      Love watching his channel and pastor wheeler and his dad the old man,, and I have definitely had some I should have given up on like the early 94 Chevy extended cab short bed Z71 Silverado tbi nightmare I've mentioned before but I didn't quit because people kept saying it would never run, and I was determined to fix it well I traded a $3,250 86 chevy k20 custom deluxe long bed and well used farm truck only needed the bad starter swapped and a good carburetor put on it I offered the guy it's quadrajet carburetor and the GP Sorenson rebuild kit he's like nope quadrajet carburetors are junk, anyway he was asking closer to $2,000 for the early 94, and it now runs fairly well except it's going to need fresh rod and main bearings from the major flooding issues it had and that they just drove it like that til it wouldn't take fuel input without crackling backfire flames out of the exhaust tips and through the glass pack mufflers and stainless cannon 3 1/2 inch slant cut stainless steel heartthrob brand exhaust tips on 2.25 inch pipe and the tips are 18 inch long sounds like a double barrel 12-16 gauge side by side shotgun being fired simultaneously needless to say the neighbors hated that truck... and the timing chain is getting slack in it so that needs replaced and I probably have close to another $2,700 in parts making the tbi truck run correctly so yeah just carb and hei distributor swap it,,I could have gone that way but even if I didn't keep the Z71 I know it has rust around the edges except for the bed the inner bedsides are shot.. it's still a truck alot of people look for to buy,, and I have a clear title to it,it is still one of the most straight bodies of the gmt400 extended cab short bed trucks I've seen.. I knew someone would still want it... my late brother's best friend,, turns out it had a weak fuel pump and the factory sending unit was half clogged up with sediment and rust, and the main two issues actually there are 3. The reason it was backfiring through the tbi occasionally if you tried to hurry it up moving was the right side injector was a 5279 a 305 fuel injector and the Dr side was a 5206 a 350 fuel injector so one side the passenger side was starving for fuel, and the oil sending unit sensor was the wrong one for the vehicle as the motor was from a older truck,it didn't have the fuel pump cut off circuit so when the truck would loose oil pressure it would just quit causing it to backfire out the exhaust tips, and the tbi distributor was rusted and corroded inside so I swapped it out and put a tsp southwest performance brand new billet aluminum distributor in it and swapped out the no name ignition control module for a ac Delco gm ds194 and the truck while on the battery charger fired right up, but usually the starter would about kill the battery starting the truck and that got replaced with a ac Delco professional service replacement gm mini high torque starter like these motors are supposed to have and it zings right over and fires the tps sensor had a dead spot just after idle, halfway through part throttle and just after full throttle so that got repaired and followed by new Napa black 7mm high temp resistant silicone jacket ignition wire set and ac Delco rt45ts spark plugs since I'm sure this motor has been washing the cylinders for about two years before I got the truck and no one fixed it my first clue was with the bad fuel pump starting it off the mt dew bottle with a quarter of the gas in the bottle into the sides of the tbi and it tried to run fine as long as you didn't give it any throttle response input.. and the oil smelled strongly like gas, unfortunately this truck has a 0.40 over 1 ton 4bolt main 638 block in it with decent speedpro pistons and rings but I am guessing it's going to eventually need to come out and be gone through again but after all that it's rebuilt transmission started slipping and I'm like nope I'm done someone else can feed this thing parts, and then my late younger brother's best friend decided he would like to own the truck and I ran into a deal on a th700r4 transmission i couldn't pass up and ended up buying a transmission for it anyway...ugh

    Pastor, check the firing order. I had a 78 Thunderbird that i built a 351W for. However, i forgot that I used a 302 grind cam in it. I fired it up, and it ran and drove, but ran poorly, with low power. I switched to the 302 firing order, and voila'!! Ran smooth as glass! Just a thought, as some of the newer 302s used the 351 firing order. By the way, i've been tuning into your morning services the past couple of weeks. Great messages! Revival is needed! Amen!

    Rev Sounds to me you may have the firing order wrong, Ford small blocks have 2 different firing orders. I have had a couple people bring their hot rod fords to me complaining that it just didn’t have the power they expected and every time they were using the older firing order and switching the plug wires smoothed them right out. Also all the shift points are controlled by the TV cable attached to the carburetor, edelbrocks require a geometry correction bracket for that cable. Congrats on getting it running!

