John Mayer is having way too much fun with this material! They absolutely found the right guy
Amazing stuff Johnny Slayer , you said it Just right 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
If they found the right guy,I feel that they should be kind and tell Mayer he's out of the band gently. But I'm glad he had fun, "May the four winds blow you safely home"!
Thinking John Mayer was the right choice is as stupid as that outfit he's wearing
It's half Dead, half Col. Bruce's old band
@@jayekaye6641 - Jerry wore that same outfit
I was at this show!! I was blown away!!! I have a WHOLE new appreciation for John Mayer... Incredible night!!!
Hes a fucking badass. Looks high on blow too lol
Hahahahhahaha
@@jacobdesersa6765 He He He
Thanks a bunch - it has become pretty obvious through the fall and this summer that Bobby has found his first "soul mate" since Jerry!! Bobby is playing sooooo well, and Bill & Micky are happier than I have seen them since Brent died!!
Agreed!
@Alberto Murach no. Nobody gives a damn.
cried tears of happiness during the last solo during franklin's tower...JOHN UR KILLIN IT.. jerry would be so proud
Ive been a dead head for 20 years but never got into dead and co that much, recently ive been watching these videos of John Mayer and he actually IS amazing....its crazy to think as a 7 time Grammy winning mutli-platinum artist that's known for dating hot celeb chicks, he finds the dead and loves the music so much decides to play lead in the band....incredible
John Mayer is a revelation, channeling Jerry every night. Nailing his percussive playing & guitar sound. So inspired and enthralled by what he's playing he often looks like an ecstatic preacher! My man!
I f**king LOVE seeing my favorite all time music reinvigorated by this guy’s incredible talent!!!! Holy moly. Thank you!!! This is awesome!!!
the Dead reborn - never thought it but its happened ,Thank you
John Mayer is the right man to pick up the torch. I've been following the Dead for 45 yrs. Let's face it the original Dead Heads are dying out. Guys like John need to keep it alive😎
As good as music gets.... Wow....
Made me cry like a baby....
Jm and otiel do an amazing job haven't heard the after Jerry years sound so good up until now. He is a very skilled guitar player he's gained my respect
Whoever gave this a thumbs down is insane. This set of classic songs from Fenway is excellent and played with passion and soul. Mayer has more than earned his place among the Dead family, hinting at more in 2017 - let's hope so! Warren and Trey did a nice job but this is off the charts.
Warren & Trey & Kimock were fun copy bands. This is the real deal
@@keithshaw6725 The real deal? Face it. He's gone, he's gone....and nothing's going to bring him back.
I love how Bobby jumps the gun, then just lets mayer sing it
So good and wonderful to see Ms. Donna Jean again !
Oh I forgot, that was excellent !
Every time I see John he reminds me of Mike Bloomfield. Best career move he ever made was joining this band and letting his talent loose. He's great in this musical setting. I never cared for his solo material but whenever I saw him collaborate with other artists he just rocks. His solo work in Franklin's rips! Truly one of the best guitarists out there today. Looking forward to catching the tour this year. Thanks for the music!!!
Old time deadhead First-time viewer with Mayer. Are you kidding me, WOW! He's great! I never knew, thanks for the post.
Thank you Dead & Co. And thank you John for taking us on a trip to the edge of the universe with you. Beautiful.
John's final solo in Franklin's had to make Jerry smile..........goose bumps.
Crowd was ecstatic ... and JM's solos are what most of the "new" Dead fans came for/paid to see. YET ... I am increasingly amazed by the rest of the band's stone-cold expressionless faces.
Maybe they're just tired of the monotony after so many shows ... it is weird to see though!
I feel like there's a constant lack of emotion from the original members. It's sad. Regardless, that solo was epic and a beautiful balance of Jerry and John.
It could be that you are just projecting. They are after all concentrating on executing one of their most challenging songs. And not everyone smiles. Billy never smiled with GD, either. And Mikey was wiping tears from his cheeks during standing on the moon at wriggly...could see it on the big screen, everyone erupted. Bobby is literally having the time of his life and says as much in recent interviews.
