    It doesn't matter where the distributor falls. As long as the distributor goes all the way down you can run number one from there. That's one of the advantages of using a POS CHEVY distributor. Oh and thank you so much!!! Glad I could help. Especially when no one else out there is telling you people these FACTS. Like genius here 😂

    I just got an HEI distributor for my 351c. I was having a hell of a time diagnosing what was wrong with the old duraspark and decided that I wanted something simpler. Now that I got the duraspark working again, I'm kinda afraid to change it out. I know the HEI is going to help me next time I need to diagnose an ignition problem, but I hate to mess stuff up by changing things that aren't broken.

    Igniter vs Points distributor vs HEI
    I have a 1990 Lincoln Town with the Windsor V8. Looking for tune-up advice, how to get the best fuel efficiency. upgrading does sound like less maintenance but questioning ROI Return On Investment? btw the car has sat for 8 years and running well on warm days. but if I don't let it warm up 20* F or colder and try to drive off after 10 min it seems rough until it gets to operating temp. also after 45 to 1hr idle to op temp. it will kill the motor most of the time when I change gears R or D. I haven't noticed during warmer days dying during gear change but I have only had it for three weeks.

    • @2strokeguru
      @2strokeguru  3 года назад +1

      The ford 1990 has factory TFI the ignition module is screwed to the side of the distributor points where last used in 1975 in 1976 all fords where dura spark the GM upgrade is a nice all in one unit that is time tested and is a big part in GMs reliability HEI hi energy ignition has afew great features 65k voltage coil where ford is around 45k so GM has better spark which allows for a wider plug gap larger rotor to prevent ark from jumping to ground and other plugs also remove the rotor and you can really zero in on advance curve so its easier to tune and plenty of upgradable parts advance kit proforance module hi out coils and what does this mean it means that you can really get more power and better gas mileage out of this upgrade and it's noticeable

    I am about to start this project - my original holley carb has a tps on the side which is wired into the harness. As the module is not being used does this mean that the tps is not necessary? Also the dist I have does not have a vacuum advance - I think this is handled by the crank position sensor down below. Should I just run a vacuum hose to the base of the carb to provide vacuum for this? Thank you - a very helpful video!

    • @2strokeguru

      @@2strokeguru OK great....I note that on both your dist cap and mine the no 1 post is where the 7 is on the diagram in the manual....put mine to tdc and the rotor is pointing pretty much where yours is but according to the book its about 3 posts over? Hello Kevin---my HEI distr arrived at last...everything is the same put there is an additional length of about 3/4 inch of darker metal/steel on the very end of the shaft...is that a piece which should have stayed in the oil pump? Wish I could post a picture to you.

      Follow up: Installed as you have shown and it works perfectly - no idea why the old dist had a longer tip but the new one fit fine - fixed all my problems and cleaned up the engine bay a great deal. The old system did not permit you to change timing the new system does and the motor runs far better having checked and adjusted the timing. Thank you for a very helpful video.

      Yes but not a huge one the carb i brought holly 600CFM same as i took off its call holly Street warrior so it more of a stock replacement will better jets and fuel mapping the engine is factory 351ho so what i did to get more power i deleted the egr valve and went with a GM HEI IGNITION system that delivers 65k of fire power to the plug and better advance curve so i have a power gain without losing fuel economy i also charged the secondary spring to a lighter one so when i do put my foot in it it comes to life sooner
