Hi, almost 75 yo guy here 8 weeks post-op with Posterior left total hip. Do the exercises as proscribed but puleese don't over do it! It's not a race! Keep the walker to stop you from rocking and rolling.Your new Hip can last 20 years with care. Go for walks with friends. Good luck!…..Graham
Can't thank you guys enough for making these videos. It took me practically 4 weeks to get physical therapy started and this program helped me to get going on my own. My surgeon and physical therapist, when I eventually got one, both commented on how well I was doing. The credit goes to you. Thanks again .
Great video. Thank you very much. In the 21st century a Total Hip Replacement should only be performed using the Direct Anterior Approach. The anterior approach is more technically demanding for the surgeon, which is why many surgeons have not yet switched to this approach. This approach is considered a minimally invasive surgery to replace the damaged hip while avoiding nearby muscles and tendons. This approach causes less pain and results in a quicker recovery. There are generally no hip precautions necessary after the direct anterior approach, so motion is not restricted. Patients can return to work when they feel comfortable. This typically takes about 2 weeks. As a 75 year old male and an engineer in the power industry, the surgery was performed as an outpatient and I was home that evening on January 9, 2024. Used a walker for the first two days and then a cane for the following two weeks mostly for protection from falling and to relearn how to walk without a limp. Was active and back to work the following week and playing pickleball at 8 weeks. Was cleared from physical therapy after 4 sessions. Was already doing the exercises and riding my stationary bicycle before the sessions with the physical therapist. My biggest recommendation is to do at least 2 or 3 times a day the associated physical therapy exercises for several weeks prior to the surgery and for at least 8 weeks post surgery or in my case until I got back to my normal fitness activities. The ankle pump exercise should be performed even more frequently. I still do them frequently throughout the day. Also ice pack pads will be your post surgery friend; they should be used frequently on the area of the incision for the first 2 weeks after surgery.
Update*
I had my surgery on Dec 23rd 2021...
I started muay thai in April...after a full month I feel amazing...for those who don't know muay thai has ALOT of knees and kicks...just go slow and never get discouraged.
I just am 6 days out from my hip replacement. Boy, the information about using the cane is swinging my hip was great. I gave up the cane to early, but you put me back on track!
I'm having a total right hip replacement surgery on April 11th and I won't be able to cover therapy costs through Medicare so I appreciate these videos. 👍
Spent 20 minutes looking online for a Post’s pelvic socket fracture surgery physical therapy and this is absolutely the best one so far. Thank you