    It sounds as if the engine is not running on all cylinders. I suggest you first perform a cylinder output test to determine which cylinder (s) is not firing. Then you can proceed and do a compression test, check the firing order, check the spark plug cables for continuity, check your spark plugs, check the distributor cap for cracks. I'm only close to 80 years old and may have forgotten one or two more things that you may need to do. But the ones I mentioned shall lead to to finding the problem. Oh yes, if you have access to an oscilloscope, you will find the problem easier and quicker. I was blessed with the opportunity to train many kids that came back from Vietnam in the Auto-Diesel Tech field.
    May the HS, our Helper, lead you to successfuly find the problem.

    Something that a lot of people don't look at is the harmonic balancer if one things go bad it will make your car run like crap and you end up spending all kinds of money trying to figure out what it is and it keeps on doing this same garbage so have a look at your harmonic balancer make sure that it is in good condition there's a lot of videos out here that will show you about it that's what was wrong with my truck I replaced all my fuel injectors the timing the spark plugs all kinds of sensors and it come to find out that the harmonic balancer was bad that was my whole problem

    First time commentor, also new subcriber. Absolute great video on turning a EFI built mill into a carbed swap. The only thing I think you're miss is what you need to control the transmission. If it's EFI you just pulled out everything you need for that transmission to "know" what it's doing. You'll need a stand alone unit, or swap it to a stick. Which also isn't hard. Been messing with my own daily driver. If I can offer up advice, let me know.

    Best guess is it wouldnt crank when it was put back together due to a security issue. The computer wouldnt allow the engine to start because a sensor was either not hooked up or had a bad connection. Congrats on getting it going though

    2 things
    1 the fuel pump in the tank is way to strong psi for the needle seat in the carb, watch for flooding
    2 the trans is an aod with tv cable, it is not computer controlled, aode. There is a special bracket for edelbroke carbs (Holley has diff bracket) to get the ratio of throttle position and trans cable pull correct. You can’t use the one you got, wrong ratio. Improper pull will toast the trans in a ny minute. Improper pressure.

      Being that Rev’s truck is a 1987 F-150, There is a very good possibility that the transmission in the 1987 is an early E4OD with the drain plug in the torque converter just like the transmission that is in my 1990 F-150 in which I have been considering a C6 swap being that my transmission slips.
      The guy at the local transmission shop indicated that being that the E4OD transmission was computerized that a ReMan or any other E4OD would have to be be flashed with the engine computer to make it work - That’s why I am thinking of swapping to a C-6 transmission.
      My truck has the 4.9 liter engine and with all of the exact same “Crap” that David’s engine once had on it
      The electronic stuff works until it doesn’t which becomes a huge problem when the “Crap” no longer works.

Ended up getting a used ecu from a parts truck and it runs like a dream. Aftermarket is junk these days. I’ve replaced so many items with old parts and the truck keeps running better.

    The Edelbrock is a great street able carb but is prone to flooding and tuning issues without a pressure regulator set at 5-5.5 psi, with that you’re golden…otherwise you have issues like the dead spot transitioning off the idle circuit…

    Its your TPS, it needs to be hooked up to the throttle linkage on the passenger side of carb so it will send the correct RPMs for your transmission to shift.

    It seems like it is not getting the feed to the electrical solenoid switches are not getting the power to trigger them and shift this transmission, but I do know that they make a standalone computer for putting those transmissions in the older vehicles without the efi and the ones setup with a carburetor so you might look into that, can't remember what all connections and sensors the e40d transmission has that it has to have the computer to shift this transmission through the gears..

  • @tectalabyss
    @tectalabyss 9 месяцев назад +1

    Hi Sir. I was amazed the carb didn't flood,due to the high pressure fuel pump. The computer is looking for the mess of sensors to tell the transmission when to shift. Maybe and old school Aod or C6 transmission would fix the shifting problem ? your doing great by the way. May God bless in these crazy times.

    • @RevStoration
      @RevStoration  9 месяцев назад

      I had already installed a 4-7lb pump.. therefore no flooding. The engine was down two fouled plugs.. easy!
