  • The young males of the Kumana Lion Pride killed a buffalo the day before, and they and their Mluwati father feasted on it all night.
With their stomachs full, they discovered another herd of buffalo and were enticed to hunt once more by instinct.
Filmed at Kumana Dam in Kruger National Park, South Africa.

    Game drive etiquette Rules:
    - When you come across a sighting, slowly pull over on the side of the road closest to the animal, but keep a safe distance
    - If there are animals in the road, immediately stop at least 20 m from them
    - The lane furthest from the sighting should never be blocked, so that others can pass if they want to
    - Don’t linger longer than a few minutes at a sighting, so that others can view it too
    - Never go off the designated roads
    - Never climb out of your vehicle during a drive, or hang out of your car windows or sunroof
    - Don’t hoot or blare loud music
    - Avoid driving into vegetation, as this could damage the environment or kill small animals
    - During night drives, never shine a spotlight directly in animals’ eyes
    - Never make noise to get animals to move, stand up or otherwise react for pictures
    - Respect the rangers, and always comply with their requests or instructions

Lion attacks on buffaloes are a common occurrence in the wild. Lions typically target weaker or isolated members of the buffalo herd, often employing ambush tactics and coordinated teamwork to bring down their prey. It's a dramatic and intense event, showcasing the raw power and survival instincts of both predators and prey in the African savanna ecosystem.

    • @Headonwriter
      @Headonwriter 9 месяцев назад +4

Lions don't keep their sons with them. Sons are chased out the pride about age 2 sometimes a bit earlier or later. It may happens that the pride is soon after taken over by other males forcing the father to flee. Sometimes after fleeing he finds his son or sons that he recently chased out. They will form a bond only if the sons are not mature enough to take over a pride of their own. They stay with dad because he's able to help to defend them as well as hunt.

No. They’re full grown and healthy and strong, proof they managed to survive and hunt successfully without major injury. They are very experienced.

Why are there not one, but TWO buffalos with broken/ badly injured legs in this herd? That is a little unusual, plus the killed buffalo seems to have had a hernia. Are so relatively many injured buffalos common in that locality?
