey was extremely long-legged. I stood there and talked to him for several minutes, and even though we were the same height, his legs came up about level with my bellybutton.