It was just about as selfless an act of devotion I've ever witnessed on stage. Chills!
Thomas Bell that standing on the moon was really something else. Bobby was singing that one to Jerry
Thanks for the experience
Does it get any better than Help- Slipknot- Franklin? Hoping that John-OteilJeff and many others will continue that vibe forever. There is a joy like no other that these songs and this community brings. Much needed in '20 and '21!
This is so fun to look back on. It’s amazing how cohesive they have become. Can’t wait for Fall tour. 🤞
Holy shit!!! That just blew my mind. Mayer just SLAYED that Franklins!!! I caught these boys in MI a couple weeks back, I have to see them more!!
Was at this show with my wife and kiddo what an amazing time!
We went just to hang around Boston, didn't have tickets 🎶🎶. But we were in the right place at the right time 💕💕❤️🎈💕🎶🎶 we saw the whole band climb up on the stage......pure magic 🐸💫🍄🦋🎸🎸🎸
I love this music.
I love Dead and co. but livin' In Tokyo so couldnt .Thank you so much ,Matt.
Nice work! Thank You
To see Jerry play this was truly a treat..
I hereby declare this music the official music of the USA
It's dem 'ol US Blues!!!!
Amen to that
I might be able to go the rest of my life with only the Dead and Allman Bros. Well and Bob Marley. And Wilco. Ok never mind. Haha
John’s final solo on Franklin’s Tower had me in happy happy tears. What a legend...
John Mayer: hands down, the best guitar player of his (and my) generation. His solo show this summer was fantastic, and he absolutely kills it on this one. Can't wait to see Dead & Co.'s tour finale in Fort Lauderdale on 12/8.
Never been a huge Mayer fan, but a huge Jerry fan. Gotta say, dude is the only guy I've seen play with The Dead after Jerry that gets pretty close. Feels natural. I dig it. Anyone notice John doesnt use his right middle finger for solos? Maybe on purpose.. Since Jerry had no right middle finger, he must've learned to solo like that, impressive.
Amazing! And John’s outfit is priceless!
They sound fantastic, the old sound, the magic ,is there again
Mayer brings and incredible passion, intensity and twist to this music and it's epic.
Thanks for this-fantastic video and sound! I was there, too. What a night!
my birthday...am grateful i saw them 2 days later...mt view
This moment in time blew my mind
As a veteran of many Dead shows going back 50 years I would say it's tough to hear Bob singing Jerry songs, I wish this band had just one drummer, the interplay between Jerry and Phil is irreplaceable but...yes, John Mayer killed it on Franklins.
I wish John sang every bobby song. Would love to hear john give peggy o a shot
dude this is a high time for weir and his career its amazing stuff
Never been a fan of mikey. I love the early 70s when billy was the only drummer
Well done JM. Carry the torch! You deserve it.
Thank you so much for sharing this incredible video!
I went to this concert. Great show and great video
Phenomenal Franklin's
As a big fan of musical instruments themselves, those three guitars are BEAUTIFUL. The six string bass is an awesome looking green (Ibanez?). Mayer's six is way cool and Bob's is badass and dangerous. As a bass player on the more frugal range, I am jealous.
Mayer's PRS setup is simply awesome sounding. It's a very muscular tone that still captures the best of the "Garcia sound" .
How could anyone not like that? I really enjoyed that. I am ok w his singing too.
Franklin's was absolutely amazing
Was in the scene....truly a religious experience!
john mayer fuckin nailed it. holy shit. that Help > Slip ON POINT. And the Franklins high octane on Steroids fucks your face. Im a believer after watching this...
John Mayer absolutely nailed Help/Slip/Frank, to be able to handle one of Jerry's/The Dead's greatest trilogy's is by far no easy feat...I've listened to and followed the Grateful Dead since 1970..Loved Jerry, he was the best!!
The nod from Kreutzman at 0:45 when Mayer slows it down just a perfect skosh
Smiles for miles
Mayer could wear a pink tutu and a hockey mask for all I care....he'd still be the baddest motherfucker in the room. Such an effortless musician.
