1985 Ford f150 300 straight 6. New Carburetor and HEI Distributor Install.

- 1985 F150 with the 4.9 inline 6 engine. The truck wouldn’t run. Replaced the Feedback Carburetor with a cheap Amazon 1barrel carburetor and Replaced the coil and distributor with an HEI distributor. Runs and drives now.
I did the same upgrade to my wood chipper that has a 300-6. Fixed all my ignition issues.
please make more videos with this truck. This was the most helpful video ive seen regarding Feedback carb removal. Please continue making videos.

Thanks for this. Mine is 83, quit on my Monday. Thought is was coil. Not! No spark. ORdered new dist, and coil and duraspark.

Awesome video. I did the same thing a while back due to the computer shutting the truck off randomly every few minutes driving down the road. Mechanic never figured out what was wrong with it. HEI distributor worked like a charm. I just keep a backup one in the truck as some people say the electronics of these A team distributors go bad. New carb was installed a few days ago. Haven't gotten it adjusted just right yet, but it drives down the road so it's good enough for now. Would love to see more videos on this truck. Will be keeping an eye out!

I have the EFI version, 89, shit wont idle either, timing is all over the place, computers ruined the inline six.
Remove all that and install a HEI and older carb
@@darrinrentruc6614 God help me my mechanic after 3 months got it done, its running, no more stalling, not sure what he did, other than fixing the injector o-ring that drown the engine bay, love driving a bomb. I hope to just take it to the cruise in and put a for sale sign on the damn thing, I'm over it, bought a Honda Odyssey, piss on this.

also you didn’t hook up your vac advance
it took me a while to get the vacuum advance set. I had to drive it around and keep making adjustments with an Allan wrench until I got the pinging under control.
@@CarolinaMedia All of the forums mentioned that they had pinging after removing the computer controlled setup.

Yes. Make sure to set the timing first without the vacuum hooked up. I ended up driving uphill in a high gear til I heard knocking (pinging). Make small adjustments to vacuum advance until pinging stops. Good luck!

What connector wires did you use for the HEI?
@@Em6726I used a single wire from the old coil to the “BAT” on the new distributor. The wire was brown and white on this truck. See 23:30 in the video.
😂 i have a 1981 custom f150 rv camper straight six 300 4 sp with granny gear with only 66 thousands miles original hard to find if is another jjj around carburetor everything works from stove to freigh start right alway in cold start.Secreat marvel oil and restore engine kp motor snd carb nice and running smooth here and there drop a bit on gas tank with marvel oil we call it snake oil strong like a bull amigo on 1 gear better than a 4x4 like a willy jp as well reverse jjjj man man she real strong and run smooth i kp her in gd shape people always ask me if i sale her jjjj 😁 they most be crazy America pride jjjj ccr born in the byouooooo voodoo child jjjj

@@CarolinaMedia nothing like the straight six 300 and 4 sp with granny transmission my transmission even have a hook for PTO jjj.Real strong rv camper and real simple and real cheap to maintenance .Is a custom and who ever send to make it knew the combo real well by hooking up motor and tranny and probably the gear inside the differential 2 3 and 4 gear she runs better than a new truck but 4 gear is like a over drive really in long hills drop to 3 gear and she pull nice gd on gas and real smooth . Like I said I kp her in gd shape hard hard to find plus I myself never see around another one and people seems they love her special when they find out is a carb 300 and standard transmission original .Anyway you know this engine and transmission with granny gear is the best for everything year around . Kp yours they don't make them anymore ok

@@CarolinaMedia kp her alive suspension is cheap and motor part cheaper jjj 😁 remember compared to new truck prices and computers crap our is superior then all them no payments cheap insurance no EMC crap etc.Our is simple mechanical stuff a carb jjj 😁 can be tune with a rusty screw 🪛 jj .when the carb starts acting up with 60 to 80 dollar buy one from eBay and rock and roll jjj down hill up hill .Is that simple straight 6 300 is the poor man tractor and with the 4 granny she becomes the mule jjjjj 😁 real simple I never will sale my custom rv camper hell know jjj CCR born in the byouooooo jjj moonshine and smoke with smile 😁 kp her fix up call it investment every penny is weight in gold nothing like the 300 like I said the poor man tractor as well the mule jjj
@@CarolinaMedia plus another thing I have build old school style with 15 x10 dp dish wheels on 31 x10.5 tires custom flares 16 valves 4x4 272 Delta cam header no back seat no air condition I even took out the steering pump cut the top and put to strap like old renegade style jjjjj 😁 bluetube speakers weight around 1700 is a 1996 Geo tracker look tuff and sound like a ford V8 kp him in gd shape to from engine to suspension no lift neither and he is my daily drives go any place with him gd on gas and cheap to maintenance I call him the Spanial mustang 🐎 jjj 😁.