Thank you fellas. I am 4 Days post Left Hip Posterior replacement. I am doing the best I can but find these exercises easy enough to understand and do. I am 57 years old.
Thank you. I'm doing the excersise. I ditched the crutches to soon. I'm 18 day post op. I'm walking w a limp, no pain I feel fantastic. I will get those back out today.
I have been following Bob and Brad for a few years. Initially it was for problems with my back, but later for other things. Now I'm back and looking for exercises for after hip replacement surgery. You guys have not let me down.
This isn't my first hip replacement, I had my right hip done 9 years ago when I was in my early 40's. I had developed pain in my hip. An orthopedic surgeon told me I had some thinning of the cushion in the joint, but should be fine for another 5 to 10 years. I was back a year later because my leg kept buckling on me. The cushion was completely gone. It was just bone on bone. My left has now done the same thing. I am just over 2 weeks post surgery. A few days ago I had a visit with the surgeon and a physical therapist. Everything is great. I already had ditch the walker most of the time. I shared with them my need to strengthen my legs as much as possible before August. I am a teacher associate and will be working in a building that is 4 stories so I will be going up and down stairs ALOT. The therapist gave me some more exercises to add to what I was already doing.
I came here to see if you guys had something more that I might add. I'm glad I did. You have all the ones my therapist had given me and more. I will be adding them into my rotation.
Thanks again for all the time and effort you guys put in to these videos. You are so very helpful.
Thank you! While I'm getting stronger, I'm still using my walker 4 weeks out, posterior approach. I've asked for HH PT but nothing has happened yet. I didn't know what specific movements would be helpful but I've been doing what I thought would help to stretch & strengthen my weak areas. This video is gold.
Thanks Bob and Brad, TRHR Posterior approach tomorrow. Have been doing your pre op exercises and just made notes for next 4 weeks from your hip replacement programme. Gave a patient perspective talk to some uni physio students about hip pain ealier this year and I advised them if they take away one thing from the morning it is to go and check out you guys !
So happy I found your videos! Had a left hip replacement 12/17/23. Started your video 12/24/23. Doing 3 times daily. Still waiting for my PT to show up. Thank you
This is so cool.Have started this just now on my fifth post op day . I only got four exercises given by the hospital. You two are brilliant and I enjoyed doing these exercises today. Will continue these until my sixth week . Thank you
Thank you, hope others in other languages can make information about health as good as yours.
Right Hip replacement. 2 days a week at Rehab Hospital. Worked for me. But on my days off , this helped as well. Love from Oz.🇦🇺
I am headed into surgery in 2 weeks. And I appreciate this information so much thank guys. I tried to watch a video of a hip replacement, could not. So I decided to focus on the end results instead and get ready to dance again.❤
How is your recovery coming along?
@@galaxiax3284 it has been an adventure. The one thing I was not prepared for was the lack of physical strength through the entire body.. However just passed the 2 month mark and I am feeling more and more like myself everyday. Got the next hip scheduled for August 1st, so be New Year's I will be so ready to dance my heart out all night long. I can't wait. Thanks for asking.🙏❤🌎
@@patriciayingst5783 how soon did you begin to go upstairs, or to drive by yourself? Sorry I’m on my fourth day and I just rented a medical bed and it’s a world of difference in fact it just arrived today and prior to that I was on the couch and I kept tweaking my hip bone and it was very painful, anyhow I’m hoping to get my left hip 3 months after this one, are you moving without a walking chair now?
The very best advice I could give is let your body tell you when it's good to go. I got all hung up on progress of others and comparing it to mine. I find that raising my legs to sleep helps. I'm not a back sleeper never have been, however I am still learning.
And most importantly watch stuff like Dr. Joe, and Abraham Hicks if you don't already.
Let it all unfold, no matter what you need to heal and worrying to much about anything made my pain worse. 🙏♥️🌎
@@patriciayingst5783 got it thanks, I just now started doing exercises and got a huge cramp on my hip that ran down my quad 😂 I will take it easy after all I got 3 month disability, well good luck on your second surgery.
Excellent exercise session
Wow, this was extremely helpful. I'm 4 weeks post-op - posterior approach and this help me with confirmation where I am, what I can or can't do, 90 degree definition and they I can lose the cane yet because I'm walking like you showed. I'm back to work and doing really well but I believe the exercises and explanations of right and wrong way of doing them is going to help tremendously!! Thanks so much!

@@cvvideos1943 by accident? I think its gonna be much harder to recover but not imposible. A hip replacement is one of the most succesfull joint replacements, but you need to understand the musculair motions and the damage of the soft tissue. For my hip i had over 6 different fysiotherapists and 3 for my shoulder. Eage of them had different point of a view and different healing methodes. I had massage, dry needeling, micro shochs, giropractic, meditation everything!... I try everything... You must understand how your body is communicat with you. There are so many ways. You should never stop researching the best way and keep moving, is the best walking, cyling Just the normal movements are mostley the best..

You guys may will be the best PT in the world. Too bad I have to see you again! Last time I watched for my L knee replacement, this time I thought I'd be seeing you for my R rotator cuff I broke 10 months ago but because it took so long to get an appointment (covid etc) I needed a R hip replacement. So I'll definitely be back, but now its likely to be a C-Spine surgery, then R knee then cuff. Yes, I did ask "why can't I just have a titanium skeleton?