Lmfao. True, true
He wears his heart on his sleeve in this rendition, legendary in its time
Mike Patton - John Mayer is one of the best guitarists ever! What an honor to have played this show!
matthew smith Yep....even if he didn't write and sing those catchy ass songs......he'd still be famous for his guitar playing alone.
glad to see john mayer wearing something besides his armani scarf and his $1000 pantalunes. plus he sounds like hes holding his own musically. might actually try to see a show next year
The ultimate world party. And the Dead always welcome to be houseband. Just imagine if the whole world was like those old San Francisco Street shows jamming out Viola ..
John Mayer can play the fucking GUITAR! Think about the LEGENDS he's been fortunate enough to play beside and makes them all smile, every time. B.B King, Buddy Guy, Dead&Company, etc.....He's got crazy talent!
matthew smith I wasn't a fan of him with GD at first. But he has really taken it on full stride and devoted himself fully. Now I just watch and grin. 😁😁
Dude John killed that Franklin solo never heard anything like it
Thanks Matt
I saw the the second night and it was amazing
God bless the rider playing the music that plays the band
The Grateful Deads music still relevant (200K views in 2020! 55/56 years later) A Grateful Nation thanks you!
going down the road! that was rockin! l liked it! l like going down the road at rimes myself 2! "thank-u! Rock on!
yeah, cracked up when I saw the outfit. Mayer gets a pass on his wardrobe. kid played superbly. teared up when broke into franklin's.
scotch blotter acid outfit..
Nice to see Donna here.
I would love to see her with them more, those little vocal touches in Help on the way always made the song that much better for me
spettacolo!
Love love love 🕉☮❤
Bobby's sheepish smile after jumping the gun is one of my favorite things ever! And yeah, Oteil just fucking rips this whole show
Great Camera work by the way !!!!
John is killing it, He can jam
Just came here to see people appreciating JM
WOW!
Shit. My favorite ballpark and one of my favorite bands! Wish I'd been there. Saw them here in Albuquerque a couple of years ago and had a blast.
Can't wait to do it all again soon...
When you're in the crowd/filmcrew filming John Mayer, you have to get the guitar up close in the shot during the solos. Good job my friend from the guitar players.
Awesome John Mayer with The Grateful Dead...
me too. big fun
saw Pittsburgh and Boston and really just speechless
pittsburgh was a fantastic show
18:00-20:00 ... the further regions ...
I WISH JERRY COULD HAVE WORN THAT OUTFIT ONE TIME!
@15:04 The Acid Kicks in
18:30 The moment Donna forgets that she is on the stage, turns her back to the crowd and goes full spectator.
19:38 Bob joins with a small smile.
Holy Goosepimples 😊 Awesome
About as much fun as you can have with your pants on
Help on the way is such a strong tune that it buffers the absence of the pivotal and essential element of the song, namely the lead guitar lines and primary vocal. The rhythm section is additionally such a juggernaut that they could make pee wee Herman have gravitas.
And Oteil?? What a perfect choice, he IS a sunshine daydream
Bills drumkit is awesome .
Maybe the best version froms dead and Co
Wow, wow ..
loooooooooooooooove john mayer wishing i could make this atl show !
Holy crap Batwoman, that was amazing!!
John Boy!
pretty good
Johnny shreds this up and down. Jerry would be so proud!
incredible, Franklin's Tower would have put a smile on Jerry's face
great 2 c donna g up there
3:40 when Jonny clicks on his octave 😱😱
I was there!
I had a pair of summer pajamas my mother made that closely resemble JMs. I am envious. The guitar playing ain't to bad either.
John needs pasta, garlic bread, and Chianti stains on the tablecloth. Musically lovin' it.
You just had to know that the picnic blanket John is wearing was going to distract Bobby into a false start. LMAO.
Nevertheless, a great show... these boys are gellin'!
2:42 Bob looks up expecting to see Jerry. He’s not there but a flash of old magic is.
Hey John, the diner called. They want their tablecloth back.
Rotfl. The kids cool tho. You gotta be to wear that outfit!
Your tablecloth is a wonderland...LOL
lol
