SmallRig 'Black Mamba' RIG build (Canon R5C)

SmallRig kindly reached out to me and asked me if I wanted a Black Mamba rig for my R5C. I accepted the offer and purchased the extra items such as the baseplate, rods, battery mount and side handle. From my use so far, I find this rig to be great and it does a fantastic job of turning your camera into a more robust filmmaking tool.
What I like most about the SmallRig gear is the variety of stuff they have that's widely available. The build quality. Affordability, though it adds up when you keep buying little bits. I also like the ease of assembly.

R5 will never have R5C video features not physically possible.. R5C is a great camera. I strayed to Panasonic and my S1H but defo want the R5C! BTW unlike many Tubers your work is excellent!!

hey, thanks a lot, thats great to hear; I think the successor of the S1H may be a better cam than the R5C, who knows. The battery of the R5C really is a problem.

Take it you don't use manual focus ever then, that handle would definitely get in the way! Cheers for the info

About 50% of my shots are manual focus. In my new R5C video, you'll see.

Do you think the right side of the cage hugging the camera handle is still comfortable to shoot stills? Or does it feel bulky and uncomfortable when you need to press the shutter button?

(just a little suggestion: you should place your captions higher in the frame. When one is scrolling through your video (on a computer), the captions are underneath the red progress bar, somewhat unreadable. Placing the captions a little bit higher in the frame would solve this problem)

I'm thinking of getting that Black Mamba top handle for my rig. How comfortable would you say it is to hold compared to a traditional metal top handle?

It's very comfortable but not that big. A larger handle with more fixings is something I may get. Check out some of the other SmallRig handles.

fairly easy. you have room to place your finger into the button to release the lens

Don't buy that rotating side handle. Mine broke on the rotating part. Really dissapointing.

Ummm, I have a hard time believing you. I see your hat. I'm from NYC. I do believe you may be an impostor. There are parts of waaaaay upstate I've not had the pleasure that may share your accent but... I dunno.
I also have the Black Mamba. Smart design. Small with nice edges.
